Ouch Pip! I'm so sorry, it looks painful, (not as painful as the collarbone incidentπ).
Hugs!

Michele- Exactly !! I call a relative they donβt have my number saved in the phones they assume telemarketing donβt answer!! Or itβs for JRs medical but they always use random numbers like a telemarketer so I donβt answer they cancel an appointment or chose a different option for me on health insurance!
JR lost his health insurance same time as the pandemic so he now has none. Oh well paid cash for Daughter her whole life even worked extra jobs to pay them off..thatβs life. I also hate calls that are automative so you hang up then find out it was the Doctor office or the grocery store to say something important!

Got my footlockers in their humongous! So the locks I bought are a size too small(luckily they fit luggage 𧳠so can use it in future trips to secure my bags! Might even stick on our emergency hospital bags! Safety that way!
Goodness Pip! If you wouldnβt have caught yourself with your hand youβd have a broken jaw y concussion!2 -
Dang, PIP You did do a number on yourself. When do you find out if your teeth are OK?

Athena's birthday is 11th, so we decided to start a magazine subscription that all three sons had growing up. Well we also got a monthly magazine from my Mom and stepdad. It was Highlights, and I had about 4 issues from my childhood in the mx, then saved issues from when the son's grew up. This one for Athena isn't Highlights but a magazine called " Babybug", then when she gets older its "Ladybug" and finally for the grade schoolers its called "Cricket". It was nice because with the Highlights issues it was something from grandma & grandpa. So even though we were in CA and my parents were in OR, it was a time I got photos out and told stories about my mom and Bob. Hopefully my son Patrick will do that with Athena.π One side note, when my mom passed my youngest was just 4 months old, middle son 4, and eldest 9. So those magazines were well read by us, and by them learning how to read. My step father continued the subscription. So every month a magazine came from Highlights with my Moms name. Even after death, she was still delighting my boys. How sweet is that. When they all grew out of all the magazines, having pretty much memorized every story, I donated them to a childcare center. I had twelve upright magazine holders that had been in our bookshelves. Every month we'd get a new stack to put in a basket, along with library books.

Karen VA ... you are not the only one who washes groceries... we do as well. I only Order through delivery services at this time which are left on our front alcove/porch. Nothing comes into our home that hasnβt been left to air out or been washed/disinfected in the garage first. Much of what we do seems over the top even to me but I at least feel like Iβve done everything I can. My older disabled son will unlikely even survive a mild case. For some reason our county in NY (not NYC area) is seeing an uptick in hospitalizations. Iβm not taking chances.

way over calories yesterday, partly boredom and lockdown. i wanted to go out after class yesterday but here we're not supposed to go out but 1x a day for sport. i had already spent about 1h walking around looking for masks yesterday
MASKS: (they just started selling medical masks but ran out within hours in most places on Monday), and finally got 10 and my regular pharmacy: 95 centimes a mask, they used to be 7 cents a mask: why they set a maximal price 10x normal for this essential product is a mystery to me. There are also cloth masks for maybe 5 euros or so, but they have to be, they say, washed at 60 degrees centigrade for 30 min after each use and can be only used 20 times. I question how economical and ecological that can be, relatively speaking. My washing machine doesn't have a fast cycle for hot washes. I don't usually do a hot wash more than 1x a week max (sheets and towels).2 -

I wouldn't even know where to look for masks here.
No, that's not quite true ... occasionally there are a few at Bunnings. Painting masks or dust masks for doing home improvement projects. I have a package of those if we ever actually need them.
But I haven't seen the fancy cloth fashion-statement type in stores anywhere ... or on people either for that matter.
Instead we're opting for choice 6 on this chart ... staying home! I've been home from work and uni for 40 days now and haven't been to the shops or anything for a week.

Hi all!
It's our "meeting aanniversary" today and I'm just about to make the man a morning cup of tea and give him his presents and my home made card.
17 years. Oh wow! As my friend said, he still feels like "my new man".
For those who don't know me, we met through an on line dating service and met in person on the 6th at 6.20 pm. It was in a pub called The Lamb and Flag, in Covent Garden, London. The rest is ...........

