SUNDAY UPDATE - Pastor Vincent vs Boston!
For those new/or with short memories I recently hired a coach to help me run faster - with the goal of a BQ in 2021. It is probably an unrealistic goal, but I am not getting any younger, so going for it. Several people asked to be updated on what the coach has in for me so I post each week what the coach's plan was, and what I actually did.
So here we go:
DAY :::: PLAN :::: ACTUAL
Monday :::: 8 miles :::: Rest day - hurt ankle
Tuesday :::: Rest Day ::::: Rest Day
Wednesday :::: 10 miles :::: Missed - was making masks
Thursday :::: 8 :::: Ran out of time
Friday :::: Rest Day ::::: 1 hr Cross Train
Saturday ::::: 14 miles :::: Rest Day - generator failure
Sunday ::::: 6 miles ::::: 6 miles
Total Miles: 16 out of 46 planned
So this week was a complete and total failure. Yay me!
Missing Monday was planned the entire rest of the week was crash and burn. On Wednesday I though making masks would be quick and easy. Yeah. No. I really had started them on Tuesday, so it really took TWO days to make 6 masks. Way too ambitious of a design and plan. This meant the lesson I needed for my Thursday class did not get written on Tuesday/Wednesday as normal and I hat to write it on Thursday missing the run.
Then on Saturday when the weather was nice and I could have saved the week, or at least reduced the failure we could not get our generator running. We had pulled it out just to clean it and get it ready for the big storms this weekend but after four hours we still have not figured out what is wrong with it.
Today it was 70 degrees and a bit windy but not bad. So I was like, heck with it just do like 30k or something. Well started off great and then the sky turned into completely unpredicted icy rain. I was in a singlet and shorts. Still planned to run through it hoping it would just be a popup shower and it would warm back up, but then my GI track picked THAT moment to tell me the gamble I took on the food I had eaten (a different brand than normal) was a bad bet. Yay.
So, this was a cut back week. I guess I just overachieved.8 -
@skippygirlsmom We’re under a storm warning too, hope everyone stays safe!
Happy Easter everyone!
My husband and I drove down to the little bit of woods near us - it’s about two miles away - so we wouldn’t have to run roads in trail shoes. Just us there, although there was a family playing with scooters in the parking lot. My observation of tracks in the area suggests that no other runners ever come through there, just one bicycle and a four-wheeler and a bunch of deer and raccoons. The squirrels and geese were acting very offended as if they aren’t used to people.
We can get about a two mile loop out of it if we run all over the place, which isn’t really enough to be satisfying but is so much better than not getting to run trails at all! I’m not sure everything we ran was supposed to be a trail, but hey, whatever works.
It was too dark to see well before we finished.
Afterwards we drove back home, changed shoes, and went out for four miles on roads.
This tangle of branches looked very forbidding in the dim light.
We headed up one trail and oops, giant house! If you lived here you’d be home now! There are about three of these big houses backing on to the park with their own private park entrances.
Spotted on our road run. Happy Easter, wash your hands!10 -

Happy Easter to all who celebrate!
Today was a beautiful day and I ran 10 miles. We had rain last night but this morning was just lovely. It was about 62°F when I started out and sunny with clear blue skies. I was starting to get a little warm at the end as it was close to 70°F by then, but it was never too hot. Plus it is supposed to be in the high 30's for my weekday runs so I wasn't going to complain. I got home and my husband cooked some nice ribeyes for us. I can't make my pan pizza that I usually make for Sunday after my long run since I am out of yeast and there is none in the stores. But the steaks were excellent and it was nice to kind of have a holiday meal even if we couldn't have our usual family gathering this year.

5/16/20: Run for 57th AHC Half Marathon 🤞6 -
@juliet3455 You are so good to take treats to your friend. I think the car parking is really funny.
Looks like a nice place for a shortish run @rheddmobile . Way to get your running done!2 -
@juliet3455 I find the same thing about parking - people space out the cars too these days. How nice to visit your friend - plus a weighted backpack of libations is a terrific workout idea!
@teresa502 good job on nearly being done with your marathon for the week already.
@rheddmobile looks like you find a nice place to run without a crowd.

