    Elliptical - 65 min., 490 cals.
    Yardwork - 100 min., 703 cals.

Seem to have settled in at between 1,000 and 1,200 calorie burn in the mornings... and will exercise in the afternoon if I haven't quite hit my goal.

Exceeded my own expectations by exercising every day for the last 15 straight. Makes me happy, to think I can still beat my own goals. Channeling my mother of late, especially with the work in the yard. This morning, I transplanted ten canna lilies, as we're doing (okay, I'm doing) some shuffling in terms of where we want various plants in the yard.

Ragweed is just beginning here - makes me feel as if someone hit me on the nose with a newspaper--my face is touchy. It will pass quickly, more irritation than an actual allergic reaction. Be glad when it's over though.

Off to the showers, I'm a grub.

    Love y'all,
    Later,
    Lisa

Kim & Debbie: I hope you stay safe from fire worries.

Lanette: Luckily, your wood didn’t get wet. On the topic of health, I agree with the hand washing and sanitizing strategy to help us stay safe. :flowerforyou:

(((Lisa))): Breathing is essential. I wonder whether Covid masks will help keep the ragweed from making you sick. It couldn’t hurt to experiment if you have one on hand. :star:

I have a cousin who lives in CA and tried to reach her by phone without luck today. She lives on the coast north of San Fransisco. I hope she is okay. :flowerforyou:

We had a message from our eye doctor to make an appointment. I called this morning and made my appointment for October 20. It was the first time she could work me in. I will have to wait in the car and wear a mask. She is excellent. DH has volunteered to be my driver. He has been referred to an eye specialist in a different office by our primary care doctor.

The sanding lady came and was very nice. We can't decide whether to have a light stain on the boards, or just leave them natural. The shop is just around the corner so we can pop in and look at some samples. They can also show us on a small patch at the time. She is going to estimate for the living room, dining extension and hall, but how much we have done depends on the cost. She will email the estimate. At the moment the living room is the priority as we are having it decorated in October.

I cooked a Kegeree for dinner. Heaven! I use a Delia Smith recipe. Not slimming, but worth it. :D I just drank water because of my bladder infection, so that saved a few calories. We had French beans with it.

Beautiful day here. Lovely temperature. Sunshine. Tomorrow is predicted extremely windy, the aftermath of Terri's storm. I'm glad I cancelled my friend's visit because we would have had to eat outside in 45 mph winds!!! We will Zoom at the weekend.

Sending loving thoughts to Debbie and Kim!
Glad Joe's eye is mending, Barbara.

I have much more energy today. I even took the base covers off the sofa and put them in the washing machine. My infection meant I had lost interest in doing anything. Just flopping around.

:) Our internet was down all day yesterday. I was able to do a few things on my phone including going to two Zoom meetings, but I'm much happier with the internet available.

:) My yard work this week is straining the compost from last year's bin. It clears out the branches and other debris that didn't compost well and leaves wonderful nourishment to put in the flower beds.

:) Went to the dentist yesterday for my appointment that was rescheduled from May. I felt safe throughout the whole procedure. The interesting part was that the appointment was in Port Angeles about 15 miles away and I haven't driven there since February.

:) I have friends who live near the fires in California and I am thinking of them along with Kim and Debbie.

    (((Debbie and Kim)))

Faye why do you say a trip to Spain or france to visit family or friends there will not happen? finances for the ticket?
Outside Covid off-season there are some really cheap plane tickets at times.

Lanette This is a test used by Neuro-otologist to determine what side you are experiencing nerve function loss. It gives them an indication of what kind of more scientific tests they need to do. It is great for home testing to check progress on exercise routine modifications for your balance.

Find a room (I use my garage) where you can walk at least 12 feet without hitting the wall and you can go sideways without hitting something for 3 feet either side of the center. Face the wall or in my case garage door, face straight ahead and have someone put masking tape at this point. Point your feet and body that direction and lineup so a straight-ahead walk will take you to that point.