Hello everyone, this seems like a very friendly cheery group! I am brand new, 71 years old female and need to lose at least 25 pounds. I can't believe how quickly the pounds have piled on in the last 3 or 4 years. So difficult to lose anything, and seems I'm just always hungry... I do have a specific problem that I'd love some help with.... I have some health issues (which I won't bore you with specifics) that keep me up all hours of the night, every night. By 3 AM I am looking for something to eat because I'm hungry again, and because I'm so upset that I am not asleep. I try to save some of my daily intake calories for this, but having a terrible time. Does anyone have this experience and can you think of something that would be good to eat at that time of night that isn't highly caloric and fattening?! Thank you so much.... if I can find help with this night time eating, I think I'll lose weight much easier....7

It's also 17 years since I met my husband. We "met" on a cycling forum in March 2003 and in person on a long-distance cycling event in France in August 2003. But it took a couple years before anything developed.
Happy Anniversary!

Machka : Regarding scams, like you I don't answer the phone, I have caller ID so I can see if it is someone I know, if the number not recognised I let it go to the answer machine, it's usually the recorded messages that leave a message. Just seen the meme about the flu shots - nearly choked on my coffee so funny. By the way Happy Anniversary.
Heather: Happy Meeting anniversary to you
I met my hubby in a night club a month before my 18th birthday, (I'll have to tell you about it one of these days) we were married 3 months later, most people thought we "had" to get married, but we'd been married seven years before starting a family. He was honestly the love of my life, although he drove me mad some days, but I miss him.
Well better get on with few chores before venturing out to the post office for a birthday card for my SIL, and get it posted it's her birthday on Sunday - such a shame we can't visit but she lives too far to even chat on her doorstep. Will probably pay a few bills and the lottery for my mum whilst I'm there.

Hi, Louise! Welcome to our little group. You may want to bookmark this thread, if you haven't already done so, by clicking on the lower of the two stars at the top right of this page. It will take you to the last page you viewed on this thread, although not to the exact post:

I'm often up at 4 or earlier, as are several of the other women here. We have women from the UK, Europe, Tasmania, and the North Pole, as well as Canada & the USA on this thread; the different time zones means people are posting at all hours. This is a fast-moving, chatty thread, so chime right in. Whether you post often or rarely, read every post or just skim, you are welcome here anytime with almost any topic you want to discuss or comment on.
What to eat at 3am: You could try hot herbal tea. I find a cup of herbal tea a better choice than food at 3am when, if possible, I may want to try to go back to sleep for another hour or two. I love Peppermint, Sleepytime, or my own lemon balm tea. There is a licorice tea some people love on this thread, I think it might be this one, and I believe it even comes as a licorice mint variety if you prefer:
As far as topics for discussion - except for religion or politics, most every topic is fair game, so if you want to post about your health issues it's OK. And it isn't boring to us!
I'm Karen in Virginia. I'm 66 and working from home in telemedicine. My weight control and exercise routines are not as disciplined as I would like, but I am making progress. I have 5 lovely grandchildren, and a lovely female spouse, and 2 sweet little Yorkies Molly & Mabel. I like to garden, walk, cook, read. Until recently I was learning coach for my soon-to-be 14-year old grandson, but COVID-19 disrupted that. Also disrupted was taking care of infant granddaughter Lilliana 2 days a week. We saw her yesterday - all the adults in her life had been home for 2 weeks, so we chanced it - and it was fantastic to see her. It was heartwarming that she smiled as soon as she saw us, and didn't think we were strangers.

