Heather UK, your i360 is very reminiscent of our Space Needle here in Seattle. The top restaurant rotates 360° each hour, so your view changes constantly. The observation deck was just fitted with a section of glass flooring. I'm planning on testing myself one of these days!
Margaret, hugs for you today, and any time you want them! My lifeline is my phone. I have my calendar, which is colir-coded to the Nth degree, contacts with custom ringtones for family members do I can tell who's calling (my somewhat whiney daughter's tone is a harp glissando. She thinks I picked it because it's pretty! Don't tell her!)
RV Rita, I thought your SO had left because you posted "My Luke is gone!" I have no idea what that might refer to then. Stay cool as best you can! I can't take that kind of heat at all. Anything over 85° and I go aquatic, pronto!
Hi back, Ethelsmommy! I hope you come by often. Tell us what you prefer to be called, please, and your area so we can identify you at a glance!
Shannon in Ontario, your cat, Trilley, does NOT look pleased! How did the name Trolley come up?
Barbie from NW WA, isn't it nice when someone seeks out your company? Such a great feeling![/b]

Been very busy with my new puppy. Just like halving a baby but babies stay put. He is reLly sweet but is tiring us out. Hope we survive the house breKing. I think we are trained instead of him.
So sorry to hear of Sue’s husband passing. Such a sad time for her family.
Joined WW online and have least a little over 6 pounds in three weeks. May be from running around after the puppy.3 -
oh, Pip!That blanket looks so cozy! Is the flare at the top to keep her cozy, or to keep her from chewing at herself? Yeah, those winds have been kicking up here in the Cascade foothills in the late afternoon here too! 17mph,
I've been drowsy all day. I dozed off for an hour, then awake for two. It doesn't help that both warm, sleepy purring cats have me pinned down by brute force. Perfect way to spend a cloudy chilly day.
I hope this "skip to the top of the page when I'm trying to copy my post to carry it to the next" thing is fixed soon. It's very annoying.

Unfortunately true M that is why I take mini breaks throughout the day.
Sharon thank you!0 -
Michele NC - trying to learn how to steam my bacon then 🥓 pop it in the airfryer to finish so I can drain as much grease y fat out as possible then tadaaa crisp it. A Norwegian Submarine Chef 👨🍳 does it for his crew trying to recreate it in a more high tech smaller fashion. My electronic steamer 22min then air fryer but not sure how long since it will be cooked just needs crisped so tomorrow experiment time. Might be half the normal cook time or 1/3rd will see.
JR saw fire 🔥 for the 1st time today mosquito candle was lit he stared at it for over 3minutes in awe lol 😆 forgot how funny babies look when they see their first flame 🔥.

Thankyou to who posted about adding pics in the post finally understand your directions! Was trial y error for awhile there lol.4 -
Shannon, I am so sorry to hear about your family's medical woes. We have had our sessions with many doctor and dentist appointments and I remember how stressful it was and how it messed with all our other plans. I'll be thinking healing thoughts for you.

hi Sharon - we adopted Trolley and his brother in February and named them Trolley and Cardigan (from Mr. Rogers!) - it was mainly because Cardigan looks like he is wearing a sweater.Trolley got the happy alternative name!

Today was a very successful day. We did two sets of 15 reps today followed by one rep of the absolute heaviest thing we could do. We did lat pull down two ways, leg extensions and curls, calf raises, squats, and seated row. For example, with the seated row I did two sets of 15 reps at 40 lbs. then I did one with 50, one with 60, and one with 70. I tried one with 80 and couldn’t do it. Got in 15 minutes of abs, 15 minutes of the elliptical, and enough walking at home with Dave to get me to 10,000+ steps. I drank 100 oz of water and ate 1300 calories, and did not get hungry. I guess it’s a combo of the water and the nutrient dense foods. Stocked up on berries and green veggies at the store. I am truly amazed that I have not craved carbs or sweets.9

I gave in to stress today and ate a candy bar...the whole candy bar. At least it wasn’t a king-size.
In the ongoing saga of my alcoholic sister and her loser baby daddy that she won’t leave - loser baby daddy got arrested for assault today. The maintenance guy at their apartment claims he purposefully chest bumped him. Loser baby daddy would never chest bump anybody because he would lose his temper and punch them. Anyway, my sister couldn’t go get him because she would get arrested for DUI. So guess who agreed to get baby daddy at jail?? Thankfully he was released because he has no prior offenses so no bail money.
My family is the biggest mess!!

