I meant to tell Machka how much I loved her last photos and Michele that I examined both of those cross-stitched quilted items closely and they are perfectly beautiful.
SuziQ, Yes. The mental health issue. Thank you for that insight.4 -
My DSIL rang this morning. She is a retired intensive care sister. She can't do that work as she is nearly 67 and has a bad leg. She is also a counsellor and they have asked her to do pastoral work. This is talking with people whose loved ones have died. I'm not happy about this for Karen's reasons. Her boyfriend, who has moved in with her for the duration, is diabetic and on the extra skinny side. She hasn't yet been called up and I hope she won't be, but she is made of "giving service" stuff. It was lovely to talk to her. Yesterday her daughter Messaged me. That's a rare thing.
Absolutely beautiful weather. So strange. I once wrote a poem about how weird it feels when funerals are held in gorgeous weather, like it was for my stillborn daughter. The contrast with the rain inside is mind bending. Spring is burgeoning.
I said DH should do the dance challenge I've set the grandchildren. I would video it and send it to them. He didn't look very enthusiastic!! He said he would video me, but it wouldn't be funny if I did it, as I love it!
Barbara- DH did the treasure hunt, so it's on his computer.
SuziQ - I would just enjoy those delicious shrimps if I were you. Feeling guilty about them isn't going to help anyone else. Sounds like a great find.
Love Heather UK xxxxxxxx who is going to run 5k today. At a very big social distance.3 -

Regarding the length of time this situation could last ...
They are estimating that the vaccine won't be available for 12-18 months. That means the virus could keep doing its rounds till then. It is, apparently, coming back into China now that people who fled are returning.
That doesn't mean we have to remain in isolation for 12-18 months, but we will have to practice hygiene, social distancing, and businesses may have to change the way that they operate.

If you're at home with your spouse or friend, try this: stand side by side with your arms out. Touch fingers.
Stay that far apart!
Or further!! 1.5+ metres is not immediately next to a person. It is not one arm length away. It is at least 2 arm length away!!
I must channel the "angry teenager" and start telling people to step back.
Like this ...
Meanwhile, I think I must be feeling a little bit stressed ... my hot flashes are back and my appetite has diminished.

Barbara AHMOD - The reason the governor hasn't put Texas on total lockdown is because approx 4/5 of the states counties don't have reported cases of C19. Some of those are of course because testing hasn't been done. He is (at this point) leaving it to the cities/counties to issue lockdowns for their areas. If the numbers keep going up on affected counties, I suspect a lockdown will happen at that point. In the Austin area, we are expecting an announcement today to issue a shelter in place. That's what I am doing anyway, so no change for me.

Carol (Peach)- Biggest of hugs to you and your DH for letting your renter, who is out of work, unpaid, know that she doesn't need to worry about her rent this month! As a person who could easily be in that situation, it touched my heart. I hope more mortgage companies and landlords take a similar stance.
Janet R- Baby Jaxx! He is adorable!
My new normal routine: Kids arrive in the morning, I meet them at cubby area in my garage (where all of their outerwear stays), I take their temp and we say good bye to parents, we go into the house and wash our hands, then in for breakfast or play. (Pretty much normal activities; but with more handwashing and one more temperature check at mid day). Kitchen surfaces, handles, chairs, etc. are wiped down with clorox solution after each meal and kitchen activity. We spend two plus hours outside every day (as long as it is not raining). All "mouthed" toys/objects are thrown into a disinfecting bin. Kids are picked up. Parents text me when they arrive and child is taken to the garage cubbies for hand off. ( I really miss the interaction with the parents). When all kids are gone, all surfaces, shelves, furniture in kitchen, bathroom, living room are wiped down with clorox solution. All door knobs, handles, railings and bannisters are wiped down with clorox solution. All windows (because their noses and mouths are always pressed against them) are wiped down first with clorox solution- then with windex to get rid of streaks. Toys that have been played with get laid on a sheet and sprayed with clorox solution or run through the dishwasher on hot setting. Sweep and mop floors in those three rooms. I then throw my clothes in the washing machine, take a shower and wash hair and then make dinner for family. It is now 7:30pm and I have an hour or two to relax. Tim comes up stairs to the daycare areas, only when we are outside or when the kids are napping. He wears gloves. He and I are also keeping a "space bubble" between us, probably not six feet, but usually a minimum of four feet. I am thankful that the bed he is most comfortable in, is in his office; so separate sleeping situations is not a new thing for us. We are also "hopeful" that the plaquenil he is taking for his RA is creating a barrier of sorts for the virus. We have seen articles that the ingredient hydrochloriquine is proving to be something that works to fight this bug.
Anyway, all good here. I am beginning to get calls for care, so we will see how long before I am fully engaged on the front lines. I have sent an email to my current families and all of my non-essential families have pulled their children (two families-three kids). I have two other families that are essential workers, but are working from home. They still bring their kids to me because it IS hard to get things done with a two year old and a four year old around. But I am preparing myself for them to decide to keep their kids home, once I have more families of front line workers. The odds of catching the virus increase in these cases.
Sending lots of love and hugs to you all! ttfn xoxoxo KJ (Kelly, who starts her day with bleach and a prayer)11 -

