I missed my chance to work in the yard again this morning because I had a friend over to go for a walk. Fortunately it was cool and a bit windy after lunch so I was able to work outside even with the sun overhead and spent an hour in the yard. Later I rode the exercise bike and watched baseball on TV with Jake. We had recorded the game so by the time we turned it on, we were able to fast forward through the commercials and some of the slower parts of the game.

*two hours riding the exercise bike
*an hour working in the yard
*an hour walking with my friend
*18,000 steps so far

Did an hour of balance games on the Wii. The plan for tomorrow is to do one segment of a 10MS Carb Burner DVD then take the extremepump class.
Did a load of laundry yesterday, now just have to put it away. Funsville.
Vince still says that his back is hurting him. How I wish he’d exercise and strengthen his core! I’ve only mentioned it, but what do I know? Last night he said he thought it was getting better but this morning he says it hurts.
NYKaren – I’m with you, I try to keep snacks out of the house. I admit, I keep some for Vince, but it’s usually ones that he likes that I don’t. OK, it doesn’t always work. I try to keep reminding myself that if I have (say) some cookies, he’ll notice that they’re gone and it’ll make me look bad. There are times when I want an ice cream. So I go out for it. This way, it isn’t in the house. If I had a full carton, I know I’d eat it. So it isn’t there for me to eat

Sometimes I’ll have some dried fruit to satisfy the sugar craving.
Think I’ll ice a cake today for Jess. We’re supposed to pick up shadow Friday since she’ll be leaving for Idaho on Sunday. Actually, I made a margarita cake to take to this “mardi gras” party we were going to have but Denise had PJ that day. So the cake is still in my freezer and I want to get it out.
Has anyone heard from Penny at the Pole? Or Lenora?

The sun came out so in the pool I went. I really would like some sort of portable bathroom out by the pool, Vince wants me to come into the house. To me, a portable bathroom would be so much more convenient for me and for guests. Well, I’ll compromise. Update: he'll get a runner for me and guests to use the downstairs bathroom. At least I won't be tracking water into the house.
Think I’ll take a shower. Guess I’ll put my pajamas on. Update: went outside by the pool and played this mahjongg game on my phone. I think I'm getting somewhat better.

Lisa – “Labels are for pickle jars not people” LOVE THIS!!! Interesting for me being 60 has been the most comfortable I have been in- - - in maybe ever. It’s not financially or relationship wise, but in just knowing me. I’ve learned to make boundaries and to occasionally break them, I’ve learned to reach out for help and support but to say no to the help that for me is not helpful, I’ve learned to take the risk to support/advocate for those who need it, and to accept the consequences of that choice.

Things still chugging along… I don’t know what this week will hold from the camp company I garden for. Turns out there is a need for someone to write a grant or two, and come to find out that in this whole non-profit I’m the only one who has ever written a grant (not too impressed with this fact) so I got to sit in – a higher level meeting, and there are a lot of financial issues. They took on the camp I am at because of a “friendship” between the 2 CEOs and the now gone CEO mis-represented what the current CEO was getting into. So while I think they are generally good with money the world is upside down right now. So don’t know as though that $1 an hour is in my future. If I do end up writing and winning a grant or two, I’ll be using that as leverage for more $$$$. My direct boss has been on vacation during this week, I picked him up at the airport and he was not a happy camper to hear what had been going on. He asked why I was still working at camp. (although he was delighted) I was clear with him that the negotiation was still on-going.

Pip, in my circle of friends it's about 70 as well, and by that marker I am old. By my body's capabilities I'm old as well. I'm cane dependent, take more than 2 or 3 meds daily, and can't (yet!) walk more than 1/4 mile without stopping to rest, but last year at this time I could walk only 100 yards without stopping. Around the house I lurch a little bit less as I lunge a few feet without my cane to grab something. And I am leaving this September on my first solo trip to a foreign country - a mystery trip, no less, where I won't know my exact destination in southern Mexico until I leave. I think I may have found the fountain of youth and be regressing! By the way, happy anniversary to you two. I'm well aware that you are each other's guardian angel! Having someone have your back is a very, very good feeling.
Julie, judging yourself doesn't prove very productive. Keeping a glass of water or Gatorade light or flavored water at hand at all times helps, as well as keeping filling low cal foods like melon, broccoli, celery, cucumber or berries (tomato is a berry!) WILL help keep you Fuller and help the cravings. You might not be able to eat the same meals as your hubby right now. Even McD's will serve you a burger with half a bun, and Subway will fix any sub as a salad. If I leave off the high calorie dressings and have them use the vinaigrette it's pretty good, and very filling! Don't put yourself down! Find that creative fun part of you that can help you say "I got this!", Because you will!

