Machka, I didn't know what a Sonic drink was when I read the quiz. After Lisa explained it, I realized that I had heard of the restaurant but had never been there.
Kylia, sending hugs to you.
Going back to an older question of what is your fondest desire (or something like that), years ago when I was working, it looked like the road from my house to the main street might be flooded over and impassable and I wondered how long I could be stranded at home before it stopped being fun. Now I'm getting to find out.
Now that I have face masks, I've figured out that I can probably wait to go to a store again until next week. This morning I told Jake that he should drive the car around the block or something since it hasn't gone anywhere in 8 days and probably won't go out again for awhile.

Lisa - I will do your quiz later.
Had a fabulous day so far. Exercised, wrote, , then Zoomed Edie and Max and their answers to DH's tests. They said they want to do all his tests and not the school ones. We were both amazed at how much Edie's reading has come on in a few months. She can now read quite hard stuff with ease. Before she was spelling words out phonetically. DH is now composing some new sheets for them.
Then I cut the brownies into 16 and DH carried them over to my son's while I ran beside him. A good 5k there and back. It is very warm out. We enjoyed chatting through the window and it was great to talk to Bea as we've seen less of her.
On the way home we bought spinach and found the bakery was selling flour in paper bags. I bought 1kg plain bread flour and 1kg wholemeal. Plus a lovely big seeded loaf.
Now relaxing. About to have a brownie. That will be all the calories I have just burnt off by running 5k! Dinner is ragu from the freezer with baked sweet potato and roasted cauliflower. Parmesan.
Stewed plums and homemade yogurt.
Then I wait for my delivery. :drinker:

But when I hopped in the van and started it up, I knew something was terribly wrong. It idled very roughly in park and neutral ... and when I shifted into drive or reverse, it died. Fantastic.
The van story so far ...
About a month ago, I pulled up to the fuel tank at a local service station behind a vehicle. He had driven there just fine but was having an awful time getting into gear to drive away. It would die on him when shifted into drive or reverse.
Then I pulled up and we topped up with about a quarter of a tank of fuel.
About 20 km later, the van started idling really roughly at intersections, like it was about to stall, and dropping power when I accelerated.
We took it to the shop where they confirmed that cylinders were miss firing. They replaced the spark plugs and checked some coils etc. and it seemed to run some better although the last couple times we were out, it was just a bit rough again.
Our last drive was last week ... maybe Thursday or Friday.
Now we're down to a quarter of a tank and I thought I might fill up on the trip back from getting our flu shots ... but I couldn't get the van out of the driveway!
The van has been towed to the shop. I hope they can figure it out.
Their first suggestion was to get a jerry can of high octane fuel and put that in to see if it helped. But the logistics of that were challenging.
We do have another van, but ... something went badly wrong with it about 6 months before my husband's accident and that's why we got the "new" van. I'm not sure what went wrong. I may have been told but that's 2.5 chaotic years ago. But I do know it was bad enough we got another van.
My husband thinks he remembers what went wrong and without much effort at all thinks he has fixed it. The trouble is, the problem he is telling me he fixed is a problem of some time ago ... not 6 months before his accident. Maybe it's the same problem again, but maybe not. His memory is so patchy it's hard to know!! He remembers things from a long time ago much better than closer to his accident.
He has been starting the van and letting it run quite regularly. And I have driven it once about a year ago. It was OK then, so maybe it would be OK. But I'm apprehensive about driving it ... I'm just not confident.
So the idea of using that van to get a jerry can of fuel for the "good" van wasn't something I was thrilled about.
I know motor vehicles can be convenient sometimes, but they can also be pains.
I had many lovely, stress-free years without one and a hope of mine is that one day we'll move somewhere we don't need to use one at all or much ... somewhere where we can walk or cycle to do what we need to do.
Meanwhile, fingers crossed the problem will be solved this time, without much expense.

