We currently have about 8 inches of snow and still coming down. DD has missed 2 days of work this week. Choir director has already cancelled choir practice tomorrow as we are forecast to get a big storm tonight. And I moved from SD to get away from this stuff. The YM is closed today due to weather. I have been doing weights and walking in the house but not the same as water exercise. Have crockpot crack chicken going for this evening.
Rori - Happy Birthday!!!
Allie - Skip the cranberry juice and try cranberry extract capsules. No sugar or bitter taste. I do this on the recommendation of my doctor.
Everyone take care, Sue in WA3 -
Sue in Wa. Yup that's what I bought my friend1

Lanette: The product I bought for the bathrooms is Clorox Automatic Toilet Bowl Cleaner. It works well for us. We’ve been using it for several years. We also use pumice sticks for hard to dislodge stains. The brand name we bought is Pumie Scouring Stick. Since we got rid of the mineral stains we rarely need more than the automatic toilet bowl cleaner but we have both products on hand.

Sue in WA: Color me crazy, but I envy your snow. I like snow that falls, stays a day or two and disappears. I am not a fan of knee deep slush. :noway: It has been a very long time since I've needed to deal with slush.1

Did Patrick Godeau’s Hard Body Workout DVD. The plan for tomorrow is to do Jillian Michaels Burn Fat Boost Metabolism DVD.
Rebecca – great find! You can make a trip to NC…just sayin’, giving you ideas of what you can do with that money. $46 for an oil change? Did you maybe get synthetic oil?
Rori – happy birthday
For everyone in Texas: what is the oldest city in Texas?
Allie – I’m so sorry you didn’t get the job.
I was just vacuuming Jess’ room and suddenly the vacuum stopped. Seems that for some reason it blew a fuse. Vince checked, all the outlets are on one breaker and they’re GFI’s. Well, the electrician who they used when they built this house screwed up. When we had the inspection done on the house, the inspector said that we needed a GFI in the kitchen. The electrician swore there was one. Nope….so they had to install one.
I guess I’m getting critical now. I do wish that I had a steadier hand when I’m doing the black outlining on my ceramics. I can seem to do any other color, but black I have a hard time with. Oh well….
Vince isn’t going to go shooting tonight so I said to him “you’ll probably never hear this from me again, but would you go out to get something to eat? I planned that you would eat out after shooting so I don’t have anything made. If you bring back something from a fast food place, that’s OK, I won’t be tempted”. He just laughed. Right now I’m on the clear liquids, I need to drink 8oz an hour until midnight. The biggest problem I’m finding is that I need to set the alarm for when an hour is up. Then tomorrow after 6 I am to have 2 liters (I think this is about 64oz) of that “stuff” and then 6 hours before the procedure have the other 2 liters. I can’t have anything at all (I’m surprised that even includes water) for 2 hours before the procedure. Update: he said “it’s a toss up between Chick-Fil-A and Five Guys”. My response was “Five Guys sounds worse to me”. I bet he goes to Five Guys!

Rebecca: Where do you expect to find warmer weather in January? Are you thinking of Las Vegas? Arizona? New Mexico? I heard that we all have to have passports to go on any jet, anywhere. I hope I’m mistaken. :grumble:
Viv UK: I haven’t heard of a house call from any doctor other than a blood relative. :noway: My uncle was a doctor who made house calls to family members on rare occasions. In our town, paramedics from the fire department come in an emergency. They will provide first aid and/or a ride to the hospital if needed. The nearest hospital to us is about 30 miles away.
Rori: Happy Birthday!!!!!
Pip: Your snowy yard is beautiful! Your bruises look painful. Ouch! :flowerforyou:
Barbara: It is wet here, too. I don’t see a drought forecast in our near future. :noway:
Carol: Your grandson is a handsome boy. Thanks for the photo.
DH is still lingering in bed as I visit with you and have morning coffee. I have a city meeting this evening. I studied my packet last night and will give it another look today.

I was googling warm places. Thailand is 89! Naples is 47' Maui, ( Ford Island) where the Navy Lodge is was 70's overcast. I'm just passing the time until this winter passes!👍👍😋😋

We have military id we don't need the special ids2 -
Haahaa I don't know WHAT kind of oil we got!
And this morning we had a flat tire. Must've hit something driving back to the island!
When snow clears, we'll take the tire to get patched. We do not have a spare tire. Just the dang goop kit!
Foot play!

