Withdrawals After spending the morning in MFP quarantine, I am once again able to post. I was relieved that it was a program glitch and not because of my behavior.
Short term memory loss After a leg numbing thorough bladder drain while carefully positioned on the toilet, I staggered out to my moonlit patio to do my Tai Chi this very morning. I felt my legs regaining feeling as I slowly moved them into a power position. I came back to the center and felt a familiar sensation on my left leg. As it reached my knee I heard a voice in my head that sounded like my mothers. "Faetta, did you not learn anything from yesterday?"

Tuesday is my tough day. I exercise with my dad at four but my eating window closes at five. So I last ate around two, and I have 400 calories left. It's 5:30 now. Can I make it until 9:00 am? Should I even try?

Allie: I love your idea that your family members who have gone before you are now your Guardian Angels. It is a comforting thought. I have always believed in Guardian Angels and have two special aunties who have long passed & have helped me through challenging times. My parents taught me to value guardian angels when I was a young child growing up.
We went to the furniture store here in town to look for a pair of new chairs. Those we sit in most are coming apart at the seams and it is time to replace them. The ones we plan to buy will likely take a few months to be built and get to us. I hope they are worth the wait.

Rebecca- I love your little quotes and your vision is funny.
I grew up right next to my Grandparents and I truly loved it as a child and cherish the memories. However, when we were young parents and offered a piece of property I turned it down. I didn’t want my parents being able to drop in at any time unannounced like they and I did to my grandparents. I know there must have been many times my Grandmother just wanted peace and couldn’t get it as she would never have sent us away. Looking back I think I abused her some in that regard.
As a parent with grandchildren now I like having the distance between us, my youngest is a little too far, but it’s a pretty drive.
Our girls will not just stop in without texting to say we’re on the way or do you mind. Our eldest, when we were having this discussion last week, said I’m too scared to just drop in, how do I know you and Dad aren’t running around naked, he always said that what you were going to do when we moved out. 😂
Barbie - I am a little envious of your alone time. I have not been alone during waking hours in my own house since June 2019. I am alone each morning from 5am until I leave for work, but I don’t really count that time as I’m asleep for most of it.
Allie - I like to think those that passed are my Guardian Angels too. I can’t visit any of them but I think about them a lot.
Katla- we need to make one of those big purchases as well.
I really need a lot of money to get everything fixed that needs fixed.
Had a 2.5 hour zoom meeting today for a new scheduling/payroll program. We will be moving from DOS to Windows and I am over the moon excited! It will cut my workload greatly and will open up my time for more projects which I enjoy.
Sad news from the Rock n Roll world today, I am not a big Rock fan but enjoyed Van Halen.

5: start your day with the most difficult thing on your list: maybe tomorrow. Somehow taking a shower and washing my hair has been the most difficult so that’s what I did.
6: do something constructive to improve a difficult situation: ?
Typing this on my laptop while scanning from my iPhone. Will post when I can get back in from my laptop.
Katla thanks for the heads up about the Oregon Voter’s Guide. Tried for the Military/Overseas voting guide and this is what I got. The “complete Online Voters' Guide” will be posted sometime this week. Candidates either have to pay $600+ to get their statements included, or submit petitions with ### validated signatures. Know this cuz I gathered 20 signatures for one of our county council incumbents. I’m reluctant to long in to anything through FaceBook, other than FB itself. Fae is having the same issue, able to log food, but kicked out when clicking community.
Flea heart rx out of stock? Had a similar issue in Boise, where the vet told us that big pharm stopped producing a certain, effective vet medicine because it was too cheap to be profitable. He gave us an rx for the human grade that we were able to have filled at Wal~Mart.
Debbie Try the gingerbread ice cream mocha too, it didn’t sound great but it is yummy! Kind of a holiday spice ice cream in mochi. Grocery Outlet is great, cheerful, competent staff, very careful cleansing and social distancing protocols. BUT there are two problems: 1: There is ALWAYS something there that demands I buy it even though it’s not on my list. 2: Wonderful things appear, I get hooked, then they’re gone forever (Cooper Street cranberry almond biscotti for example. Most yummy and only 30 cals each.
Vicki that’s a lot of hours to work. Hope you have some energy left for your vacation
Tracey would painting the inside of a metal watch band with clear nail polish allow you to wear it without the rash? No training for the gear up test, yet you passed? DD hired on the spot? Both so very well done! What flavor(s) of grandpuppy?
Allie holding good thoughts for Trudy’s safe return. Hope the nuclear scan reveals an easily repaired issue.
Rebecca (and Debbie) you are right. It is necessary to set safe boundaries for yourselves. Hard to do, but crucial. You can always hope that bumping into those boundaries might shake them up enough to wake them up, but only they can do that, not you.
Kim I must have had ice cream (from the mocha chat) on the brain because my initial reaction to Rebecca’s (n)ice cream of chicken soup was bleccch. Praying for the surgeon, anesthesiologist and your mother, that all goes well.
Karen in VA I wimped out and skipped right over the tonsillectomy video.
Lannette, alas, the garden prep has been on my “get to do” list for months, and has yet to move to the “chose well”. Choosing instead to pull salal, prune fetterbush lyonia and most important walk the dogs down to the powerline...
Smoky here again with an angry orange sun. Fortunately the temps are back to our normal 55-65 range.

