My dear friends, thank you. Please don't worry. I'm just not in a space where I feel I am of help right now, and choose not to bring my own subversive attitude to this incredibly positive place. It's a headspace that I seem to get to every couple years. This too shall pass. I'm here. Just not... verbal.
am with you. I feel like this every year. always thinking of Lenny (deceased husband). on Christmas Day he had a seizure and we spent the day in the hospital. come to find out on jan 5 of '95 he was HIV positive. I am better now that time has passed, but it's still there. it never goes away6 -
Hello everyone.
Since I have been MIA from the group for 10 days I will not be catching up with you all. Please do not feel it’s personal, if I left you out. I have been skimming through everyone’s days and am glad to see most are doing well. Hugs to those you are not and welcome to those who have found this great group of women.
There are quite a few reasons why I have not been posting. Most are listed in my rant (spoiler). There really isn't a need to read - I just need somewhere to get it all out.
Heather – Your treat of bread and peanut butter is one of my favorites. I actually have meals of peanut butter and vegetables. I love it on celery and carrots. Happy to hear you’re writing. I love spring too. There isn’t much of one here in South Florida and I find myself wishing to see the crocuses fighting through the patches of snow. Oh, the Christmas challenges. Years ago my group of friends decided instead of buying for everyone we would put everyone’s name in a hat and draw out a name. We still had a great time, everyone got something, and we didn’t wreck our budgets. Charlie (DH) and I used to set a really low budget and we would buy something we knew the other wanted, but would never buy for themselves. It was fun trying to make sure we bought thoughtful gifts each other. We felt we would rather spend our money on experiences and enjoyed quite a few cruises and trips together which was how we celebrated our birthdays.
Marianne – I feel you. The holidays are definitely different than they were 100 years ago. I think it’s due to a combination of things. We have lived so much life so there are many more memories to sort through. I think the over marketing in the States also contributes to our feelings.
Karen – Olivia and Phoenix are two very beautiful children.
Amber – Happy belated birthday. I hope you’re feeling better. As far as the restaurants are concerned – go online and research the menus and pick what you are going to eat before going. Also, there is nothing wrong with you eating before you go and ordering something light while there. It’s about spending time with your family; not the food.
Lanette – Your story about your neighbor is a reminder to us all to be grateful for our ability to do all of the physical things that we can do not matter how grate or small.
Tina – Your celebration in Mexico sounds fun. I hope a good time was had by all and the border crossing wasn’t too bad. Last year I hosted a misfit Thanksgiving and we all had a great time.
Barbara – Oh, no power outages! I am the same when the hurricane warnings start. I go nuts trying to get all of the power-required chores done.
Katla – While I was in the AT&T store getting my phone (we both had challenges this past week) there were quite a few iPhone users experiencing the same issue. Apparently there was an iOS update last week.
NYKaren – TG Rachel was only 3 miles away from home. Hoping the repair isn’t too costly. Great food plan starting with soup.
Carol – Paula Deene recipe, oh no! I think of her as the butter lady and tend to stay away from her recipes.
Rebecca – Hope the ENT is the answer to your vertigo challenge. Congratulations on your son’s promotion. Your eldest now knows what to expect – I am sure he will pass the next go around.
Kenna – Beautiful work. You must post a pic when the scarf is finished.
Kim – I am so glad you were able to enjoy a Thanksgiving meal. It’s interesting how life seems to work out.
Karen, VA – Glad to hear your puppy is making progress, poor little man.
JanetR – Sending positive thoughts for your niece's quick recovery. Congratulations to you for the spring great grand babies on the way. Oh, I would have gone out there and touched him! What a majestic beast!
Pip – Glad to hear Yogi is on the mend and getting back to his normal self. He is such a handsome boy.
Lisa – Hugs to you.
Newbies: Ellie, CookieJones, Sparky916, Etboces Welcome! For those I missed it’s not intentional.
My awful week. It’s amazing what life can put in front of you and the self-created challenges we can put before ourselves. I had a nice, relaxing vacation planned this past week. It turned out I ended up working almost most of my vacation, my phone died, I had absolutely no funds to do anything which included getting a new phone, and ended up getting some type of bug so ended up sleeping most of Thanksgiving away.
The phone I had was a Windows-based phone. Front time-to-time it would not start up in the morning and I would find it would reset that night when the updates would come through. I get up Monday morning and have no phone. Since my team cannot fully cover for me I had to log in to work. I ended up putting out fires most of the day.
With no phone and all of my contacts on the phone I had no way to contact friends and family (note – none of my information was in the cloud). But, phone normally resets overnight so I was not worried. On Tuesday morning my phone would not turn on so now I am two days in without a phone. I decided I would go online and purchase one, my service will deliver to me and set up with no additional cost. I go online, set up the order, and guess what?! Service will not process an order without me inputting a code which can only be texted to me. How is one to receive a text with no phone? I research and my service ended receiving texts online on 10/31/19 – my luck! Remember I have no disposable income and by placing online I would not have to make a payment until my next bill. I set up a chat with my provider, they insure me they can place the order, and lo and behold I have to pay the taxes on the phone. Which would not seem like much but with phones costing $700+ nowadays I could not do. Rep cannot place the order. An hour later I receive an email stating my order is completed. I get back on the chat with provider and was told delivery would occur the next day. I was very thankful. I asked for a confirmation email. An hour later I did not receive an email so I chat again with the provider. The chat had to be escalated and I was assisted yet again. Was assured they could place the order online just like I would be able to do with payment coming out of my next bill. After another hour and a half on the third chat I found out I would still have to pay the taxes which would not be doable until my next payday (12/06).
So what is a person to do? I have no way of contacting anyone because all of my contact information is in the darn phone that will not turn on (again, I did not save anything to the cloud). I am now very frustrated because I spent almost 4 hours on chats with the provider and nothing could be done to assist me. I basically hate the provider at this point.
But, did find sometimes miracles happen. I checked the mail on Tuesday and found a reimbursement check for some dental work I had done. This is too late in the day for me to cash and run out to purchase new phone.
Fast forward to Wednesday. I cash the check, wait for the phone store to open, and guess what? There isn’t a phone in stock (well, some, but nothing I wanted). It’s off to another store where I find they have stock. I finally get a phone to discover they cannot work with my dead phone so I still have no contacts. I pray that people just start calling me. Guess what?! No one contacts me at all. So now I feel unloved too and wonder do I really have any friends (yes, feeling very sorry about myself).
Wednesday night, well Thursday morning, I awaken at approximately 12:30 am coughing with body aches and feeling miserable. I attempt to go back to sleep but it wasn’t in the cards. I turn on the TV and simply veg out. At a reasonable hour I go downstairs and start packing up old phone and accessories. I decide to try to turn it on. It starts back up! WTH?! I am happy I can now get contacts and pictures and such transferred. I contact my friend, let him know I will not be coming to Fort Lauderdale because I am not feeling well. Get stuck attempting to pull contacts out of phone and finally go to bed around 1 in the afternoon or so. Slept on and off through until Friday.
Friday I awaken and research everything online. I was able to upload contacts and pictures to my MS account and push over to my Google account (took hours, but I did it and will able to do it again). So I now officially have two backup copies of everything in the cloud and new phone contains everything.
If you have gotten this far, G bless you. Sorry about the long rant. I am back on track now and feeling emotionally healthy again. Please, please I do not need tech advice. I have learned enough this week. It has been very frustrating but in the end everything worked out. But, this was a week from H and I hope not to see another one in the near future.
I hope everyone has a beautiful day.

