Beth I'm clamping my mouth shut reading your story. 😣
I'm 61 and have been deathly afraid of the dentist since childhood, to the point of panic attacks and bawling my head off at their office.
When I switched to my husband's dentist a few years back, after having skipped going at all for many years, they helped me get over my fears. Now, I'm proud to say, I go every 6 months for a cleaning.😆
Glad you found a new one that made you feel better.5 -
Barbara - AHMOD - When I want my hair to curl naturally, that's exactly what I have to do, seriously. Can't touch it with a brush or a comb, nothing but my hands, and even then I can't rake my hands through it, other than just a quick finger-comb as a wash it. Every time I touch my hair, I increase the frizz factor. When I can leave it alone, it's glorious curls. Thus the reason I keep it quite short. Because I'm utterly incapable of "embracing the curls." Good luck with it!
Luci, thank you!
Beth, thank you, both for the IF description, and for the scale rationale. I'm scared I simply will stop paying attention and go back up to 303 pounds. It's... not necessarily rational, but it's terribly real.
Meeting in town in an hour and a half, time to go make myself look like I don't work in sweatpants and a t-shirt 99% of the time.
Another town meeting tomorrow over lunch, with a board member, then a quick hour's run up to Rogers. Then I'm traveling Thursday, and ... supposedly, on vacation Friday. Woo-hoo!
Oh, and just found out the daughter, son-in-law, 8-year-old, 5-year-old, German Shepherd, and Lab Mix, will all be here for two days on October 13-15. Which, much as I love them and miss them, is a great relief, as I thought they'd be here for a week, or perhaps two... but they've got to get the 8-year-old signed into school in Kansas (Fort Riley). Two days will be plenty!
Love y'all,
Lisa in AR5 -
Does anyone know how to remove a squashed blueberry stain from a leather seat? 😯1

Didn't scan docs today, will tomorrow. Did some firehouse paperwork, walked Tumble, got first haircut in over two years. Sweet gal persuaded me to "embrace the curls" but doesn't want me to comb or brush, just finger and scrunch. :noway: Can't do it. Will see how it looks after brushing at nights and combing in shower. For now I look rather like a bloodhound (saggy face, droopy eyes) with VERY long brown poodle fur in ringlets. [sigh]
Lisa not in AR, well done on the labs but most especially on the pants!
Rho rightfully proud of the men your sons have become and should also be proud of yourself. Bravissima!
Karen in VA your GS's humor shines through those pics. A great life skill to have.
pip sorry for your disappointment but safety first. You are so magnetic, you could have called the lightning down from the sky!
root canal without novacaine, Beth how did you stand it?
Michelle, when DDS was removing temporary cement before seating my permanent crown he touched a nerve or something. I screamed and levitated and he and his assistant both jumped back 3 feet. Numbed it and a few minutes later he could proceed. Novacaine is a miracle.
Welcome thenewmsdiggs.
Yvonne in TX I'm coveting your overnight Celtic festival campout. We have nothing like that nearby and I really miss them. Ah, the sound of approaching bagpipe bands. Ah, men in kilts. AH!
Allie (((hugs))) this is such a very hard time.
Ginny in OH, the rule of thumb my chiro taught me was be sure to take magnesium with your calcium, in the ratio of 2 calcium to 1 magnesium, so 500 mg calcium with 250 magnesium is a good place to start. Also told me not to take more than 500 mg calcium at a time but take it two or three times a day to help with absorption. Good luck!
Lisa in AR ((hugs)). Stupid old numbers. ((hugs)).
Penny try to enjoy the digital detox
Rebecca, please tell me you didn't take that picture? Way too close to those antlers. Athena Rose NEEDS her grandma, please be careful!.

Heather: If your memoir needs to fit in an 8X5 paperback, how thick can it be? I have paper backs that are half an inch thick and others that are 1 1/2 inches thick, or even more. Just wondering. . . .
I accompanied DH to his MS doctor appointment today. My take-away is that he’s doing quite well at managing MS and staying as healthy as possible. He’s lost some weight and is looking better and moving a bit better. The doctor is encouraging him to take the vaccine that prevents shingles. We both had chicken pox as kids. I had my shingrix vaccines a year ago but he refused to do it then. I hope he’ll change his mind. On the good side, he is taking physical therapy prescribed by our regular doctor and it has improved his flexibility and strength.

