morning ladies~
I am up having my tea..this will be the last week of full time work for me I think...as the new girl starts on Monday. though I know I will be still doing thursdays and saterdays for awhile..until Amy gets the swing of things.. hopefully our boss doesn't scare her away with all his demands
this past weekend was beautiful outside but cloudy and rainy for the rest of the week...
nothing new and exciting in my world.. did hear from my friend Sharon ,Jen told Jay about his kidneys so they have him on dialyisis , and the oncologist said something about small blood clots on his brain.. poor Jen is exhausted .. her friend is staying at the house with the boys, older one had an arguement with Linda and is staying at a friends house.. so still keep that whole family in your prayers..6 -
Connie in KY - I think we all bring our troubles here, no worries. Hope the situation can be resolved for a good answer for all concerned.
Allie - hope things settle at work into something less stressful, or you find a new job where you're valued. Thinking of your friends and hoping for a good resolution there as well.
Kim - Rori's the reason I'm doing what I'm doing, so we got your back, sister!
Am attending the first meeting with a team of professors and deans from the local university this afternoon to discuss partnering on a massive federal grant--one of our board members who is the associate dean of business there arranged the meeting, and it's a real opportunity for solid, three- to five-year funding for our STEM programs for girls. Will make for a busy few months for me, as it's due in November, but welcome the work, and we're good candidates, especially with a university backing us up. Just need to be inspirational, enthusiastic, persuasive and dig up my academic vocabulary. I know it's in here somewhere!
Love y'all,

Machka- I love propagating my hydrangeas.I just find the low lying branches, put a little soil over it and a rock on the soil to hold it in place.I leave that for a whole year then clip the new plant from the parent.5

Good morning all! Happy Tuesday! Had a rainy day yesterday; no storms, just an almost continual downpour. I managed to get the kids out for a walk after lunch during a break in the rain. The sky cleared and off we went. Got sprinkled on a bit on the way home, but we were hot and it was a warm rain. Our Explore theme for the first two weeks of summer were Science/Art. The theme for this week is Ourselves. Yesterday we talked about the our bodies and what we "know". The kids read a lot of books (or are read to a lot) so they already know quite a bit. We started the Naked Egg experiment to illustrate cells and osmosis. That is a two-three day experiment so it will carry through tomorrow. Today we have an activity and craft for the five senses. The activity involves popcorn (did you know you can experience popcorn with all five senses??) so the kids will love that one! The craft is making a five senses poster of themselves.
Rori-Yikes! Dizzy spells are scary; usually normal as we get older, but still scary.
Kim- Ooooh, I hope that our boss(es) see what a valuable asset you are to them and give you the raise and more! I love how the other ladies watch our backs! Rori and Lisa, you are a great example of why I love this group!
Heather- Whoot! Extra exercise (to get the "vanished" fedora), a hubby that will go to bat for you, AND a fedora!?! You are a lucky woman!
Karen VA- Thank you for posting the photo of HF as Indiana Jones. Although the fedora has been around for many, many years; that character is what I think of whenever I see a darker fedora. Mmmmm...Harrison Ford! Although, when I see the lighter colored (beach) fedoras I think of Anthony Hopkins' final scene as Hannibal Lector in Silence of the Lambs. "I have to go now, Clarice. I'm having a friend for dinner."
Machka- So the longer bike ride went well for DH? The photos are wonderful! Also love all of the flowers. I have two hydrangea bushes. They are two different kinds and I don't remember the kind. I do know I like the bigger one on the south side of my house, best. When I first planted them, they were pink (I got them both as gifts) and I remember wishing they were blue instead. The next year they came up blue. lol It took me a while to figure out that the color depends on the ph balance in your soil. Like I said, I can grow children; just not plants.
Well, I have started charting my exercise. I mean a tangible chart on the inside of my cupboard door where I check off what I have done each day. Over the past couple of years, I have posted my monthly goals on here and have started an exercise routine, only to not follow through. Because I LOVE having a list and checking things off, I will see if this helps me stay on track a bit more. Fingers crossed because this weight has GOT to come off.
Oh, I have to tell you; Lauren vibered me last night and I was talking to Joaquin while she was busy cleaning up after dinner. I was giving him kisses (I make the kissy face and get close to the camera on the phone and make the kissy sound) and he was kissing the phone back. Well, then he hopped off the kitchen chair, phone in hand and started racing through the house! lol it was a wild ride! The whole time holding the phone in front of his face as he ran, so I could see his little mischievous face, giggling madly and screeching as he ran from mama. He would round a corner and stop behind the couch and "kiss" me a few more times until Lauren got close...then off we went again! Laughing hysterically, both of us. Our conversation ended with a few more phone kisses; then screeches of despair (from him) as mama took the phone and carried him off for his bath. I went to bed very happy! Love that boy!

Kelly LOLOLOL!!! Joaquin's mad dash must have been a real endorphin rush. What a hoot!
Concerning the lighter-colored fedora & the Anthony Hopkins reference...he is one of the most talented, versatile actors ever, I adore him, and I was sickly fascinated with Silence of the Lambs..."fava beans and a nice chianti"...

Carol Oh my gosh. Now that's an interesting little tidbit. Somehow Martha and Anthony seem an odd couple anyway, but you never know...