Barbara AHMOD, I'm glad your husband is seeking out healthier food and drink on his own. Allan was very much the same - if it didn't fit with his notion of what was "manly" in the way of food, he wasn't interested. I eventually got him to eat yogurt. That was after I thought of convincing him it was "medicinal" and he didn't have to like it, lol!
Rebecca, that third picture looks very much like the hint of a smile! Don't tell ME they're all gas!
Kim from N CA, I see you sticking to your guns. I am a Board Mber of a nonprofit. Iny experience, many nonprofits are not blessed with folks who have mad financial skills. Some are good at spending it, while others can be good at the rah-rah fundraising, but skills in just plain managing it or even keeping track of it are scarce on the ground. You may be creating a niche neither you nor they anticipated.

Rebecca-Athena is beautiful!!!
Scary stormy day here, complete with tornado warnings. My daughter was home alone as I had taken my aunt’s laundry to her. The sky was beautiful, and there was not a hint of a problem. I walk in my aunt’s house and the tornado siren starts. They never spotted a funnel cloud, but the wind was over 70 mph. I called my daughter and she went to the basement. I waited out the worst of it and headed for home. Poor child was so scared. She’s almost 16, but this was the first time she has been alone during a really bad storm.
Then it cleared up and we made quesadillas. Went to the gym together later in the evening.

Barbara AHMOD: I didn't try to persuade DH about healthy food. However, he often asked to try what I was having if it was different, and often liked it. So, I started giving him the option of having what I was having, and now I seldom have to cook separate meals. A bit like training children, really. Give them two or three sensible options, so that they are in 'control'. Works the majority of the time, and saves a lot of hassle.
Already did 20 minutes of lower body strength, and 16 minutes of yoga. Folded laundry and put it away. Have another load almost dry, so planning to square it away later.
The weather is showery, so planning to blitz the dinning room this morning, and tackle some of the clutter that has built up in the hobbies room after lunch.3 -
Barbara - regarding the Tandoori Chicken Kebabs. .... I don't have a recipe, but I make a yogurt mix with a tiny bit of chilli powder, ginger powder, cumin powder, garam masala, tiny bit of turmeric, coriander and some garlic. Seasoning to taste. Squeeze of lemon. Marinade the chicken pieces (this time I used skinless breasts) for as long as you have. Thread the pieces on to metal skewers and grill at your highest heat. You call it broil I think, though you can also bake them. Very good done on a bbq. The important thing is it should be very hot so you get a bit of char on the outside before it over cooks. A real tandoori clay oven is super hot.
Obviously you can have this with whatever you like, rice, salad, veg, etc but I always serve it with some raita (yoghurt, scallions, garlic, lemon juice and mint) I like peri peri sauce with mine, but I have that on lots of things!
My tip is to line the grill pan with foil. Also you can wear rubber gloves for the skewering.
I LOVE it. It's the kind of food I can eat even when I don't feel much like anything else. A bit of a hassle, but worth it. It's delicious as cold left overs. (We never have any)

Went to hear one of the T'ai Chi gals sing in local theatre production of Oliver! She was amazing, and the only one who sang a cappella.

Kim wouldn't it be great if you could negotiate grant proposals for retirement fund? Was thinking about your dental insurance, dental insurance here just isn't worth it. Only covers one exam, 1 set of X rays, two "normal" cleanings a year and a percentage (30%?) off fillings, crowns, root canals, extractions, root planings. Is there a dental school within driving distance?

Terri Love your strategic approach! Fortunately for me, Joe cooks his own meals (we eat at very different times and mostly different stuff), tho' I do prep a bowl of veggies for him every other day and sometimes a bowl of fruit.
Way over today on CICO, not enough activity, succumbed to a real coke at the theatre, then topped it all off with a slice of carrot cake. Tomorrow Joe may feel well enough to go into town, my chance to burn off some of today's indulgence with a fit of vacuuming... naaah :noway:

Good morning all! Happy MOnday! Got out in the yard yesterday, late morning/early afternoon, while I was waiting for Trentin to arrive. I was moving a pile of sticks, small branches (I tend to toss all sticks/branches into a pile by my air conditioner, while I am mowing) and found a teeny tiny wasp nest. I poked it a couple of times to be sure nothing was going to come after me, then picked it up. The papery part fell away and I was left with a honeycomb of wasp eggs and larva. It was pretty cool! I brought it inside to show Tim and Colin. Neither was very impressed; in fact Tim was appalled that I was handling it. lol Anyway, I tossed it into the outside trash bin (as it was a wasps nest, not a bee nest) and headed back to my yard work. I rounded the corner of the house and the nest area was swarming with about twenty wasps. All searching the ground (looking for the nest). I decided to work on my roses instead. lol Tonight, after the kids leave, I will have to go buy some wasp spray (the kind that shoots from far away) and spray the area.
Rebecca - Oh, be still my heart! Baby Athena! That face! She is just delicious! I love the pic of her on your chest! Breathe in that lovely baby smell!
Katla- Oh, I hope you get to see your daughter and grandchildren! It is hard to handle the distance when you have a spouse that has a hard time traveling. Would you be able to drive or fly on your own? Or are you and your DH not comfortable with that option? A bus trip perhaps? I think the next time I drive to Texas, we will rent a van, so that we can put some type of mattress or pad in the back so Tim can lay down to ease an aching back or joints. This October, I will be flying down!
Rita- You really look absolutely fantastic! The transformation in you from the time before you set out on your campground adventure until now is inspiring! I bet you feel amazing!
I can't believe I am three weeks away from seeing Lauren, Jaime and Joaquin! They will be bringing Chappie the wonder dog with them; so I will have a dog to walk as well! Seeing as how they will not be able to be with us for Christmas again this year; I have decided to put up Christmas decorations for their stay and to have a gingerbread house building contest just for them. I have a few toys/books I have been saving for Joaquin, so I think I will wrap them up and put them under the tree.

Baby gas can’t smiles a myth. My Daughter the Doctors told me she’s not smiling it’s gas.So I handed her to them bam giant frown angry sounds. Took her bag big beaming smiles.Did it a few times until the doctor said okay your right babies can smile. Thankyou I knew I was right I chirped lol. JR only smiles when he’s happy then straight to scared or this weird face that we didn’t know after awhile he started saying I’m MAD 😡! So had to speak up early to correct us on how he felt lol looked so funny not all mad looking. He smiled in the womb we caught a foto when Dad y me stopped talking the smile proofed.Got the Doctor tickled he said he definitely knows your voices. I find gas is more a grimace smile y regular smile got twinkly eyes.
Daughter visiting soon so getting ready she bought JR a toy lizard that runs. For our home a diffuser all from Cracker Barrel restaurant. Excited about the visit.
Maintaining weight for now was super good yesterday to make up from surprise meL from hubby. Drank Enfamil toddler milk on my cereal JR won’t touch it don’t want the exspensive stuff to go to waste!Same ingredients as ensure vanilla drinks.
Hubby bought Flounder cause it’s 70 calories then a bag of 100calories tilapia. Told him he should have bought 2 flounders ! 70cal can’t beat that!! Could have 3 in one sitting instead of 2 tilapia! So our fish type is definitely changed. Think it all happened because their was only 1 tilapia left . Sams usually is well stocked must be 4th of July pre-stocking up like us.

KJ: I can fly if that is the only solution. The RV is currently getting work done & I’m not to enthused about taking it several thousand miles. I can fly on my own and have done it before but it is not something I enjoy. :ohwell:
All of our travel plans are uncertain. The RV is currently in the repair yard. It had a leak over the winter in the storage unit & it needs to be resolved before we can get out of town for the July fourth festivities here. I would love to drive it across the country, but DH is not enthused with that idea. He has suggested putting me on a jet to see the kids. I’ve done it before and can do it again, but I still hope for the adventure of the drive.

We walked all the way into town (an hour and a quarter) to fetch the fedora they had said they were reserving for us.
There was no reserved hat, she had sold it the day after she had emailed DH and said she would keep it for him.
We were furious, of course. I was going to buy a sunhat there, but we stomped out in disgust. She offered to post us a fedora at her expense, but that means you have to be in to take the parcel. I think DH was so disgusted he wanted nothing more to do with it.
Well, we had got our exercise, by the time we got home with shopping on the bus, we had walked for an hour and three quarters for bonus calories. Good job, as I had 377 calories of Millionaire Shortbread in a coffee shop!