Today is World Suicide Prevention Day!
"Suicide prevention remains a universal challenge. Every year, suicide is among the top 20 leading causes of death globally for people of all ages. It is responsible for over 800,000 deaths, which equates to one suicide every 40 seconds. Every life lost represents someone’s partner, child, parent, friend or colleague. For each suicide approximately 135 people suffer intense grief or are otherwise affected. This amounts to 108 million people per year who are profoundly impacted by suicidal behaviour. ... For every suicide, 25 people make a suicide attempt and many more have serious thoughts of suicide."
Ginny - I hear you. Forget about Indian summer, we're still in plain old summer down here and the temps are at or near triple digits. It's looking like we may have a storm coming in right now though... crossing my fingers!
Penny - Have fun with your stories and your cruise! We want to hear all about it when you get back!
Barbara - I definitely got my fill of bagpipes and kilted men! It was a lovely weekend and we're lucky to have several good Celtic gatherings within a reasonal driving distance although they don't all allow camping.
Rho - Congratulations on the good checkup! And don't worry, with a little planning you can fit the creamy goodness into your budget if that's important to you. We only buy full-fat milk, I make whole milk yogurt, and I eat cheese on a regular basis.
I don't have much to say for myself today, so instead I'll leave a Public Service Announcement:
For World Suicide Prevention Day (WSPD) and World Mental Health Day (WMHD), this year [the International Association for Suicide Prevention has] interviewing some experts in the field of suicide prevention and research to hear about the work they do and its potential for the future. Visit the web site at iasp.info/wspd2019/ to view the videos.
In the U.S., the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline can be reached 24/7 at 1-800-273-8255 and provides free and confidential support for people in distress.

Hi all, another newcomer here.I know I'm in the minority here, but I weigh myself every day. There are natural fluctuations, but I chart my numbers and watch for trends. When I don't weigh every day, I am prone to deceiving myself.
I weigh daily as well, for the same reason. I need the reality check.Katla I've now had shingles three times. It's awful. Hope your husband changes his mind about the vaccine.
Yikes! I got the shingrix vaccine this year and felt lucky to get it, since there was a bit of a shortage. I've known a few people who've had shingles and it seemed horrible.
I had a planned indulgence today, I work as a tax accountant and one of my clients is a fabulous Mexican restaurant. After putting in a long afternoon there, I treated myself to some spicy beef tacos with lime crema. So, so good.5 -
Welcome newbies! I'm a newbie, too. I joined the group at the 1st of the month and have gotten lots of support in just 10 days!
Machka in Oz Good luck on your presentation tomorrow!
Michele in NC You putting in a DVD and getting moving is inspiring . . . I have several fitness DVDs but never use them. Your writing about using DVDs is inspiring. Perhaps I'll continue to be inspired then one day, wa-la, I'll actually plop one in the machine and get going!!!
Luci in WNC I too have to be careful about blood sugar levels (as well as fats) and their effects on gastroparesis, and have also been to eat small meals often. Along with the smaller meals, I'm changing up what I eat. My hope is that with the healthier foods that there won't be as many fluctuations and that after some 20-25lb weight loss, I'll then be able to do IF - I'm assuming that I'll reach a plateau and IF may be helpful kick starting more weight loss - we'll see. Good luck with your journey
Barbara SOC Aww, thank you for the kind words of acknowledgement P.S. Your Udon soup looked yummy!
Sharon It looks like it might be a little coudy or rainy. I hope nothing dampens your plans. Be safe. Have fun!
Yvonne in TX Thank you for bringing notice to today being World Suicide Prevention Day! This unfortunate event occurred to the fiance of a close relative. The relative blamed/ blames themselves and are stuck. The effect reverberated through our entire family. We still deal with the event via the devastation it caused our family member. In the US, unless one is in prison (where help for mental illness is offered free) little is offered at an affordable cost to those who need it and I think that's sad and shameful.
Day 10 of Reinventing Rhonda
I'm doing my evening check in earlier that usual
It's hard to put myself, my health, first a lot of the time. My "to-do" list(s) often bully me. The "to-do" bully won over the get out and walk angel this morning. I'll begin anew tomorrow.
Have a lovely evening, everyone!