Today is our anniversary so we celebrated by going together to get our hair cut. We had planned to go to lunch at our favorite restaurant in town but found that it was closed for lunch. We went to our second favorite and found that it was closed because of the snow, so we went to the place with good pizza and got a pizza with a zillion veggies and brought it home and ate it while watching "Jeopardy". We have a perfect life together and the best anniversary celebration is just being together.
We both have passports so we didn't bother to get the enhanced drivers' license the last time we renewed. I am excited to possess a drivers' license that says I can legally drive until I'm 78 years old.

Happy International Kite Day!
"It is believed that kites came from Shangdong, an eastern province of China; they were spread to India by traders, who brought them to Korea, and then across Asia. Different styles of kites, as well as different cultural purposes for flying them, came about in different locations. ... In 1295 CE, European explorer Marco Polo documented kites and how to fly them. By the sixteenth century, books and literature had publicized kites as children's toys, which helped them gain in popularity. ... In 1749 Scottish meteorologist Alexander Wilson measured air temperature at 3,000 feet with a thermometer attached to a kite. Benjamin Franklin used a kite to prove lightning is electricity in 1752. The Wright brothers used kites for research when they were building the first airplane in the late 1800s. ... Starting in the 1950s, NASA began using kites for spaceship recovery. Over the years kites have also been used for surveillance during war. The American Kitefliers Association was formed in 1964."
Flea - Your mother-in-law's insistence on keeping the car reminded me of my grandmother. She kept her car serviced and insured long after she had to stop driving due to macular degeneration, "in case I need someone to drive me somewhere." Most of us are more comfortable driving our own vehicles but I think it made her feel less obliged to other people if they used her car.
Michele - Love the squirrel. He's got such a cute expression on his face!
Pip - That is one heck of a bruise. Ouch!
Katla - I envy all the snow too! It's one of the things I miss the most from our year in the mountains of New Mexico. I never got tired of it.
Philip and I got our workout in this afternoon, sat and rested awhile, then braved the pollen to pack up some more boxes in the garage. It's a giant pain but I just remind myself how happy we'll be when the new garage is finished and we have a decent work space!
Today I got motivated and looked up gyms for our upcoming trips. We'll probably miss a few workouts but it's less likely if we have some options in advance. And of course we'll be a lot more active... in fact, any day we go crosscountry skiing on the Colorado trip I won't feel the need to go to a gym for more exercise!

Carol in GA -your grandson’s eyes are beautiful! Good looking young man.
Sh0tzz99 – I got the new driver’s license in Ohio in fall 2018. It has the black star (cutout) and the pic of the shape of the state is gold. It’s the real id.
Allie-sorry to hear about the job. But with your trip, that may be for the best. Your trip sounds wonderful
Pip-I bruise easily, but yours remind me of bruising I had after hip replacements! It is amazing the colors they can turn, how long it takes them all to surface, and how much they can hurt.
Getting a bit colder here. Sharp wind today. Still supposed to be close to 50 tomorrow and then cool down. No real snow to mention. Just strange weather this year.
Was proud that when I got home for work I didn't plop on my butt. Didn't have much time before council meeting, but I got dinner, got dishes put in dishwasher, set up coffee, freshened up a sweater to wear tomorrow, got lunch packed, litter boxes scooped out and trash put to curb. I thought that was pretty good for an hour. Therefore, I was able to come home after council, put my feet up, and catch up on here.
Have a good rest of today and good day tomorrow,
Ginny in Ohio

So smoky out there!!! According to one newspaper, "The island’s air quality rivals major Asian cities like Beijing and New Delhi". It's coming across from Victoria.
I went for a 3 km walk at lunch, but it was not comfortable.
They say we might get a thunderstorm and some rain this evening, and I hope we do ... it might dampen things down out there.
Meanwhile, for the first day since my Shingles Vax I'm actually feeling reasonably OK. I might even consider a bit of exercise downstairs after work ... maybe rowing a little or a short jog on the treadmill ...