BnL sent us a pecan pie from Collins Street Bakery for Thanksgiving and I finished the last piece last night. Now on to better eating. I am careful enough that I have been able to stay within a 3 lb range of my normal (not best at all) weight. If I didn't love my wine, I would probably actually lose...LOL.

Lisa ... I'm gonna hug you anyways ...
NYKaren ... I've been watching the weather also as my son flies back to Nashville at 5:40 this afternoon. Ice comes in around 1am here and Nashville ... well it's raining and 63 degrees. The week WAS short! Glad Rachel's car mishap was close to home. I call that providence.
Rebecca ... Athena is just a joy!
Suzi ... I read the rant all the way through. Glad all is getting back to normal for you!
I've been reading, just not much to add. Love you all!

Hi All -- I hope you all are having nice weekends. My trip into Mexico was a bit hairy. We decided to drive because of the weather. It was raining like mad and therefore the streets through Tijuana were very flooded (as were many in San Diego). We ended up having to drive through the city and there were many rivers of water racing across the roads in many areas. Our car is pretty low to the ground, so it was kind of uncomfortable for a bit. Once we got out of the city, it was fairly easy. There were some areas where the rocks had tumbled from the hillsides, but going slow made it OK. We had a great Thanksgiving meal with good friends and lots of fantastic Mexican wines. The way back was less treacherous. The rain had stopped, water retreated, and the city bypass was open so we (figuratively) sailed home. Zero border wait. Yep, that's right absolutely ZERO time waiting at the port of entry to get back into the U.S. I have never seen that before, even as a pedestrian.

