My thoughts exactly. I'm not running but will go buy all the running stuff. Like @rheddmobile has long running socks. I have one pair and love them when it's cold out. Maybe I need more... Yeeeeaaa. Stop reading. But now I have to get more socks.5 -
I have:
2 shirts
1 pair shorts
1 hoodie
Half a dozen pairs of socks
2 pairs of trainers
So there's a lot of extra washes in our house.
I always struggle with motivation after hitting a big goal.
Storm Brendan kept me in the house Tuesday night.
Wednesday 6k, runners gut and a tightish hamstring (really lack of motivation) meant a couple of walk breaks but no big deal.
I am away from tonight until Sunday with no opportunity to run and a lot of opportunity to eat/drink badly.
So I will be down on the week by two runs and 11k (if I can be bothered to run on sunday when I get home). Not a big issue the main Jan goal is done.
Jan Goal:
1. Ttl 130km...............................62km
2. Long run10 miles...................16k ✔
3. 17 runs....................................8
4. Help someone C25K.....run 3 - 1.30-2/1 (3.1k)
5. Strength training x14.............65 -
My goals for 2020 are to stay injury free and healthy. I am also possibly going to try again for my first half marathon.
January goal is to run 50 miles.
1/2 - Scheduled for 2 miles today but GPS said 2.47 miles.
1/4 - First 4 miler in over 2 years. Only 5 hours of sleep last night due to a late hockey game and an early game today. Wasn't a pretty one but got it done.
1/6 - Got in 3 miles on the treadmill at work this morning. Coming down with a cold so it was a struggle. Left work early and slept for 4 hours. We will see how I feel tomorrow, I am scheduled for another 3 miles.
1/8 - I did 3 miles at the ice arena while J got dressed for 5:30AM hockey practice.
1/9 - 2 miles on the treadmill.
1/10 - My "long run" was an easy 4 miles in the park. It was cool and rainy so now I have a runny nose but it was worth it! Best run I've had in a while.
1/13 - 3 miles Treadmill run
1/14 - 3 miles on the path by work.
1/16 - 4 miles on the path by work after another late night of hockey with J and 5 hours of sleep.
Monthly total - 28.47 miles
Races:
March 14:
St. Malachi 2 mile and 5 mile
May 16:
Cleveland Marathon Half and 5k
June 13 - 14:
Run and Ride Cedar Point 5k and Quarter Marathon
September 20:
Cleveland Hero's Run 5 miler
December 5:
Santa Hustle Cedar Point 5k7 -
As far as running clothes go...
I am only going to list what fits me and I am actually using right now.
I have:
3 pairs of heavy long pants
3 pairs of light long pants/tights
5 pairs of capris
6 pairs of shorts
12 short sleeve shirts
2 heavy long sleeve shirts
2 light long sleeve shirts
1 pair of wind proof pants
1 light jacket
1 fleece jacket
2 pairs of wool winter socks
5 pairs of light no show socks
1 pair of road shoes that I am currently using
1 back up pair of road shoes that I haven't started using yet
1 pair of trail shoes
1 winter hat that I love and a few that are OK
2 pairs of gloves
Wow I have a lot of stuff but I need to get more wool winter socks and long sleeve shirts LOL. Winters in Cleveland, Ohio are rough. 50 degrees one day and 20 degrees the next.5 -
I have way too much gear to list.
I have several pairs of socks (probably a dozen+) divided by compression (for really long runs or after races), longish runs, and short runs.
I have a stack of leggings, capris, and shorts. Probably 5-6 of each (and a few more shorts since summer is long and hot). Plus short shorts for weight lifting, yoga etc (not running shorts). I have probably 15-20 sports bras.
I have tank tops, tshirts, and long sleeve shirts. I have holiday shirts for st patricks day, thanksgiving and christmas. I have jackets and a vest. Most of the tshirts and a few tank tops are from races.
I have about a million hats. Gloves, mittens, several buffs and sleeves. Two hydration packs.
Three pair of road shoes, two pair of trail shoes.
I'm probably missing something. I didn't even include my hiking gear LOL
Oh ETA sunglasses. I have 4 or 5 pair just for running4 -
Advice needed for an overanxious very slow runner, who needs to balance the benefits of running and other exercise for my mental health, and how to get back to it after been ill for several weeks. My usual runs are a couple of times a week, 2-3 miles, about 12 minute miles - slow as I said. My last run was 27th Dec, when I noticed I was quite wheezy. I had a cough and generally tired, with tight chest finally going to GP on 8th Jan. I am now on my second round of antibiotics, steroids and have been given an inhaler. I don’t normally have but this infection has really triggered a wheeze which is hanging around, I finish the drugs tomorrow. I feel a little better, but by no means ready to start running yet but I am trying to convince myself I will get back out eventually. I am still struggling to keep up with my daughter on the school run. I am very fed up. Can I anyone give any advice on starting running again? I had pneumonia about 6 years ago, and it took a long time to get back, and th breathing issues messed with my anxiety. Fortunately at that time I had a very lovely and patient running partner who helped me with pacing, and not panicking when it was bad. I used an inhaler for a few months after that. This time I am on my own. I have entered my second half marathon in May, my only aim was to go a bit quicker than last year (3 hours so not a big aim), but not sure if it’s worth it.7

