We’ve had beagles forever in the same pens.15 gallons of water and 50 pounds of food in their feeder.Pens cleaned every 10 days.Plenty of shade and houses.Came home today to find our Radar seizing 😭.He Had apparently gotten too hot.The other dogs are fine.Cooling him down with water all over and going to put him in the house shortly.I hope he comes through.

I used to be a 'cup half full' person, always happy and laughing, especially as a child, but "life" happened and knocked me back a bit. I sometimes see flashes of the person I used to be, and would like her back! I tell myself that there are people out there worse off than me, (I'm a work in progress )

@Machka9 and all the others here who are caregivers - it is not for the faint of heart. My mom is almost 81. She had a stroke 4 months ago. She went from a vibrant, active woman to an old lady moving in slow motion. She is living life to her new fullness. Some days she is so exhausted she just sleeps. Other days she’s bouncing everywhere! My daughter’s paternal grandma (my best friend did a second parent adoption so my sister could never get custody if anything ever happened to me) had a hemorrhagic stroke 12 years ago. You never know what kind of day it’s going to be when she wakes up. My mom’s sister is 83. She’s super self-sufficient, but she no longer drives, so I run errands for her too.
Caregiving is a crap shoot. You never know what the day will be like until you get out of bed. I’m glad I’ve been able to do it, but it’s not what I saw myself doing 15 years ago. Honestly, it scares me to think that some day this will all end. I really don’t know what I’ll do with myself. Wait for grandkids I guess.

bananas - I usually jot down what I eat as the day goes on because there would be things that I would have forgotten.
Did meet with Jess and Shadow is here. For lunch I had a grilled chicken breast with a sweet potato. There was a free salad bar so I got a plate with peas, tomatoes, cucumbers, garbanzo beans, cottage cheese and beets in it.
On the way home I had some dried apricots that I'd brought with me.
As usual, I am thirsty when I'm in a car for a long time. That's probably because of the dry air. In the car alone I had 72oz.
Debbie - I hope Radar comes thru, too.

Finally finding time to read again. Headed to bed. Have to take Tootsie the barn cat to the vet tomorrow morning. Love this group and the variety of discussions.
Take care all, Sue in WA6 -
Rori, I was watching USA v France women’s soccer. I am so impressed with the energy and fitness of all of the women on both teams. They’re amazing.2
-
DH has been watching the women's football. He is impressed. I am following the progress of the British side, but not watching it. I see the clips on the news. I don't watch sport. If I don't care about the result I'm not interested and if I do care, then I find it far too anxiety provoking to watch. I hate getting overexcited and even more hate losing! I occasionally watch performances I do care about after I know the result!
Also I don't enjoy feeling partisan about any one team or side. It all feels random to me. I can and do appreciate individual grace and achievements. I like to look at athletic bodies.
Love Heather UK xxxxxxx1 -
Debbie in VA: (((Hugs))) Hoping Radar is improving
Connie in KY: (((Hugs))) I know exactly how you feel. I went through a number of years where our parents and their siblings gradually declined from being strong independent people. They fought it all the way, but for a time we were privileged to be able to repay, in some small measure, all their love and sacrifice over the years, by making their lives as full and comfortable as they had made ours. At the time, it seemed like, as you say, a crap shoot, but one I willing took part in. Lol! Looking back, it was the least I could do for them. These days, as the decades pass, I'm walking in their shoes. And kicking and screaming every step of the way to stay as healthy and fit as I possibly can.
Life is a beach, and then the tide sweeps in! DED texted yesterday morning from Germany. Her partner's 93 year old dear grandmother passed away in the night. She has been battling stomach cancer for several years. RIP Oma 💕💖💕
Life is finite, but for now it goes on. Enjoy it while you can.
Yesterday in glorious sunshine, we visited a wonderful outdoor sculpture exhibition in the walled garden of our Town Park.
This was my favourite piece.
Afterwards we drove across the countryside to sus out the route to the boatyard where we are having our new engine fitted next week.
We spent the afternoon pottering in the garden and finished the day with a visit from DBiL and DSil for coffee and a catch-up.
I'm awake and fighting fit(ish)! It's a new day, with new opportunities to explore.

morning ladies~
I am having a heck of a time... got into some tortilla chips last night, just because.. im sabotaging myself for what?
just stupid on my part. Oh Well today is a new day...
I am having my tea.. and watching the birds.. I havent gotten written up yet...i have a retaining wall and i just spread dried mealworms out there as soon as I get up because nobody is up and attum yet.. so the birds can enjoy and I can enjoy..
working 7:30 to 1 and then home
I hear you on the caregiving.. asyou all know I go daily sometimes 2 times a day to feed him.. and even the CNA's that take care of him say . if Tom or I aren't there he wont eat or very little.. that says alot.. even though he can't vocalize he knows that we love him and want to take care of him.. and like you say there are good days and bad..
If we left him in the hands of Toms brother and sister in law he would have been gone a long long time ago...
he had a tough life and I want to make his last years comfortable.