Today I was on Athena duty three times today. Once while they went to the store, then DIL walked their dogs, and then she had to pump. Poor son was sick, hopefully it was something he ate, or he's just tired. He has one of his HS friends and GF coming tomorrow. DIL had fun watching America's Got Talent, made her burritos, and we bathed Athena. She likes water, was sucking on her fingers. Then if course after the bath she promptly pooped big-time in her diaper.👍😁Athena sleeping, and Bobbie sitting like a Meerkat!

Hi Gals,
So I am sitting at my desk, feeling hurt, disappointed, betrayed….. I work at a kids camp as the gardener – it’s just 10 hours a week, but I really like the people, have learned a lot and get to eat there and bring vegies that are not perfect home. It is a great side gig to my main gig of owning my own machine embroidery business.
The embroidery business is small, and makes enough but no extras. I have health care via Covered California, but no vision or dental. I have tried all sorts of options for affordable dental care but it just doesn’t exist here. The closest dental school is 40 min drive each way and a cleaning is $65 plus more for xrays. So when the company that runs the camp that I work at changed and the new company came in offered me the same job with a few cents an hour more, dental, vision and a retirement program. I was delighted.
They have been who I have worked for, for 3 weeks now, and they still have not gotten info for insurance, retirement or how to use the online time card program to us. I emailed my boss, he cc’d me and emailed his boss and the head of HR. Forms for retirement program appeared, but not the booklet, nor forms for insurance.
My boss is on 5 days of vacation so I emailed the same group back, thanked them for the forms but asked how I could get the booklet and the insurance forms.
The response from my bosses boss in email was “ I’ll be there tomorrow and can talk with you about this. What I found out was that it requires employees to work 30 hours a week before they are eligible for the plan. I’m so sorry this message got garbled before I got the chance to talk with you. I will be there tomorrow or you can call me tomorrow to go over the information and if I can help find other alternatives for you.”
My response:
This was offered in my offer letter, and was a huge part of how I made my decision to accept this offer.
I will be at camp tomorrow morning, and will be happy to talk to you then.
Their response:
Thanks Kim, yes, I figured this would be a big deal. Thanks for coming by to talk.
My vent to you guys –
“garbled message”? What the ??? you lied. It’s simple you didn’t do your homework, and lied. My offer letter says 10 hours a week, a pay rate and the opportunity to have vision, dental and 403 matching (retirement). This is not a contract but it is setting expectations on both sides.
There have been a few other red flags about how together this company was – and now this. And it appears that the boss has known for some amount of time and just didn’t tell my boss or me… what thought I’d forget? I was looking forward to the tax savings of the retirement program, and to go get my teeth cleaned. I just feel betrayed. And I know me… I am not good in these situations. If I get to flustered, disappointed, my eyes fill with tears, it’s not really sad crying but more like my frustration pouring out of my eyes…. I need to think this through and decide what will make this ok for me. Do I just accept? Ask for something to “make it better”? Or accept for now and find a replacement job and move on.
I can’t tell if this is that none of the benefits are available or if it is just part of them. I do need to verify that when we talk tomorrow. Right now I want to stomp my feet and call the boss a dirty name. Not what I will do…. But I need to go to bed.
Many of you have more experience than I do in these things, while right now my brain is angry, I'd love any insight especially before 7am pdt

Here in Australia, we don't get any health care with any job ... no "benefits". If we want some sort of insurance coverage, we pay a small fortune to get it ourselves. So ... for example ... we've shelled out something in the neighbourhood of $3000 in the last year for glasses and dental. And the really sad part of that is that we've got insurance that we pay for ourselves, and the insurance did cover some of it!
But @GodMomKim in your situation, if they're not going to give you the benefits they put in your letter, you might ask for a wage increase. Another 50 cents/hour, perhaps, to go toward health-related issues.