Good morning ladies!
Just popping in for a few minutes right now. State of WA has been put under a "Stay Home" order for all but essential jobs - I just scanned that list and most of the places I shop are considered essential - Big Box stores, pet stores, farm stores, garden centers and even the Cannabis store!
Karen in VA- please keep those tips coming. Soapy washcloth wiping down store purchases - great idea! Love the reason why. You are teaching health & safety 101 here and I'm an avid student.
Windex? I have a shelf in the garage with just about every spray cleaner created so will see what else what else might fit the bill to get after those nasty viruses. Might accidentally clean the inside of my car too. It will be in shock!
Back later for catch up.

Meanwhile, I think I must be feeling a little bit stressed ... my hot flashes are back and my appetite has diminished.
M in Oz
On our walk this evening ...
BTW - just to elaborate a little on the "feeling stressed". There are a number of things going on.
Worried about parents in Canada.
Worried about brother and his kids in the US.
Taking 2 courses at once is a little more stressful than just 1 course.
Work is busier and I'm trying to get through a mountain of "usual" work all at once ... just in case ...
My husband's situation continues ... and aspects of it mean I have to be busier than usual. And he's worried.
I'd like a day to rest ... but there are always 1001 things to do.

Janet- I’m not 60 yet got the Walmart notice too it was sent to all with the app or Walmart cards.
Texas- Yup our state is certain areas only on mandatory or optional lockdown .My area mandatory
Dad is now paying extra for HEB to home delivery 🚚 so no store risk as much. Aunt still online curb side pickup told him to tell her to consider home delivery they can order together!

Barbara removing wires would need to be done carefully becasue unless done with gloves the flliter could get contaminated . Still it will play with it and try it. To me the use for this mask is an individual to use like putting on your shirt in the morning. The important thin as others have pointed out is take it off right away when home and then wash it in soap and water with a few sprays of bleach spray. I also like the idea of spraying it periodically during the day with Eucalypsis spray.
For doctors it might not be as practical because ideally they change masks in between patients. For the time being masks are going to be in such short supply the doctorrs and nurses will probably have to wear the same mask all day. If this mask or one like it again my suggestion would be to spray it down with a eucalypsis between patients and only use it in a COVID-19 ward. I would use a new cover the next day because would cut down on doctor being exposed. Still trying to figure if much use practically.
Still for public who do not have much access to mask it is something. I admit I am reusing my N-95 mask and in ideal conditons it would be thrown out by now.
SuzieQ you are so correct in what you are reading. I know I am on the manic side. I had half the house ready to move to my son's. It would have been a disaster for him to see me coming with all that stuff. I quickly realized the error of my ways. Up side is it did get me to see what I vaule at a time like this and what is truly needed in time of emergency.
I slept the best I have slept in days last night. I am starting to see there are people working to come up with creative solutions on how to deal with this. My choir is going to try a Zoom choir get together tomorrow night.
It is like everyone is struck down at the same time and everyone is reacting to this differently and I respect that. I knew somewhat to expect because of Amber's head up yet my reponse is pushing me towards mania. I recognize this and as hard as it is I know I need to pull back and focus on one task at a time and pace myself.
I think part of my reaction is I have been in crisis mode for twelve years with son and thirty years for me so I finely think I can say I have learned to get my sleep through a war.
I am already seeing so many people reaching out to help each other get through this. We will prevale. If my son can still believe after everything he has been thourgh I truly believe in the power of the human spirit.
I miss those that have taken a break from us during this time I understand. It is overwhelming and worrisome what is happening. They are taking the time they need to sort this out for themselves and where to go from here.
I take many breaks from dealing with this world crisis.
As I have said before when I see people going through a crisis there is no right or wrong way to repond and do something nice for yourself and someone else a phone call or text to check in is great..
Yesterday with mask, gloves, and glassed on and social distancing I dropped off a package of supplies to a stranger who is taking care of twin foster girls. Made my day.

