I went to first grade at Catholic School in Puerto Rico in 1951 when the nuns were still wearing full habits. I'm not Catholic but the public school wouldn't take me because I was too young and the Catholic school accepted me. We wore black wool skirts and white blouses (in tropical weather).

Well, we are just going to call this a rest day
I did get laundry done. Deviled eggs made to take to friends home for super bowl get together (small). Hard boiled eggs for us to snack on for a few days. Paperwork sorted, but not done-rrrr. Will have to work on it in the morning. Had a change in plans mid stream when Wanda came to cut husband's hair and brought her son and his girlfriend with her. Now my husband isn't happy. He is a private person. He doesn't just go around showing people our things. Now we had two strangers in the house-smh. Her son we know, but he is not the brightest bulb on the planet. Wanda thought Steve could show him some of the guns which really made Steve UNHAPPY! Thank goodness for alarms and cameras. Steve says he will talk with her later. Four smokers in one garage, air purifier on high, I am now heading to shower and put clothes in washer. Yes, I use to smoke, but have only vaped for several years now. I can't handle the smell of cigarette smoke anymore especially cheap ones.Ugh.

So I remembered a bit more to comment on, still working on a borrowed computer so things are a bit limited. My new computer came and is set up but I am trying to restore from Carbonite - which as been clear sailing in the past, and is giving me grief this time.
The question about 1 hour and $10,000 is one that I have had a hard time answering but have had many a discussion with friends about. I finally came to the conclusion that I would spend it at a roofing place, the roof on my house is getting close to needing to be replaced, and I think it will be in that price range.
Wearing of pants, what the school allowed was never as much of an issue as what my mother would allow. My mom made all of my clothes including underwear, even knitted my socks and sweaters... skirts and dresses kindergarten- 6th grade, in 7th through the end of high school I got to wear pant suits one day a week, my mom made pants, a vest and a jacket in some color of double knit polyester. For gym I did have a blouse and shorts and the school required that they be bought from the uniform shop, I was not allowed to wear the home made ones... That was a scandal as far as my mom was concerned, I was so delighted to wear what everyone else was. I hated the shower and communal dressing ! Off to college (1976) and with my hard earned money I bought jeans a peasant top and birkenstocks... on my second day!

TV shows: I spend altogether far to much of my time watching daytime TV! Although I do often pick up the dumbbells, or walk during them, especially on wet days. DH and I often watch different shows in different rooms. Although we also watch BBC dramas together. I like arts programmes and he's not keen. Watched Dancingbon Ice, The Big Pottery Throwdown, and Finding Alice tonight; a double episode of Death in Paradise last week etc.

Did a Leslie Sansone walking DVD today. Work tomorrow so no formal exercise. Only bowling then mahjongg in the evening

Tracey – here the mandate is that you wear a mask in a store. I offer one to people but if they refuse, I know that I can’t ask them why. There are some people who have medical/emotional/personal reasons for not wearing one.
Debbie CA – I would go with what the package says. The 350 cal. One could be for a different size.
School clothing: I wore uniforms all the time. High school was better, still uniforms. But you can wear any color shell you wanted. Plus…we had a spring uniform and a winter one. The only time we were allowed to wear pants in elementary school was when it was really cold out and we had to wear them under our skirt and, of course, take them off when we got to school
Mrs_Hoffer and Kate – that’s what a friend of mine did..she had a virtual memorial. It was nice in that a lot of people could be “in attendance”.
We got about 3 inches of snow, and as you can guess, the city is closed down….lol Well, it’s starting to melt, so maybe now people are going out a bit.
Made chocolate bran muffins – some to take to FL. Washed part of the floor so I only have to run the Roomba tomorrow. Am doing the updates for my laptop then want to be sure the DVD’s I have (that I downloaded so they don’t take up as much room) work in my laptop. Need to get the snack ready for Vince to bake tomorrow before bowling. Got my lunch ready to take because most of the times they have hamburgers supplied by the bowling alley and I really don't want to eat them.
I’ll continue to wear my mask even after having my second vaccination (which is in two days, can’t wait, just hope I don’t have a reaction)

I am constantly amazed in MFP’s database there are some entries that have 0 calories. How does a food have 0 calories?
Beth – congrats on paying off the mortgage!!! When Vince first retired he would tell me how to run the dishwasher. I’d only been doing it for 23 years, didn’t he think I knew how to do it. Then he would tell me how to cook. I know that he just was so used to going to work that he really didn’t know how to be retired. I finally said to him “go downstairs, just go downstairs”. Eventually, he got involved more with his trains and computers so that kept him busy. Plus moving from PA to NC. He likes to be the “planner”. When we’re going to do things, how he’s going to load the truck, etc. That’s OK, I’m fine with him working things out mentally, I’ll be the “go” person.