Did 3 Horizontal Conditioning DVD’s today which I’m going to throw out. They are Way, Way, Way too intense and too much jumping. I wound up modifying just about everything. So then I did a South Beach Supercharged DVD which I’m going to throw out because it’s much much too easy
Lisa – I found that when I read a book on the treadmill or elliptical, I seemed to go slower. Same thing with watching the TV, I get involved in the book or the TV to the point that I unconsciously slow down. So I only listen to music now.
Yea Pam!!! How big is Pearl? One of our cats is big, not fat – just big. He lays in the condo (cat toy) and even tho his back end is sticking out, he figures since he can’t see me then I can’t see him….lol
Betsy – we had two cats who caught a mouse. Then they made their paws into a sort-of ring and they batted a mouse around. When the mouse finally died, they just walked away. We called them Ouday and Cousay after Hussain Cousain’s (did I spell that right?) sons
For quite a while now I’ve had a pain in my lower back. I thought it was because I have such tight hamstrings. Now I’m wondering if it’s arthritis. I’ve heard that there’s a type of spinal arthritis. I remember my father always saying how his arthritis would flare up when it rained outside or was going to rain. Well, it’s raining here and today my back seems to be worse.
I started the decrease on the c2c blanket that I’m making. Maybe I’ll finish that today, who knows?
Vince needs to go to the post office so I got a box of things for the Salvation Army. I’m figuring we can stop there, I’ll make the donation, then we can go to the post office. Afterwards, he needs to stop at WalMart to get a prescription.
Read in the paper that there’s talk of NC opening Wednesday. I just pray it’s not too soon.
Bananas – (((HUG))). Let us know what the GP says. When do you go?
Flea – that video was wonderful, I was about to start crying – glad the video ended when it did.
We couldn’t find the packing tape gun yesterday. I know that Vince is OCD and always puts it back in the same spot, but I suspect he did something with it. He’s convinced that I threw it out because I was cleaning and throwing things out. However, he had to have had it on Sun since he sealed up the box for the Salvation Army. I didn’t do any cleaning on Monday, just my running around. On Tuesday I worked in Jess’ room and didn’t use it at all. Yesterday I worked in Denise’s room and didn’t use it at all. I had no reason to use it. If anything, I needed the scissors to open boxes
Heather – how wonderful you got your refund, just sorry it took so long
Barbara – my kids always loved those orange pops. They are high in calcium, high in protein, low in sugar and best of all cheap. I did find that orange seems to be the only decent flavor. I tried grape juice, apple juice and some others, and they weren’t that good. I did find that if I make my own yogurt, I can let it drain longer than the kind you get at the store, which makes them even higher in protein. I just wonder how economical they are if you make the yogurt yourself. Probably comes out to about a wash when you buy the yogurt at the store
Viv – I’m sure you do this, many times I throw something out that I know someone can’t use. Vince likes to keep a lot of things “you never know when you’ll need it”. Jess likes to save things too. She asked me for a lot of my cookbooks once. I knew that she really didn’t need them but I gave them to her anyway. Well, about a year later she was cleaning and guess what she gave me for the Salvation Army?
Kylia – what a pain to have your credit card hacked. Glad the bank and paypal were able to shut down quickly. My intake of water has been lower, too. I’m sure that’s because I’m not out and about as much and exercising

Good Morning All
Where are you located (approximately)?
I am located in small town outside of Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
What are some of your favourite hobbies/sports/activities?
I love to read historical romances. I know it's kind of nonsense, but I need to read something stress free to help me to not focus on the pandemic of today. I do keep up with the goings on in the USA, but I don't want to harp on it ALL DAY. I'd be a basket case if I did. I do Yoga every morning and walk throughout the day. .
What takes up most of your day?
I continue to work every other day for a major advertising company. I am the corporate receptionist. Who knew folks are still wanting to rent billboards and do bus advertising. 🤔😊 Days I'm not working I do the normal household tasks, and of course reading. 😁
I am excited to start this journey. I am more encouraged and excited to be here. Thank you guys for allowing me to be here.
Hope you have a great day. Hope you stay safe and healthy.
Hugs,

Kim: I don’t personally know anyone who has had the virus. I’ve been looking for information for my county without luck. It was posted previously but I can’t find it today. Perhaps it will become available after county offices open for the day. :ohwell:
Barbie: Our Library is a member of Library to Go. We can check out physical books from the Library in ordinary times, plus check out books through Library to Go. The Library to Go system is managed electronically through Amazon. While we can’t go to the library in person due to COVID 19, we can still check out electronic books from Library to Go.
Rebecca: Our gym is closed due to the virus, too. I stay active by walking the dog in the neighborhood on dry days and riding a recumbent tryke that is setup on a roller system in the garage that lets me ride in place. The tryke has two front wheels and one back wheel.
Last night we had a wonderful facetime call from DS and DDIL. We also got some photos sent to us. I am planning to go out and buy a few grocery items this morning, and then ride my tryke in the garage while I read a book.