JanetR - so good to see you, and welcome to that beautiful great grandson.
Michele - I loved the lap quilts, thank you for posting them.
Machka - thank you for the pictures, they really make me understand your environment.
All who are cleaning, I'm sure you know this, but please be very careful not to mix bleach and ammonia, even in solution - and Windex is ammonia. Together in sufficient quantities, they can create chlorine gas, and it's quite dangerous. KJ - your cleaning list reminded me! , and I noticed you use them quite separately. For everyone, please note, many dish soaps also contain ammonia, which is fine, but if they do, should not be mixed with bleach either.
Still working at home, my situation simply hasn't changed that much except I don't take lunchtimes to do retail therapy.
Love,
Lisa

left the house on the bike at 4:30 this morning and it seems like there was more traffic than usual. we (washington state) is supposed to be on mandatory home stay. kirby and i both have "essential" jobs. actually, yesterday was kirby's 1st day back after having the week off. he was working in the OR pharmacy (he's a pharmacy tech at a hospital and will work either in the in patient pharmacy or the OR pharmacy OR= Operating Room) and he said there were only 3 orders he had to fill. i asked how many does he usually have, he said like 60-70 orders. i asked how long does it take for him to fill 3 orders, said about 2-3 hours. said he helped out in other areas to keep busy. basically, only necessary operations are being done5

Janet OKC ~ Love the photo of your new Grandson. So cute that he has his thumb in his mouth already.
Michele ~ Your cross stitch hangings are lovely.
Sharon ~ So glad to see that you have been well stocked up. So sorry for your youngest daughter’s dilemma and hope she will be able to find help for getting through this terrible virus.
Luci ~ Healing thoughts for your husband.
SuziQ ~ Your “grateful” comments are so inspiring. They make me realize how much I have to be thankful for.
Karen VA ~ Hope your ex will get the message that he is not doing the right thing by continuing go about his daily habits and then visiting your grandchildren.
Kylia ~ Big Hugs! So sorry for the stress you are going through.
Kelly ~ You must be exhausted doing all that cleaning. I hope your day care families will compensate you while they are not bringing their children each day. There were a lot of comments in the Nextdoor emails about the fact that many people are not using their house cleaners and how they don’t realize that this is how these people survive.
DH had to pick up his BnL at the hospital yesterday and take him back to the assisted living facility. They brought the BnL out to the car so DH did not have to go inside. When he came home, into the washing machine went his clothes.
I tried to put in a pick up order from Kroger yesterday and was told that it couldn't be picked up until Friday from 7PM to 8PM. Just erased all the items as I figure by that time of day, it would all begone. We will try to go during the elder shopping time from 7 to 8 Am.
So many pages to read that I know there were so many I did not comment on. But, want all to know that I am so happy to have this place to visit each day! Thank you!
Carol in GA5 -
Karen in VA -About that soapy washcloth - does it have to be warm? Do you just keep it in a baggie or an insulated cooler? Do you wipe items dry with paper towels that you then chuck into the garbage? I have a huge jug of grease cutting Dawn that will probably be perfect for the job.
Barbara AHMOD - Pluto could be a twin to our Rosie. Except Rosie's voice isn't so sweet, lol.
Katla - looks like Oregon's essential jobs list is close to Washington's. I really liked our Governor's presentation last night, found it very calming and hopeful. He said let's give it a try for 2 weeks minimum and see if it pays off.
Margaret - I want to reach thru the screen and give you a virtual hug. Totally agree, I think lots of folks who were under stress anyhow from caring for physically or mentally fragile family members are finding this latest circumstance maxing us out. Sure helps to take a breather and get things into perspective. I find myself instinctively dwelling on the worst that could happen scenario until I talk it over with someone or just put my fears down on paper = love this group!
I asked my DH if he had any anxiety about somehow catching this virus. He said not at all, if it's his time to go, so be it. That helped me at lot. He's had a few close calls in the past decade, and he's pretty stoic about most things anyhow.
Saw a blurb this morning that the WHO is recommending people watch the news only ONCE per day to benefit their mental health. Totally agree, it's too crazy and stressful and full of things we cannot control. I can get the weather report online. And an email twice a day from our county emergency management division that fills me in on what's important and may impact us. That's all I need to know.
Really appreciating the laughs and jokes coming through on Facebook these days. Wish I could post links to some of them, will investigate.
Off to the races, dear ones.