Barbara - I have tried the clear polish an it didn’t work either. It’s funny because I can wear anything in my ears with no issues whatsoever. I think it’s a reaction with the sweat that builds up under anything on my wrist.

Did Katina Hunter Interval Party DVD. The plan for tomorrow is to do a 30 Minutes to Fitness Plateau Buster DVD
Kim – you know, I made the EXACT same mistake when I read Rebecca’s post. Maybe I shouldn’t read posts too early in the am….lol Great thoughts for your mom
Worked, got milk ready to make yogurt then exercised. Afterwards, helped Vince put the rocks in the culvert.
Katla – I’m glad you were able to fix your problem. When I get the “an error occurred” message, I just log out and then try again. Sometimes I have to do this two or three times, but most of the time I just need to do it once.

Hi Gals,
Glad to hear there are other weird readers out there! Cream of chicken ice cream – be gone!
So mom is doing fine, surgery was a breeze and then a bit of trouble in recovery getting her blood pressure to go down, she is a total stress ball and worries about the darnest things… so this time it was that if she did not get discharged quick a neighbor might notice that she and I had been gone most of the day and would think we were doing something that was against the covid rules… Really the neighbors she likes (most of them) knew what was going on. The couple she is not fond of just stay in their homes, don’t socialize and most likely do not care at all what she is doing. But we got through it, and took her blood pressure at home and it was down 25 points…
I spoke with Lisa today, and she is slowly improving, there will be weeks before she is fully better. She said how much she appreciates the well wishes, and good thoughts. She sends well wishes to each of us. Cory is taking good care of her, and Egg is ordering her around.
Smiles

Allie, A few years ago, I had a huge blood draw when multiple doctors were trying to figure out what caused the pains in my legs. It was a fasting lab and they told me to drink a lot of water before I came in so I was up and down all night peeing. They took ten vials of blood. After that I had my regular breakfast and went to line dance class and felt fine until someone said "After they took all that blood, don't you feel weak?" Then I did and sat down immediately and in between dances for the rest of the class.
I am not a family person and would not like living adjacent to family, but I know many people who love the idea.

Margaret: I’m glad you’re able to post again.
Tracy: I count you as blessed to have your kids close by. Ours are far and I envy you. :flowerforyou:
Barbara: Thank you for the link to the Oregon Online voter’s guide for Military/Overseas. I sent the information to our son as soon as I saw your link.
Kim: Thank you for checking in Lisa and letting us know how things are going. You are an excellent friend. If you get the opportunity, extend my good wishes for a full recovery. :flowerforyou:
DH has been diabetic for many years. He usually does a great job of managing his health, but he had a low blood sugar episode late this afternoon & I ended up calling 911. Our local fire department came and gave him IV glucose. He’s doing better now. I’ve had to call for their help before. Our fire department has excellent paramedics and I am grateful for them.
I am hoping for a good night’s rest for us both and a better day tomorrow.