1. I was born in Welling Garden City in Hertfordshire. It was a maternity home. I was raised in North London until I was 9 and then we moved to Horsham in Sussex, not far from where I live now.
2. I eat breakfast every day and it's always the same. My husband makes it. It's homemade muesli with fresh fruits and berries on top. He always chops up a beautiful selection.
3. We don't often carry out, but when we do I like it to be something I can't easily make at home, like fish and chips, or tandoori. I love my home cooking, but I also love a good restaurant. As well as excellent food, good service is important to me. My favourite thing is a fishy lunch under a parasol with a BFF.
4. Never had a GSC and can't see why they want to make the nation even fatter.
5. Don't listen to music while I'm working, but I do sometimes like the tv or radio burbling on in the background if I'm having fear of the blank page.
6. Don't ever go to fast food places.
7. Don't like any board or card games. Or many games at all.
8. I love the BBC Radio 4 podcast - Soul Music. I listen to them while I run. The other day it was True Colours and Plaisirs d'Amour.
9. I love a good egg sandwich with cress. No mayonnaise and lots of black pepper.
10. Tins of baked beans. Anything where sour is mixed with sugar as in commercial tomato sauce.
11. Singing, dancing, reading non fiction, tv watching, exercising, running, cooking, being on this thread. For light relief I read a lot of home decoration magazines on line.
12. Doing a good stint of writing.
13. So many! All the cruises. All the amazing places I've been to all over the world. France. Everywhere! The stand out was probably the month I spent in Peru with my son and his girlfriend. Fabulous.
14. I think a cat would be the least worst option.
15. Usually hovering near the food, or on the dance floor.
That was fun!

Michele..... I wish peanut butter made me gag. I love peanut butter and I eat it on PBJ sandwiches and on celery and sometimes a spoonful just out of the jar. :-( Not good for my CICO eating plan.
Betsy in NW WA2 -
No secret to growing the celery. I just put the stump in water and left it alone! Just make sure it doesn’t run out of water. You can do that with onions, garlic, carrot tops, beet greens, leafy lettuce stumps. Pretty much anything that has a stump. Easy gardening! Lol

What takes up most of your day?

Barbara - my objections to Mr Dyson are political and personal. He is obnoxious. I feel the same about a lot of famous entrepreneurs and will not give them my money. Unfortunately I am addicted to Jeff Besos's outfit. He has just sent me an email saying that he is giving a £2 an hour pay rise to his workers because of the crisis. I think that's a good thing?

Born in Texas never have left Texas. Went from country living to city life back y forth of the years. There’s pros/cons to both.
My Day exercise,Hubby,JR,cooking,y cleaning not much time after all that.
Homeschool JR before public school will do a placement test decide kindergarten or 1st grade (Daughter did this tested 3rd grade level but I chose to hold her back to work on her ability to connect with her peers socially... plus if she couldn’t get the crayola she wanted she cried so figured a 3rd grade teacher wouldn’t appreciate that since the other kids would be distracted/ was the right decision)
Same old day for me at least no rain finally
Amber Tx3 -
Pam – do you go to a yoga class or do you do yoga DVD’s at home? If you do them at home, which ones do you like the best?

I am Katla and I live next to the Columbia River in Columbia County, Oregon with my DH and our dog. I was born in Salem Oregon and have always lived in this state.
The town where I now live is next to the Columbia River between Portland and the coast. This is where the original Halloween Town movie was filmed. October is always a month-long Halloween Town festival here. I hope the town is open for business before then. Many of the local businesses depend on the tourist dollars.
Right now, most local businesses are closed by the Governor’s orders. Grocery stores, hardware stores and gas stations are open. City offices are closed to the public although the employees are still at work. Local businesses such as the theater, restaurants, and beauty shops are closed with no known timeline to reopen. It is a huge financial burden for them.

