Allie - am VERY proud of you, well done, both for enjoying your solo day (I love them, too!) and for keeping your eating under the control you wish to have. Pleased for you...

Weird day - unsettled and oddly stressful, but without reason... Tomorrow will be better.

    Later, y'all,

Heather That's a beautiful photo of your son and family. Also wonderful mermaid on the beach.

Pip What a beautiful Tiger Lily!

    Felicia Great news! <3

Shannon I spent a lot of money on progressive lenses I couldn't adjust to. Grrrrr!!! Concerning the Magnesium, I take Mag Citrate - it's absorbed really well, & I do not get diarrhea from it.

Barbara Joe's a stubborn guy...can't imagine accepting loss of vision unless there was no other choice. I guess he doesn't want your input at his doctor's appointment. That's probably a mistake.

Vicki Does your department exercise together?

Rebecca Love the minimalist idea. My friend calls it "pup tent" living. Whatever you would take along if you had to live in a pup tent...

    Allie Well done!

Grandson copped a minor attitude today, so I just left him a list of what he needed to finish and left him to do it "on his honor". I noticed he was working on it as I left to go home.

Allie – sorry your pup is nearing the end. Amazing story about the frame!

Tracey -great pictures and what a great gift! Happy belated birthday.

    Heather – lovely family.

Felicia – good news about your husband. Isn’t it funny how we can always jump to the worst even if we have no reason to?

BananasandOranges -the payment system for adjuncts there sounds a bit strange. I found it to function differently when I was doing adjunct teaching here in the US. Good luck with whatever you decide to do. Good news on the knee. I have had cortisone shots over the years. They can be helpful and one upon occasion should not be bad. You just can’t have them frequently.

Shannon in Ontario – I have regular no-line bifocals. For computer work, I got a separate pair for the nearsighted stuff. It means I have to switch out glasses but it reduces eye strain a great deal-worth the hassle for me (and the money).

Barbara, Southern Oregon-sending positive vibes for you and Joe. My husband would have those reactions at times.

Tracyleed1-hope the MRI gives you needed answers. Lots of people on this site loose weight with no or very limited exercise. Good luck.

I would say I am caught up, but by the time I post this there will probably be more comments! Work was ok today. Going to go for a walk to the store to pick up a couple of things, then come back and tidy up the kitchen and take out the trash. Earlier bed time for me tonight (stayed up watching football game). Only work half-day tomorrow then go to OSU to meet with endocrinologist. Part of my regular 6 month check up. Not expecting anything different. Don't know if he will do neck ultrasound this visit or not since I had one in March. I just go with the flow with it.

    Take care all,

Karen in Virginia, pup tent ideals yes! I have done that in my kitchen drawers. Got rid of duplicates of things, and now have a favorite (there's only one so it has to be my favorite), spatula! 💖Rebecca

Sorry to hear about what you are going through. Have you considered any other anti-inflammatory support supplements in the meantime?

    @mfp4kc
I had never hard of anti-inflammatory support supplements. I googled and found this:
Here are 6 supplements that have been shown to reduce inflammation in studies.
Alpha-Lipoic Acid. Alpha-lipoic acid is a fatty acid made by your body. ...
Curcumin. Curcumin is a component of the spice turmeric. ...
    Fish Oil. ...
    Ginger. ...
    Resveratrol.(red wine) ...
    Spirulina.
Is that what you mean? I take spirulina when I remember (variable) and I eat fish when I have the occasion, often fatty. I could up ginger. I saw olive oil is anti-inflammatory and I use that some. I eat almonds.i don't eat much leafy greens, though a little. tea, coffee, if I drink alcohol it's almost always red wine

@auntibk I think you are right.i will at least see if I find one who is good and reasonably priced who feels a better fit. hugs for your husband's health care and reasonableness

@ginnytez thanks ginny what was the adjuct system in the usa? I thought it used to be hourly pay no security no benefits and someone told me it's better than it used to be and now the new "low" is "visiting professor" which they now hire year after year after year

    Ladies!

Many of you watched the "Broken Brain" docu-series last year, which was about nutrition and other factors in keeping our brains healthy. As I recall, it was an introduction to intermittent fasting for many of us.

There's a new one out by Dr. Perlmutter called "Alzheimer's - The Science of Prevention" airing for free in October.
It has some of the same presenters featured in the Broken Brain.

    Here's the sign-up link (hope it works) : https://scienceofprevention.com

I intend to watch it. Here's why....

1.) I always find this stuff interesting, my mom and her dad had dementia in their later years.
2.) I need a kick in the pants, self booting hasn't helped, lol.

    Just an FYI.... <3

Lanette - I just registered for the docu-series, my Dad’s side of the family is full of Alzheimer’s and now my Mom has it too.