My husband and I were discussing in the car a dream. They always start with, "wouldn't it be great if....." . So what would be great if we (the 3 son's and us) bought a 4 plex! We would take the separating fences down in the back patios and make it mostly open. Patrick and Danielle (middle married couple with Athena) could have a fenced part for their dogs. We could watch Athena, plus and noises we would hear would be no problem because its family you know? The two sons active military would know their stuff is safe. We would be together but apart. Sounds like heaven to me! I can see " family night" with a couple pans of lasagna..... Or a son calling me whispering TAPIOCA! Its nice to dream.
💖Rebecca
That would be near torture for me. . I love my family dearly, but I don't love family drama and it exists even in the most non-dramatic families. I need a bit of distance between us all. Not necessarily the 1600+ miles between me and them, but at least a few blocks, miles, or cities.

The place right next door to my parents is for sale. On the one hand, it is tempting to try to buy it. On the other hand, it's not tempting at all. While I would like to live closer to my parents, I'm not sure I want to live next door.

I have only been alone in my own house once since July 2018 when my husband came home from the hospital ... it was when he stayed overnight in the hospital in March 2019 because of his first seizure. The rest of the time, he's home or out with me all the time.
The only breaks I get are going to work, and when he sleeps.

Mindfulness exercises tend to stress me out but I did one today at a Brain Injury event which amused me ...
The leader talked us through.
"Close your eyes and picture a lovely green pasture."
Me (thinking): Got it.
"In the distance, in the lovely green pasture, you see ..."
Me (thinking): A cow.
Leader: "... a basket."
Me (thinking): OK, a cow and a basket.
Leader: "You see that the basket is attached to the ground but that it is also attached to a big helium balloon which is trying to pull the basket off the ground".
Me (thinking): It's a wonder the cow hasn't eaten the basket yet.
Leader: "You open the basket and into the basket you put all the things that worry you, bother you etc."
Me (thinking): University of Tasmania won't fit in there. Tell you what, I'll climb into the basket and leave the things that worry me, etc. outside.
Leader: "When you've got everything in the basket, release it from the ground and let it float away. Let all your problems float away"
Me (thinking): I'm in the basket floating away. Meanwhile the cow has started eating the University of Tasmania which I left back there in the pasture.
And that amused me.
I should write my own mindfulness stuff! It would be so much more amusing!

7: remember things can change for the better: grateful for the surgeon and procedures to save Joe’s sight, praying the “straw” opens and Friday’s pressure check means he no longer needs the sick-making pills.
Heather thought of how you feel about technology tonight when our internet went down. Two days of tech troubles getting to mfp=v. aggravating.

Good morning ladies!
Kim - so glad your mom came through her surgery OK and her BP is doing well. Hoping life will be easier for her now with that taken care of. Thanks for update on Lisa, miss her here!
Katla - How exciting to be getting new chairs! Are they recliners? Happy to hear continued good news on Schooner
Tracey - I too feel fortunate being raised close to grandparents, and agree about the dropping in unannounced. Funny story - long -in our families, a person never lounged around in PJ's on the farm. Everyone would get up, get dressed, get going. PJ's allowed only if a person was sick. When DH and I got married, we set up housekeeping in rented house in town. Locking doors back then was unheard-of. DH preferred to run around in the altogether at times. So one day the grandparents decided to stop by and say HI, walked right on in like everyone did on the farm, and got an eyefull. DH was miffed that his privacy was invaded like that. You know, it was hard for me to ask the grandparents to please call first. Grandma's reply was "it didn't bother us" but I told her well, it bothered him. Same type of thing happened to my sister, my dad would walk into their house on the spur of the moment - they rented it from him - and one day caught them both in a "romantic position". That cured him, I think he at least knocked after that. Ah, families!Cute puppy by the way!!
Fae - glad you remembered
Barbie - agreed, what a treat to have our DH's leave the house now and then. I am so jealous of the gals whose husbands go out for coffee with the guys every morning, go fishing or hunting, putter around in their shops for hours on end. I think if my DH felt better and this rotten RA hadn't taken over his joints, he'd love to be more active too. It is what it is. Right now I look forward to him mowing - takes him out of the house for a couple hours, first thing I do it turn off that TV!!
So today the plan is to start ripping out the tomatoes in the garden. Vines look crappy, most of the remaining tomatoes are split. Will try to rescue a few and ripen them in the potting shed. The perfect autumn afternoons for working outside have arrived, and I'm so grateful.
Throwing together a pot of chicken chili today. For some reason it sounds yummy.
Make it a super day!