Allie - most people misinterpret this false statement that muscle weighs more than fat. Because it doesn’t. One pound of muscle is equal to 1 pound of fat. It takes up less space if you think of a marshmallow compared to a pebble they both have the same weight but the pebble is more dense.

My lasagna making was a success. Good for portion control. I know when I used to make a complete pan of it, my husband's square would be humongous! Here its more realistic.

Spent most of the day stringing popcorn. Then went to PetSmart to get more food for Lexi. Her blood was tested the other day and the vet said that she’s in the early stages of kidney failure. This is hitting Vince pretty hard, lexi is honestly his favorite, I think it’s because he feels for her for all she’s been thru. So we got her special (translation: expensive) kidney food. Fortunately, she doesn’t eat a whole whole lot of it at any one time
Via Benefits (part of Mars) called today about my going on Medicare. Yuk, but it’s going to happen. I have an appointment to talk with them on October 18.
Tina in CA – welcome! Looking forward to getting to know you better. Good advice to Donna.
Rita – my sympathies. Everything will work out (excuse the pun)
Got a diamond dotz for Colby. The description said it was 12x16. I assumed that meant the finished picture was 12x16. Ah….no. So I’ll be returning it to Amazon and I’ve asked other sellers the size of the picture versus the canvas that it is on. This is the first time that this has ever happened to me.
Donna – welcome!
While Vince was at shooting, made this chocolate thing for him. My throat is scratchy so had one of the orange pops. Made some earlier tonight so had one.
Graciecat – welcome to you, too. Give us a name you’d like to be called and a location (state is enough)
Rho – one of the problems with DVD’s is that after a while I get bored with them and just need new ones. Also, different instructors call things differently. But that I can handle. When I get bored with a DVD, I usually offer it to anyone on here for the cost of the shipping which in the US is usually around $3 or a little less.

Family visiting up a storm not stopping family from Odessa dropping in after the shootings to see us all. JR y my Dad watched a movie eating snacks.
Nope 👎 can’t put the toys 🧸 in the bedroom he’s still too young (Daughter was more mature) he gets hurt easily (accident prone like me y My Dad poor kid lol),puts stuff in his mouth still, won’t go to bed if he has a toy 🧸 so only night night bear 🐻!
Luckily only visitors are my Dad y MIL they don’t care .O clean it up but he drags it out as they ring the door 🚪 bell lol 😂
Thinking of going to my 1st gynecologist. Will see not sure when yet. I put the diffuser light thingy Daughter bought at the sink to enjoy since I’m always cooking y washing dishes! For being on a diet we seem to use twice as much of everything! Hubby started dieting with me so we’re on the same page which is nice 👍! Sides been hurting let’s hope if I get time this or next month maybe the Gyno can figure out why my ovary area hurts so much.
Puppy 🐶 pee pad - May have to go back to the basics or put multiple pads down in one spot to see if he’ll hit one lol 😂. Some folks confine them put pee pads then slowly remove some until Pup gets the hint. Some folks try a whole new route but not much out there for pups versus cats. Can even try spraying vinegar where he has accidents that’s what my cousin does but she’s still potty training long process like me y Potty training JR.