I took Stella for a nice long hike this morning. We walked over to a park that is not too far from me but I've never been there because I always thought it was closed. Turns out there is a trail around what looks like a locked gate. There are tons of trails back there for mountain biking and they are pretty cool. Lots of twists and turns and ups and downs. We walked around about .5 miles of trails total and I didn't see all of it, so it's not huge but there's a fair amount of trails in there. I might try running there soon for a little bit of trail running that's not so difficult footing-wise but has a little bit of hilliness and interest to it. I only saw one person when I got there, and no bikes at all. Not sure if it was just because it was Easter but I'm curious how used it is.
I relaxed for most of the day and then still needed to get my run done. I finally went out at about 5 pm and just ran from my neighborhood out and back. It was around 60 degrees but all day seemed chillier than the actual temps. I was happy the sun peeked out a bit while I was running though and of course I was plenty warm once I started.
I'm at 21.5 miles for this week's marathon a week challenge, so just need 4.7 miles over the next two days. Tomorrow's weather looks to be crappy with rain and high winds so I'm not looking forward to that, but it's also the warmest day of the week and then we're back to 40s for a while.

Thanks @quilteryoyo she isn’t complaining so I guess she’s good.
@rheddmobile and @quilteryoyo It’s been storming on and off all day, thundering as I type but it appears the worst is going to go South of us. Prayers for the folks of Monroe, LA and Mississippi.
@Avidkeo don’t worry about one slip up with the chocolate, sometimes we need to just say give me this indulgence for 5 minutes and I’ll get back on it. I do the same when I have one of those days, I maybe cut back 100 calories off each day for the next week and it averages out

I talked dh into a walk today. It was a nice walk, then started to rain a bit but was light. Then it wasn’t light. Then there was lightening. So I figured it was a good time to try to run back, we were more than 2 miles from the truck. Normally 2 miles is an hours walk for me, so you can see how “running” was a viable solution. If I was lucky, we’d make it back in maybe 30-40 minutes.
I haven’t been running. Walking is still a chore. I ran back off and on, dh chiming in “you better stop, you’re gonna hurt yourself”, miles and minutes seemingly tick by and I’m doing okay after working the kinks out, shoulder isn’t to bad, knee shuts up, I figure out my new gait, I’m a rock star. So I’m thinking, “I might add up the time I ran, I bet it’s a least a mile”. 2+3+2... huh, that can’t be right... i ran least a mile... 7 minutes? Well, I ran almost a half mile. Ok maybe a third of a mile. My legs feel like I ran 10. I’m enjoying it.15 -

Allergies kept me up half the night and I was thinking about just staying in bed when I woke up at 5:30, but I glanced at the air quality forecast and it won't be clear again until Thursday. Well, then I would need a run today anyway, or I'd be miserable for most of the week. Run it would be. Went for an easy 5km that started out slow and sluggish and ended slightly less so. Garmin gave me a +2 performance index for some reason.I talked dh into a walk today. It was a nice walk, then started to rain a bit but was light. Then it wasn’t light. Then there was lightening. Just happy to hear you are running whatever the distance!2 -
Interestingly, after my mammoth skipping session (thanks for the kind words - I can’t really believe I did 45 minutes either) the muscles that are suffering the most are not my calves as I feared but my trapezius (shoulders/neck) from swinging the rope.
I went for a long run yesterday (my hip is much improved) but it was hard work - legs were like lead and had absolutely no bounce. Rest day today so am hoping to be fully recovered for tomorrow’s run.
I’ve just made millionaire’s slice to help with the recovery 😂. Pic in spoiler:

I found a hundred reasons not to go out for a run this morning. But I only needed one - sheer stubbornness - to make me go! The weather has definitely turned. Cold and blustery and I covered up with a light jacket for the first time in ages. But on a positive note I barely saw a soul and was able to stop at an almost empty and quite well-stocked grocery store on my way back. Dropped the stuff at home and then went back out for a last run round the block because (stubborn) I wanted at least 3.5 miles!
@ContraryMaryMary that millionaire’s slice looks amazing. Enjoy!
@elise4270 - well done! It’s such a joyous feeling realising your body can get back to it.
Hope everyone is well and staying safe. X