maybe start with some easy intervals @samthepanda and enjoy the slow pace?4

My mom's surgery on Tuesday went well. She had a really big stone blocking her bile duct but they got it out and she is home recovering now. Thanks for your well wishes @avidkeo, @quilteryoyo and @LoveyChar. I did manage to get my runs in this week and even posted a quick update on Tuesday but yesterday I was just wiped out and didn't post my run. I did run yesterday though and got 6.2 miles done. It wasn't a bad run, but I was tired and it really showed. But the weather was nice. It was humid but enough of a breeze that it wasn't too bad. Today it was supposed to rain all day, but when I got up the rain hadn't moved in yet so I got another 6.2 mile run in. It was a lot better today after a good night's sleep. Yesterday was nice but felt like a bit of a struggle. Today was just nice, but it was colder than I expected with a pretty brisk north wind blowing. Texas weather is so weird. Last Friday it was 77°F and Saturday morning we had about 5 inches of snow. Then Sunday it was back in the high 50's to 60's. Yesterday I ran in shorts and a tank top, but today I needed gloves and sleeves.
I'm over halfway to my goal for the month and I feel like I'm on track. My feet are feeling kind of achy though and when I looked my shoes are at 451 miles. Usually I can only get 300-350 before my feet start hurting so I guess these shoes have had a good run so to speak, but it is time to start shopping for a new pair. I hope everyone is having a great week. I did read through the thread. It sounds like there were some good races this weekend. Congrats to all. And welcome to the new group members.
@sammydee2015 There are a few Runner 5's in this group. I play Zombies Run often but have never done any of the virtual races. I just finished the latest "new adventure" and I thought it was really good. I don't really like the new adventures as much as the main storyline, but I did like this one, Rule Britannia, I liked the Dystopia Rising one too. That might have been because I have played Distopia rising in real life though. I'm really ready for Season 9 to be released.
2020 races:
5/16/20: Run for 57th AHC Half Marathon9 -
I can't even begin to figure out how much running stuff I have. It's a sickness!
My mom and brother are both runners too and they're so minimalist with their stuff. It's an admirable trait, but I still can't help getting new stuff if I think it's cute or has nifty pockets or (insert reason here).9 -

Hello all..
After the hilly 8k last weekend, I decided, despite not liking it, I need more hill work (who actually likes hills? lol), So today I did hill repeats. Ran about 1.5 first, then found a hill about - not hard to do in Raleigh, ha. Did about 6 repeats, then ran home. Felt pretty good. Might have to keep this in weekly workout for a bit.
On track for mileage goal for this month, so so far so good. Friday is usually rest day, and long run Sat. But I'll probably run tomorrow as we are going to Asheville to visit the Biltmore House (also have the Dowton Abbey exhibit - so excited!) on Sat, and not sure I'll be able to run this weekend - may get a hike in though.
Also have to really sit down and plan and register for the 5K, 10K 10 Mile and HM I still would like to do this year. Just you know fees. It sure adds up. And many of the HM I have been looking at are around $100 or more. Sigh.
Gear -
2 long fleece tights
4 capri length
6 sports bras
10 pair socks
3 running shorts
2 "bike" style running shorts
2 long sleeve tech shirts
4 cold weather long sleeve
2 pair shoes in rotation
1 cold weather vest
1 running hoodie
Gloves, hat
Flipbelt
running belt with water bottles for long runs
I think that's it - but I could always use more

@kgirlhart Glad your mom's surgery went ok!1

Ditto. Don't put any pressure on yourself, and try to just go out and enjoy it!4 -
@kgirlhart glad to hear your mum is doing better, and you were still getting your runs in. Hoping for a quick recovery.
Up early this morning, I have an early shift today. 4.5k brings my total to 79.6k. My goal for the month was 80k. Ummmm ok going to go for 140 now.
I made a resolution on the 21st December to run a minim of 2k everyday for a month. Today is day 28 and I'm feeling surprisingly good. I just take each day as it comes. If ai don't feel like doing much, I just do 2k. I'm finding I WANT to increase my distance though, so trying to balance that out haha.

