Getting ready for some more hot and humid this week. Supposed to be close to 90 most days. It's what we called "Indian Summer" when I was young. Don't know if it politically correct to use the term anymore (tough to keep up with all the changes). It used to be we knew just what to say if we wanted to insult someone, now you can insult and not even know you did. All a matter of balance and trying to be sensitive to others, but I think folks at both ends can go overboard.
Work will be insane this week. Meetings and interviews. Church events three nights this week. I will so enjoy Friday evening.
Need to research best type of calcium to take. Doc wants me to take Vitamin and calcium. Realized since I started back on some I had in the house, it is messing with my digestive system (yes, constipation). The one I have at home has a mix of citrate and carbonate. I think the carbonate is the problem. Not sure what I will try, but I am sure Google has the answer somewhere.
Since I have been up since 4 am for no good reason except that is when I woke up, going to bed early. Need to be at work by 7 am for a meeting tomorrow. Doing well with eating and steps

connie I have been taking percogesic and it eliminates my migraines almost immediately. I get the percogesic from amazon.
I've also recently been put on amitriptyline 50 mg for my anxiety. Prior to using it, I was getting headaches or migraines daily. Now, I rarely have any kind of headache.
Maybe something to look into? ❤
My headache specialist put me on 20mg Elavil (amitriptyline) for chronic tension headaches. Went from 15 times a month taking 25mg Imitrex to taking none! Elavil works so well. Take it at night and helps with sleep as well.

I usually go to mahjongg but the gal told me that they’re not having it since she has to go away and another gal can’t make it.
After exercise stopped at the Salvation Army, didn’t get anything. Then went to this outlet to get Vince bread, then to Aldi to get a few things. Tonight after ceramics I want to stop at Lowe’s foods to get one item that’s on sale that I have a coupon for and then we need to go to WalMart since we only have one band aid and I need band aids. We’ll probably get a few other things, too
Went to ceramics tonight and put sleepy in to be refired. We shall see how it turns out. Wed. I should be finished with Bashful and put him in to be fired. Started working on this humorous turtle. I don’t know what else to call him.

Appointments -- somehow ... I have no appointments this week!! I don't know how that happened!! Just work and university and a university presentation on Wednesday and my project due on Friday. But no appointments!!
Veggies -- my husband has a whole pile of seeds now and will be planting soon. The October long weekend (last weekend of October) is apparently the ideal time to get tomatoes started. We've only got small garden areas, but can get a surprising amount of veggies out of it!
IF -- turns out I do this accidentally. I stop eating about 11 pm at night and resume eating close to noon. So 13 hours without eating, and I do all my eating in an 11-hour window.Autumn purging Ten years ago I moved from a large home into a one bedroom apartment. I thought it would be short term and that I'd buy again. But after a lifetime of single parenthood and practically doing all of my own maintenance and repairs on my home, myself, I was more than happy to let apartment maintenance folks replace the dishwasher and hot water heater when they died.
Everything I needed came with the apartment: exercise/fitness room, pool and Jacuzzi spa, and privacy, as well as beautiful walking paths through the woods, along creeks and a river nearby that I enjoy often. I haven't looked back.
I lived in a decent apartment for 13 years in Manitoba, Canada ... 7 with my then-husband and 6 on my own. If I find myself on my own again, I think I'd likely go into an apartment again. It was nice having almost everything taken care of.My BFF, who is 48 and in peri-meno, had been going through 3 days of pain and heavy bleeding. Finally went to the ER yesterday - ovarian cyst had burst and 3 fibroids. And she has the migraines on top of it. She'd been on progesterone which had helped, went to a new doc who decided to wean her off - looks like she'll be back on it and perhaps a D & C in her future.

In 2014, when I was 47, I started getting my periods every couple weeks and they'd last anywhere from 7-10 days. Some months I was on my period more than I was off. And heavy periods. I had been doing some swimming once in a while prior to that year, but had to stop because I just never knew when I was going to "explode".
I figured it was just perimenopause and I'd have to wait it out.
Finally, after a year of this, I got fed up and went to my Dr ... early Dec 2014. She rushed me off to a specialist who squeezed me into an appointment on Dec 23, and I was in surgery in early January. I had a very large pre-cancerous polyp which they had to remove in sections.
That settled things down until late 2016 when it started up again. In May 2017, I had another surgery to remove a large pre-cancerous polyp, a D&C, and a treatment for pre-cancer throughout the area.
It is good to get these things checked ... it might not be just perimenopause!! I feel for your friend, but once she gets it sorted, she should feel much better.