Ugh, I am so sleepy this morning! We had storms last night, and I only ended up sleeping about 1.5 hours. We had to cram into our half bath downstairs for awhile, but fortunately, it doesn’t appear we had any damage at our house. A few stores near me though were damaged badly, and I know there was one big tornado in a nearby town, but no one has been able to really analyze the damage yet since it is still dark. Hopefully, the roads to work aren’t blocked this morning. I doubt I will feel like any exercise tonight.6

ran friday night and that was it.
slept pretty much the whole weekend. yay hypersomnia.
the run felt good. Speed Demon lived up to her name.
Yesterday, i spent some time researching what trails were open. I'm hoping to get out a bit more now that i found some. ticks are in full swing already so i'll need to find my bug spray
for the wisconsin peeps, here is a partial list of what is still open. I was going to check out horicon marsh but i'm assuming it will be busy now. seven bridges was insane before the state parks closed. Ice Age Trail state parks are closed but if you can hit up a different trail head, you are allowed to use them according to the dnr7 -
Thought I typed a post after my run this morning, but can't see it.
Did a fartlek run on the treadmill. Actually quite enjoyed it. Hal said I was a good girl afterwards.
@ContraryMaryMary omgoodness I want a slice of that!
@quilteryoyo I too have toyed with the idea of ditching the Galloway method many a time in recent months. My aerobic capacity/fitness level is well capable of just running. My poor grumpy old injury-prone legs however are not, and they quickly remind me of the fact if I run more than 1km without my tiny walk breaks. So in my case it's a real case of if it ain't broke, don't fix it and if you found a way to avoid it breaking, don't change it :-)

Glad you are safe. We're under a wind advisory until 5:00 this evening and have some flooded roads.1 -
@ContraryMaryMary I need some of that to help with my recovery! Looks delicious! Glad your legs weren't horrible after the skipping! I wouldn't have been able to walk. Way to hang in there and get your run completed!
@Elise4270 Yeah on being able to run!

So much snow yesterday! I didn't mind it so much during my run (except for a couple stretches where the icy snow was beating hard against my face and I justified it as some free microdermabrasion), but it froze overnight so this mornings short run was very precarious. The sun is out now and I'm hoping it will all melt for a smoother run tomorrow.

Well I couldn't help myself so I signed up for some virtual "I just kept running," Forest Gump themed half marathon. I think they're actually going to count the time and there is a medal that looks like Forest Gump. It's on my top five favorite movies. I couldn't help myself.
Dr. Appt this morning - just a follow up for endometriosis. He says he doesn't want to do another laparoscopic surgery right now because of COVID19, although he feels as though it is probably time. I got out of there without the full body exam too (no exam due to COVID19), so I basically feel like I won the lottery. Also, I guess my insurance changed - my copay was $35. Six months ago, I had to pay the whole stupid thing out of pocket and it was almost $200. I figured that with the money I saved, I could go a little extra for myself on the Forest Gump race.
The theme this week for the Run the Edge, Uncanceled Project is humor. And tonight's fireside chat guest is none other than Courtney Dewaulter. Could not be more stoked.
I haven't been consistent with running through the week and I should be, but I am so trying to rest and heal as much as I can. Today, the pain is in my knee. I'm sure it's all IT Band related, but still. I really need to heal. The kettlebell I ordered to continue to work on my glutes and core has still not arrived and there is no estimated delivery date as of now...
The kids had a great Easter. So did I. I was so full of gratitude that we still have joy in our home. We are so incredibly fortunate and we'd be wise to not forget it.
Just five and a half hours left in this day and I am concerned that if the phone doesn't start ringing then they may decide to close the office. We really need that to not happen. Come on, phone, ring!
@PastorVincent I meant to say this last night when I read your post - but I think that all your successes have given you some flexibility for weeks like the one you just had. You are such a strong runner and you are so consistent that when life does happen, I don't think it will hurt you at all.
Anyway, I hope you are all having a great day - and I hope that we'll see the end of this virus soon.
