Same weight as yesterday. Found out JR thinks Grover from Seasame Street is a bad kitty cat. Meow 😸. Rather him think that than fear monsters lol.
Thinking a few of JRs pants are getting tiny again. Not sure tho I still have the bigger sz 5’s mixed in with the 6’s he may be outgrowing some of them.
Still looking for a paper showing milestones for 3yr olds that’s accurate (I may be looking for 20yrs ago’s not bows in my mind I have no clue what they consider it to be now). JRs computer skills are getting better so new device for him to learn. Their era is technology like Daughters (nothing like ours where phones were strapped to walls). Cousin bought him wood blocks so we can catch up on those skills the LEGO blocks he was limited. Learning 1-20 now so hopefully he catches on fast so we can tackle more.
He still recognizes letters by name so doing good. Got no clue what toys are his age group so sticking with basics for his birthday to come. Cars to a map 🗺 you push buttons tells you facts. Too hard finding stuff his size range so sticking to things any size can play with.Had enough headache for Christmas. Doctor office measured him wrong so according to them he shrunk since they measured him last lol 😂...his feet were spread apart nurse was in a hurry . I like accurate only for JR but oh well they just don’t do it like they used to at all. I remember chest to back measurements even now guesstimate head, height, weight only y go. Of course the old way took more time but caught things faster. Reading kid articles just confusing me anymore it’s all about neutral toys y clothes to unisex all. I just want to know if sons on the mark with other boys his age group not what neutral colors Hollywood likes today.

I took 6ish years of French in high school and university. However, being from smack in the middle of the country, there weren’t people to converse with regularly and I didn’t travel internationally until I was in my 30s. I have a French friend now and I can pick things up, but being fluent is just not gonna happen now.
I took about a year or more worth of German classes at a community college when I started dating the Mister. He is German and we were visiting Germany about every other year. When his mother passed, I spent a month in Germany and immersion helped a lot. However, we don’t speak German at home (he’s fully integrated into the US now) and I don’t go back to Germany as often as I used to. Plus, all his friends want to speak English when we visit. They make it too easy for me.
Now, I live in Southern California where I can walk out the door right now and converse in Spanish with the charity pickup guys, if I want to. We also started going to Spanish speaking countries more these days, since the mister isn’t feeling it necessary to visit his family so often in Europe. Hence my desire to speak Spanish, at least conversationally.
So far, I'm meeting my goal of running at least 10 miles per week. That said, it's only week 2 of the year. LOL. The mister is sick, so I am hoping he doesn't gift it to me and screw up my streak.

Machka: I went to flower arranging. I did the demo last month, so helped members with their interpretations.
Languages: I have studied French, and was fairly fluent; German, which I used while chaperoning exchange students in Austria; a smattering of Italian. Currently belong to a Latin study group. French and German are a little rusty, but come back after a few days if I go on holiday.
Rori: (((Hugs))) and 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
I quite like split pea soup. DMiL made a lovely big pot every Saturday, and taught me how to make it. She said it was DH’s favourite, so when we got our own place, he got it every every Sat, until he plucked up the courage to tell me he hated it, but had never had the nerve to tell his mum!!! 😂 We rarely had it after that. His mum still made it especially for him when we would visit.

My youngest son was a freshman in high school when he finally figured out he loved bacon. So my fried rice had everything he loved, eggs, bacon, and chicken! I remember him eating 3 bowls of it, then he'd have it for breakfast the next day!

My grocery story has bags of pre-diced carrots, onions and celery in the frozen vegetable section, usually for $1.00. I keep these on hand at all times in my freezer for soup starters.

I am loving this split pea soup discussion. I made it for lunch in my IP with the stock from the Thanksgiving turkey carcass & the Christmas ham bone. Still licking my chops. Yummo!6