A friend sent me a link on how a women helped her husband through COVID.
What is happening is the hospitals try to get you to do self treatment at home for as long as you can. They may not have the tests to test if you have it because of the shortages in tests.
Highlights from the article. Everyone reacts differently to virus. There is more than one strain. If you get the one with the more severe symptoms.
Fluids fluids fluids hopefully water, tea, ginger tea
Have loved one lay on there stomach not their back.
Try to have them sit up rather than lay down
Try to get them to eat something if possible. Hard because may not have and smell or taste.
Try to get them to do some walking to avoid pneumonia or exercise. Leg lifts arm swings simple ones like that.
Try to hit their back with cupped hands like they do for cystic fibrosis.
Measure oxygen levels with an oximeter. One sign you may have this is your oxygen level in your blood goes down. It can go down even when you are feeling fine. For some they don't notice this until they are in real trouble. Having this data is valuable if they do end up going to the hospital.
You can order Oxygen if it is needed.
Using a spirometer to help improve lung function.
Deep breathing exercise where your arms to your ears and breathe through your nose if possible and out through mouth while
having abdomen expand.
Things to have ready...
oximeter
spirometer
A thermometer.
Masks (for when people come to the door or you need to leave for blood draws and medical assessment).
Hand sanitizer.
Kleenex—bring a trash can near the bed, so it’s easy to dispose of used tissues.
Sanitizing wipes or spray and paper towel.
A box or basket in which you can put all your medications so you don’t misplace them. In our case that included hydroxycholroquine, azithromycin (to prevent bacterial pneumonia from developing), zinc supplements, aspirin (a regular 325 mg tablet twice a day to counter micro-emboli), and eventually prednisone (a steroid prescribed later in Mark’s illness to reduce inflammation once the virus is attacking the lung ). Have Tylenol or another acetaminophen product available to treat fever — some studies have shown that ibuprofen can exacerbate COVID and while they’re still preliminary, it makes sense to use an alternative out of caution.
A measuring cup for measuring liquids (aim for about eight 8-oz cups of liquid daily — water, tea, etc. — if kidneys and heart are functioning well) Gatorade or a similar electrolyte drink is also a good choice.
Pillows of all shapes and sizes—you’ll probably want them to help make the patient comfortable, especially on his or her stomach.
A Starbucks-type reusable cup with a top and a bendable straw. Staying hydrated is very important, and it’s easy for the patient to inadvertently tip over a cup, which is frustrating and creates unnecessary messes that can be difficult to clean, especially if someone is tired and hard to move out of bed. They also may need to be drinking while lying down, and a bendy straw makes this possible.
A notebook to record important information (more on that below).
A basket to keep cards you are receiving from friends, perhaps with stationery and a pen to write responses if you have the opportunity.
Extra sheets—night fevers and sweating may mean you want to change the sheets and you’ll want to have them ready to do so quickly when the patient is up.
In notebook keep track of meds , movement, fluids, and food intake.
I did order an oximeter today and I will see if I ordered one before they sold out.
After I finish this I will try to order a spirometer.
I hope none of us have to use the suggestions this woman had to do with her husband. I did post her story to my timeline so I would have it if I needed it.

Kelly Riemer Cusick
Kelly Riemer Cusick I've watched quite a few interesting videos in the last week from holistic doctors who are having a lot of success with their patients.
Don't have the link, but one was an interview with a specific patient who truly thought he was about to die. Four days later he was discussing his own recovery with this doctor, and obviously was profoundly grateful for the treatment protocols that he'd followed at home. I didn't take notes, but I think they mentioned high doses of Vitamin C & D, (maybe magnesium, also?) as well as NOT taking either advil or tylenol, (there was a very specific & detailed explanation of why that was important) and there was also a reference to using a nebulizer somehow.
I've also seen a video from a doctor in NYC who said the specific way this virus affects the lungs is more like altitude sickness than traditional pneumonia, and as a result, the settings for using a ventilator are very important; he was extremely concerned that this aspect of the Covid19 situation is not being noticed or considered widely enough.2 -