@ginnytez - this weather is the pits!! I think it’s supposed to be 92-98 in Louisville all week. Cooling off to the upper 80s by weekend. It’s ridiculous! I remember needing a jacket in Columbus by mid to late September.
Come on Fall!! It’s so hot I can’t get motivated to decorate the house for fall!!

Didn't scan docs today, will tomorrow. Did some firehouse paperwork, walked Tumble, got first haircut in over two years. Sweet gal persuaded me to "embrace the curls" but doesn't want me to comb or brush, just finger and scrunch. :noway: Can't do it. Will see how it looks after brushing at nights and combing in shower. For now I look rather like a bloodhound (saggy face, droopy eyes) with VERY long brown poodle fur in ringlets. [sigh]
Lisa not in AR, well done on the labs but most especially on the pants!

Michelle, when DDS was removing temporary cement before seating my permanent crown he touched a nerve or something. I screamed and levitated and he and his assistant both jumped back 3 feet. Numbed it and a few minutes later he could proceed. Novacaine is a miracle.

Ginny in OH, the rule of thumb my chiro taught me was be sure to take magnesium with your calcium, in the ratio of 2 calcium to 1 magnesium, so 500 mg calcium with 250 magnesium is a good place to start. Also told me not to take more than 500 mg calcium at a time but take it two or three times a day to help with absorption. Good luck!

Day 9 of "Reinventing Rhonda"
Had a check up today with my my new general doctor today. Long story, short: after review and talk about all the resent visits to specialists, their recommendations, the prescription for an inhaler, and diet, exercise, and MFP, I've was give a big green light to go forward losing weight, etc. I figured he'd do that. I assumed he would. For me, personally, the visit was more about thanking him for pointing me in the direction of the specialists - my former doc of 20+ had never mentioned two slightly abnormal lab tests that had been showing up as far back as 2009! It's good to why I hadn't been feeling right for so long and how remedy the situation. So grateful for this man
I walked a mile today and stayed under the my limits except for fats . . . ugh
I love cream and dairy. But, alas, I am choosing to severely curtail those things beginning tomorrow!
Warm wishes to all!

Hi all, heating on this morning for a few hours! It's set to warm up over the day.
DH is off to cricket every day for four days this week and the same next week. They have crowded so much into September because of the World Cup in the summer. He has a 100+ minutes journey each way. Quite a lot for nearly 74. We get up early and have early breakfast. I will leave him a cooked meal for when he gets in. I have to eat earlier.
Unfortunately he will miss the Swing dancing classes this evening, but I will go on my own.
Karen - When you submit your work online they kind of rearrange it into book form and show you what it looks like. Then they tell you what is wrong with your formatting, i.e. margins, gutters, starting on even pages etc. You can have their "fix it" format at that point and do all your fiddling in that. I am trying this time to start with the fix it format so I don't have to go through so many steps! DH ignored all that and did not produce a professional looking book.
I have no idea whether my copied format will be accurate, but it seems a good start.
I have never worked in an office, or had to produce documents, so much of it is a mystery. I always had proper publishers to make sense of my bad typing and scribbles.
Of course, KDP do have experts on hand, who, for a fee, will produce a nice looking book for you. They are out to make money after all! They can design the whole thing. I have preferred to struggle on. I think my efforts are pretty good.
DON'T LET THE PERFECT BE THE ENEMY OF THE GOOD.
Haven't figured a way, other than a tedious 'drag and drop' to get my videos on the internal drive on my tablet onto my micro sd card. I've done some of them the slow way, but I have 56 to go!
Otherwise the transition, from my old tablet to new, is going OK, if slowly. Everything wants passwords and the bank wants extra verification. I don't like all the features or layout. I am typing on my old one now, but am gradually relinquishing my grip.