Good morning, all. It's been awhile. We went to Puerto Vallarta for Christmas this year -- took the 13 year old and left the two older boys to hang out with my mom for the week. I absolutely loved it. My mother and sons (all three) said that I will not be doing that again -- not over Christmas. But it was so relaxing, low-key, no-pressure. I would do that every year, if I could get away with it.
Two older boys are back in school. Middle son did not pull his grades up, so he is on some kind of warning/probation and was dropped from many of his semester classes, but he has an advising appointment today, so I am hopeful that he can get back up to 12 credits. If he doesn't do well this semester, he will be suspended. I had already removed the OSU sticker from my car, and on Monday, I took down his degree plan from the refrigerator. I am empty of all expectations. Older son is all EMT certified and moving on with classes to get the two year para medicine degree. But this term he is in more traditional college classes, which he has had very little patience for in the past. So, we will see.
I don't know if anyone remembers me venting about my mil, but she is in assisted living, chronic falling, has never taken care of herself, one fall resulted in a broken neck, refused to do physical therapy ("too hard!"), was put on hospice because basically, why not? It has been incredibly frustrating. She is the poster child for why we all should follow the "Stronger Next Year" plan. Anyway, her hospice nurse called my husband to say that he estimates that she has weeks to live. I am frustrated because I don't know why she is dying. She just is. My husband calls it "failure to thrive," but it is almost all lifestyle choices. She's not that old either, early 80s.
A few things:
Salted black licorice. A big YES!! I had it for the first time a few weeks ago when my husband brought back a small bag from Denmark/Sweden. Love it. But the thing I love the best is that it is impossible to binge on. One small piece is good enough for a couple days.
Split Pea Soup. Another big YES!! My recipe is much like what others have shared. It is my comfort food, as long as the onions aren't too sharp and it has a lot of ham (or bacon).
Rebecca -- so happy you heard from your son. What a kind and articulate writer he is. I loved the text you shared.
Karen -- so frightening about your grandson.
Allie -- could your boss have been joking? I can't believe anyone would say such a thing about docking your pay in seriousness. You do need to get out of there.
I know there is so much more to comment on, but I have lost most of what I've read over the last week.
I am trying to remain positive in a world of complete chaos. Hubby is finally starting to get serious about his own health -- his lifestyle has been very similar to his mother's lately -- very sedentary and no control over snacking -- so I am hoping that this terminal time with her will wake him up. He is the heaviest I have ever seen him. I have plateaued at the weight my body seems to like, but I am serious about getting back to where I was before my sister died.
Did anyone see the hair news about Ricki Lake? One of the things I worry about most is hair loss. I think I am okay, but I have a good friend at church who is balding quite a bit, and every time we are together, I feel panicked. If anyone wants to talk about that, I would love to, if you are comfortable. Do you have any plans for addressing it when it happens to you, if it hasn't already? I think about it way too much. I'll start another post about that.
Much love.

Female Hair Loss/Baldness:
So, like I said, I worry about this more now than I used to worry about my teeth falling out!
Here's what I'm doing and my plan:
Once a week, I use my husband's baldness shampoo. To be clear, I think it's mostly medicine show stuff, but I figure, why not? And it is good to change up your shampoo every few days anyway.
I no longer color my hair. Avoid blow drying. Rarely use a curling iron.
I comb my hair with a wide tooth, sturdy comb, and at that, usually only once or twice a day.
I will consider a high quality wig.
I have toyed with the idea of getting a buzz cut during the summer anyway, so maybe I could do that.
Slow, slow weight loss without drastically cutting out any one food group. (Ricki Lake attributes her hair loss, partially, to drastic yo-yo dieting.) Well, of course, with the exception of gluten. I am Celiac, so wheat, rye, and barley are off the menu.
Even though I am not a hat person, I will consider wearing hats or head scarves full time. (When I see the old believers or Muslim women with their head gear, I am wistful -- "They don't have to worry about this because no one will ever know when they are losing their hair.")
Louise Erdrich has a descriptive line of an older indigenous woman in her book Tracks that says basically that the woman's braids are "slowly melting off her head." I think about that a lot when I check my part, multiple times a day!
Please tell me I'm not alone here.