Thank you to several of you who have welcomed me! it's a fast moving thread with a lot of people so thanks for your patience while I get to know who is who!
shall I give you a bit of background about me?
I'm 50, I'm originally from the US and live in the Netherlands the last 25 years. Kind of bizarre that I'm here half my life. I'm married to a Dutch person, I have two grown step-kids. I work an office job 4 days a week, occasionally I work on the side as a sports massage practitioner (I did a year course sport massage and a year sport therapy a few years ago because my work situation was not stable). I've been on this weight loss/ maintenance ride for a lonnnnnng time now; seems I'm always a few kilos/pounds away from my goal weight. The last time I said "this is the last time" was 10 years ago. I also started running then. My husband started running to support me and turns out he has a talent for it. We have a very active lifestyle. Only I *still* have issues with stress-comfort eating and moderation. And to be honest, now being in peri-menopause I also have no idea how much I should be eating to lose weight. I've been away from MFP for a while, but decided to come back to gain a bit of control again. I had foot surgery in March, so had 2 months off running and other foot-impact activities (except walking) and promptly gained 3 KG (that I lost from Sept - March). Ugh. It's never ending. I can't seem to find a method to the madness!
Anyway, that's condensed version. I started 10 years ago around 99KG. Currently 76KG. Goal is 70KG. I haven't gained significant weight back this time ("last time" was in 1999 - 2001 from 97 to 69, maintained 3 years and had a major life crisis so gained it all back. Hence starting over again in 2009) so I am happy about that. if I wasn't a runner and didn't have running goals I'd probably be ok to just maintain here! But that's not the case and I'd like to see at least the 72 again.
If you made it through all that, I appreciate it. Hopefully I can get to know you all a bit better soon too!5 -
Re health care: NHS is 'free' (we pay Narional Insurance all our working lives, which is supposed to fund it) but there are long waiting lists for appointments/operations. We are supposed to have free prescriptions, but many items are not 'approved' so have to be paid for over the counter, (and approved items often get taken off the list!) We are fortunate that we have no ongoing medical problems requiring unapproved medicines.
Care for the elderly is means tested. Anyone over a set limit of savings/assets has to pay for their own residential care. So thrifty, careful people who have saved all their lives are penalised, while feckless spendthrifts like my dad get everything paid for. But it does mean that everyone has a basic level of care, especially in emergencies.
Those who have money can pay for operations, or private health care, and avoid the waiting lists, but operains are often done in NHS hospitals, which can increase the waiting lists for those who can't pay. This can be a dilemma for people like myself. I would have had to wait over another 2 years to have my hip replaced, despite it impacting my mobility so much, if we hadn't had some savings to pay to have it done privately.
Many jobs have private healthcare included, especially government jobs. This gives people preferential treatment. Life never changes! Those with money can get the best care. Those without must wait.
NHS varies around the country. We are fairly lucky in N Ireland, as our Health Boards are quite well run.
Yesterday, I spent most of the morning hanging around waiting for DH to have a biopsy done on his prostate gland. It's been an ongoing problem for over a year, and a recent consultation and blood tests showed a deterioration which was a cause for concern. My cousin had the same problem in January and had his removed. It's likely that DH will have to have the same operation sooner or later. It's fairly common at his age, but one can't help worrying.
Amber tx: JR is adorable.
Hugs to those who need them.

Kim - advice before 7 a.m. PDT it is. It is probably worth what you're paying for it, as I'm not a legal expert.
You are correct, unfortunately, that an offer letter is not a contract. However, there is a legal concept called "fraudulent inducement of employment," which I think this definitely qualifies as, as they got you to stay by promising you something they weren't going to supply, ever, and they did it in writing. The flip side of that is a) it would require a lawyer, and b) I doubt they have deep enough financial pockets that a lawyer would be willing to take it on contingency. So... that puts you in a space where you are hurt and angry, but as soon as you bring up the word "fraudulent," you're going to make them nervous enough to get rid of you.
However, there is optimism (somewhat) in the phrase, "you can call me tomorrow to go over the information and if I can help find other alternatives for you." I would explore those alternatives. As Machka said, I would push for an hourly raise, but I would ask for $1 an hour. Covered California does have dental and vision available for a separate charge (couldn't figure out how much for dental, I think it depends on your health provider). VSP offers vision coverage to Covered California members at $15.16 a month, and they're pretty good, I've used them. If you can get a read on the dental amount, and justify what's effectively a $40 a month raise, I think it's a good option.
I can't fix the 403B and the match, but have never seen any company that allowed 403B or 401K options to anyone working less than 30 hours a week, I'm sorry. The fact that they are a 403B tells me they're a non-profit, which implies they should be decent human beings and less focused on the bottom line, but it also tells me they are on a tight budget. You may not be able to get a $1 an hour out of them... but if you walk in armed with the figures, you will feel that you're on less shaky ground, on the order of "This is what you promised, and this is how you can make good on part of that promise."
The good part is they want to keep you, obviously, or you would have already gotten messaging that said "too bad" instead of "let's talk." If they don't offer you enough or nearly enough to cover dental/vision at a minimum, I would stay, but start looking for other work, sadder but wiser.
And I get the equation - when I get really angry, especially when I'm pushed in a corner and can't see a way out, I also cry. Which makes me angry, which makes me cry. It's a loop, and annoying. Even when the anger is righteous, the physiological reaction is the same. Best of luck, my dear.
Love,