IMHO first to be restored should be medical, therapeutic massage and chiropractic appointments and elective hospital procedures. Our rural hospital had to furlough, lay off or reduce hours of 192 staff. Then it would seem to me that family members not at risk should be allowed to visit each other. As for non-related group gatherings (including exercise and dance classes, church, restaurants and bars) well, I’m willing to forego those for the long run.
SuziQ “bye bye to the corporate world” you are so polite! I loved the people I worked with, but had much more pungent  words for the corporate headquarters.
Kylia absolutely no need for you to catch up before posting. Please vent, cry, post, whatever you need to do to get through this so very hard time. ((hugs))
Lisa “crack brownies? You forgot to say that you are even cuter than that Quokka. My responsesMachka your answer to the party question made me snort my tea. Then I read Barbie’s and Carol's
1. Where are you from originally?
Born at San Francisco Children’s Hospital, went home to Albany with Mama and Papa at age 5 days, San Francisco, lived there ‘til nine, Ukiah ‘til eighteen, Berkeley, Piedmont, a brief stint on the Russian River near Cazadero, Oakland, San Leandro until moving at age 45 to Idaho. Still think of myself as a Berkeley Hippie.
2. Do you eat breakfast? If so, what did you eat today?
Yep. Banana smoothie, trying to use up nasty tasting pea protein (don’t say that out loud.)
3. Do you prefer to dine in, carry out, or cook at home?
I love dining in restaurants, with convivial company. Alas, Joe eats as quickly as he can (eldest of 5 with some times without enough) then wants to GO. Our eating clocks are on very different schedules, so thankful he cooks for himself.
4. Favorite Girl Scout Cookie?
Thin mints without a doubt. Feel a bit disloyal eating GS cookies, as I was a BlueBird and Camp Fire Girl. Nothing like Camp Fire Mints, miss them so.
5. Do you listen to music when you work?
“can’t listen to music when I work because I’ll end up putting the words of the song into” whatever I’m typing. Aha! So that’s why I don’t listen to music when I work! Thought it was because I’d try to dance in my chair.
6. What is your favorite sonic drink?
Had a cherry limeade once, it was good.
7. What is your favorite board/card game?
Scrabble, cribbage, rummy and poker growing up. Joe doesn’t play games so now it’s Spider, FreeCell, Mah Jongg
8. What is your favorite podcast?
Haven’t listened to many but really enjoyed Heather’s DIL’s TED talk. I do listen to NPR while driving.
9. What is your dream sandwich?
Crispy bacon, lettuce, mayonnaise, sweet hot mustard and avocado on sourdough bread. AMEN to no tomatoes.
10. What makes you gag?
Seafood, fish, tomatoes (exactly what Lisa said), boiled squash. I’m totally ok with tomato puree and sauce so long as no little slimy chunks with nasty skin attached. Consciously wiping my 9th grade science teachers lecture on cutworms in canned tomato products from memory.
11. What are your hobbies?
Reading, walking and train/playing with the dogs, line dancing, playing in the dirt, goofing around on the computer.
12. What is one thing that can make your day instantly better?
Joe saying” let’s take the dogs for an outing. We’ll wait for you to get ready, take your time.”
13. What was the best vacation/trip you ever took and why?
In 1980 I took a six week leave of absence from work and traveled to Israel. By myself. Other than a week’s volunteering on an archeological dig, no scheduled or supervised activities. Something I’d wanted to do since I was 8 or 9, something I’d never do again without an organized and shepherded tour/class. So glad I did it. Kissed the ground when I got home.
14. If you were an animal, what animal would you be?
A terrier. Small, yappy, detail oriented, independent and persistent.
15. At a party, where can someone find you?
In the kitchen talking to the help or out on the back porch with Lisa.
Michele sorry to hear about your back pain. With me, my arthritic knees and wrists give me a 2 day rain warning. More accurate than our TV weatherman, but I’d really rather not
Pam in Louisiana any special period of history for those romances? Looking for a home for my collection of Georgette Heyer Regency Romances.
Katla according to the Demographics section of https://govstatus.egov.com/OR-OHA-COVID-19 Columbia County has had 14 positives, 526 negatives and 0 Deaths
Thanks Rita will try that today!
Heather it does seem that those brilliant, innovative, inventive, entrepreneurs are notoriously arrogant, obnoxious jerks. Could it be that the social skills/human compassion areas of their brains had to give way to the engineer?
Carol imho it is the rare husband who DOES listen, at least until we learn how to tailor our communications to his processing methods.
Rebecca beautiful ring and NSV!
Terri jealous of your Latin.
Margaret thank you for that sobering care list.
Time to make a bit of lunch and get ready to zoom chat with two dance friends. I have internet friends (you all), dance, T'ai Chi, exercise class and church friends, but my BFF died 15 years ago. Miss her to this day.
Lighter, lovelies!
