DS & DDIL have gone off for a long cycle ride in their smart new gear. Matching helmets and shoes.
What kind of bicycles?

Machka - I will ask them.

We finally got outside for a bicycle ride for the first time in about a month. Exciting! The weather cleared at last!! We had another "winter/early spring storm" this past weekend ... hopefully that's it. Anxiously awaiting spring!
Oh, never mind ... Monday looks like another little blast.
Cloudy. Very high chance of showers, most likely in the morning with possible small hail. Snow falling above 600 metres. Winds SW 30 to 45 km/h turning W 20 to 30 km/h in the evening. Overnight temperatures falling to between 2 and 5 with daytime temperatures reaching between 7 and 12.

Question: My 16 lb Pom will be 10 yrs old this month. He was trained to use a peewee pad and lately he totally misses and it gets all over the floor. Does anyone have a suggestion as to how to get him on the middle of the pad?
Thanks for any help,
Carol in GA1 -
morning Ladies~ Peachy I don't know what to tell you about that.. unless maybe you spray something around where the wee wee pad is..
I am having my tea and will be off in a bit to feed my DFIL.. my girlfriend Trudy took me to a late lunch,, I had steak, broccoli with cheese sauce and a salad with Blue Cheese on the side, it was lovely and got oodles of new to me clothes,, now to wash them and purge my closet..5 -
Carol Try making a bigger target with 2 overlapping pads or a larger pad. If that fails, you may have to resort to belly bands. Let me know if you want specific info on our disposable belly band routine. I don't like it because we have a bigger "footprint", but it has proven to be the only way we can manage both peepee & skincare for our heart failure dog Bailey (he's on diuretics).
Debby in VA OMG look at that beautiful produce. You have a produce market on your farm?
I am loving all the animated emojis, they just make me smile. It also makes me miss @DamitJanit even more.

@Machka9 that's great to know about eucalyptus. that is not known in France. I went to an allergy doctor maybe 10 years ago or soand she said my dustmite allergy was very strong, (she tested me 2 days in a row for allergens and the bumps for dust mites were still there the next day when she tested for other stuff. she said that was not common) but didn't recommend eucalyptus and it wasn't on the flyers she gave me. (which included info on bedding, etc.) What is a physio? Physiotherapist? There is a clinic that's top on knees so I'm gonna see what I can find. I don't know that there are physiotherapists specialised in knees here. Maybe. I can ask the clinic w good knee work about it. I will surely never run again. it's often ill-advised for older women fragile bones and risk of osteoporosis-cause breaks.and even for others. I enjoyed it, but I had problems w my right foot last year (maybe Morton's syndrome) and the x ray person said that it was apparent that I used my feet a lot. I believe seeing that in an x-ray for a 55 year old is not necessarily a great thing. Great about your progress on your hip and food progress, though. I ran when I was 16-20 and started having knee or back pain and noticed most runners had some kind of related pain, so stopped till in my late 40s when I was seeing a running guy and finally got into running towards the end of our relationship and kept it up for a few years afterwards, till I had the foot thing last year. it's so easy, quick, economical, great for endorphins, and getting some light and air, but hey, there must be other ways to get all that stuff.
@exermom it used to always take me back to where I last posted but now it always takes me to page one. if I miss a day, I am unable to read all the posts for sure. I definitely get scratchy throat or cough from gluten-stuff and sometimes even non-gluten grains, but that is variable. is it dryer in NC? I found in really northern climates (upstate ny and in England) I get much worse allergies at times, and the antihistamines are just a drop in the bucket. I hypothesised that the growing season is so short that the plants must be more active, but I really don't know. Also those places are not dry at all. I'm pretty ok in Colorado which is relatively dry.
@AZTeri2016 I'm sorry about your very bad year. Congratulations on losing the 18 pounds!
@TerriRichardson112 awesome about all the writing
@Anniesquats100 congratulations on the SV!
@momhiebert Welcome! you'll find lots of tips here.
@auntiebk I haven't seen a pt yet. I only got the prescription to see one on Thursday. things are slow here in august (need time to get an MRI and go back to doctor) and the two local drs didn't believe I had a meniscus tear until after the MRI. (thank goodness for the dr in the village on vacation who made the right diagnosis which made me insist to the local drs for follow up). my landlady is a dr too and she said I should see a rheumatologist 1st and then go to PT after according to what the rheumatologist says.
@cityjaneLondon enjoy the babysitting tomorrow! I'm pretty sure you can at least copy and paste from memo pad to word even if you can't transfer all files.
@LyndaBSS ha ha ! glutton-free diet sounds good!
@cmsavells good that it's just a migraine. that must be annoying to have spent 7h in ER for that. so sorry about allergy situation. do you take antihistamines or anything? I have allergy more in the spring and avoid dairy and cut back on grains and so-so food (sugar, alcohol, much starches) when I see allergy symptoms and it seems to help. Also eating watery food seems to help : brothy soups, cukes, zucchini, watermelon (in late spring here). Have you tried to see if what you eat or drink has any play on the allergies?
@ginnytez sorry your knee is still bothering you. I feel like I need to not touch it so much at present. yeah curtains can be mid-range color and cut out all seeing in or out I think. I have turquoise curtains in the bedroom and they cut the light out very well. even w not cats I don't get expensive curtains. I find they get worn out after a few short years.