Suzi - I'm so with you on technology issues. Grrrrrr! My biggest hatred. When things go wrong it feels as if the world has come to an end.
Those of you who are down this time of year - that used to be me in the run up to every December. Deep depression.
DH has been snappy and weepy and I've been blaming his bad back, but he let it slip this morning that it is 'that time of year'. It's November when his previous partner died of breast cancer. He's always very 'labile' around now. She was only 47, had hospice at home, and I think he just couldn't cope. My private opinion is that she made some very selfish decisions, but I would not say that to him.
Today while I was out food shopping I bought a couple of gold sprayed branches. I like to hang my Norwegian, wooden, red decorations that an old friend gave me 40 years ago on some twigs. Every year I think I ought to buy more twigs and this year I have. They were cheaper than me collecting my own and buying the spray paint!
Tonight I am making a Thai curry. Mini eggplant, mini zucchini, a red pepper and large scallions, garlic. Coconut milk, some authentic thai paste, and a last minute add of salmon until it's just cooked. Yummo!
Having some nice Gewurztraminer (sp?) to go with it.

Restaurants- Eating before impossible Daughter gets so excited to be home we pack up JR leave early come home late.
She has already announced one day will be Starbucks for Brunch drinks followed by a restaurant.Spa my first ever which means Hubby will pick up JR watch him for a short period . Shopping 🛍. Dinner with hubby y Dad included with us 3 . Movie 🎥 . More shopping 🛍. Back home . That’s 1 day! When she gets her energy out wants to just be lazy with a computer think I’ll be so tired out I’ll welcome the ignoring us time lol.
Today chicken baked with light cheese on top. Banana pepper. Spinach topped with homemade spinach guacamole.Apple slices.
Unhealthy Diet Coke to take my teeth enamel off . Not every day but still I know it’s bad for me but feel like a treat.
Later at Dinner guacamole /chips ,chicken , broccoli 🥦 not sure what I’ll drink yet.
Snacks unknown probably special k with almond milk let JR eat away I’ll eat the left overs.
I’ll send out Thankyou from Daughter y us to all by call y email 📧. Her generation is not taught by schools to write letters like my Mothers generation. My generation was learning phone etiquette I was confused struggled learning to write letters ...didn’t help moms family nitt-picked every word of my letters even got them back graded (teachers but still turned me off forever on writing ✍️ cause of those heartless grammar nazis! Then they attacked Daughter decades later so she refuses to write...I understand the fear it leaves). Daughter said her Generation was taught email 📧 y social media etiquette only no phone or letters. I spent a month teaching her friends y her about telephone books y how theirs yellow pages on the internet too after teaching them the book version. Biggest struggle ever!!!

Happy Saturday, Supermodels!
Lisa - good to know you are OK! We get nervous after Gloria's demise (newbies - Gloria was a regular on here and suddenly stopped posting - we found out she'd been hit and killed by a car!)
SuziQ - glad you are back as well. Sorry for your phone woes. And Katla, yours too. I almost feel fortunate that we don't have anyone we must talk to on a regular basis. Plus, with my dicey hearing, email or texting is always preferred. I also developed an allergy to talking on the phone after working at 911 and later having to help answer phones for the county department I was working in when I retired. I swore after that, talking on the phone would be only for my convenience, lol. I may change my mind some day, but that's my story for now.
Heather - your Thai curry sounds wonderful, I never would have thought of putting salmon in it, I bet it will be delicious! Every year I struggle with should I send nieces/nephews gifts (small checks) for Christmas, as I rarely get thank you's. But then I think of the times I DO hear from them, they are generally cheery and newsy and give me a lift. I know they are super busy; I was that way too at their age. So the checks will go out in cards. I missed birthdays tho this year other than a Facebook greeting, and may keep it that way.
NYKaren - good idea getting Rachel on the road while weather is still decent. Thanks for the recommendation of "Brittany runs a Marathon" - I'll plan to watch it soon. The commercials for it looked cute. I finished with the latest season of "Shakespeare and Hathaway" and now started the latest season of "Death in Paradise". Britbox has been well worth the money for us.
Got back from my walk a little while ago. Waited until it warmed up to 20! Ran into my walking friend who was at her mailbox, said she'd be MIA for a while as she needed an additional procedure on her knee which was replaced a few months ago. She's ticked they waited for a couple weeks to get her in physical therapy. And she works for a hospital!
Also whipped up a broccoli/cauliflower crunch salad. Took one to Thanksgiving at our friends and they liked it. I still had plenty of veggies left. Quick recipe - break up broccoli and cauliflower florets, about three cups worth. I had half of each. Add a cup of red grapes, 2/3 c toasted walnuts, broken up and 1/3 to 1/2 c chopped red onion. Dressing: 1/3 to 1/2 c mayo - I use grapeseed oil Vegennaise - 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice and 1 tablespoon real maple syrup/honey. I prefer maple syrup since it doesn't get thick like cold honey does. Stir it all together. Great the second day. Stir before serving to redistribute the dressing. The actual recipe calls for double the amount of dressing but cutting back doesn't affect it IMHO.
Also started on Christmas cards yesterday. That's a first! Normally I'm doing them the second week of December, lol.
Doing some mini fasting today - will have some of my crunch salad for lunch.
Have a great weekend, ladies!

