Hi Gals,
I admit I would love things to open up a bit, but have to say until I see that California is on a true sustained downward trend, I will happily garden tons, social distance, wear a mask… etc.. Actually my county as of today is requiring masks inside every essential service building, and even when outside in public spaces (ie walking the dog). While I have friends that think it's absurd I know and love too many folks with multiple issues that I want them to be safe. At this point I am very grateful to personally only know one person to be confirmed with Covid19 and they recovered quickly.
Flea – that is priceless but living all by himself for a few more weeks may mean he has years ahead to be a grandpa.

Kim - I am still working but spending my home time reading my Mom’s diaries.
I just posted this on Facebook and thought I would share it here. My trip down memory lane is really lightening my mood.
I have learned that if I was my daughter I never would have lived past 14.
Friday May 31st 1985 - Mom’s diary
Tracey called, I had to go pick her up at the doctor’s. He said her ankle isn’t broken, but if it’s still bothering her he’ll order an X-ray.
Mom goes about her day, does laundry, visited some people, stopped at the school to pick Cheryle (my BFF since grade 2) up to come out.
Then....Tracey went to the teen dance tonight.
She did mention I didn’t stay and they had to pick me up. Here are my observations:
If I couldn’t go to school, why was I allowed to go to a teen dance?
If I had a sprained ankle, why would I think dancing was a good idea?
How did Mom and Dad ever pay for all of the gas they burned driving me, my friends, Harley (my brother)and his friends everywhere?
Also, I wonder if Dad ever knew how many people learned to drive on their car by Mom. My Mom was not the best driver, she was easily distracted, sped and was indecisive, not the best teacher.

I primarily stay home and walk in my neighborhood or work in my yard. For my rare trips to the store or post office in the last five weeks, I haven't worn a mask and have found that a lot of other people aren't wearing masks either. However, there has been a recent push in my state to ask people to wear masks in any business place. I don't have a mask which is why I was so amazed that my step daughter made masks for so many people but not for us. Jake ordered masks from Amazon and they will get here between May 3-21. This morning my walking friend told me that she has a bunch of disposable masks and she gave me some to use so I can go to the post office, grocery store, and Costco in the next week or two.
I live in NW Washington State where the weather allows me to walk every day with my dogs. Indoors I ride my recumbent exercise bike while watching TV or listening to podcasts or audio books. Since I can't go to my regular line dance classes, I have been dancing a few mornings a week in the house. I work in my yard most days mostly pulling weeds. I keep in touch with friends and with all of you on my computer.
I love to read and have a book that I read at bedtime and in the bathroom and another that I read on the Kindle app on my phone in the dark after I take the dogs out for their midnight walk. From time to time I listen to an audio book while walking the dogs or working in the yard.
My source for books has been the library and since that is closed now, I get books through paperbackswap.com or e books and audio books from my library.
I recently cut my own bangs so I can see where I'm going.

I bought about a dozen books just before everything shut down. I've got a decent collection of books anyway, but have read all/most of them. I don't mind re-reading but figured I might as well add some new ones to the collection.
All were from used places and were between $1 and $3 each.

Hello Newcomers!
I am located on Whidbey island in Washington state. Its about 10 miles wide and 37 miles long. We have one lone elk that swam over from the mainland. He has been here for years and seems to like the bachelor lifestyle. Except when its rutting season, and he's a bit cranky.
Husband and I are roommate's with our active duty son. We have only been in island since 2018.
Husband is military retired.. We just fiddle fart around life.
I have 20+ pen pals I write to. I need to buy more washi tape and stickers, and stamps! I love doing puzzles, reading paranormal novels, and watching old movies with husband. We have been married almost 36 years.
My favorite activities is working out at the gym with husband, ( which we can't do anymore)! I miss walking around the old town of our city. I love paling around with 30 yr son! We have a married 25 yr old son, and their almost 1 yr old daughter is the Apple of our eye. Our youngest son is 21, active duty and overseas. I whine on here because I miss him. But I then uber spoil our eldest, so life is blessed.