Pip - I love tiger lilies. My Grandmother had a lot of them.

Went in the pool (what else) and then strung some popcorn. I’m almost done, I figure little by little I’ll get it done. It’s supposed to get cooler and I want to do some things outdoors with Vince so the stringing might have to wait some. The pool water is 86

Viv – congrats on all fronts, logging and the couch to 5K. Do you do that couch to 5K indoors or outside? How do you get started?

Welcome everyone new (that means you Julie and tracylee and suzyq)

I remember when we had to have one of our cats put down. I’ll swear on a stack of bibles that he looked at me right before the injection as if to say “it’s OK”

Felicia – great for your husband (and you)

Barbara – good vibes being sent to Joe. I don’t think I would mind doing the electric slide on land, but it gets boring in the water. I, too, don’t think you could do grapevines

I have been looking high and low for a diamond dotz that is at least 12x16 (the picture). Everything that I’ve gotten is 14x16 (that’s an OK size) only that’s for the canvas, not the picture. I need the PICTURE to be at least 12x16. I’m getting so very frustrated. One seller on Amazon assured me that the canvas size was 40x45. But that’s not what I get when I measure it and Amazon won’t let me order a larger size for this picture. AHHHHH

Margaret – when you said “outside mail box” did you mean outside your home?

Allie – what a find! Isn’t it weird how things work out sometimes? It’s as if that frame was meant for you

Had Rummikub tonight. I don’t think I’m going to be happy with myself tomorrow. One lady brought cheese and don’t get me near cheese…it’ll be gone. Another lady brought these mini-sandwiches and I had 3. Admitted, they were small. But still. I did only have a small bite of the dessert because it had coffee in it and I don’t care for coffee at all.

I like this group! I lost 30 lbs on here and gained it all back. Need to start over! Tried the 21 day diet and lost 10 pounds. Gained that back too. I'm weak when it comes to other people eating around me and passing chips to me, eating desserts, drinking, etc. I need will power! That's how I did it before. I learned to say no!

Here's how I did it before. I tracked EVERY calorie. I cut back my nightly glass of wine to just 4 oz. and measured it! I exercised every day - something. If I was running behind I would vaccuum, clean, play pingpong with the kids or something to get the calories burned. It's not hard, this stuff. It's just a matter of commitment. Help me! lol

:) Somebody asked me about bluetooth headphones. I got mime from amazon and they are no longer available. I know that when I got them two years ago, I looked at lots of choices before I decided. The range of prices is huge and I read about each one and was finally able to settle on a set that was about 60 dollars. I use them for a few hours every day.

:) Welcome to everyone who just posted for the first time. Please come back even if no one responded to you individually. I am so glad to hear new voices share what works.

Every time I read about medical bills and insurance in the States I become more and more grateful that I live in Canada. Our healthcare is not perfect and there can be long waits but we don’t go bankrupt trying to get medical care.

Australia too. We have to pay a bit more for stuff here than I did in Canada but it's not too bad. For example, the three MRIs I had earlier this year (two for my brain cyst and one for my hip) cost me about $175 each here but would have been free in Canada.

Machka - I am at home sick yesterday and today with a cold and sinus congestion. I did try to go to work yesterday but was sent home almost immediately. This is the first job I have ever had where you are expected to stay home and get better rather than come in and power through. What a difference.

Yes! They chase people home when they're sick where I work. "What are you doing here? Go home!!" So this is my third day home but I might be able to return tomorrow, at least for a little while. The sinus pain seems to have eased off a bit and my nose isn't running like the Niagara. I slept a pretty solid 12 hours last night.

I had a wonderful surprise for my birthday Sunday night (my birthday was actually Friday). Last year for Christmas my youngest and her then fiancé bought me a family photo shoot as a gift. On March 31 we actually had the pictures taken. I received the proofs and loved them but the package to purchase them was way out of range. On Sunday my youngest showed up with a card and told me that the whole family had gotten together to buy the whole package for me. All 145 photos. I will share a couple of the pictures in a separate post. Now I have to decide what to print off!

