Yvonne ... you said "My diet has been a train wreck lately too. I'm tired of working and worrying about finances and being stuck in the house, and I'm lonely and kind of cranky lately. I think we just have to give ourselves permission to start moving again with baby steps." I absolutely agree!

We are out and about too much for my taste. I would like to stay home a bit more, but since we are "allowed" out, we go out. I don't think I would be too upset with another couple of weeks of shelter in place. What I liked about that is that I didn't need to make decisions. No "do I feel like going out today?" questions. Or where we go. Decision breaks are nice.

I think shelter in place is coming to a city near me very soon. In the meantime, I'm planning a road trip for just the two of us.

Heather - I'm with you on the funeral. I told the mister to just toss my ashes in our canyon and drink a good sour beer in my honor. No fuss, no wake, no dinner. We're all alone out here anyway.

I have had my splints removed! I can breathe!

Splints are not small things, and the left one in particular, was putting unnecessary pressure on parts of the interior of my nose, causing quite a bit of pain. Such a relief to have them out.

Congrats! Must be a lot of relief in many ways!

I never was a clean freak. I do what’s necessary but dislike doing it. Mostly because my DH loves clutter and mess. Can’t touch his messes (piles of stuff) so have to work around it. Discouraging so hate cleaning.

    RvRita

Exactly my situation. I hate clutter, but I can't help what he does.

DH is trying to unload the dishwasher and do the washing up with his painful neck. He has managed it. He is very stubborn. It must hurt because he is taking Paracetamol. He rarely takes any kind of pill.
I am still meeting my friend for lunch tomorrow. I bought him some soft wholemeal rolls, so he can make his own easily. It will have to be a light dinner after my enormous pizza lunch! :o Fish, I am thinking.

We were so preoccupied with DH that we completely forgot about the painter coming to give an estimate for the living room. I looked blankly at him on the doorstep. ;) He is busy until October, but that's ok. We've got to get the floors sanded first. Strangely he is a good friend and recommendation of the guy we originally wanted, who has ill health issues, and he could be his twin brother! Both obsessed with cricket, so get on very well with DH. Same way of talking. My son has used both the guys. He is reckoning on a 5-6 day job. Unfortunately we have glass doors with 15 panels in each!

Machka - so happy for you to have got those horrible things out. :o:#

    Love Heather UK xxxxxxxx

I actually was enjoying when we were on total Shelter at home- I like staying home, like you plus that was my reason/excuse to not have to go on every little errand husband wanted me to go on with him, mostly, going to see his mom. I loved three months of not having to deal with her. He still did but I didn't have to go. I still don't go often but not as strict as I was. We are saving a lot of money too- not going out shopping, just to go out and have something to do like before- he loves to shop and doesn't like to stay home. He still shops, even more on line than he used to.

Heather: I’m happy to know your DH is at home. I hope his neck pain goes away soon. :star:

Rebecca: I attended a Renaissance Fair in Colorado with my daughter and granddaughter several years ago. I was delighted. It was a great deal of fun. As a horse nut, I loved watching the jousting. I also fondly remember a musical performance by a talented group of bagpipers. Good times and good memories.

Machka: Congratulations with having your splints removed. Breathing freely is an excellent outcome. :flowerforyou:

Annie: Can you get a stationary bike? It may be a real asset to your efforts to be more active. Walking and riding a stationary bike are two things that work well for DH & me. The stationary bike is weather proof. Ours are kept in our garage which is generally pleasantly cool in summer and reasonably warm in winter. :star:

Lisa: Good news for your new fence. I hope the rest of the installation goes smoothly.

Pip: I’m happy that you were able to take care of your kitty when it was her time. Now you can move on to your new adventure without a lingering regret about leaving kitty behind.

Beth and Katla-thanks! The mini stepper is all I have room for. It's a drawback of living in my parents' house.
I had a bad surgery on my knee to loosen my kneecap. I agree that I need knee strengthening exercises. I do baby lunges and such. I'm just bad at getting the pace right. But two minutes of stepper seems good for a start.

Awe, fun times! I loved the jousting too! One year we attended the Northern California Ren faire most weekends people thought we worked there. People would ask us where this or that was and wish to take pics with us. LOL! !y son's would spend hours in the maze. There was a guy at the front yelling, " come explore our maze and GET LOST "! I would tell any of the people going in to not follow the kids in the green, or brown pants, because they will get you lost for certain! I always got henna tattoos on my hand! It was relaxing to explore. The boys had great naps out there. As a giggle we wenches used to lie down in front of bagpipe player's so they'd have to walk over us. They'd smile and walk around!😁

I agree! Anything that gets that knee moving is a step in the right direction! There were days I didn't think I could do 20 seconds let alone 2 minutes of anything involving my knees!

Well, hello there. I am so happy to have found this site and this thread. I have been working on the front lines (nurse) for the duration of the pandemic. While I am happy to honor my calling to patient care, its stressful and my food choices have not been the best. My goal is to lose whatever by October when my children come home for a visit. I will not be done by any stretch but I will be on my way to a more healthful life. The best part is that my husband is also on the front lines (but in a different profession) so we are both in the same boat and both want to take these steps together.

Exercise continues to be a problem, I'm exhausted when I get home and all I want to do is sit and read a great book, or knit, or sew but none of those things inspire my metabolism. What are you doing for exercise? Is anyone doing anything with resistance bands? That seems to be a great low impact way to get into shape. What would you recommend?

Thanks, I look forward to learning from the wisdom of the group.

Getting up that early, what time do you go to bed?
The earliest I ever got up on a regular basis was 5 and that didn't last very long. [/quote]

I usually go to bed by 6:30 PM so I can be asleep by 7 PM. I love my mornings as they are quiet.

Beth I had physical therapy to strengthen my knee. Yes squats were part of it. He also told me to make sure I wear shoes that support the arch in my foot. Since starting to do this I have less trouble. I an tell that my shoes are wearing out by how my knees feel. Just bought two new pairs for this reason. I do this so I can alternate shoes too and not wear them two days in a rows.

    Happy birthday, Katla!

Welcome, TripsMom - Bits of advice:
    • Find an exercise you love, because if you hate it, you won't keep doing it. Mine is the elliptical, rower and gardening.
    • Find the time that makes sense to you--I could never get myself to exercise at night, or after a work shift, I was just too tired--exercise had to be the first thing, or I would simply give up in the end.
    • Lastly - just remember you can't outrun a bad diet. Exercise will help, but it won't make you lose weight unless you do something about how you're eating. There are people here on every possible species of diet regimens, so there's always someone to talk to about whatever you're into.

    Regards,
    Lisa in AR