What takes up most of your day?
I am a college administrator at a small, private, faith-based university. I am currently working from home, most days, although I usually go into my office one day a week. This week has been unusual. I have been in each day this week. Monday -- all day, but Tuesday just a couple hours, and today, about 30 minutes. Fortunately, very few other people are around.
I am Zoomed out!

Barbie it was something like you know you aren’t really hungry if you won’t eat an apple. That wasn’t it but that was the sense.
Heather what can you share about Mr. Dyson that causes you to boycott his products? Hip hip hooray for the refund! Is your tablet Windows, iOS or ???
Terri gorgeous garden!
Karen in VA that snowy view from the Illinois window. Wow! Virtual haircutting lesson, brilliant!
SuziQ could you contact Dave and pay in advance for your haircut or two? Wouldn’t hurt you to get ahead and might help tide him over? Oh I see Lisa and others already suggested.
Pip 5 days in a row >14 mph. Wowser!
Machka I want to snuggle Rhody and kiss those little toes. “the only one” prepared to discuss assignment 4, no wonder you dislike group assignments. “If you’re not hungry enough to eat an apple, you’re not really hungry, you’re just bored.” Yes that was it! Thanks!
Lanette yes the small clear plastic drum in the handle is the dust receptacle. It’s small but very easy to dump, you hold the works over the trash basket, lift a lever and the whole thing moves up a little while the bottom swings down like a door. Pop the top back down, tap the bottom back up and Bob’s your uncle. Unlike Heather’s model, my (and Tumble’s) long hair just lifts off the roller after every use.
Lisa  Does anything help the nausea? Flat ginger ale? Ice chips?
Michele those yoghurt pops sound like delicious healthy orange creamsicles.

Pam in Louisiana con VERY grats on the great checkup and 16 lbs discarded. Pearl’s delusion that she can fit in Zoie’s bed made me laugh. Thanks!
Rebecca every time I see one of your Athena Rose pics, I go “Oh!” The washing machine video didn’t work for me either, even when I logged into my Amazon account.
Betsy sending your hairdresser a pic of your self-cut, priceless!
Flea great grandpa video. Looking forward more info on Gov Brown’s phase in plans. IMHO first to be restored should be medical, therapeutic massage and chiropractic appointments and elective hospital procedures. Our rural hospital had to furlough, lay off or reduce hours of 192 staff. Then it would seem to me that family members not at risk should be allowed to visit each other. As for non-related group gatherings (including exercise and dance classes, church, restaurants and bars) well, I’m willing to forego those for the long run.

For the new comers, I’m Barbara the ageing hippie, mother of dogs on the Southern Oregon Coast.
I love to read, line dance, play in the dirt, walk in the woods or on the beach with Joe and the dogs, and goof off on the computer.
Most of my day is spent on the above, and cooking/food prep. I loathe vacuuming and struggle to make myself clean, tidy and declutter.
Now it’s your turn, tell us about you!