Hi Gals,
Ginny – of course it takes 2 men to equal 1 woman.
Rebecca – Athena is adorable.
Janetr – thinking of you and your family.
Michele – when I had my colonoscopy I could only have yellow or green jello and Gatorade
Flea – ((((((((((((((((hugs))))))))))))
Rori & Karen– Happy Birthday and Anniversary
Carol – that grandson is a looker!
Continuing to be busy in both the gardening world and the embroidery world. Which is great but there are so many things I want to do, and sometimes I am a bit envious of those of you who are retired. I just have to remind myself that my time will come too. It is rose trimming time here, I have started on mine, my clients and will have a volunteer do the ones at camp. I also have fruit trees to prune, today I did 3 of the 60 to do at Camp, I figure 45 minute each or so. I am still pruning for height instead of production as the trees were overgrown I would like them to be under 5 feet tall after pruning so they will be under 7 feet tall when ready to pick, that is a manageable height with a 4 foot ladder. Out of the 60 there are only 4-5 that are in that range. But most of them were in the 10-15 foot range 3 years ago. Only 2 trees to do at home, one is done and one more to go, 8 roses at home and I have 3 done… so getting there.
Ok I know this is strange, but I have never had any of the “hang around” style sweatpants… I have had the sweat pant and jacket matching suits, but not just some to wear around the house when it is cool/cold I got my first pair of sweatpants, so cozy!
I made a fish stew from the Hairy Bikers cookbook that Heather has written about, OH MY so good. I served it to company and it was loved, the recipe said it made 4 servings, reality is more like 8 servings. So a friend and I were going to lunch tomorrow and instead she is coming here for fish stew.

Barbie – happy anniversary
Amber – you’re so right – that’s the oldest city in Texas!
Well, I finished all the orange jello and made some green. I don’t want to get real hungry if I can help it.
Working on a Christmas tree skirt. The one that I had was about 25 years old and over the years the white has discolored. So I’m trying making another one like it only I think the yarn that I used the first time was a bit thinner because this one looks thicker. Well, it might not look bad under the tree. And who knows? Maybe it’ll flatten out once it’s been used.

Unless something happens.
My husband has still not been given clearance to drive because of his brain injury and resulting epilepsy. Two years ago, things were great. He was settling into his new position, we were planning some time away (which we did take, thank goodness), and then ...
Enjoy it while you've got it.
Prepare just in case it's gone tomorrow.

Walk Score
https://www.walkscore.com/
https://www.walkscore.com/how-it-works/
https://www.walkscore.com/methodology.shtml
Walk Score measures the walkability of any address, Transit Score measures access to public transit, and Bike Score measures whether a location is good for biking.
Walk Score measures the walkability of any address using a patented system. For each address, Walk Score analyzes hundreds of walking routes to nearby amenities. Points are awarded based on the distance to amenities in each category. Amenities within a 5 minute walk (.25 miles) are given maximum points. A decay function is used to give points to more distant amenities, with no points given after a 30 minute walk.
Walk Score also measures pedestrian friendliness by analyzing population density and road metrics such as block length and intersection density. Data sources include Google, Factual, Great Schools, Open Street Map, the U.S. Census, Localeze, and places added by the Walk Score user community.
My area has a walk score of 53/100.
50–69 = Somewhat Walkable. Some errands can be accomplished on foot.
Not brilliant but at least we can get a few groceries at a shop about 400 metres from where we live.
As we get older and as the chances that we won't be able to hang onto our driver's licences increases, walkability becomes increasingly important.

Hi I'm up to P38 but really need to crack on, so will try and catch up later
Loving the photo's of the grandchildren .... all so cute, and the cat in the box, ours are the same, the minute I put a box down there's a cat in it mind you, we don't get chance to put a box down now, before we have got the item out of it our dog Leah grabs it and shreds it for us, (maybe it wasn't such a good idea to let Leah "help" with the boxes we had for recycling before Christmas ) She loves to shred boxes!
Mum is feeling a bit better, but I think I may be getting her cold hopefully I'll be able to shrug it off before it gets a hold.
Once DS is up and about he's taking me to B&Q (local DIY store) to get a box of laminate flooring for the kitchen, I've had a few samples, but it's really hard to choose, they are so small, so I'm going to put a few full size planks down to help me decide.
Better get on with some chores, I've been sat here too long.
Love to all

98/100 is incredible!!
You picked a really good place ... you're not dependent on a motor vehicle to get places.
The town where we lived before (in Victoria - the state north of us), has a walkability score of 71. I did like it there and would love to go back if there were work.

