Pip Hope you have a speedy recovery!
Michele I, too, am of the opinion that you don't need an accountability group. You are one of the most disciplined exercisers I know, and you're very conscientious about what you eat. And like you said, you'd hate to show someone up!

Tere - love the spinach story! My DH is the exact opposite of most men - he HAS to have a heap of green veggies with every meal. I love them too, but sometimes it feels a bit weird with pasta. No, I still have to deliver a heap of broccoli or something. I adore spinach and can never have enough! Another veg I can never get enough of is asparagus.
DH would have cabbage or broccoli with everything.
We have offered to have one of the kids on Sunday afternoon. It should be Bea's turn by rights. Waiting for an answer. It always cheers DH up no end.
More horrible weather expected this weekend. My brother texted me to say he is coming to see us when the weather improves. It does make you feel a bit disinclined to do much. I managed 380 bonus calories this afternoon on the rower and bike, but I've made a good job of eating them back. I did lose a pound last week, so I'm pleased. Just need to keep it up. A pound a week is doable, even at my level of feasting.

I carted my adult daughter around for a while before she got her car, it’s frustrating but to me it’s what family does for each other. I bet Dan is very grateful you are close and able to help.

Tracey -- I am so happy you said this. I would do this for my children, as well, if they needed it, and I was available. And we live across the street from a bus stop. My husband, before both sons had a car, would get so annoyed and complain that they should just take the bus or walk. But it could take them 45 minutes or more to get somewhere that I could take them in 10 minutes. It takes little effort on my part and shows support for whatever it is they are doing.
So, no questions from me, Allie. I understand completely, I think. (Assuming you have the same motivations I have for doing such things.)

OMG -- the funniest thing just happened at work.
So, our theatre group is doing a play over the next couple weeks, and the kids won't be able to make it to the cafeteria for dinner, so our director asked for volunteers to provide dinner to the group. I volunteered, so she sent out instructions which included cast dietary restrictions:
"The current issues are one gluten free, one fork free and one beef free."
So I had been pondering, "fork free"? I am familiar with the book "Forks over Knives," so I assume there must be a new thing "spoon over forks"? I try to think what not using a fork would say, either religiously, ethically . . . I am making tacos, so I think, "Well, you don't need a fork to eat that."
The director just came into my office to confirm my day, and so I asked her, "I am not familiar with 'fork free.' I think I can accommodate that, but I am just curious."
"PORK!!!" she said. "It was a stupid typo." "Pork. Not fork."
And then we just laughed and made jokes about what a 'fork free' diet would mean until we were in tears.
I needed that today.
But I still think a fork free diet could be intriguing.

Felicia— the devil in me is suggesting chopsticks for “diversity day.” As far as I know, I just made “diversity day” up, but I think it could be fun. (No forks or spoons allowed.😈1

Afternoon ladies,we as a group of the girls we used to work with are going to dinner tonight..
I have decided to bite the bullet and give my 2 weeks and pray all works out..
I do get alimony each week and will pound the pavement so to speak and I'm sure Trudy will help me...sometimes you just have to walk off a cliff and hope your parachute opens!!6 -
Allie ~ I think that is a wise decision. God will be with you!2

I am bummed out about my weight. Somehow, I have let 4 extra pounds creep in and no matter what I do, they just continue to linger.

Went to yoga this morning and then bought groceries. This morning it was beautiful out but by the time I put groceries away and went out to feed critters the clouds had blown in and the temp really dropped. Speaking of critters we need to barricade our foundation I think. Yesterday I heard a noise in my bathroom cupboard under the sink and thought there was a mouse in there. I opened the door and saw not a mouse or a rat but a weasel. I shut the door and made lots of noise to scare it out the way it found in. It disappeared but the dog and cats are finding that cupboard very interesting. There is access to the jetted tub from the outside and I think it must have come in that way. They are carnivores that eat mice and rats so no idea why it came into the house.
Allie - sounds like a good plan.
Pip - Hope you feel better soon.