Flea - love the video. Almost made my eyes wet. I hope to Zoom the kids late this morning and wave at them through the window this afternoon when we take the brownies over. It would be nice to stand at the end of the front garden path and chat at the door, but I'm not sure Bea would be able to cope.
Our government health adviser is talking about next year, or when we have a vaccine, for social distancing to be back to normal. Older people, or the health compromised, will not be hugging their grandchildren any time in the near future, especially if the kids are allowed back to school. The safest time to see them, at a distance, will be before they go back. I have always said we are all going to get it. Vaccine research appears to be progressing, but it's a long haul.
I very, very much want to touch and hug my grandchildren and I am not normally a touchy granny. DH is the one they sit on and climb on.
I live in beautiful Brighton and Hove, by the sea, in the south of England. We moved here 18 months ago for a change of lifestyle and to be near the grandchildren. The vibrant city , with its restaurants, bars, coffee shops, theatres, and myriad attractions will have taken a huge economic hit. I am fearful for many people's livelihoods including my son's.
At least the sea is still here.
My activities are many and varied and I am never bored. I am a published author of children's books and other works. I am writing, but not as much as I could. I am currently working on my second volume of my memoir. I exercise like a demon every morning with my DH. I run by the sea and go to dancing classes and singing groups and read huge numbers of books, mainly non fiction. My other passion is cruising. I adore my grandchildren and my friends, who I love to meet up with for lunch.
A great deal of my life is lived in my imagination, so the restrictions don't confine me as much as some others. I still exercise, write, read, watch great tv, cook delicious food, drink great wine, see the sea, write, zoom, and phone my friends and family. I lived the cruise I didn't have through my imagination. I'm still, the prime minister in my head, reorganizing the country and solving the crisis.. I'm reading a book about the immune system. I am busy!
Looking forward to my food delivery tonight!

We had a grocery delivery yesterday and one of the things I ordered was popcorn!! I got a craving! I might have some this evening or maybe wait till the weekend.
I've seen that grocery delivery here should be back to normal, or mostly back to normal. I had done one large order just before things shut down, and then I've topped up since, so we've got quite a bit of variety. And I'm trying to limit my daytime snacking mainly to apples and carrots.

Karen in VA and Okie, I have a recliner, a daybed and a swivel rocker in my living room. The bench at my kitchen table has cushions, and we use towels there too, and an apron if cooking. I keep fresh hand towels for myself, and in normal times for visitors in a basket near the front door so if a guest forgot to bring their own there’s always a fresh one handy. The first rule of nudism is to always sit on your towel. Most of us carry around outdoors a larger towel as well as what we refer to here as a “butt mat” for putting on our chairs, benches, etc. We often just carry a tote around with us with a book, iPad, earphones, suntan lotion, small towel, t-shirt if our shoulders need some protection from the sun, or a sarong or something, lip balm, and shampoo if we’d be going in the pool, which isn’t happening right now. Everything is closed. That way residents don’t have more rights than members who come up for the day. The gate is locked all day right now. Deliveries are the only thing allowed in.
We have filled soap dispensers by the showers, and if we need a back-scrubber that comes too. Clippers, tweezers, nail files, etc. all go down with us if we’re showering there instead of at home. Sunglasses and a scarf or hat complete the ensemble.
Since a soap shower is required before entering hot tub, pool or sauna it’s usually easier in summer to do basic grooming down there. Things like shaving happen at home or in the showers up at the bathrooms. The outdoor showers are where most of us go before a swim. There’s a nice high fence backing the outdoor showers so tricky breezes don’t give goose-bumps. It’s really pretty idyllic here. Somehow I’ve missed that particular Sedaris book. I’ll have to watch for it when Half-Price Books reopens. 🥰
Speaking of books, I was delighted to see my old friend “The Good Earth” appear above. Pearl Buck left me with a longing to see a China that is no longer. I recall several of her other books. “Peony”, which dealt in part with the Jewish community in pre-revolution China, “Sons”, “A House Divided”. I read her books indiscriminately as I found them in libraries or friends’ homes. They were very popular after her success with “The Good Earth”!
Heather, it hasn’t changed a bit, as far as I can tell, from when we were young. Young women are superficially wiser, but in applying that knowledge to their personal situation and recognizing the SOBs for what they are, I see little change.
Rebecca, i could have sworn Athena was going “Ba! Ba! Ba!” as in bath at one point while watching the washer perform.
I am Sharon, from Issaquah, a town about 17 miles east of Seattle. I’m 77, and a tax preparer/retired truck driver. I love travel, including road trips as well as farther afield. I am staff to two cat princesses and a few fish. I spend much of my days listening to books on Roman and Greek classical history and mythology, I crochet, and as you can see I natter in here a great deal. I’m beginning to miss socializing. I was just beginning to take notice of gents again since my husband fiend 7 years ago. Oh well! The “best planned lays”, as he would have said. “go oft a-gley!”