Oh I love the hydrangea photos!
And @Workoutahloic50 I love propagating these (also rhododendrons & azaleas) the same way you do! Free plants.
Here is a less impressive one I took last week in my yard:

Meg: It is absolutely delightful to see your post!!!
RV Rita: My daughter is turning 40 this year and my son will turn 44. I will turn 70, and I plan to live a lot longer.
Karen & Lanette: Harrison Ford certainly did wear a Fedora well. Scientists have created vaccines to protect people from all sorts of viral diseases—measles, mumps, chicken pox . . .Perhaps botanists can create vaccines for Dutch Elm disease. I looked on line and it appears they are trying. I hope they succeed.
Heather: The elm trees are spectacular! Good news that the hat shop will be sending a hat to your DH. I’m hoping to eventually see his photo wearing it.
Amber in TX: I hope your hubby gets home safe and sound. :flowerforyou:
Rori: I am so sorry that your DH is experiencing light headedness. I hope the doctor is able to help.
Barbie: I love ferry rides, too. I hope all goes well with Jake’s appointment.
(((Connie in KY))) I hope you can talk your sister out of making a bad decision.
Amber TX: I the Maxine cartoons. THANK YOU!!!
The RV is fixed!!! It has its new license tags on and will be ready to go for the fourth of July week. Our park reservations are in place. I am still hoping for the long road trip this summer but I’m not confident that DH will be willing. One step at a time.

Checking in, back from vacation and back at work. I will work on reading up to date, but with over 600 posts will take me awhile. Our vacation was great. Saw lots of Wyoming and Montana. Went to several sessions of our Christian Motorcycle group and learned that you have to find your joy from the inside out and not by outside things. I am working on that. I gained while gone and I am not surprised, but getting back on track and taking it one day at a time. Blessings, Vicki GI NE3

Decided I needed a shopping trip. It was a bit warm for it, but not unbearable.
I bought the same skirt my friend bought back in May when I was with her. She says she has had great wear out of it. It's sort of zebra stripes, midi/long length, with a slit up the back. Good quality for such a cheap price. Also bought a black sun hat, that I hope my DH will approve of. He hates my folding Chinese one! Then bought two different camisoles. My old ones have got into a terrible state. I wear them all the time, in bed, for exercise, and instead of a bra. Pretty much 24 hrs.
Lastly I bought a turquoise glass for my bathroom, so I can swallow my pills more easily.
Then I did some food shopping.
We are picking up the kids tomorrow instead of next week, which is better for us.
Dancing tonight!

We are children of the 60's & 70's. Academic vocabulary included "far out," far-effing out," & "noway Jose." I'm betting those aren't buzz words that would help get a grant. :noway: I have every confidence that you'll do a great job helping Kim.4 -
hi ladies!
today it's a beautiful day, even though it's a bit grey. the sun comes out in spots, and the wind is blowing the leaves around a lot (I love that sound). We found out that Vince's foot is not broken (8 days after x-rays were taken - how is that helpful?) but he's having quite a time with it and a lot of pain. Thankfully he has a desk job. We tried to buy crutches on the weekend but couldn't find any. I'll have to order some online, I guess. This is his 4th foot/lower leg issue in about 1.5 years which seems the way things go with CMT (charcot marie tooth disease). He's going to go to physio for a couple appointments and get some advice and exercises.
Tomorrow we go for a re-check on Ashley's (oldest cat) dental recovery, but he's doing quite well. I think his teeth have been bothering him for quite awhile. He seems very happy and more spunky now, so I'm happy about that.
Does anyone else ever get "advice" comments on their diary or exercise posts that go up on their newsfeed? I don't mind supportive or encouragement posts, but when people tell me what they think I should be doing better (or how), without me asking, it feels a bit invasive. Just wondering how others deal with this?
I'll leave you with a photo of the twins (Trolley and Cardigan) snuggling up together yesterday.

This beautiful sunset has a dangerous cause. It is smoke from the Capitan Forrest Fire about 100 miles away.

Barbie in NW WA, hope your Dr. in Seattle checks Jake out thoroughly. I'm worried about Rori's husband too.] Anything that could lead to a fall is important after 60-65. Have a lovely drive - weather should be great today!
Connie, I'm with Margaret on this one UNLESS your mom would be left with enough for her half of the house to act as a security account for a rental she could afford - which is doubtful. Is she in need of assistance with things? She may qualify for a subsidized apartment, some of which can be quite nice.
Rori, your Linus has such a sweet face!
Allie, I know there's nothing much you can do, and that's a helpless feeling when it involves a friendship or familial tie. You'll have them in your prayers, I'm sure, and we will spare some thought for you as well. You have a great deal on your plate right now.
WorkOutaholic! Love your hydrangeas! I don't think I'll ever forget the switching I got as a small girl when I pulled ALL the blooms on my grandpa's and floated them in a large birdbath he had. No room for the birds and a naked bush for the bees. And owies for me. Of course it was the norm, but it was the only time that grandpa was ever upset with me. That hurt worse.
KJ (Kelly), it must have been something in the air! My grandson was chasing me and his mom around the pool last night to give us "kissies"! We were laughing and screeching like mad things! So much fun!
Amber, I just love "Crabby Road"! I like cartoons about irritable old people. I suspect it's because they're voicing thoughts that zip through most of our thoughts now and then.
RV Rita, I really thought at first you were going to say "The Last Supper"! Love your sunset photo.
I found some 2 serving pouches of various Indian foods under the brand Tasty Bite at Target. They make s great basis with an added protein for dinner. If I watch the sodium it's s great way to add flavor to my diet. I find I now crave spicy or strongly flavored dishes more than sweets! I was told this sometimes happens after bypass surgery, and they don't quite understand why yet. I'm just glad one of the lucky ones.