I have found a couple of the letters difficult ... like F on Saturday and today's H isn't easy either. The weekdays are easy and if I were in Hobart for work today, H would be really easy, but it's a long weekend. I suppose Home or House could work.

It's like the flu vaccine, from my understanding. The vaccine doesn't keep you from getting it but it makes you less miserable if you do get it.
Others who have more direct medical experience could say for sure.

You and I know this, but perception is everything. People get the polio vaccine and don't get polio. This is a flu VACCINE. Yes, the flu can mutate -- polio can't. Will people feel that now they are immune since they had the vaccine? Who knows?

Both my grandkids were home schooled, I changed my views on education then, I think kids are trained to pass exams. My daughter did not have curriculum or formal lessons or times. They both learned to read at their own pace and have varying interests. I am a great believer in them learning through doing from a young age, maths using cooking or how much paint needed to decorate their room etc etc, the opportunities are endless.
Sorry I’m getting a bit ranty but our system is in disarray including our universities where students are not taught to think for themselves.

Like I said "perception is everything". Most people grew up with a vaccine for polio, smallpox, diphtheria, etc. etc. etc and they have a feeling (I know I do) of "safety". Will it be the same way with the corono vaccine? Who knows? I know that I'm going to continue to wear my mask. I don't have a feeling of "safety" with this vaccine. It will reduce the intensity, duration, etc. But it's not a "cureall" Only time will tell.....

Michele agree with you, pip and Machka. The vaccine will only prevent or minimize me getting sick, it won’t keep me from passing it on to anyone else. And you’re all right, it’s just too soon to know for sure. Going maskless won’t be a choice here in Oregon for the foreseeable future.

Kim: My mom made clothes for me in elementary school but junior high and high school required “store bought” things. I worked at picking berries and beans in the summer to help pay for my wardrobe. When I was 16 I was able to work in the cannery during the summer. Then I bought most of my own clothes.

This evening we watched the Super Bowl with both of our adult kids and their spouses. We were all at our own homes in 3 different states: Oregon, Illinois and Virginia. The game was in Florida. We watched the televised game together & chatted with one another via facetime & internet. The ability to share the experience as it was happening & chat with each other while we were all watching “together” was fabulous. It was amazing!!

Good Morning - woke up to a thin layer of snow this morning. Apparently we are going to have more snow and snow showers until at least Wednesday. I didn't go on the early morning dog walk this morning as it looked a bit slippy so DD took Leah out on her own. Mind you I worry about her going alone these days, there have been so many dog thefts recently. One woman had her arm slashed by a would be thief trying to cut the lead which was wrapped around her wrist. Thank goodness they didn't get the dog but the poor woman ended up at hospital for stitches! So many dogs and even puppies from gardens have been stolen, seems no where is safe.
I'm up to P11 so have a few pages to catch up.

I was woken in the early hours of Saturday morning by our cat Maggie, she had managed to catch a mouse and bring it through two cat flaps and very kindly deposited in my bedroom! I had to grab the cat and put her in another room, whilst trying to catch the mouse. It was hiding but I managed to catch it and put it outside. (Not the easiest thing to do at half past one in the morning ) In the morning I checked where I had left it, but it had died, I was hoping it would be okay and scamper off to its little mouse family
Maggie hasn't caught a mouse for years, when she was a kitten we nicknamed her Killer because she was always killing mice or birds. I hope this was just a one off, I don't want any more "presents" .
Going to make breakfast and try to catch up with a few more pages. Might need to crank up the central heating, it's freezing.