@samthepanda I was wondering where you had been. I'm glad you are feeling some better. I'd start back with walking. When you can walk at a decent pace, then add in 30 sec or so of running here and there. When you feel like it, add in more running. Just don't push yourself to the point that you get worse. You're body needs to heal. (I am not a doctor. So take this advice for what it is worth. )
@kgirlhart I'm glad your mom is doing okay and they were able to get the stone out. That must have been really painful for her. Good for you for getting your runs in too! I usually let those types of life happenings to get me off track. Good luck shoe shopping.3 -

That is the plan I did when coming back from my broken leg this past year. It worked well. I repeated or moved up intervals when needed. I had to repeat a few early on but moved up quickly after the first 2ish weeks.5 -

Thank you for that feedback! It seemed to be a reasonable plan. It feels somewhat like I’m starting from scratch. I’m thinking I’ll need to repeat some runs too. I’m a little sore from yesterday. Not pain, just sore. So I’ll probably add an extra rest day and/or repeat last nights interval next time.1 -
Today was a walk/XT day, so I did a treadmill walk. The temperature was nice out, but there was a cold wind blowing and I just wasn't feeling it.
Forty two miles already. We'll see how next week goes when I'm busy or working every day. It sure is easier to find the time to exercise when I'm home all day!7 -

Wooo hooo well done!0 -
Haven’t run since Sunday because of the shoulder thing and then our little dog (not Buzz the malamute) got sick and had to be put down yesterday.
It was also the anniversary of my mom’s death. Horrible,
Horrible,
Horrible day all around.
Today was long. Work, life group, home, moped around.
*sigh*18 -
I’m finally having a summer holiday - have taken the children to my sister’s bach (what we call holiday houses) for three nights and then on Wednesday we head up to East Cspe for a week. I’ve had two runs here in the island - it’s been sunny but cool so lovely running weather. It’s a hilly wee place so have been getting g a good workout. The shortage of roads also means I get a choice of either a 700 metre loop or a 9km loop. Guess which I opted for.
As for gear, I didn’t think I had that much as I tend to go for quality over quantity, however, as I also do a lot of yoga, I have other gear which I sometimes use for running - like singlets, which I prefer not to run in because of sunburn but which I will wear if it’s early or late in the day and stinking hot.
3x shorts (just tossed two other pairs, need one more)
1x capris
1x winter leggings
4x t-shirts (plus freebies which I rarely wear but have them in my drawer in case of emergency)
4x bras
1x merino long sleeve base layer
1x jacket
5x socks
1x gloves
5x tech caps (4 of which were Auckland marathon race swag but they’re awesome)
5x shoes - 3 short distance or race shoes, one long training run, one trail.6 -
Gone for a few days and I am now 5 pages behind. No running this trip but we did get in a wonderful hike from our hotel thru the Monterey pine forest and down narrow single track to the ocean bluff trail. Saw several runners in the forest and really wanted to join them but wasn't dressed to run and didn't want to ditch my friends. Our friends just rescued a new puppy. This is Molly and she is only 18mos old
She and Hobbes had so much fun playing!
Forest view. I was trying to get the 2 deer that were there just an instant before I took the picture
View to the ocean
On the bluff boardwalk
Exposure on this isn't great because it was taken looking into the sun but the water and flowers were beautiful!
Now on to catch up on posts!8 -

@samthepanda As others have said, when you're feeling better, start with walking and throw in a few run intervals. C25K can help give you structure and goals to work towards, but it's ok to take it slow! Just getting out there is helping you move forward (literally and figuratively) in your fitness.5
-
@AlphaHowls I hope you are feeling better!
@samthepanda I agree with everyone else with starting slow, walking mostly and adding in running a little at a time. Once you are feeling well, you’ll be able to do more and more.
I have been so stressed out lately with work. I am several staff short, meaning I have taken on more work, and some of my staff are grating on my nerves. I have been working late and going to bed early because I am so exhausted. So, I forced myself to get up earlier this morning to get in a short 2 miler. Hopefully, it will help my mood today, and I figure I might be willing to come home tired and still run if I only have 2 miles left in the evening instead of 4. Gotta do what I gotta do.
I am interviewing someone today, so cross fingers that he is competent so I can hopefully hire him! 😂
1/1: 3.12 mile run, 1 mile walk, strength training
1/2: strength training
1/3: strength training
1/5: 5.04 mile run, 1 hour spin class

1:7: Pump
1/10: 1 mile, rowing
1/11: 3.25 miles
1/12: 17 miles
1/13: 1 mile, rowing, weights
1/14: Pump
1/17: 2 miles

Went to the running clinic last night, no physios, lots of advice - "eat this, stretch that, wear orange, flap your arms like a duck, buy a garmin, it will all definitely make your back better". The one thing every agreed on was yoga and pilates, even random strangers in the railway station were telling me that so once I am back from my weekend away I will sit and watch a pilates video, not saying I'm going to do any of it but I will relax with a glass of wine for sure!