PayPal says call EBay. EBay is closed. Hubby checking with Credit card company but may be out if the money until EBay reopens or permanently. Just wanted to get it for Doctors in my area who are in need y nurses. Oh well I tried it’s the thought that counts.
Construction worker 👷♂️to electricians folks picture the guy in their living room tiling their tub y screwing in a light bulb or getting a toy out of their toilet a kid flushed. That’s just a tiny side job. Other things you picture is paving a bank parking lot. What you don’t see is their Real purpose which is building Hospital 🏥 rooms ,Installing machines that weigh a ton for Hospitals after they create a secured spot to place it with electrical plugs to water lines, putting doors y wall up to turn a waiting room into an isolation room , turning a closet into a room to take measurements to blood pressure so nurses can be safer push people through faster,, wheel chair ramp to a door not originally to take patients out of but now need it because of tent hospitals, plumb the toilets, etc . There also needed on military bases housing the sick to medical clinics y grocery stores (picture the electrical needing work a whole row of meat freezers not working!) So yes Hubby still working in our city some cities may decide construction isn’t essential but our city with 2million people needs them still.

Good morning!
Janetr ... beautiful baby with his thumb firmly planted in his mouth! Proof that life ... precious life ... continues!
Good News ...
My dad was able to pass his obstruction without surgery! We are waiting on the doctor's plan of action. Releasing him home will have its own set of problems, but we'll figure it out.
My niece (32) with 4 children, texted that she became engaged on Sunday to a very stable, sensible man (42). She has never been loved, not even by the fathers (yes plural) of her children. I am so thankful for this honorable man in her life.
I sent my pastor/boss an email explaining why I was unwilling to enter facilities that should be on lockdown ... he was very sympathetic and contrite actually (used Lisa's Emily Landon reference). I am officially laid-off and he is trying to find ways that I might receive partial financial help. My husband and I can manage without my income for a while. Very thankful for that. My job will be waiting for me when buildings are officially allowed to be reopened.
I was somewhat successful in managing my day better yesterday. I had a small pork tenderloin that I turned into parmesan crusted medallions, roasted a small butternut squash that I received in a produce box last week and then I tried a new recipe that I had most of the ingredients for: Cacio e Pepe Brussels Sprouts ... a Skinnytaste recipe. Very good for a change. https://www.skinnytaste.com/cacio-e-pepe-brussels-sprouts/.
Karen VA ... thank you for the cleaning food instructions from shopping. I will be doing this with everything that enters the house form now on. We did not do this correctly at all when we picked up our instacart groceries on Sunday. But I've been wiping as I use things so hoping that it will be enough over time. It's all a learning experience.
And I appreciate you and others (SuziQ, Amber, Margaret for example) who keep me informed.
Kelly ... "bleach and a prayer" ... good words for all of us! I'll be praying for your group as well.
My husband learned this morning that he may be required to go back to work if employees in a critical area become ill (he works for a utility). He has more experience than most. This would mean he will be vulnerable to exposure, but we'll deal with it as you have all suggested if it comes to that.
Today's plan is to get some exercise on my treadmill, clean the bathrooms, prepare dinner for the hoover appetites in the house, process some more food that I don't want to go to waste and then rest! I'll check back in with you all later.