Good Friday!
Lots of veggies today! Was necessary after so few yesterday. Good thing my scale said 1/2 lb loss this morning. I think I am done training which is a plus (at least remote training). Since my field is mainly males, the food choices at most suck when on a restricted eating plan. I made good choices but have not had yogurt in 2 days cause have been full. Love the spinach add!!!! I add spinach to my husband's salads sometimes, he will eat raw in small amounts. He doesn't like it cooked at all. I asked him today if he wanted to try yellow squash or zucchini. His reply, I am allergic! Really? I asked. What makes you think that? He said it makes him make funny faces and stick his tongue out I did get him to try some butternut squash. He is right-he makes funny faces and his tongue sticks out! LMAO! I guess I will be happy that he now eats broccoli and beets in addition to green beans, corn and carrots.
Bloodwork results-ours are posted on our medical portals. I didn't appreciate it as much as I do now after talking with you ladies.
My paperwork for the hemotologist appointment came in today. The large envelope said Kettering Cancer center on it. I am surprised my MIL hasn't asked what is going on. She collects the mail for us. I am hoping she didn't have her glasses on and that I was forewarned. Appointment is March 27th to figure out lowering WBC.
Welcome to the new ladies. Fyi- I just decline invitations from guys. I have a few I have been friends with since I have been on MFP, but unless they give a good reason, they are an automatic dismiss. I agree this isn't Tinder.
Allie- I am proud of you! I know that sometimes my working with family is hard, your situation is much worse! I am sure you will find something more fitting to you!
Flea- Fork!!!!! LOL!!!
I am sure there is more, but it is time for bed.

Debbie – when I go to the gym, I always use those disinfectant wipes even on the weights. I try to remember to wipe the equipment (treadmill, elliptical, etc) BEFORE I use it mainly because you can’t be 100% sure the person before you wiped down the equipment. Most people do, that’s true. But it only takes one person who doesn’t
Tere RVA – if Vince ever knew what was in his food, he’d never eat again!!! So I hear ya, don’t tell them and they’ll never know that they’re eating something good for them. If Vince ever knew how many times he ate tofu…. If he can see it, he won’t eat it. But the silken tofu…he can’t see it. And applesauce instead of oil. Or prunes in chocolate for sweetness. Oh, I know a lot of tricks …lol
Maggie – lately I’ve gotten a lot of friend requests from guys. I just delete them (don’t accept). As a matter of fact, I got one this morning.
Heather – asparagus for me has to be fresh. Most other veges I’ll eat the frozen ones. But for some reason not asparagus. Maybe I should at least try it frozen again. Then I can eat it lots more. The biggest problem I find with asparagus is how it makes your pee smell
Went to the pot luck. There were quite a few dishes that had meat in them which I tried to avoid (since it’s Friday during Lent). I had mostly fruit. One lady made some clam chowder which was really good. But I did probably overdo it on the desserts. Well, I’m keeping with my “sacrifice” of not having anything to eat after dinner so we shall see how it goes. Played canasta after the pot luck and had a fun time. Will go to this one lady’s condo Sun. to play Mexican Train.
Tomorrow we're leaving around 9 to go to this place in West Melbourne to see about ceramic bisque
Michele who will be back in NC in a week … boo