Katla - I am truly blessed that my girls have settled close to us. I understand more now how devastating it must have been for our parents when we moved out here 23 years ago.
Machka - what a long time to have no down time.
😂I loved your mindfulness story.
Kim - thanks for the update on Lisa.
Lanette - thanks for the laugh. That’s a funny story.
I too turn the tv off as soon as DH leaves th house. Yesterday I got home from work and Young and the Restless was on, I said are you watching Y&R, he said no, I’ve been playing my game. He continued to leave it on for a few more minutes though. It's just background noise that irritates me.
I was up early this morning so got some housework completed before leaving for work. I hope that doesn't become a habit as I like my sleep.

On time alone....prior to COVID I had all day to myself....hubs has been home fulltime since March and we've had our moments. Having downsized our home is small and he has a loud voice. He coaches MBA grad students so lots of Zoom sessions. I retreat to my bedroom and put on both fans and the tv at times. I get my alone time once a week when he goes out for groceries, however since he goes during senior hours I'm usually still asleep! It has proven though that we will be ok when he retires.
On living near family....we tried twice to do this...we moved to Florida to raise the kids near their paternal grandparents and family. For 11 years a disaster. Then we moved to Indiana to live near my family. 8 years a disaster...concluded that we are fine living on the rim of the family circles there but that was not sufficient for them. Siblings were so deeply interdependent we just couldn't survive.

OCD I was not pleased with my behavior yesterday, but I was pleased with my response. My bestie of over 30 years witnessed some of my strange facial gyrations and apparently new moves that were very concerning and a bit frightening. The look in her eyes was one of fright and deep concern.
Bestie - "OMG, Fae what are you doing?"
Me - "I am doing my facial Yoga, do you mind?"
Lanette I can smell that chicken chili here way upriver. Great funny story. In my youth, I witnessed my grandparents in such positions when rushing in unannounced and grew up calling it "the uglies" and I still do.
Kelly I had that problem yesterday. Glad others had it so I don't go rambling on about being personally punished.
M in Oz Loved the mindful skit!
Tracey I would install a radio control remote on the TV AC power cord, and he would never know why it kept cutting out. Hide the control where he cannot ever find it.
Cheri I visited College Station as a child as I had a great aunt there. Maybe get up earlier and get that personal time as mornings can be the best time of day for quiet girl time.
Barbara Maybe get Joe on the vacuum and that way it won't bother him. When others vacuum, blow leaves, etc., the noise bothers me, but if I do it it doesn't. Sad that your personal alone time is used doing chores.
Wives personal time I can't comment from personal experience as a senior, but from friends' experiences, I know few that have husbands or partners that know how to balance giving there partners alone time.
One friend says her DH is always gone. Up early having coffee with the "boys," then off to golf, then working on their old cars or motorcycles in their leaders (divorced 4 times and now alone) huge garage, then afternoons drinking beer and swapping the same old stories that weren't worth telling the first time. Briefly at home to eat and sleep, but too tired to do any chores.
The majority report the same as you ladies here. Partners that are home 24/7. Getting them out of the house is impossible without you being with them. Retirement, old age, and health concerns make it harder for a woman to get that alone time (in her home) that is so necessary.
I think one set of my grandparents had the perfect solution. They legally separated but bought a large duplex and each owned and had their personal side. It was great for kids and grandkids to visit because they were still in the same location, but they could do as they liked while looking after each other healthwise. My grandma's side was spotless, super tidy, and smelled like baking bread, while my grandpa's side was a toxic oil slick. He ate fried cabbage with hamburger for all three meals a day. No venting, just grease coating walls, the ceiling, and the floor. He refused to let anyone clean it. If I visited there first, I had to take off my shoes to visit my grandma's.
I can't imagine being partners 24/7 with anyone that didn't give me a LOT of personal space and time. It seems as we age even the once most comparable develop differences that require some personal time to keep things balanced. If I was in a long term relationship that deprived me of my personal time because of old age changes, I would hang in there and be a loyal partner, but I might be about as much fun to the DH as his bleeding hemorrhoids.