Heather Thanks for the explanation. It seems a good idea to start with the format instead of retrofitting. Still not as user-friendly for self-publishing writers as it should be. You can be sure the experts who charge money have a simple program they just plug your submission into & voila! — perfect formatting!
Penny Enjoy the cruise! Another adventure. xoxo

Up & at 'em a little earlier than I wanted to be, but will embrace the luxury of having plenty of time to feed the dogs, sip my tea, and get ready for the day ahead.
I'm thinking of Allie & Chester this morning as I greet my pups. And, because it's still so dark out, I'm thinking of Barbie, who will soon be out there walking her dogs in the peaceful chilly darkness.
Love to all.

Machka - No, it's Hampshire County Cricket near where we used to live. He is a season ticket holder. He probably would go less often, but his BMF is also a season ticket holder and they love to get together.
We were up doing our exercises early. He only managed 250 calories on the elliptical before he had to make sandwiches, pack supplies etc. He and his friend always walk round and round the ground at a good pace during the lunch and tea breaks.
I took the opportunity to do as I pleased, so I broke up my exercise with chores, like cooking a Bolognese sauce and a carrot and rutabaga mash. Plus a whites wash. I quite liked breaking it up like that, I've come out about 20 calories short of my 600, but I will do something this pm. Beautiful day out there.
The only trouble with that system is that it makes it late to do my writing. I am lazy and sleepy in the afternoons.
I have yet to find a suitable place to do my typing out. I create lying on my bed in the morning, with the tv on in the background for company, but I have a huge amount of grunt work to do and a desk and chair might make it easier and quicker. I could buy a small desk for my upstairs room. The dining table downstairs is too high for comfortable typing. DH does his sitting on the sofa, despite having a desk in his study. I might just stick to my bed!!!
I haven't been able to lose weight recently, despite carefully watching CICO. According to the numbers I should be slowly losing. I would like to shave off a couple of pounds before the cruise. The times when DH is out all day are trigger points for me and often have resulted in binging. I am determined it won't happen this time. I'm feeling ok right now, so I'm optimistic.
My son has just rung me to ask if I can take Bea to nursery tomorrow, so he can catch an early train for an all day meeting in London. The older two can go to Breakfast Club. I said yes, and I can take her on the bus , which will be fun for us both, but it totally throws out my exercise and writing routine. Oh well, I'm glad I can help. Both DS and DDIL work so hard at their jobs.
Much love, Heather UK xxxxxxx4 -
Heather - once I had the format out for my first book, I copied that same file, deleted everything out except the headers and a bit of text in each chapter, and then copied and pasted chapters from the next books into the format that I used for the first one, made things much easier. Still a little glitchy, and I always get the initial proof to make sure things didn't go wonky, but it worked pretty well. If you do a search for "KDP formatted templates," you may well find a Word template for free that will help, already created for the size of the book you want to publish. They have them free for download in Amazon's US section--but don't know if that will work for UK Word and UK KDP: https://kdp.amazon.com/en_US/help/topic/G201834230
Penny - enjoy your trip! Don't let us pressure you into guilt for not communicating, just drop in when you can and let us know how you're doing. You're part of the family...

Thank you to all who answered with suggestions and hugs yesterday. That stupid number on the stupid scale has far more power in my brain than I wish it to have... but 45 years of allowing it to do so has created that groove in my gray matter, I'm afraid. This morning, after two days on IF, I actually dropped back a pound, and it has me all happy. That's almost more worrying than the panic. One pound is literally one half of one percent of my overall weight, and it could be something as minimal as not drinking enough liquid yesterday, or eating less salt than I have been, rather than the IF. But I'm blissfully happy because the number changed.
And on top of that my traitorous brain is saying, "Maybe it's the exercise - you should stop the resistance work!" This is because I hate resistance work, and find it boring, not because it's actually true. Don't get me wrong, there is a certain amount of truth to it - the exercise did kick off this recent gain, and I was aware that it probably would. But it's not because I'm lifting enough weight to change my muscle mass perceptibly yet--I tend to work with light weights, moving fairly fast. The exercise gears up my inner addict because I'm expending more energy, which gives her permission to break loose and eat more (and unhealthy) food. Thus the reason why Karen in VA's suggestion was very apt yesterday.
So, I will go and do the dang resistance work today, because I want to change one thing at a time (as in moving to IF) and stick with it so I know that is whether it makes a difference... rather than changing a bunch of things and not knowing which one actually worked. Which is more my usual mode, admittedly.
Tough week... but even these pass. They all do, one way or the other. Sometimes we sail through them, and sometimes we trudge... but they all pass.
Trudging along (ignore the self-pity party... it will be over soon)...