Happy Saturday! The toilet woke me up this morning! lol Some one had used it and the water was still running. (not sure how long it had been running) So I got up and took the tank lid off and jiggled the chain that had gotten caught under the drain cap. 5:00am. I had my alarms set for 6:30 (FINALLY, I get to sleep in!) Not going to be able to get to sleep now. But it is okay. I opened the windows in the kitchen as I made my coffee and could hear the birds beginning to sing. Still dark, but just a hint of light peeking in the east. I took my coffee out and sat on the bumper of our car, in the dark and just listened to the wild and nonstop conversation of birds. Bliss. Now, an hour later, the sun is up, the birds have quieted to few chitters and chatters here and there, and I have moved back into the kitchen for cup number 2 and to chat with you lovely ladies!
Machka, Connie, Allie, Rori and all the other caregivers- My hat is off to you women! Full time caregiving is so hard! The stress, frustration, isolation, etc that goes with it (on both the patient and the caregiver's part). It was hard watching my MIL decline. For me, as a part time caregiver to my MIL, it felt a bit more like "it's the least I can do" because I couldn't be there every day, and I couldn't (didn't) do it for my own parents. SEnding big hugs to all of you ((( )))
Pip Bullwinkle mothering Yogi! She was like the "mama" for young Floyd and Yogi and I love the pics of her doing her duty for them.
Allie- I missed something. What might you be getting written up for? Feeding the birds?
Heather- LOL I am like you with sporting events. Colin and Tim both watch and follow a few different sports/teams. I used to follow Notre Dame University sports, but after one game where I found myself shrieking at the tv and (within the course of two minutes) went from jumping up and down to lying in a heap on the floor with tears running down my face. I decided I would never get that involved again. lol Like you, though, I do love to watch athlete's bodies and hear their stories. Especially the runners. I absolutely love to watch marathons (especially ultramarathons). AND for me the most inspiring stories are the women who are out there. It is usually the women who have found the time to do this endurance running even though they work, have kids, usually are overcoming some sort of stressful situation like injury, caregiving, loss, etc. It is just phenomenal to see and hear about that kind of drive and effort. So inspirational. And their bodies are like machines. Amazing.
Debbie- Sorry to hear about Radar! Hope he is on the mend. What kind of dog is he?
Terri- That is a lovely piece of artwork! At first I thought I was looking at flowers painted into her hair, but they are bodies! I wonder what the artist was feeling when he/she painted that? Overwhelmed? Stressed? or nurturing? hmmm...
To all:- I was going through one of my daughter's tubs of things she might want to take back to Texas with her; and I found a calendar that I made for her for the year that she spent studying in France. Each day had a quote on it or inspirational words from me or other loved ones. One of the first ones for September (She was there Sept-May 2009) was this: "Staying positive does not mean that things will turn out okay. Rather it is knowing that you will be okay no matter how things turn out." - Unknown author
Well, I have Trentin for just three hours this morning then the day is mine. Time for me to get my exercises in, as I chose to hang out with the birds first thing this morning! ttfn xoxoxo KJ (Kelly)8 -

KJ and everyone-Radar is a sweet beagle.I was up with him for the night and he Seems to have calmed a bit ,but I know he’s not out of the woods yet.Hubby is upset/angry because we don’t have the money to take him to the vet.Hopefully since he (hubby)has off today,he can keep up with keeping Radar cooled down as the temperature is going to be in the upper 90s heat index over 💯.Hes in the house,so ...I hate not being home with him 😔5

This weekend so far ...
-- Hair cut and dyed. It's up to waist-length now and I just freshened up a similar dye technique I did last time.
Not the greatest shot of me, scrunching my face up into the sun ... but you can see what I did to my hair just before Christmas. That's pretty much what I've done to my hair now, although the lighter colour on top might be somewhat more copper now.
-- Cleaned and organised my night table. That might not seem like much but my night table ends up being the "junk drawer" of the back of the house. I needed to organise it so I had a place for all my eye masks, ear covers and ear plugs ... the elements that make up my night time cocoon of silence!
-- Shopping with my husband to get several things for my husband and me. For our fitness setup and for his projects.
-- Laundry!