eBay is one of our largest clients. Most of its staff worked remotely prior to the current situation so there should be no reason why you cannot speak or email someone.
If they are giving you the runaround which seems to be the case call not only PayPal but also your bank to which the card is connected. Dispute the charge with both of them. Yes, they will ask the same questions. When eBay or PayPal give you the "it is them" line please note they are the same company. So get rude if you have to do so. PayPal spun off of eBay to track revenues better. And, technically PayPal is a "bank" so must be separated from its other businesses.
And, now you are learning why I will never, ever use either. I know one should never say never, but I know this is something I will stick to unless they become the only supplier of goods and services. For the pennies saved it is not worth my time nor energy which is more valuable to me.3 -
Beth The amount of virus on most surfaces is not large compared to the amount from being exposed by someone coughing within 6 feet of you. Still, it's worth decontaminating as best you can before groceries come in the house. Most important: Don't touch your face. Wash hands for 20 seconds when appropriate. Keep social distance when it's necessary to be around others.
So very glad your dad didn't have to have surgery! I have been thinking about him and your mom. And...it's so very heartwarming that your niece with 4 children is engaged to an honorable man. And…that Brussels sprouts recipe sounds delicious. Last, but not least, SO proud of you for being assertive with your pastor/boss.

Today we went to Costco at 8 am to pick up prescriptions and groceries. They had almost everything on our list - the only things they didn't have were bleach, Lysol, and eggs. We were disappointed about the eggs.

Is that "The Happiness Lab with Dr. Laurie Santos". That's the one I'm listening to3 -
We had such fun today! I set the kids a "dance" homework, giving them a list of animals.
It was hilarious! My son videoed their efforts and sent us them on WhatsApp. We had to guess what they were. Brilliant. Max's bumblebee was amazing! He is an excellent dancer. He goes to streetdance classes in normal times.
Then I got DH to have a go and I filmed him doing a chicken, a hippo and a giraffe. They had to guess, but got the hippo wrong. We all thought it was a gorilla!
Certainly cheered us all up no end!
Previous to that we had gone out for a 5k run. Managed to avoid everyone on the seafront. Fabulous weather. They are still building the Pink Floyd house. Shame on them. The builders were very close together.
Found carrots on the way home. Only 2 people allowed in the shop. I didn't use their baskets, just paper bags.
Good day for us. And the kids.

Just popping in for a few minutes right now. State of WA has been put under a "Stay Home" order for all but essential jobs - I just scanned that list and most of the places I shop are considered essential - Big Box stores, pet stores, farm stores, garden centers and even the Cannabis store!
Lanette

Ha! I was wondering about that. Governor Brown's order didn't specifically mention cannabis shops, that I recall.
I was officially told yesterday that I am to work from home. (I have been doing it for the past week, and have developed a great routine. I think I got much more done yesterday than I do when I am 'at work.") My boss also told me today that two of my administrative staff and all student workers are being laid off. I feel very sad for my administrative assistants. Well, and the student workers, but they have a safety net. One of my staff is single with roommates. The other is married, but her husband has difficulty with employment, and currently works at a pizza shop. I don't know what that store's status is with the new order.
I did get permission to continue going in on Saturdays to work on the federal reports that I can't finish from home. I had to run in this morning to grab a couple things, and it is weird being there. No one is around now.
My EMS son, who is still in the two-year program, actually got a job, but the training doesn't start until April 20. He will be driving/serving for a private ambulance service. I assume there is still a need for such things, but he did say that ambulance calls have dropped off.
My middle son is home from college, and it's funny how a world emergency changes your outlook. He doesn't know what he wants to do with his life, but I am perfectly fine letting him take this time to figure it out. I have encouraged him to take an online class this spring from the community college. His plan was to work, but with unemployment going the way it is going, I don't see him getting a job. The only jobs hiring right now are high-risk public facing jobs, which we are not to keen to have him take. We will see.
Much love.