I live in York City UK it's usually full of tourists at this time of year, but the city centre is a bit like a ghost town, I must admit I've not been into town since early February. It's a beautiful city famous for The Minster, the Bar Walls and The Shambles - a very old street with overhanging timber framed buildings dating back to the 14th Century.
What are some of your favourite hobbies/sports/activities?
Walking the dog, reading, watching TV - I'm not very sporty, walking is about the most energetic I get. I'd love to learn more about flowers/plants for the garden, I have a few pots at the front, but I'm not so good with potted flowers, they tend to die on me.
What takes up most of your day?
Looking after my mum takes up a lot of my time, I have noticed lately she needs help as she is not physically able to do some of the housework now. I'm sure I've mentioned it before, but helping her declutter I realise where I get my hoarding tendencies from, she will not throw anything out! We found one ear ring but she was holding on to it "just in case she found the matching one" broken radios, no can't throw out, buttons no might come in handy (she can't see well enough to sew), piece of scrap paper - well go on then. I hope I am not quite that bad, although you'd better ask my daughter for her opinion
Still can't get a delivery from either Asda or Tesco, all slots are fully booked until middle of May. Looks like we'll be going shopping again tomorrow for a few essentials.
Love to all

Sort of like the spas in Japan!
I think I might have mentioned this here before, but when we were in Japan in 2012, we decided to check out the Yunominoyu Hotspring Spa because we were camping right next door to it.
I had never been to a Japanese spa before so I didn't really know what I was doing, but an elderly Japanese lady who didn't speak much English guided me through the whole process!

Hello everyone.
Thank you all for the feedback. Some thoughts here.
Although I would love to prepay David by doing so he would only come up short when things get rolling again. Also, all salons take a cut of the services rendered because most stylists are actually "renting" space from the salon. Yes, I could just pay for a cut but due to my financial situation I really cannot pay for things for which I do not receive some type of benefit.
So, I decided I will go out to the grocery store, buy a gift card and send it to him. If this continues through May I will send another one. Yes, it will end up probably costing the same as paying for something I will not receive, but my heart tells me to assist in some way.
Testing is starting to open up a little here but quite honestly I do not need to know if I have or do not have. I would prefer to receive an antibody test which would at least let me know if I have been exposed. When all of this was going down I had what I thought was sinusitis but who knows....I could have been exposed and that was how covid-19 presented.
Hugs to all.

Welcome all who are new here.
I am SuziQ and I reside in Southern Florida in Broward County. I spend the working week as a data analyst for the operations team of a large national reseller of technology and computer equipment. I enjoy working although am certainly looking forward to the time when I can say bye bye to the corporate world.
I love to read, garden, spend time outside, cook and bake, swim, mentor, learn new things, study people, travel by car, volunteer and a host of other stuff. I try to keep myself open and not fit in to any one category or box. I find it's too limiting.
Work takes up most of my time for the foreseeable future. My current plan is to retire as soon as possible which would be 62. It is giving me something to look forward to when I start to think, OMG will this every end! LOL. In all seriousness I will probably work longer, but really needed a paradigm shift about 8 months ago when I was feeling like my working life would never end.3 -
Yes, yet another post.
For what am I grateful for in this moment.- I awakened to another beautiful day.
- My beautiful garden which provides so much peace and comfort.
- Central air which has been heavily used the past two weeks when the temperatures were hitting will over 95 degrees.
- My strength which was instilled in me by my mother. It was one of the greatest gifts she gave me.
Hugs to all and prayers to those in need.