Karen Va ~ Thanks! I had never heard of belly bands and I will investigate. I have used 2 & 3 pads at one time and even tried putting cans around the edge but he still misses.

I feel sooo tired. I guess it's maybe coming home at 1-ish and having had 2 glasses of wine. Life is late here, so coming home at 1ish here might be like coming home at 11 in Boston. If you go to an evening party and leave at midnight here, you're considered to be leaving on the early side. Sun rises and sets later here though so that is part of it. Sun rising at 7:20 now and setting at 8:20 pm. it's a full hour earlier in Boston for similar length day. (we also have daylight's savings).
I was planing on doing stuff today but feel like crashing.
I only went to café and was planing some stuff and skimmed the paper and sketched very briefly, got some groceries and heated up a frozen dish on double boiler.
Was to meet a friend-classmate at 4 but fortunately got to postpone till 5:30.
The frozen dish I had was bibimbap. I had never heard of that and now I seem to see it relatively often. it's a bit heavy on the rice but not bad. the instructions given only said how to reheat w microwave. am I the only one on earth w out a microwave? I double boiled and that worked fine.
MFP computer issue
I also have issue with caps coming on suddenly when in MFP.i'm not sure if I have it happen other times.then I have to put the caps on for it to be non-caps and then it goes away. does anyone else have that issue? weird.
I am so lacking exercise this week with my unhappy knee. last week I went to the gym 2x to work shoulders and abs and then I had (and still have a bit) shoulder issues.
we went to this loud jazz concert last night in a small place. I wasn't sure but I thought possibly the vibrations from the music weren't bad for the knee.
I found this :"(...)researchers found that wounds exposed to vibration five times a week for 30 minutes healed more quickly than wounds in mice of a control group." for what it's worth. https://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2014/03/140331153647.htm "This technique is already in clinical trials to see if vibration can improve bone health and prevent osteoporosis," Koh said.
they are talking about vibration and not just music.
I just read that the maximum decibels for 15 minutes is 102 in France and there was a machine listing the decibels and It was around 109. not easy to control with horns (sax and trumpet) and drums in a small space I guess;
I had a musician friend who used to bring earplugs out with him for such occasions.
gosh, so tired.

Did an hour of balance games on the Wii. The plan for tomorrow is to do one segment of 10MS Butt Lift DVD then take the extremepump class.
Terri – when our lawn mower finally died, Vince asked me which type I wanted. I told him “I don’t care about the brand, but it MUST have an electric start. If it doesn’t, don’t even bother showing it to me.” Good for you purging your summer clothes before putting them away. You’ll have more room. Congrats on the weight loss and physio. I like hearing about successes…all kinds
Workout – if I worked at a farmers market, the biggest problem I would have is that I’d eat all the profits! Do you sell golden beets? How about purple potatoes? Burpee Hybrid cantaloupes (after having one, I will never go back to an Athena again)? Red okra (haven’t had any this year, couldn’t find it)
Bananas – it definitely is not as humid in our part of NC as when we lived in PA. One day while we were putting things into storage right before we moved it was 102. I thought for sure we were going to die. No problem getting things into storage. That’s because we didn’t have the humidity.
Found yesterday that during the day it’s hot and sunny so I can go in the pool. But later like after dinner the part of the deck where I usually string the popcorn is in the shade so I was working on that yesterday. Didn’t get a whole lot done before it got dark, but something is better than nothing
Do you know that the cut I got from the weedwacker is still occasionally bleeding? That’s not like me at all. I usually have a really good clotting factor. When I went to the dermatologist, he put a band aid on it and that stretchy, stick-to-itself stuff around it so the bandage stays tight. I’m keeping the sticky stuff but I need to change the band aid after I go in the pool