The things I have learned today.
My Reason to Break Self-Isolation for Just an Hour
This is a little long winded..........As I duly noted in my morning post I officially started day 8 of my self-isolation. I want to do my part and slow the spread as much as possible so we can more quickly get back to our new normal. It is also my feeling the county I reside in (Broward) will fully put in to place "essential trips" only sooner than later.
Even though I am in a good place with workarounds and supply-wise I started to think about my mental health. I have been spending more time than usual in my courtyard. In South Florida this is the time where all of our fall/winter (one season here) annuals are dead and it is time to plant our spring/summer annuals. The little hangers and pots I have scattered throughout it are empty and blah. I started to realize this was really bothering me and affecting my mood.
Reading Kylia's posts and her concern of the business not being considered "essential" basically made my mind up to go out to the local nursery today. I wanted to be sure I was ahead of the possible closing of the store.
I also decided it was time to put my "going out in public" plan to the test. I made sure there was hand sanitizer and Lysol in my car. I also brought some clean towels to use for cleanup and a Ziploc bag to seal them in. I closed the blinds in my house where neighbors could possibly see me naked getting from the front door to my shower. The shower door was open as was the washer door. The washer was prepped and ready to go once I was done with my shower and redressed.
When I got in to the nursery I only had my car keys and the cash (yes, cash) in hand. I made my selections and placed them directly in the cardboard boxes the nursery provides for carryout. It was good to see the few like-minded individuals were keeping safe distances from each other and if any one noticed someone in an isle they just went down an empty one. Note most of this nursery is outside and the indoor section is actually open-air for the most part.
The nursery created a 6-foot barrier between the cashier and the customer. Customers used a wrapped pallet of soil as a table and showed the cashier what they were buying to be rung up. The card reader was on the "table" so the customer could complete their own transaction. I felt so incredibly guilty bringing in cash (Lanette I think our cash days are over) I actually apologized. The cashier was cool with it and said no worries - I have sanitizer.
I cleaned up prior to getting in the car. I wiped down the car handle, keys, hands and arms. The little bit of change I had (it was an even $17 bill) was in my shorts' pocket - I am now going to be laundering cash - LOL. While I was driving home I was thinking about that darn McDonald's commercial advertising the new Big Mac sizes and thought well I have enough in my calorie budge for the day to try a mini Mac. I made the trip through the drive through and came home.
Now I am officially home and realize I have to get undressed and showered prior to eating. I must also place this darn fast food bag far enough away from the door while I get undressed. I then realize I have a t-shirt on and it has to be pulled over my head which in my mind is effectively wiping all possible germs all over my face! WTH!!! Geez, I can really over think things. So what to do? I pulled my arms out of my shirt turned the shirt around and instead of pulling it over my head I slipped my head out of the shirt - whew!! I then followed through with the rest of my plan - worked fine enough.
So what did I learned today?- Businesses are adjusting and thinking of their employees and customers and are doing a damn fine job of it.
- Gen pop is also adjusting. We are all learning to be nice while keeping a social distance.
- I must wear button down or wide-necked shirts prior to going to a public place.
- My habit of picking something up to eat and immediately enjoying at home is a temporary thing of the past which may last forever.
- Fast food still tastes horrible when it is cold.
- My public outing plan works. It needs a little fine tuning.
- This is tiresome business. Lots of planning and cleaning.
- I can do a heck of a lot during a lunch hour. Note here - I may take a lunch hour once every three months or so. I would rather work through lunch than stay in the office one hour longer.
If you have read all of this and I have disappointed you in the time waste - please accept my apologies. I think doing this solo has made me lean on this group more than most. For your patience and support I am very thankful.
Hugs to all and prayers to those in need.10 -

Barbie I got thinking maybe for those of us who find writing about COVID-19 theraputic an find info shared valuable we could go back to the Feb chat group and chat there. That would free up this month for a COVID free zone. I would actually like this because It is important to get mind off of it too. I do believe that was what Rebecca was trying to say. If we do this I think she and Mary would return. If someone forgets we just remind and they can cut and paste their remarks to February. I know we can do the spoiler route too but then we are mentioning COVID 19 and that defeats the purpose. I know I would post in both. Thanks for thinking about it. I miss them and others that are taking a break from our group. Those two stand out in my mind the most becasue of their comments.2