Good Thursday
I am so far behind.....I feel selfish for posting when not staying caught up....
My MIL, Pat, had refused any treatment on Tuesday night. As of yesterday morning, the hospice worker was able to get her to start blood thinner and pain meds. Pat has been moved to the hospice center to try to get her symptoms under control and get her home prepared for her to come home. The end is closer than further. The hospice worker told us that her comfort is more important than food or water. I didn't hear from my SIL last night after she visited her. We are going after work today, if my husband will go......he is so freaked out.
As for me, I have my moments.....I did declutter the house last night as I know that was adding to my stress. I need to pay my taxes this morning and some work paperwork before work. I am okay. Trying to keep people in the loop is tiring. I need to focus on water. My intake has sucked the last two weeks. Eating yesterday wasn't hateful but a lot of calories. I am sure not enough carbs. My concentration there is staying away from the cookies and candy. Water will help.
Thank you for all of your supportive thoughts and prayers. I love all the support! It makes things easier.
Time to get a few necessities done before work.
I am grateful for every one of you thoughtful, strong, and caring women!
❤

Hello to the new ones here on the thread! We're glad you're here.
Where are you located (approximately)?
Arkansas, USA, in the foothills of the Boston Mountains (part of the Ozarks), and near the western border of the state. Very rural.
What are some of your favourite hobbies/sports/activities?
I write, quilt, paint, crochet and help rehab the mid-century stone house my husband and I live in. He's the gardener, as well.
What takes up most of your day?
I worked remotely before the pandemic, and still do, as a grant writer for the Girl Scout council in this region.
In the spoiler, a set of questions I was interviewed for at work, as they're "introducing" a staff member every week while we're all working remotely. Whether you're an old hat or a new chum, please feel free to take any or all of the questions, erase my answers, and answer them for yourself.1. Where are you from originally?
I was raised from the age of six in rural East Texas. I think of myself as a Texan.
2. Do you eat breakfast? If so, what did you eat today?
Yep. Old-fashioned oatmeal microwaved in vanilla almond milk. With Splenda.
3. Do you prefer to dine in, carry out, or cook at home?
We almost always eat at home, and my husband is the cook. I’m very lucky to have a husband who loves to cook and finds it relaxing. I am a stress baker though! Right now, I have all the fixings to make crack blondies sitting out on my counter.
4. Favorite Girl Scout Cookie?
Samoas. Frozen, so the caramel snaps when you bite into them. Nummy. I was not a Girl Scout growing up. A brownie was something you ate.
5. Do you listen to music when you work?
Since my job is heavily centered on writing, I can’t listen to music when I work because I’ll end up putting the words of the song into a grant.
6. What is your favorite sonic drink?
Unsweet tea. By the gallon. I drink tea all day long.
7. What is your favorite board/card game?
Scrabble, Monopoly, Risk, Trivial Pursuit, Backgammon are the top five. Pretty much any board game, honestly.
8. What is your favorite podcast?
I don’t listen to podcasts, but I do listen to NPR.
9. What is your dream sandwich?
Crispy bacon, lettuce, mayonnaise on home-made bread. No tomatoes. I loooove bacon. I would wear bacon if I could.
10. What makes you gag?
Well, tomatoes, which are pretty much just little pink wagon wheels filled with snot and seeds. Urk.
11. What are your hobbies?
I write, I quilt, I read, I crochet, I paint, I tried to learn to knit, but ended up with a snarled, sweaty ball of stress, so I gave that one up. Plus, who needs more stabby things in their lives? With all of this going on with COVID, I’ve been reading a lot more than usual.
12. What is one thing that can make your day instantly better?
Today, it was my best friend, calling from Montana, saying, “You sounded a little down yesterday. How you are holding up?” I probably talk to her about 3 or 4 times a week.
13. What was the best vacation/trip you ever took and why?
In all truth, I have enjoyed very few vacations or trips I’ve taken. Vacations with my birth family are now used as scare stories told to children. When I took PTO the second week of March, our daughter came down from Fort Riley, Kansas, with her two youngest, and stayed with us for a week. She helped me spring clean my house. Loved it. And got a clean house out of it. My idea of a good vacation is, essentially, not going anywhere.
14. If you were an animal, what animal would you be?
Probably a quokka. (See picture below) I’m certainly built like one, short, stout, bigger at the bottom than the top, and smiling all the time FOR NO REASON. And no, they don’t throw their babies at predators so they can get away, that’s internet inanity.
15. At a party, where can someone find you?
Out on the back porch, talking to another iconoclast or two. Flip on the light, we’ll scatter like rats.
Quokka
Later, ladies,

