Morning, afternoon and evening, all...
Watching the news on the fires in Oz - crazy days indeed. Thinking about you Machka. Didn't we have another Ozzian show up for a bit? If you're still around, check in. We worry.
Karen in VA, my hope, too, for a peaceful transition for Bailey.
Carol - Your grandson has beautiful eyes, and is going to be a very handsome man. Thinking of you and your Pom this morning, too. Hope changing his diet and feeding routines has him more comfortable.
Egg's latest:On the furbaby side, Egg has taken to sleeping in the bathroom, and gets quite annoyed when you walk in and turn on the light. You get a grumpy mew, and she covers her eyes. It's also a grey cat on a grey rug on silver-ish flooring, so an oddly calming picture for me:
Busy day, have to go into the office and print 8 copies of a 50-page grant early this afternoon, and then stick around for a mandated, 3-hour teambuilding exercise built around playing board games with the C-suite types. I try not to play games with other people, especially people who sign my paycheck, as I am a rabid competitor. It's not my most pleasant trait.
Oh, and on the weight loss, bounced back up a half pound, but I did have a slip last night for the first time. We'll see if it works again if I hold onto the IF times.
Off to the races, kids,
Love y'all,
Lisa in AR4 -
Hove seafront yesterday. I am about to go for my 5k run and I hope the pebbles aren't covering the whole promenade.

Good morning Ladies!
Karen in VA -- ((((HUGS))) Looking back, it's remarkable how well Bailey did with the CBD. Those puppy pix of him are so sweet. Are you down to just one pupster now?
Machka - I am sending prayers and directing the universe to send cool moist air over Australia and have it settle there. Hard to breathe in that stuff.
OK, now I'm curious about this walk score rating and need to check it out. Thanks for mentioning, ladies!
Barbie - Happy Anniversary to you and Jake! Sounds like it truly was the perfect day for you two.
Kelly - "Mimi" sounds great. Love that Lauren is speaking to the boys in French. Remind me, aren't they also learning Spanish as well? Oui? Si?
Amber - cute photo of JR in the tub!
Katla - I've seen that bowl cleaner advertised and will check into it further. Strangely, it's just our newer toilet that collects stains - I'm wondering if the porcelain coating isn't as thick or somehow has a surface where the water doesn't sheet off adequately. I miss Grandma's outhouse. Seriously.
Carol - what a neat haircut and cute photo of your grandson. Grown up haircut and a sucker in his mouth. Future heart-breaker.
Lisa - so glad to be retired and not have to participate in "team building", . Any meeting or gathering more than 15 minutes is 10 minutes too long in my book, lol. Have fun!
Re IF, I found myself eating my last meal earlier and earlier each afternoon, by 3:30) resulting in some indigestion and not sleeping well plus having to get up several times to pee! I thought what the hay yesterday afternoon and grabbed a handful of triscuits, a few oreos and a biscotti. Finished eating them by 6, stomach settled and slept better than a baby (no peeing) for the first time in a week. Not hungry at all this morning yet. So am re-evaluating my schedule.
Tracey - Hope your heating system keeps going without a glitch. Looks like you are keeping that arctic blast on your side of the Cascades and not sharing it with us over here in SW WA. After yesterday, snow seems to have fizzled out too. Maybe Barbie and Sue will get some more?
Just read an interesting article, something I'd put on the list for "Advice I wish I could have given to my younger self." The article is called "The Forgotten Art of Squatting" and tells about how our culture's preference for sitting and rarely squatting goes against how our bodies were designed for elimination and childbirth. Probably contributes to balance problems as well.
OK, time to move it. Make it a terrific day, ladies. We're halfway there.

Weight up y up again . Ugghh when your eating healthy food the next morning the numbers are up. Maybe too much sodium 🧂? Or the extra calories cause I ate a BeVita cookie.