Have someone blindfold you so you see no light. With hands at your sides, walk straight to that point having someone watch you so you don't slam into sidewalls or the wall or door you are walking toward. Have the person stop you about 3 feet of the door or wall. Take off the blindfold and measure the distance you have veered from the center and what side.

For example if you veered to the left, then your vestibular weakness is on the right, however, you must strengthen your left side muscles. Strengthening this left side will help compensate for the loss of vestibular function with your eyes open.

I found exercises that had reps on one side then the other. If it used 10 reps, I gave my left side 15 reps and my right 10 since I veer to the left side and have a right side nerve loss.

The distance you veer to one side is an indication of how bad your loss might be. When I started testing I was 5 feet to the left on a 12-foot walk and now I am less than 2 feet off. I did lots of experimenting and lots of video watching finding exercises that I could do that worked both sides. There are some yoga poses that are ideal with a bit of modifying to your need.

Debbie and Kim ... praying for heavy rain ...

Barbara ... glad to hear that Joe's eye is healing ...

Faye ... thanks for the vestibular system test

Have been doing some delayed stress eating ... putting a stop to that today! I am my own worst enemy.

Used up the last of my donated zucchini (vegan zucchini bread for son with egg allergy) and tomorrow I've been promised a bushel of tomatoes so will get to work at putting those up. I usually just freeze them, but am thinking I might try and can some as well. Fall is in the air here in western NY and my thoughts immediately go to storing up for winter. And with this covid thing, I'm more sensitive to making sure we have what we need this fall/winter. Always a good idea in this area with snow anyways. For some reason, our area is experiencing paper good shortages again??

Today is the International Day of Medical Transporters!

"Whether you’re being rushed down the freeway in an ambulance after a tragic accident or being taken to an appointment in a van provided by your community or medical provider, Medical Transporters can hold your life in their hands. The history of Medical Transportation can be traced back to World War I where Field Ambulances transported those in need of medical care to facilities where they could be treated. This innovation moved into hospitals in the form of Medical Orderlies, and into the community in the form of ambulances. These intrepid souls would see their roles expand as time went by to include emergent care on the scene, assistance with surgery, handing out medication, and treating patients who are in isolation for their medical conditions."

Katla - So sorry Ichabod couldn't be saved. They are such lovely birds.

Lanette - No rioters here in our small town. There've been several vigils and walks but they were peaceful. We're surrounded by Good Old Boys... heck, many of the folks who stood still for eight minutes and forty-six seconds of silence in Heritage Park with us were probably carrying.

Michele - I'm snake-friendly but I'm with you... I've got no desire to swim with snakes! I'd have levitated out of there!

Annie - Wow, that is a lot of medical stuff for your little Teddyboo! Hope he's feeling better!

Machka - My mom and dad traveled a lot after they retired. I have an uncle who is only about ten years older than me. He and his wife traveled as much as they could when they were young. My aunt died of breast cancer really young, when all four of their kids were still at home. At any rate, your comment reminded me of Uncle Mike because he once told my dad how glad he was that they'd done some travelling early because, "If we'd waited for retirement it would have been too late."

Sending good thoughts for everybody in the path of wildfires. That is scary stuff. Everything is tinder-dry here and I'm surprised we haven't had a big fire yet. Hope everyone stays safe!

We have traveled quite a bit too, but not nearly enough in my opinion. There are just so many places to experience and so far, really none we've been to that I wouldn't go back to. This whole COVID thing has slowed us down considerably and it makes me unhappy.

Sending the best thoughts and good karma to those near the fires.

Heather - I'd like to have your cookbook. Your meals sound so delicious.

I've been baking too much. My freezer is full of lemon cake, cookies, brownies, soda bread, etc. As long as I leave it all in the freezer, I guess it's OK. I never used to bake. I don't understand my current obsession.