My answers to Lisa's questions: Feel free to enquire further if you like.
1. Where are you from originally?
Canada ... I'm Canadian-Australian
2. Do you eat breakfast? If so, what did you eat today?
Nope!
Eating breakfast is like flipping an "ON" switch for my appetite. If I don't eat breakfast, I probably won't eat anything till about noon and then just eat "normally" after that. If I do eat breakfast, I'm cleaning out the fridge.
And the rest ...3. Do you prefer to dine in, carry out, or cook at home?
We almost always eat at home, and my husband is the cook. I bake when I've got time ... which is almost never.
4. Favorite Girl Scout Cookie?
I've never liked Girl Scout cookies. In Canada we could get 2 or 3 kinds and they weren't appealing. However, I noticed the other day that in the US, there are more varieties.
I don't eat much in the way of cookies in general, but if I do I like:
-- McVitie's Chocolate Digestives
-- Melting Moments ... the kind the bakery in our local shop has.
-- Good homemade or homemade-style chocolate chip cookies.
5. Do you listen to music when you work?
I often have ABC Classic FM on.
https://www.abc.net.au/classic/
6. What is your favorite sonic drink?
I don't know what a sonic drink is.
7. What is your favorite board/card game?
I used to play board and card games a lot, but once my ex and I split up, that stopped. So I haven't played in something like 21 years. I'd like to play ... there's just no one to play with. So I do Mahjongg on the computer occasionally.
8. What is your favorite podcast?
I don’t listen to podcasts.
9. What is your dream sandwich?
I rarely eat sandwiches but probably grilled cheese. That's a stress/comfort food for me. I ate grilled cheese sandwiches when my husband was in the hospital, but haven't had one in about 2 years.
10. What makes you gag?
Mushrooms. Most seafood. Meat, unless it is so well cooked some might call it burnt.

Machka, sorry - Sonic is an eat-in-your-car burger and shake joint that can be found in 44 of the 50 US states, with carhops who bring food and/or drinks to your car:
And I LOVE McVities digestives with chocolate... they remind me of all the years spent in England. They're just starting to show up in most big grocery stores in the U.S.

This is what sprang to mind when I read "Sonic". Sonic the hedgehog!
I've never heard of a burger place called Sonic. We don't have a lot of fast food places here, but as far as drinks go, I start my day with water and black coffee, then move to decaf tea and some version of diet coke in the evenings.
In fact, it's time for one of my teas.
I almost always have a packet of McVities in my cupboard. It was one of the first things I grabbed when I was stocking up a bit for the shutdown. I'll have a couple of them maybe a couple nights a week ... so not a lot, but I do like to have them there when I want them.

Hi.
I am Annie from Delaware. I live with my parents in a typical suburban development. I read and meditate and waste time online.
I am retired after a long and varied professional life. I served in the Air Force as an intelligence officer, I was a computer programmer, and then a patent examiner. Now I am writing a novel, but I'm taking a break from it.
I am divorced, and spend time on online dating. I met some good friends that way. I spend a lot of time listening to my parents. They are in great health but that won't last forever.
I weigh about 165, and use CiCo. I'm usually very strict and dedicated at least until 2:00. Then I fight sugar cravings. I do calisthenics and dumbbells 3x a week, and I used to hit the gym but that's closed. I keep meaning to start walking but don't actually put my shoes on.
I lead a slow contemplative life, especially now. I do knit some.