Thin layer of snow here too in the 'balmy' South! CO O O L D D D D !
Our house isn't brilliant in the very cold weather. Normally I don't leave the heat on overnight, but I did have it on last night. Our extension gets a bit chilly, even with the heat on.
I don't think the bin men will come today. Health and Safety. Pavements too icy.

Good Morning - Thank you for your friendship, Lovely Ladies! For those who have commented, I am still reading our thread daily, & it’s very important to me. I know I haven’t been posting as much lately - but when I have something to contribute, I will! We are fine here, just plugging along. We are a bit anxious over the wait for the vaccine, but trying to be patient and logical about it all.

I've tidied my desk area in the dining room! It really feels better.
I've organised my pyjamas and took the suggestion of using a deep drawer for them. So I'll have shoes in one deep drawer and pyjamas in the other.
I was able to put away a whole bunch of laundry ... filing it into the new system.
And I got into pullover sweaters and cardigans!
I cleaned out my work backpack.
We had friends visit to check out a few things my husband is doing with the garden.
And we went for a walk.
I also caught up on some paperwork.
Not bad for a day off.
Back to work tomorrow.

Pleased with myself for eventually getting round to my writing this morning. It was a struggle, but I managed over 400 words once I committed myself. Sometimes I just have to say, 100 words is better than nothing. The difference it makes to my day is incalculable. I did routine exercises then my German first, came on MFP, checked Facebook.......
Then I said, I just have to get to the page, and I did. 
It's not because I'm doing a particularly hard bit, in fact it's about a great holiday to Venice when I was 16. It's purely a writer's normal resistance and I know I'm by no means the only one. That helps me to know. I don't feel like a bad person. And ...... I did it!
Absolutely freezing here.

Katla - Yes, I agree, technology is wonderful. We also Zoomed yesterday, with the grandchildren. It was complete chaos and very frustrating, but so important to keep in touch. Bea was the easiest for a change. She drew us lots of dogs and cats, showing us each one as she did them. It was great! Max was a bit disengaged, and Edie was more interested in playing with the backgrounds, but it was still much, much better than nothing. We have agreed to have an 'accidentally on purpose' meetup in the park next weekend. We will see Nelly for the first time. We will keep our distance, as it's not officially allowed, but it will be 14 days since our jab and we haven't seen them at all since December. Can't wait!
I'm really missing a long chat with DDIL and son.

My kids were lucky as it was just before the time of designer labels and the chic thing was a pair of jeans and a baggy t shirt. They often swapped shirts. Which was great for my kids as I was by then a single mother. I had no money for extra clothes. I felt sorry for the next generation when labels took over everything.
I used to take groups of work study kids to visit schools. They commented that the rich kids were the worst dressed! That was true at my kids time, thank goodness. Dress down chic! It was a happy time of levelling down instead of conspicuous consumption. I hope that will happen again with attention paid to the environment.
For me there is nothing worse than enforced conformism. My kids school was a co-ed, comprehensive, with no uniform. Extremely strong in the Arts and even Dance. My younger son got the best GCSE levels in the Borough.
Kids in school uniform make me feel sick.....really. I am not a fan of conventional education at all. There has to be a better way. So many poor and deprived kids are primed to fail.

Interesting about difference of wealth visible through maintenance of uniforms. I worked for 7 months in a primary school where kids wore uniforms and it seemed like a leveller to my eyes. some kids were as poor as can be and others the opposite. one of the proudest 5th grade girls lived in a shantytown! I would never have suspected her lack of wealth had we not dropped her off on the school bus.
I think it depends for labels. I have never felt any real push to wear labels. it always seemed silly. when in middle school or so Calvin Klein jeans was becoming a thing but it seemed rather ridiculous. Why pay 70 dollars rather than 15 or 20 for jeans that are just jeans. Likewise I couldn't believe people would pay huge sums for a scarf with a name. I never got the torn-jeans fashion. I thought (and I guess now hoped) it would be a flash in the pan. It was only practical if you had a legitimately worn out torn thing that you could still wear a bit longer since it was trendy. Here it is definitely trendy in some circles to dress down, and wear things out. I'm glad.that was not the case for decades here.
@dlfk202000 150 sounds way better. sometimes on their websites the nutritional value is there.