Karen - thanks for the link on 5 wishes. I was telling the Rec and Rehab therapists along with our Director of Care about my dreams and worries. They said it’s a really good idea to put down your likes and dislikes, what your favourite colour is, some of your favourite activities, memories, etc and alternatively what upsets you, what are your dislikes. They said that they depend on family members to give this information but how well does your family know you. They used my shower example and said does your family know that you are claustrophobic in a shower or do they think you just prefer baths? It’s made me do a lot of thinking.
The rec therapist also told us a story about how small things they do in rec will trigger something in someone that makes them engage when they haven’t for months or even years. She has virtual reality goggles that can be used on the residents, one resident she found out was a farmer and his favourite time of year was harvest. She put a video of a field being harvested and he “drove” the combine for over an hour and was smiling and engaging the whole time.
The other story she told was last month she started a “pub night” she set the rec area up as a pub with cards on the tables, a variety of non alcoholic beverages. One man who has not engaged in any other activity and hasn’t really talked, even to his family members since the Fall started talking and interacting just as is he was a bartender again which he was in his 20’s. Another one, when offered a second beer, said he better not as he had to drive home. One of the rec aides said it was ok she would drive him home, he sat back and ordered two more beer and continued chatting with his table mates.
Flea - our transit system is terrible for connections. The same idea a 10 minute drive becomes an hour to get there.
Right now I am helping out by watching the Grands a couple evenings a week after work so my daughter could get a couple extra shifts. She picks me up from work, drives the kids and I back to my place, she goes to work. I feed the kids supper, they play for a bit then I drive them home after their Dad gets home from work and has had time to eat and shower. It’s how we help out because I don’t have money to give them to help.
Allie - I am so happy to read that you are giving notice. I bet you will find something very quickly when you don’t have all of that stress to deal with.
Michele - do you and Vince rent the condo out when you aren’t there. Do you get down more than once a year?
I had a chat with my Mom tonight on Facebook messenger video chat. Her nursing home has been shut to visitors for the last 3 weeks due to flu. I asked her how she has kept busy and she told me she has read and coloured. I said are you needing new colouring books, she said she did I then asked how her markers were doing and she said she could always use more. So after spending 25.00 to ship 3 packs of lifesavers to my Father In Law last week I thought I would look on Amazon for colouring books for Mom. I typed in Adult colouring book and got an education! There are some hilarious titles that my Mother would laugh at, but probably never use.
Lisa the titles tell me that your sarcastic cards would be a hit now
I’ve already written a novel so I’ll refrain from adding more.
It was +6 again, hopefully will be that nice this weekend.

Michele - I use frozen peas in recipes like pasta, or curry, and broad beans occasionally, because they freeze well and don't lose their texture. I also use frozen leaf spinach in the Feta Pie and in curries, but I don't like it as a main vegetable as it isn't as tasty as fresh. We can buy fresh veg 100 yards away so everything else is fresh. Some veggies do keep well in the fridge. I have a huge cauliflower in there at the moment, along with the asparagus. Tonight we are having roast Mediterranean veggies (zucchini, egg plant, red capsicum, tomatoes) with feta. Brown rice. I might roast the asparagus at the same time, just putting them in at the end with the feta. It was DH's suggestion and he is picking up the veg when he goes out in the rain and wind for the newspaper.

Happy Leap Day!
Although I took yesterday off to buy clothes, I was not in the mood when I had gotten up. So instead I completed some light chores such as filling up the gas tank, running to the grocery store and what not. It was nice not being on a schedule and deciding to do what I wanted. Publix, the go-to grocery store here in South Florida, has weekly recipe demos. This week’s recipe is Spicy Sicilian Shrimp. It’s a different version of a few shrimp recipes in my repertoire. The smell of it cooking was mouth-watering so instead of lunch out I decided I would make a special dinner for myself this evening.
I have a flower arranging class late this morning. It is a tropical arrangement filled with bright colors. I am certainly looking forward to it. There are some discount stores in the area so I will be scanning the racks after class for some much needed clothes. I will only be picking up a few mix and match pieces since I have not yet hit goal.
Coronavirus – General commentary and opinion. I think once this new strain was discovered most governments around the world have done almost as much as could be done for containment. When we think about how people move around the world at breakneck speeds and how we congregate in so many extremely tight quarters to do so it is actually surprising we have not seen more cases. We should all use general sanitary guidelines every day (thank you Machka for your posts), not just when a sudden outbreak occurs. Hand washing, avoiding touching our faces with our hands, staying a safe distance from people – especially strangers, covering our mouths with a tissue when we sneeze, wiping down highly touched areas every day, individual towels for family members, etc. are all something we should practice. As of 2017 there were 7.53 billion people in the world. As of the latest article there are 85,678 cases of the coronavirus with 2,933 deaths. Most of the deaths have occurred in China which isn’t surprising. When I think about the actual numbers it makes me realize the chances of me getting COVID-19 are slim especially with good sanitary practices in place. If I do get it it’s my destiny (just like any other flu or virus).
Quite a few years ago there was a program on regarding avoiding viruses/flues. It suggested women should wipe down their purses weekly with a baby wipe (inside and out and all of the things we keep in them). We should also wipe our lipsticks weekly with a clean paper towel (the container and the actual lipstick). An additional thing I have had in practice for years is carrying a pen and never using the one provided in any public place (oh, think of the germs).
Terry – Thank you for providing the UAC information to Michelle.
Michelle – I really enjoy the UAC group. It’s more than just an accountability group. The members are very encouraging and have a lot of great ideas and experiences. We determine if we are in the Winner’s Circle.
JanetO – Glad you are enjoying your new role even though you do not yet have full access to the programs you need. Sorry to hear about your knee. Glad you are getting it checked out because it does sound like a little more than arthritis.
Tere – I laughed when I read your DH soup story. Hiding spinach in soup! Oh, they can be such children. I am very regular but when I need assistance I find a few prunes or prune juice is just perfect for me.
Flea – Fork free – LOL!!!! Before I read the punch line I thought, OMG, kids/people are now using forks to hurt others.
Carol – Sorry to hear of those four pounds sticking around. Have you been measuring/weighing your food? With me I usually find if I am doing everything right and the weight is not dropping and/or I am gaining it is usually due to my eyeballing my intake is not the same as actually measuring it. Or, my system simply needs a shock/change to get it restarted. Again, with me, that typically means a weekend of more food than normal and then getting back on track.
Pip – Hope you’re feeling better.
Has anyone heard from bananasandoranges?
Laundry is calling me to move it in to the dryer. I hope everyone enjoys or has enjoyed their extra day.
Hugs to all and prayers for those in need.