@exermom that's my experience w humidity. in Colorado if it's 90 in the shade with a light breeze, no big deal, and cool nights. in NYC 90s tends to come muggy and last all night.2

It's quite possible that the allergy specialists in France wouldn't suggest eucalyptus ... it probably isn't as prevalent there. Over here in Australia, it's all eucalyptus and tea tree.
Yes, a physio is a physiotherapist. There are physiotherapists who specialise in all sorts of different areas.
Here, a GP will send you to a specialist doctor for something (like a sports doctor for knees, hips, etc., or a gynaecological oncologist for cancer of women's areas, etc.), then if possible, between the GP and the specialist, you'll be sent to a physiotherapist.
I'm seeing three different physiotherapists.
One may also be a podiatrist ... I'm a little bit unclear if she's a podiatrist, a physio or somehow both. She's treating my feet.
One specialises in gynaecological things. After two surgeries for my pre-cancer in my women's areas, things aren't working really well down there anymore. The gynaecological physio is helping me improve matters as much as possible.
And the final one is working with me in pilates classes designed to improve my hip situation. At some point, I really should move over to another one in that office who specialises a bit more in leg things, running and other sports. However, I'm with the current one because she's working with my husband ... so we're both going to the same pilates class and seeing the same physio. She specialises in vestibular disorder and she focuses on balance exercises and similar with my husband. She is getting advice from the leg/running/sport one for me.
The plus side is that you get people who specialise ... the downside is that you can end up going to a lot of appointments.
View from where we were staying this weekend ... like I say, all eucalyptus!!

Good morning all! Happy Sunday! Yesterday, I slept in until 6:30am, got up and got my shopping done, errands ran, and came home, cleaned house and prepped food for the week. Today, I will have some paperwork to do, and also mowing the lawn again, (but it looks like rain). There is also a little more food prep I need to get done. I am putting myself back on my high protein/low carb meal planning again. I have prepped foods to make this an easier choice for this week. I have my inside out egg roll (cabbage and carrot), pre-bagged 1lb veggie bags to add to meals/snacks, shredded some chicken in the crockpot, and by the end of the day will have some tomato soup made and greens washed and prepped for salads. I can do this! This summer cold has been running amok in my body. Started in my sinuses, moved to chest and throat, now making it's way to my tummy/digestive system. Hopefully that means it is "on it's way OUT"! I have been a naughty girl and have been drinking the wine that hubby is "gifting" me with. He knows I enjoy a glass or two on the weekends; but I don't think it is helping with my cold recovery, and I have had two-three glasses each day (the past couple of weekends) as I go about my cleaning and cooking. THAT has got to stop. Maybe he needs to bring me a precut veggie tray instead of wine...
Pip- So proud of you and Kirby! You guys are a dynamic duo! Not sure if that makes Kirby Batman or Robin; but I bet he looks good in tights either way!
Terri- LoveloveLOVE your cardigan you crocheted! Those colors look lovely on you!
Michele- Bashful turned out so adorable! Do you have a changing room or cabana you could set him outside of?! Where did you place him?
Bananas- I am also dealing with knee and ankle issues. I am still 80 pounds over goal. I ran track in high school, but it was just "something to do because my friends were doing it". When I was young, I was quite thin, but was opposed to anything that made me sweat and get my hair "messy". I started running as an adult when I was about 47 and I weighed about 10 pounds less than I do right now when I started. The weight came off quickly when I added running and I really enjoyed the endorphin rush and the "quiet time" I got from it. My goal is to get 10 more pounds off and upgrade my walks to runs. Bibimbap- I am going to have to put that on my list of foods to add to my meal plan. I will have to go pretty skimpy on the rice; but as a vegetable dish, it looks right up my alley. Plus you can add proteins.
Heather- lol YOu know I love my Fatboy Slim! What a fun little town you are in and how cool that he valued a little place enough to save it from closure and keep it going so other people can enjoy! Glad that things are moving along for you in your efforts to change up your computer programs and transfer files. (Did I use the correct computer jargon?) Computer-ese is like a foreign language to me. If you ask me, Duolingo or some of the other language sites could do well to put that up as a language choice. Computer-ese. Your son and DIL look like they are about to take off on an adventure! Have fun with the kids!
Carol- Sorry to hear about your cat! Is his sight okay?
Well, there are more of you I wanted to respond to, but if I do, I will get into "lazy" mode as it gets closer to 10am and not get anything done. (I slept until 7:30 this morning).
OH! I got rid of the egg carton spaceship! Another provider came with a pick up and her hubby and took it. Funny thing was, I had it all ready to go out the door in two separate pieces, but as soon as we picked it up it just fell apart! She still took it and reassembled it back at her daycare home. Yea! It was a fun thing to build and play in- but I am so glad to have my living room back!
Much love to you all! ttfn xoxoxo KJ (Kelly)