Pip: Gorgeous tree!
Terri: I use my laptop to visit here at MFP and have had no serious problems. I have “home” on my phone that provides access to the list serve. I prefer using my laptop to visit here because I can edit my work before I say something dumb. I use the phone to log calories.
Barbara: I’ll see if I can find Miracle on library2go. :flowerforyou:
SuziQ: I got the update overnight. Thanks!
We have frost this morning! It is our first frost for the season and it is gorgeous. Our hummingbirds are chowing down on sugar water. I took my miniature rosebush, still in full bloom, and tucked it under a rhododendron beside the house. I’ve done the same in years past and it seems to survive each winter. DH bought it for me at the grocery store years ago for Mother’s Day.

SuziQ: I discovered the iphone update in the middle of the night. All is well with my phone, but I didn’t get much sleep that night. I’m sure they think they’re doing us all a favor by making ios changes in the middle of the night. I would have loved to get a real night’s sleep. :grumble:
Lanette: I remember Gloria well. She was a valiant woman, raising grandsons on her own. I hope they’re doing well now.

Lanette - The Thai curry was fantastic, but a little too spicy for DH. I thought it was the best thing I've had for a while. I bought these wonderful mini zucchini and eggplants from our local Mediterranean store. I only used half the packet of curry sauce and just a few spoonfuls of coconut milk, so I will freeze the rest.
Much love to all, Heather UK xxxxxxxx3 -
Lisa, I know the feeling. I haven’t had anything to contribute lately either. I’ve been ignoring my calorie budget and my spending budget. Not good! I have too many friends with MLM gigs. I only buy stuff I “want,” but I buy way too much that I don’t really “need.”
Family drama is also draining me — Not my husband; Not my children; But my siblings. My father is also beginning a decline, I’m afraid, so I’m needing to spend more and more time with him.
I’m at a plateau on the weight. I know the problem. I just don’t have the inclination to address it right now. Maybe December will motivate me.

Gender Reveal Parties 🎈:
Poor Uncles still being made fun of. The youth of this generation is big on secret until the gender reveal.Huge deal to them. It is posted on social media so has to be perfect to a T! My poor Uncle after the pink explosion 💥 powder smoke bomb went off (turned white then pink I wasn’t there since I’m the 2nd y 3rd cousin) he asked so what the sex of the baby? Kept asking so their perfect video even at the end he was confused on what it will be. Finally someone said pink smoke it’s a girl. He said “Smokes not alive it has no sex! What’s the BABY!” Lol 😂 I get a tickle hearing it ,but they were upset awhile about it.
Don’t know about you but think their silly 🙃.
I learned about my Daughter when Dr. went in to do a checkup he said what is that ....”Ummmm “ I said. “Her V-Jay presses up against your camera thingy you may want to go up a little higher to find the head measurements.”
Lol Daughter kept following the camera thingy so only got V-Jay measurements.Well I was happy to know I had a girl! Abuser of course broke my bones when we got home punishment no doctor for days for having a girl not a boy. I was relieved it was a girl very very relieved! Was a breath they don’t fight for custody very hard for girls ,but boys that’s another story. They only fought 3yrs would have been worse for a boy. She also was suspected of having a cyst on her ovaries so was definitely a girl.
JR well Doctor ran test to see if I was pregnant 🤰 less than 5minutes later (think test spinner for a minute of that) bam answer your pregnant! Doctor said WOW never comes back that fast his Testosterone must be through the roof! Lol 😆 she said it harder to detect pregnancy with females. Told the OB later what she said he said yup true .He wrote baby boy on our files. Lol 😂 so no need for gender reveal started day 1.
I just told everyone. Not a big whoop 🙌 to me. My MIL this time had a dream I was having a boy he was sitting on steps of the house we moved to later so well called hubby while I was driving to the doctor she told everyone her dream lol. Lol 😂 no need to tell them before I knew even. Hubby had a dream too he was baptizing his son. My Cousin (blabber mouth) y a nurse who I knew forever spilled the beans all over town y to family that I just found out I was pregnant few minutes ago it was a boy! Lol that all in Day 1 of the pregnancy.