Good morning ladies
I am awake and lying in bed with Alfie snoozing next to me...
Was very quiet yesterday even last night but had a great time with the girls
Bringing Alfie over for a playdate for a few hrs at Tom's
Will get up in a few minutes make myself some tea and write the resignation letter.. I have faith all will work out.6 -
Michelle- I prefer my asparagus fresh too. I I agree about pee smell! It happens like right away for me! I prefer my broccoli fresh too. I am prefer more flower, less stalk. Frozen seems to have lots stalk.
Helping adult children......I have helped financially but have been paid back. One daughter is fast to pay, the other......well....at one point she wanted a nose piercing. I told her I didn't care that she was a married mother of two, as long as she owed me money, she was still a child and the answer was NO. About 2 years later, she paid me in full. I said thank you and the answer is still no. She said, no worries, she has outgrown that phase-lol! I , like Tracey watched our oldest granddaughter after work as her mom(my youngest) worked nights. Donovan was out to sea, they were young, GD was only one, so daughter and her moved to be closer to us. We would pick Nevaeh up from the sitter when we got off work, feed, play, bath, bed. In the morning we took her home to mommy. We had her 5-7 nights a week. She went everywhere with us. When Donovan got stationed in FL for a land duty, they moved. To this day, my heart still aches about the day they left. We would meet my daughter 1/2 way every few months, to exchange Nevaeh. We would keep her for about 6 weeks, then send her home for about 6 weeks. She went to work with us every day. Then school began.......... Nevaeh was the only grand that we were able to do that with. Her brother was a momma boy and was 3 before he stayed a week with us with no mommy. My oldest daughter didn't let us keep kids overnight until they went to Punta Cana for a week. I did figure out that I am thankful in some ways that I had my kids young, but in some ways wished I had waited longer. I had much more energy at 20, but not as much patience. Amber probably understands this. Hugs to all still helping our kids. There is a fine line between helping and enabling.
The sun is suppose to shine this weekend and temperatures to warm up starting Sunday. Then rain for 4 days. Going to enjoy this weekend. I might even get outside and walk the driveway. Yes, I am a fair weather walker
SIL showed up to work again yesterday. I wiped down and disinfected everything she may have touched on Thursday. I was going behind her for the hour she was there yesterday disinfecting and wiping down anything she touched! I too take elderberry syrup.