Terri, It is starting to feel like autumn here, too. We are not quite as far north as you but the leaves are starting to turn and yesterday we harvested our two little pumpkins. I have so few clothes that I don't have to rearrange anything for the change of seasons. I like keeping things simple.
I need to use my flashlight more in the mornings for our walk since the sun is coming up later. I love the changes in the seasons and find that after a time a welcome the return to darkness for walking the dogs.

We had a lovely weeekend away courtesy of my sister-in-law. She organised a place for us to stay for a couple nights right on the beach. Unfortunately we had a late blast of winter so we weren't able to get out and about much, but that's OK. We relaxed instead. The first afternoon/evening was mainly watching movies and sitting/lying around. I also baked lava cake for dessert.
The second day we did get out for a walk during a break in the weather, then my SIL came over with dinner and a little kitty, Trim (and if you know your Australian history, you'll know where that name came from ). Dinner was great ... tacos! And I baked an apple crumble for dessert. Trim stayed the night ... first time I've had a kitty around that long in ages. Wonderful!! He spent most of the night curled up with me.
We came home today, and since it was a nice afternoon, we went out for a short bicycle ride ...

KJ - almost all of my ceramics go outside around out pool. I will eventually have all 7 dwarfs and Snow White. We have all rocks around the pool and I just wanted something with color since the rocks are all brown. So enter ceramics. I do find that doing ceramics is so very relaxing.
M - you look so great with a kitty (hint, hint)
Michele NC2 -
Michele-we have golden beets, purple potatoes, purple sweet potatoes, purple skin white sweet potatoes, red and white sweet potatoes, red okra ,almost all the winter squashes and pumpkins, muscadine and scuppernong grapes, butter beans,Too much more to list.We grow all our summer squashes. And I do enjoy all of it.The tomatoes are Soo good.I could go on,but y’all get the picture.

Talking about vegetables, on the walk to the grandkids we passed an organic veg stall that is only there on Sunday mornings. Fantastic local stuff. Will definitely check that out another weekend.
My son and wife cycled for well over two hours, up and down really big hills! My son is not super fit, as he has had a lot of bad injuries, so he was really feeling it after our delicious lunch.
Here is the elevation.
Here they are on the top of Ditchling Beacon, with the Weald of Sussex behind them. I spent my teenage years in the Weald.
Machka - I know nothing about bikes, but they told me DDIL 's is a Langma Giant Viv. Made by a woman for women.
My son's is a Cube Attain SL 500 with a 105 gear.
None of that means anything to me!
We had a great time with DH playing football in the garden until gone 2 pm.
Then we walked home, making my day's total 600 calories, as I polished off 400 early this morning.
Just having scrambled eggs tonight. With arugula.
Much love, Heather UK xxxxxxx

Pip & Kirby: WTG!!! Thank you both for “Livin the Dream” and helping the fight against MS!
Rebecca: The mean neighbor moved away a couple of years ago. YAY!!! The people who live there now are delightful.
Heather: DS and DDIL are looking great in the bike gear.
Carol: I would consider a trip to the vet for a check-up if this is new behavior for your dog. Could he be having eye trouble? Our dog seems to be developing cataracts. His pupils are a bit cloudy but he seems to see well enough so far. :flowerforyou:
Barbie: Our deciduous trees are still green, but this morning we’re having weather that feels a bit like fall is coming in the near future.
Today it feels like the seasons are beginning to change, and this morning's cool, misty weather makes being warm inside the house feel cosy. DH and the dog both seem to be sleeping in.

I would dearly love a nip of fall in the air. We are still reaching 98 degrees daily with super high humidity with no end in sight for the 10 day forecast. My sinuses are suffering with the ragweed pollen in abundance.