Good morning all! Happy Wednesday!
Pip- Ouch! I hope all heals well and things go well at the dentist. On the upside: a lot of women are paying top dollar for that plumped up lip look! You got yours for free!
Tonya, Karen, Tracey and all- Thank you for sharing the "dad" stories. I was close to my dad, as well. He was my "parent" (although I was close to my mom, too) due to my younger sister being adopted when I was six months old. She would only go to my mom, so I became daddy's baby. I don't remember any heart to heart type conversations. He was just an ever-present calm soul. He put up with my goofy behaviour (dancing on the golf course while I was caddying for him), my angry outbursts (which, as a teen, included some fowl language), my demolition of his home (being stood up for a date+kicking the wall in anger=hole in the wall). Those are some instances when he could have yelled or became violent, but he would just take a deep breath and calm me down. I wish he were still around so I could ask him how hard that was. Lost both my parents 27 years ago. Mom to cancer, dad six months later complications from heart attack.
Rebecca- Athena! that spaghetti eating beauty!
Heather- Happy "Meetaversary"!

Rita > I was talking to my girlfriend about what kind of new normal it will be. In the end we decided how sad it would be if people were not allowed to go to rock concerts or music festivals. Such things that were so memorable and amazing to be part of it would be a shame if the new normal did not include those.
Katla > That is the beautiful thing about technology, even when you can't be with your loved ones you can still watch them via video or face chat etc
Rebecca > Thank you, it is amazing how others can give you strength such as my dad or y our husband. The people you talk to here can do it even when you have never met. It is that accountability I suppose and friendships. Love the pic of your husband... so funny! My dad was a joker like that also...
That sounds like a wonderful idea for Athena's birthday. My inlaws did the same thing with my daughter as well, they were called Aquila and they were very informative and fun x
Being silly...
Heather > I'm sure you will get your refund. I mean there was nothing you can do about not making the trip I think it is kind of good that your hair appointment was cancelled just for safety reasons. I think it is too early for things to start opening up and if they do I hope they also wear masks for awhile at the beginning xx
Also, Happy Meeting Anniversary Hope you have a brilliant day x Happy Birthday to Max as well x
Amber > That is hilarious, my hubby should take note of the way you handle it..lol He gets very upset and shouts and sometimes uses profanity. I always tell him you don't need to be so mean and rude they are only doing their jobs. As much as it irritates me, I still cannot be rude or shout at them, I simply just hang up but might try your little trick there lol Wow that is a very unique way of burial, I have never heard of anything like that before x
drkatie > Oh yes i know what you mean, it bothers me so much those scammers that try to take advantage of the elderly etc. How bloody low can you go?? ugh it just gets me so upset even hearing about them doing that!
Enjoy your hair appointment and most importantly stay safe!
Karen > That sounds like a wonderful day.. It's nice to hear about the good things when the world is so dark right now.. love the pics also x
Pip > well done on the calorie burn!! That is awesome I wish I could do that, well done
Machka > Love the pic and looks like a lovely walk! I love most accents personally! I know some of the irish accents I cannot even understand..lol I went to a wedding in Scotland once and I was still very new to living in the UK. I was outside of the reception and there was this man there having a *kitten* and he just starts talking away to me.. and I mean fast!! I just looked at him and I could not understand A WORD he said lol I just nodded and said "oh yeah" lol
Pip > Yikes, you need to be more careful or we will have to wrap you in bubble wrap lol
Michele > Thank you very much, it is all still so fresh and still hurt so much. Probably should not be posting about it as it is kind of a downer for others to read I would imagine. x
Tracey > Nice one So cute.. I love little fairies x
Louise > Firstly, welcome to the group. I am very new to the group also but everyone seems wonderful. Something that I enjoy to eat that is low calorie is cucumber. I will slice up an entire cucumber (leaving skin on) and it is only a few calories. I do add a bit too much salt on mine but it does leave you feeling quite full. If you like cucumber you might want to give it a try.. its mostly just water anyway
Kelly > Thank you, your father sounds lovely also x It is so hard to lose a parent, nevermind both. xo