    Happy Birthday!!

yay I got to the knee specialist and to the physio today.

the physio was mixed. good: he seemed rigorous and had me do all sorts of things to check out my knee. less good: I didn't have a great feeling from him. not creepy but I had a feeling he didn't like me or didn't think my thing was serious enough. he questioned the value of physio with him. said to check with specialist but he said he could help me strengthen muscles if necessary. I suppose he'll be fine but it's not ideal when the other's heart is not in it. could change.i might try another one.

the knee doctor was good. there was some mix up about my appointment but they took me and he seemed very rigourous and competent: examined me, looked at MRI CD. he confirmed my meniscus tear is small and is not to operate but gave me a prescription for 15 physio sessions, some anti-inflammatory medicine for a week, said I can bike and swim but go easy on walking and sports (he was a bit back and forth about that-said 1 month but was back and forth whether the past month was enough to stop sports or if I should wait another month). I guess it's swollen and inflamed. he said it should get better and I can move according to what feels ok, that I can put ice oat at night if have pain and come back in a month. if it's not better he spoke of a possible cortisone shot. a colleague went to him 2X: 1st he had a totally blocked knee w meniscus tear and needed to get operated.2nd time got an infiltration. He is 50+ and bicycles and swims lots. very active. rides over an hour round trip many days to get to work and back. He said a knee brace won't help and the physio said a knee brace will just weaken the leg muscles which are already slightly weaker on the left. the physio said I can do whatever I want except repeated squats. the knee doctor was more mixed and said I can walk but to follow what I feel.(stop if pain..)
that seems mostly good. I was happy w the knee doctor. I'll google infiltration. Anyone have any experience? I know cortisone can have some Side effects. I don't know which.

I'm glad you were able to get some help, and yes, I've been told the same thing about knee braces.

I finally got glasses. I got progressive lenses and I'm finding it difficult to adjust. The hardest adjustments are 1) working at the computer (I write and do a lot of research, so read at the computer a lot) and 2) walking...

There only seems to be a very thin margin for the "medium" progressive part which seems to be the part of the lens I need to read at the computer - so it's been very frustrating. Playing video games is also difficult, I guess because of the motion. As for the walking - especially when I'm in a store, I get dizzy. It's been interesting, to say the least. I've never really worn glasses before, so it's all new to me.

    -Shannon in rural Ontario, Canada

I'm finally onto progressive lenses. It took a while for me.

I have 2 pair of glasses.

    1) Desk glasses: These are progressives that give me a tiny bit of distance right at the very top, but the main area is roughly my computer screen distance away, and the bottom lets me see the keyboard and whatever I hold to read.

    2) Distance progressives: These are more traditional progressives with a decent distance area on top. I wear them when driving, cycling etc. I'm supposed to wear them when walking too.

And yes, with both, I experienced some seasickness if I moved my head too quickly. It takes a bit of time to get used to it.

But you might need 2 pairs if you spend a lot of time in front of a computer.

    Reinventing Rhonda - Day 17

I've been on a roller-coaster between DGD's (darling grand-daughter's) four birthday celebrations that began last Thursday and ended this evening and trying to remedy my broken car situation. Between festivities, I've been researching replacement transmissions for my broken Volvo and looking at "new" used cars to possibly replace it.

My mechanic finally found a low mileage 28k miles OME re-furbished transmission in Colorado! Hallelujah!

The car will be towed to his shop tomorrow (Wed) morning. Once that's done, I'm taking BF to hospital for out-patient TURP. Hopefully, I'll catch up on reading/responding to posts while he's in the OR and later recovering. Or,hmmmm, let's see . . . maybe I'll take a nap? :#

So, thinking about Irish Terri's “what would you like to look back on and have accomplished in the past year.” Inclining towards will and heath care power of attorney, and/or signing up and actually going to the Better Bones and Balance class. Like a cranky child, I don't WANT to do either, but know I'd feel better looking back and seeing them done. Will be sad to give up T'ai Chi class (time conflict with BB&B) love the people so much, but being guided (kicking, screaming and dragging heels and fingernails) to the more physically challenging class. Hmm.

I had to look up what Terri said! You have a knack of noticing things like this ... :)

Imagine you are at the end of the year. Think of the one thing that you would like to be able to look back at, at the end of the year, and say 'I did that!'

I am working toward a number of things ...

-- paperwork stuff like the wills etc. and I'm making some progress.
    -- uni degree.
-- learning more stuff at work.
-- exercise. This is one area I really want to increase. I used to exercise so much, but just haven't been able to.

Michele it was the mailbox outside the Post Office. At this Post Office they have drive up mail boxes where you can drop your outgoing mail. They empty these mail boxes more frequently than the ones you find on corner and in front of stores. They do not collect mail at night. It was around noon when I went to mail my letters and they were related to the business of setting up our trust so I am thankful they were not lost to this robbery. It is a federal crime to steal mail, so I hope they catch who ever did this. Unfortunately they did not publish this on the news so their will be people who thought their mail was safe and would get where it needs to be. As I said my take away is I will only use these kind of boxes if I know my mail will be picked up soon. If I have financial mail I will now only mail it in the post office itself.

We have had mail stolen in our neighborhood. Our mail box is right by our door and it come early and we usually are right there to get it. My son has a mail slot into his home. I like that even better. His home was built in the 20's.