Back to getting ready for more family soon. Night folks2 -
Hi Ginnytez, I am limiting to 1200 calories because that is always what MFP gives me to meet my goal. I began on June 12 at 222 lbs. As of today, I am 202.6, so have lost 19 lbs in 13 weeks which is about 1.4 lbs per week. I started out in June with 0 steps per day (honestly completely sedentary) am now up to walking 5 miles and I try for five times a week. I don't seem to be having a problem staying within my calorie goals IF i eat back calories from my exercise, but on days I don't exercise I am more like 1500 calories which does push me over my limit. I am trying very hard to lose 90-100 lbs. I am hoping this will help with several health issues. I have diabetes 2, hypothyroidism, and most concerning I learned that I have liver disease (I am not a drinker, but have fatty liver disease) and 30 % of my liver has died. So, I need to do this. I am trying really hard to manage my carbs. In past attempts at weight loss, I have counted calories and eaten what I wanted as long as I stayed in calorie range, this was never successful for me. This time, I am really trying to pay more attention to carbs and exercise.
So, Tuesdays are my day for check in. I lost 2.1 lbs this week which except for the very first week is the best week I have had for weight loss. I worked really hard, and I am proud. My daily fasting blood sugar has been below 120 so that is also good. I have been getting in my walks. But, I am still eating back too many calories. I wanted to have 150 left over per day, but that has only happened twice. Most days it is more like 30=50 left. My biggest concern right now is that my feet are all blistery from walking. I have several nice pairs of walking shoes and always wear nice socks, but once the blister started, it just isn't healing. Our weather this week looks like a bit of rain, so I think I will work on my bike the next few days to give my feet a bit of a break.
I have my official blood work on Friday, along with a long put off mammogram. Not looking forward to either of those, but hope to hear good news at my doctor on Tuesday. I have lost 26 pounds since my last visit with him, so I am hoping he will be happy with me.
So far, things are going really well this time. I am encouraged to keep going.6 -
Felt v. productive this morning, knocked out all the firehouse paperwork in between doing a cold water load of lights, vacuuming and cooking corned beef with potatoes, carrots and cabbage. Love that Capricorn Moon energy
Knee started aching at line dance lesson, I'm way overdue to return to the preventative exercises and other mat work.
Welcome Tina in CA, DonnaChristman2015 and graciecat7409.
Beth how dare that insensitive lout scold you for feeling pain. Glad you reported him for the false billing. Hope he quit practicing dentistry and went into demolition of something that has no feelings, like brick walls or boulders.
Rebecca that miso/udon soup pic made my mouth water, but where are the shiitakes?
Lisa thanks for that confirmation. I'm seeing that combing, brushing, even dragging fingers through leaves an unattractive frizz, but my scalp crawls at the thought of not combing and brushing. Today's compromise was that AFTER brushing, I mixed water with new gel, massaged it into the hair and scrunched away. Either it worked better, or I'm getting more used to the look
Still didn't scan docs today. Tomorrow after T'ai Chi and before dog group will try to finish the dog group's email list. Rain stopped and should be sunny tomorrow. Hoping it will dry the deck so I can give it its second coat Thursday.
For now too pooped to say more, but love you all!

Hi everyone, I'm another newbie to this group but have been on MFP for 6 yrs. Lost 40 lbs. in 2015 and gained it back after being diagnosed with brain cancer. Had successful surgery and so far NO MORE Cancer. Now to get the weight back off. I've tried to stay at 1200 cal.and have gone back to walking in morning. How do you find out about macronutrients? I've lost about 4 lbs. I live alone so I am responsible for my food choices. I do go in spurts for salads. I have gone by the snack aisles in the store and try to stay out of the freezer section of ice cream. If I don't see it, I don't want it. I have been trying to not think about the cancer and losing weight but it is hard. Hope everyone has a good day. May we all take a moment of silence to remember ALL the people that were lost on this day back on 9-11-01. We will never forget them or that day. GOD BLESS!

Hi all,
Going to get up and get ready for Bea's arrival in a minute. I won't get the bus until 9 because that's when my free pass starts (she is free) so she will be a bit late at nursery. My son says they don't mind.
Want to wash my hair and get my face on as I might continue into town afterwards and then run home as I will have missed my exercises. Yesterday a new black and purple glitter bumbag arrived from Amazon, so I will give that a ride today!
Last night's dancing was a bit hard on the knees as we were doing double spins, followed by circles. My left knee did not approve, but I don't think there is any lasting damage. It was very hot and very fun! I was in the front row for the video, so will be on full view in all my staggering glory!
Hope to do a bit more copy and pasting today. I'm pleased with the work I did yesterday and very relieved.
Yes, Katla, it can have a larger spine than the last one, but this volume looks as if it's going to turn out much longer. I think there is a recommended limit. I'm just going to plow on for now. DH's paperbacks are larger, 9x6, than mine, but I want mine to look like a set. I'm calling it, THEREFORE I AM.
DH was very appreciative of the large plate of bolognese sauce, mashed rutabaga and carrot, green beans and side of grated parmesan that I left for him last night. His journey home was longer than usual because the motorway was shut because of a van on fire. I left instructions to microwave on 800 for four minutes. I had my sauce before I left on an enormous pile of zoodles and green beans. I was stuffed! Did not sit well with dancing!