Good morning ladies!
Welcome new gals, I enjoy learning about you and those pictures you are sharing. This is the place to be!
Katiebug - What a sad situation regarding the virus and that beauty shop - almost a perfect storm.
Pip - we took up a collection and Amazon will be delivering an industrial size roll of bubble wrap to you. Please encase yourself before leaving the house, lol.
Machka - great photos, as always. Loved the cartoon with the doctor using the patient as a dart board, lol.
The clinic I go to isn't getting many patients these days. I don't think they are hurting too much from lack of income as it's a "direct care" facility where everyone pays a monthly fee, tho they do take walk-ins getting CDL exams and just people who don't have a regular doctor and needs to see one quickly. They are also doing virus and antibody testing. As of last week, negatives on both.
Our health department reports no new positives in the past week or so in our little county. An average of 25 tests are being done per day on folks with symptoms and they are all Covid-19 negative so far. Looks like colds, allergies, and other flu's are making the rounds.
Does anyone know if the antibody test is being covered by insurance or the government? Last I heard it was $55 out of pocket. If that's the case, there might be lots of folks with antibodies who had very mild cases but can't afford to be tested. Hard to keep up with all this.
Karen in VA - I could feel your joy holding that little one. Your description of your perfect day gave me a lift. Always look forward to the views from a window you post.
Terri - you share such nifty photos of your countryside, it's almost like being there. Thanks and please continue. Another terrific point of this group - it's like a travelogue, lol.
Penny - that bread looks SOOOO GOOOOD. I have a recipe for "Cuban Bread" which is baked in a bowl that I haven't tried yet, I'm not sure I have any bowls I'd trust in the oven. I might try it with a casserole dish one of these days though.
The bulk of tomatoes in our greenhouse are leaving today.... I'm going to jet a Sungold (sweet orange cherry tomato) over to a town nearby this morning and meet my girlfriend who is trading one of her home grown impatiens for it. Then this afternoon my other girlfriend is coming and it looks like I have 16 or 20 for her! What she doesn't use she'll pass along to relatives and neighbors. Temps in the 80's this weekend so it looks like great planting weather.
I hope to get our few in the ground tomorrow and heap more dirt onto the potato patch.
Rita - do you know the name of the tomato in the photo you shared? Is it a container type? I discovered one last year called Little Sicily which is really compact and produces a lot of good tomatoes for its size - yours reminds me of it.
Like Carol and Heather and Machka and others in this group, we aren't having much distress over this new way of life. We are saving money for sure by just buying less - fewer trips to town to "shop". I miss eating lunch with my girlfriends every couple weeks but I think that will resume in another month or so - no reason we can't grab a take-out and meet at a picnic table somewhere and catch up. Sounds like good fun, actually. Restaurants get SO noisy and crowded, I never liked them that much anyhow.
Thinking about Rori and Kylia this morning. Sending good thoughts your way.
OK ladies, time to get busy around here. Make it a fabulous day!!
Lanette

Louise, welcome to our friendly community. If you are looking for like minded women you have come to the right place. We stay away from topics that are divisive and talk about everything else. I routinely wake up in the middle of the night to take my dogs out for a quick chance to pee. Before I go to bed, I've laid out a treat for them (and for the cat who expects one even though he has done nothing). For myself I get a stick of string cheese--easy to portion, some protein, and not messy to eat. Then I get back in bed, shut off the light and read a book I have on the Kindle app on my phone. I read sometimes for a few minutes and sometimes for hours. Either way, I am a winner because I get either sleep or a delightful opportunity to read.
Pip, your resilience is inspiring to all of us. Too many people use a surprise fall as an opportunity to whine, check out, and seek sympathy. You just jump right up and get back to business.
Michele, I know that if someone in my class died, I'd hear about it. I am more concerned about people who will find that getting back into the discipline of dancing is too much for them after being home for so long,
We gave up our land line phone a few years ago and now each of us has a cell phone. Because there were so many phone extensions in the house, there was no way to shut the system down during nap time or at bed time. It's so easy to either silence or shut off a cell phone. I answer my phone only if I know who is calling. If it is important they'll leave a message and I'll call back immediately. My cell phone is usually on silent because I don't want to be universally available to get a call.