I love black licorice but not sure about salted licorice. I don’t care for salted chocolates so I’m not sure about salted licorice
Now to go back outside and finish taking in the Christmas decorations. After today, they should be all taken down. Next will be working on getting the indoor decorations down.
But it's supposed to be cold and rain next week so we won't feel bad working in the house.
Just got back from the Green Room

Puerto Vallarta (ish) pictures. One of the activities we did, where I actually have pictures, was a RZR tour through the jungle in the mountains above Puerto Vallarta. We also did a 9-10 hour catamaran tour, with snorkeling and whale watching, but I didn't take my phone on that trip, and my husband spent the whole time sick.
Jayson is apprehensive about going into the jungle, especially since this tour was in lieu of going further up the mountain to San Sebastian where the state department reported heavy cartel activity.
Banderas Bay (on which Puerto Vallarta sits) in the distance, with the swinging bridge that we are going to drive over in the foreground. I had a shot of tequila before we headed across. Hubby was driving.
On the bridge.
Jayson gives the experience two thumbs up -- this on the bridge and after he took a break in a stream to jump of a cliff into the water. Twice!8 -
Kim: Thank for loving me even though I dislike black licorice and split pea soup.
Rori: I hope the bone density test results are good, too. They’ll send the results to my doctor, and I’ll get them from her. My opinion/wish is that they will turn out to be good. I am so sorry that you’re juggling so many problems right now, I hope that your DH finds a friend in one of the adult day care locations near you and is wiling & happy for the social opportunities. Thanks for your good wishes on the bone scan. I’ll have to call my doctor to get the results. They wouldn’t tell me. :grumble:
Evie 1958: I’m happy that you went to the gym and hope it turns out to be a place you enjoy.
Michele: I agree that claiming you can go to any gym is disappointing when you discover it isn’t true. I do know that all gyms do not necessarily accept every insurance that is out there. I feel as though I have a choice, and so do the owners of the gym. If you’re willing to pay cash for every visit, they’ll all welcome you with open arms, but if you’re getting the gym as part of your insurance benefits they may like some companies better than others. My DSIL and her husband are using Silver Sneakers. I use a policy through my retirement system that allows me to go to a nearby gym of my choice.
Meg: I love your posts even when they are on the short side.
Annie: I have my gym locker combination on my phone so that I can use it if needed. I haven’t needed it in a while, but it is nice to have a back-up plan. That wouldn’t work out so well if I locked my phone in the locker. I can also go to the desk of the athletic club and get the combination from them. My goal is to use my own memory, every time.
I spent this morning at the Department of Motor Vehicles on an errand for my son & DDIL. They’ve just bought a new to them vehicle and need a license plate. I got it done and have already mailed the new plates to he and DDIL. they should arrive in a couple of days. Meanwhile, the vehicle has to sit until the plates arrive If I understand things correctly.

Hi Flea!
My father's mother had female pattern baldness, but as you can tell from my last post I am not big on my hair. It's nice now, if it falls out so be it. It was meant to be. I still get highlights every 3 months or so and it actually appears to grow faster afterwards. It seems healthy even though I wash it every day. I do not part it the same every day. I typically let it part where ever it wants to.
Do not use your husband's baldness shampoo. There is only one product approved for females and it's Minoxidil (Rogaine).
May I ask - are you losing your hair? If not why are you worrying? You would still be a beautiful person with or without it.

I think it is Rogaine, but I will double check when I get home.
My hair is thinner than it used to be, it seems. But when I was younger, we thinned it, routinely, because I had a lot of hair. It is a little bit of an irrational fear, like the fear I used to have about my teeth falling out, but because it does happen, and to most women, from what I've observed, as they get older, I worry.
My husband would definitely NOT find baldness in me beautiful. I would have to do something. Of that I am certain.
PS -- and I think your hair looks amazing!

I think a visit to a dermatologist would be beneficial to you and you may find some ideas/suggestions from him/her. Especially if you are not OK with it.
That said - I am tough one. If my next partner in crime did not find me beautiful no matter what was going on with me .... they would not have to worry about it as they would find their belongings out front and the locks changed. My DH spoiled me in the love and affection area......miss him all of the time.
And, thank you. It is thinner than it was in my 20s, but I rather have the wisdom and experiences I have today than my hair. I do have a great hair magician and have been going to him for almost 25 years. He is particularly good with super straight hair. This recent cut was done entirely with a razor blade - no scissors.
There is quite a bit of information online for both natural and medicinal treatments. But again, I would suggest a dermo visit. That way you would find out if it's normal thinning or not.

I take biotin for my hair and nails. My hair is long enough to tickle my elbows. It's still on the thin side but it always has been. I put henna on it every six weeks or so. My nails grow naturally long and strong with the Biotin and calcium and fish oil.