Good morning all! Happy Tuesday! I got up early, got my 30 minutes of weight/resistance work in, got the trash out (garbage day), got a load of laundry started, sitting with coffee now, just finished answering some emails and now I get to chat with all of you!
Lanette- SAdly, I haven't heard a thing from Trentin's mom. I am not sure what is going on; but it is out of my hands now. Yes, I was dreading the loss in losing that income; but we finally got a check from Tim's mom's estate and that will allow us to continue until I can be approved for group and begin taking more children.
Karen VA- So proud of you and your grandson and how you have navigated his educational needs and are making things work for him!
IF- I can't do the intermittent fasting every day. I wake at 5am and am awake until 9 or 10pm many nights. I am pretty active during that whole time, what with my own personal exercise time, my daycare kids, my family/house and yard upkeep. I make better choices (for me and the kids) if I am not hungry. So...my meals usually go something like this: 7am coffee, 8am yogurt and berries or protein drink, noon- the veg portion of my lunch, 2pm the protein portion of my lunch, 6pm protein, veg, and some fat (nuts or cheese). Now this is where I should just not eat or drink anything else; but I have picked up the habit of watching Stranger Things and, as usual, eating seems to go hand in hand with the tv. Fortunately, I have caught up on that show; so now is the time to ignore the tv and find something more constructive to do with that time. Maybe a walk with Tim...
It was like Christmas yesterday at my house! I got two packages in the mail! The first was from my older sister. She sent me about six tops that she saw in the store and thought I would like (she knows I HATE clothes shopping). They are pretty cute and of course, nothing that I would have looked at and thought "Oh! I need to try that on!" And they all looked good on me. lol Gotta love big sisters! The second package was a scholastic book order for one of my parents. She ordered enough books that it allowed me to pick out some books for my daycare kids! Yea! I got them a few new fall/Halloween books. THEN...on top of all of that, I held an online Usborne book party/fundraiser for my daycare and so far it has done over $700 in sales which means I will get a minimum of $350 in free books! My daughter is my Usborne consultant so she also earns money from the sales. A win-win.
Anyway, the day is rolling forward. It seems strange to look outside and it is still pretty dark! Thunder is rumbling, so maybe that is part of the reason. Sending love and hugs to those who need it! ttfn xoxoxo KJ (Kelly)

Lisa ...one more thing...as Barbie would say, you can't control your weight...2
-
Lisa - don't give up the resistance work. It is almost more important than cardio. Building strong bones and muscles will really help your old age. You are probably resisting becoming the strong, slim woman you always wanted to be. After all, if you were, what couldn't you accomplish? Scary, huh?
I always liked this quote from a personal development course I went on. It brought tears to my eyes.
WHO ARE YOU PRETENDING NOT TO BE?
You are that woman.
I can totally relate to binge eating and I never stop thinking about food all day long. One thing that works for me is to make it a bigger part of my life, instead of trying to push it away. Planning and cooking delicious, healthy food and making each meal special, stops me feeling deprived. If I feel deprived I binge on rubbish. Treating myself as someone who deserves beautiful food somehow leaves me more satisfied.
Like Barbie, I have to eat regularly and often. Hypoglycemia stalks me. IF is not a possibility.
Good luck on getting to grips with this phase. It will pass and you will be right back on track.
Love Heather UK xxxxxxxx5 -
Barbie: “The best eating plan is the one you can stick to.” This is so true.
Lanette: I took the Master Gardener’s course decades ago and did some volunteering then. What I learned in that course has served me well. We moved out of that county and I continued to use what I learned in my own garden but haven’t been involved with the extension office since that long ago move. :ohwell:
Penny: I hope you enjoy your cruise and that we hear from you again when you return.
I was having trouble resting so got up and came down stairs. Now DH and the dog are down here, too, at 4:28 AM. I’m probably going back upstairs and back to bed. I wonder whether they’ll join me.