Good morning all. Had a not so good day at work yesterday and ended up extremely frustrated. Just lots of stupid things done by staff. Needing to make some other process changes that my boss wants. I know they can work out in the long run, but initially it feels like our department is the one that will suffer. I expressed my feelings on it and while assured by them, decided I see things as I see them. I know I will figure out a way to positively implement things but it made me realize how many of these things have been asked of us and the weaknesses of those implementations. Want to learn from past errors and try to avoid them for this next shift. To end the day found out another employee (who is a marginal worker) did something entirely wrong and based it on another staff's ideas. Called that department head on my way to the gym and colorfully expressed my displeasure. Then I went to the gym.
After a good workout I no longer felt like I was going to slap someone. Texted department head that I had regained my center. Got a good night's sleep, Today I will map out plan for dealing with situations (all 5 of them from yesterday). I find if I put steps in writing it is easier to deal with them with less emotion. My frustration doesn't rise to that level very often thank goodness. Does have me thinking about when is the time to retire. I don't have to be working now. If I am going to stay longer I need to decide why and what I hope to accomplish. Guess since it is Lent this is a good time for this introspection.
Kylia-glad you are working with Kettering Cancer Center--they should be able to figure things out. I go to the James at Ohio State (have for years) since they have a very good endo cancer group. I think we are fortunate in our area because there are several very good medical facilities and with them each have different areas of expertise most things are covered.
Off to make my grocery list and work on destressing--will use my typical house cleaning and I want to get my taxes done today. I think weather will be decent enough today (even if cool) to get outside for nice walk.
Take care all,
Ginny in Ohio.6 -

Turmeric was supposed to ease joint pain, but it seemed to make it worse ... especially in my hips and lower back. It had me wondering if I had kidney stones again. It also made my stomach upset. But worst of all, after going a long time without a period, after just a few weeks of turmeric, I had one again. Might have been coincidence, but it does act like oestrogen so it could have messed with my hormones a bit.It suggested women should wipe down their purses weekly with a baby wipe (inside and out and all of the things we keep in them). I'd have to find my purse and lipstick first!
I can't actually remember the last time I used lipstick, but I probably have some old ones somewhere. I do use a lip moisturiser, but I go through them pretty quickly.
And as for purses, I have one I use when we go to the symphony about 6 times a year ... and I recently bought one for the first time in years which I leave at work. It's a small one and pretty much empty. I pop my phone and building pass in when I go out at lunchtime sometimes, and then those two things come out and it goes back into the drawer. I suppose I should wipe it down.
I do, however, clean my phone about once a week ... which reminded me to do that again.

Allie - Hope your resignation soon feels you've taken that weight off your shoulders. You've been unhappy ever since this doc took over. I know I felt the same way after the CEO changed over to the interim at my last council. I didn't last nearly as long as you did, only a bit over three months. You're tougher than anyone I know, girlie. From Kylia: Hugs to all still helping our kids. There is a fine line between helping and enabling.
Well said. When we found out our son was coming back to Arkansas, I had to be the one to say to him, "We love you very much, and you are welcome to come visit, but you will not be living with us." Unfortunately, with the VA supporting him with 90% disability, his get up and go just got up and went.
The pay is not enough to independently support himself and the child support he pays unless he actually gets a job. So to avoid that, on his return he's moving back in with a friend who will charge him a minimal amount to room with him. And he has zero intentions of getting a job or transferring his school credits to a local college.
He is throwing away so much, because the VA will pay his tuition, books, room and board for him to go to college (and did just that in Oregon) but that's more work than he wants to participate in, apparently. He maintained a solid B throughout, so it's not because he can't learn the material--it was just more effort than he anticipated.
We love him very much, but had to acknowledge to each other that he finds no value in hard work, and the VA pay helps him avoid it. He is 26 years old, does not have a driver's license, and has no plans on getting one, as it gives him a good excuse, again, not to work. He's a grown-*kitten* man, and has his own path to trod. We choose not to enable his behavior by letting him stay in our house and sit on his butt smoking cigarettes on our back porch. Our own work ethics are simply so deeply ingrained that we can't bring ourselves to support a grown man who refuses to work at all.
Not saying it's easy. Not saying that, if he's starving, we wouldn't feed him. But we won't enable him not to work.
Sorry, didn't mean to write a book - he'll be back in Arkansas in three weeks, and he's on my mind.
Got writing to do this morning!
Love y'all,
Lisa in AR