Barbie ~ Happy Anniversary!
Kim ~ I felt tired reading about all your rose and tree pruning. I looked up the fish stew and I bet it was delish!
Karen in VA ~ My heart breaks for you! So, so sorry for your loss. Bailey was a beautiful little boy. Our Pom is hanging in there and your advice to feed tiny bits every few hours seems to be helping.
Lisa ~ The photo of egg covering her eyes is endearing.
Heather ~ Your photo of the sea front is a bit scary.
Flea ~ Your mention of your MnL's car is interesting. My BnL is in assisted living and paying almost $4,000/yr in insurance for his jeep that is over 20 yrs old. It won't start (is parked at his home) and has not been driven in over a year. He will never let it go!
Carol in GA4 -
We had snow all evening and overnight. My garden clogs were a bad choice in footwear when I walked the dogs at midnight. This morning I wore my New Balance boots and my feet were much happier. It will be a beautiful walk after breakfast. I will stay in the moment and not think about how rising and falling temperatures will result in icy roads tomorrow.
Karen in VA,so sorry about Bailey. Our fur babies are never with us long enough.
The way my life is today, it is more important that my neighborhood be walk friendly for dogs. Neighborhoods in my town that are good for walking to stores, etc, are terrible for walking dogs.

Hi! I am Virginia, I am 51 knocking on the door of 52. I started my weightloss journey on January 20 2019, I was soaring around 270, with the help of MFP and a lot of self talk (not always kind or polite) I am at 195. I follow a high protien, low calorie/carb food plan (mostly) I have a ways yet to go and I am finding it a little difficult to remain motivated, so after reading several boards, I thought maybe the personalities on this one may just do the trick! My resolution for this year is to be patient with and kind to myself a little more often, and to find the humor in life's little oops'.
Looking forward to seeing what comes!

Welcome Virginia!! You have done so well!
It's probably about time you rewarded yourself with some great clothes or something to remind you of how far you have come.
This was the sea front today, covered in pebbles. I managed to find a path through and did my 5k. The i360 was not flying. Lots of cuttlefish bones everywhere. I thought how much KJs kids would have enjoyed finding them.
That's DH in the photo looking at his feet. The building on the left is the swimming pool and I am ashamed to say that I have never visited it. I love swimming, but I hate getting in and out.
Much love to all, Heather UK XXXXXX5 -

Heather: You have been blessed. I envy those who can sing on key. I lack that ability. There are a few songs I can manage, but not many. :ohwell:
Rebecca: Your DGD is a charmer!!
Barbie: Happy Anniversary!!! I can drive with this license until I’m 78, too. I don’t know whether I go in for another or have a driving test at that time. I expect I’ll eventually find out.
Machka: I wonder when your air will get a nice washing from rain. I hope it comes along soon.
Kim: Your fish stew sounds wonderful. We used to see the Hairy Bikers when we had Comcast, but we switched to AT&T and they don’t carry that show. I’m happy with so many things with satellite TV that I don’t mind missing the Hairy Bikers. They used loads of cream and butter if I remember right and those two ingredients are off of my island. I’m lactose intolerant. :ohwell:
Michele: I made a quilted Christmas Tree skirt back in the days when we went to a Christmas Tree farm & brought home a freshy cut tree. Now I have live Alberta Spruce trees that are growing in pots. I bought a second one for this past Christmas because DH can’t help with the lifting as he once did, and the first tree is in a heavier pot than I wanted to lift on my own. Many of the neighbors use artificial trees and some of them look good.
(((Karen in VA))): Saying goodbye to a loved pet is very hard.
Barbara: I’ll have to check with my DMV about the compliance of my driver’s license in the long run. I think it will meet the criteria, but I don’t know for sure. We had a choice between traditional and high tech, and chose to pay extra for the high tech. I think it qualifies as real ID, but I’ll drop into DMV and verify. It worked just fine for my trip to see my daughter last fall.
Yoga today! YAY!! I’m looking forward to it. I went to DH’s chair yoga with him yesterday and enjoyed myself, but I don’t want to miss my own class today.

RITA! You've got this, don't forget to drink water and get in your steps as best you can. Every little step counts!