Karen VA ((((( )))))) sending you peace, so hard to say goodbye
Barbie sounds like my kind of Anniversary celebration, delightful. Happy Anniversary.
Allie enjoy your wonderful trip to Peru.
Ginny love how you turned an hour into such a positive use of time. This is my new goal, no "plopping on the couch" but get little and big things done.
I'm excited my retired friend (used to be a nurse, now teaching violin part time) is going to come over in early spring and test my soil as well as help me plot out some gardening ideas. In return, I am cooking her a lunch of thai food which is turning into my favorite new cuisine. Rachel and I made massaman curry last night and it was yummy.
Monday I reached out (by email) to fellow colleagues at work to get together before our concert this Thursday, what did I get in return? Crickets........ Ah well, perhaps if I had texted they would have responded? I don't feel hurt or disappointed, if I had to describe how I feel, I think better informed as to the folks i'm now working alongside.

Machka - It was one of the prime reasons for moving here. I hated having to get in the car for a pint of milk! Plus this is the second thinnest area in the country, Chelsea in London being the thinnest. Must be all the walking! Plus we have some of the lowest readings in the country for air pollution. Lots of people running, cycling, skateboarding, roller skating, walking. You can cycle all along the seafront on dedicated lanes. I'm always having to pull visitors out of the lanes!
I remember reading a study about the number of miles people walked in a week around the country. People in towns walked far more than countryside dwellers, with London being the highest! Not what people think. I guess NYC must be similar. We certainly walked our feet off when we were there.
Our public transport is also great and buses are free for pensioners over the whole country.
My new umbrella has just arrived. It's to replace the one that was blown inside out yesterday and broke. DH 's roller came in the same delivery. He's very keen to try it out.
It's still raining, but the wind has died down. It was blowing a gale all night. The disadvantage of living at the seaside! It really blows here and much more frequently than our previous house. I expect to do a bit of rowing this afternoon.

Katla, et al, Effective October 1, 2020, TSA requires valid passport or military id only for those of us who live in states whose drivers’ licenses are not compliant with the Real ID act. https://www.dhs.gov/real-id Looks like Oregon has an extension until August 7, 2020, Maybe airports in compliant states might already require it? Could be a problem returning from a compliant state to a non-compliant one with a non-compliant id? Blech. Your DMV is ahead of the curve, looks like most OR DMVs won’t issue Real ID compliant DL’s ‘til July 2020. https://www.oregon.gov/ODOT/DMV/Pages/Real_ID.aspx#dae97d76-8dd6-42d3-90e1-aa1bb18809e8 Not a problem that Joe won’t get one, he refuses to fly …

Good morning all! Happy Wednesday! I am singing the praises of the coffee bean this morning! One of those nights where I dreamt (it seems, all night) that I was working.
Happy Birthday to Rori and Karen
Happy Anniversary to Barbie and her DH!
Carol- ARen't your eyes that beautiful blue?! He is gorgeous! (Don't put him in a spoiler )
Machka- Hmmmm... I will have to see how my area is for a walk score. Maybe in the 50s? Lots of bikepaths and trails, but really too far to walk for any serious errand running/walking (5 miles to town).
Pip- Ugh! That bruise looks painful! Glad that is the worst of the crash!
KarenVA- Sending lots of hugs your way as you say goodbye to Bailey!
Flea- Sending prayers/vibes of comfort and strength to you and your family!
Yvonne- I learned, on my last visit to Fort Worth, that Nacodoches (sp?) is the oldest town in TX. I am curious; where were the original borders of Texas? Was, what is now the lower half of the state, part of Mexico? I will have to look that up. I am sure, like most states, borders were made and remade through many little wars and skirmishes over control, way back when.
Amber- Cute pic of JR in the tub! The tub is Joaquin's favorite place to play, as well (with or without water).
Speaking of Joaquin- for the past year he has been calling me "Grandmere" (grandmother) because Lauren speaks to him in french and that is how she refers to me with him. Yesterday, while we were talking he shortened it to "Meh-mi". lol Am I going to be a Mimi? We will see how many versions of grandma we go through until he settles on one name and what name will that be?
Pancake day for the kids. I better go and get flippin'! ttfn xoxoxo KJ (Kelly)5 -
Karen - I know how hard you have fought for your dog. Sending lots of healing thoughts as you go through this sad time.
Much love, Heather UK xxxxxxxx2