Katla - I'm guessing the fish stew was from one of their diet books. There are three of them I think. I have the first one. I use about three of those recipes regularly.
Just recently I have been on a roll with my cooking. My dinners have been soooooo good. DH has been very happy. Tonight was Tandoori Chicken with spinach daal. I do eventually get to a point where I can't be bothered, but it's been a good run. DH has prepared stewed plums for tonight.
Tomorrow I am out for lunch with my friend who is coming over on the train. I have booked The Salt Room on the seafront and asked for a table with a good view. I've not been there before, but I think it is rather elegant, so I will scrub up. Unfortunately it will be raining, or overcast. It specializes in fish and seafood, so oysters may be in my future.

Lanette- Yes, the boys are hearing both French and Spanish at home (son in law is fluent in Spanish) and when Abuela Maria comes to visit she speaks only Spanish; so Lauren is learning more Spanish as well. Joaquin hears and speaks english at daycare. Joaquin understands and responds in whatever language is spoken to him, of the three (French, Spanish, English). But if he is just talking or initiating the conversation, it tends to come out a mix of english and french. He is a bit delayed in his speech (about six months behind); but his brain is processing three languages. Since Lauren took his pacifier away from him, the words are coming MUCH quicker now.
Heather- That beach (pebble strewn walkway) looks like the perfect place to take my kids for a walk. You are absolutely correct in assuming fish bones would be a "treasure"!
Rita- Hop back on the wagon! You've got this- and we've got you!

Happy National Hat Day!
"Hats are used to make a statement, or to promote a cause or a product. Back in 1797, the introduction of the Top Hat almost caused a riot. The top hat was first worn by James Heatherington in London England. As Heatherington strolled through the streets of London, England displaying his Top Hat, crowds gathered, some people began to push and shove. Heatherington was fined for 'going about in a manner that frightened timid people.' ... National Hat Day is not intended to just keep your noggin warm. It's a chance to make a statement and to display your favorite headgear. We suggest you wear a number of different hats over the course of the day."
Kim - I know what you mean about too much to do! There are a ton of things I'd rather be doing, but I'm nowhere near able to retire so for now the paying gig gets most of my time.
Machka - Thanks for sharing the Walk Score links! As we look at where to retire (someday!), walkability will be important and the town we live in right now is not friendly for any walkers, let alone elderly ones.
Karen - I am so sorry you had to say goodbye to your sweet Bailey. I know how heartbreaking that is.
Kelly - Back when it was the Republic of Texas, our southern border with Mexico was still the Rio Grande but the northern borders encompassed parts of what is now New Mexico, Oklahoma, Kansas, Colorado, and Wyoming in accordance with an old treaty between the U.S. and Spain. After the Texas Revoluation in 1836, Mexico signed the Treaties of Velasco which recognized Texas as an independent nation and called for the withdrawal of Mexican troops to south of the Rio Grande to the new nation. That treaty was never ratified and Mexico continued to claim the area between the Rio Grande and Nueces Rivers until Mexico and the U.S. signed the Treaty of Guadalupe in 1848.
Lanette - I'll bet you're right about squatting and balance problems. I've seen photos of very elderly Chinese people squatting in place as opposed to sitting. If I tried that I'd need a hoist to get up again!
So we are really lucky here in Texas that our state was actually ahead of the curve (for once) when it came to Real ID. The transition happened relatively seamlessly and we've had compliant drivers licenses for several years.
I love hats, and have a pretty big collection that I need to edit down due to lack of closet space. Maybe I'll get one out to take with us to the beach!

DH has five rather nice hats that he keeps on a table in the hall. One pork pie, one panama, one fedora, and two 'peaky blinder' flat caps, one in blue tweed and one black. I only ever wear a beanie. Mine is felted wool with big applique spots on it. In the summer I wear sun hats, including my clever Chinese folding one that DH hates. I also have a large brimmed baseball cap for running in when it's super hot and sunny. I don't like sun on my face. Big, big, sunglasses.
