Running late today! Started work!
AF yesterday and AF today. Had a dream last night I was walking in an old scary neighborhood late at night, about to get to a liquor store. Then in my dream I decided to turn around and go back home. LOL. Never had a dream like that one!
@MissMay I will bet May is going to be a good AF month for you . Hat picture is cool.
@lmlmrn curious to know where you went on vacation? Hope you enjoy!
@chocolate_owl I wish I could grow in height! My BMI is 26 point something. I promise to report mid-month of any changes. I started intermittent fasting again (eating primarily between 10am and 6pm), usually 2 healthy meals. I think it will work now that I am too busy to eat!
@Womona, Enjoy those great times with your kids. I know the feeling of moving kids in and out of college dorms. Lot of times. Lots of furniture shopping and donating and shopping again and moving and shopping again.......then they switched schools....then they went on to grad school and medical school. I thought I was done and could retire! But noooo....they are moving again and soon there will be new home purchases and weddings and maybe grandkids. Momma job never ends. So back to work I go!!
@AR10at50 yes please do stick with us...I used to drink daily as did many others. Now my natural happiness has kicked in, and it's great not to have any dependency.
@dawnbgethealthy keep us posted on all those yummy indian dishes you are learning about. I am especially looking for lower-calorie/gluten-free Indian dishes. Love the spice and heat!6 -
It is an AF Monday for me this evening!
@MissMay - Love your hat! That is a great derby hat with the horse and ribbon. Was the turquoise material underneath in the pic your dress? My mom has a huge hat collection and wears one every Sunday to church (so she doesn't have to fix her hair LOL).6 -

@globalhiker
The restaurant has been open for 10 years and I have eaten there many many times. I had already tried all of the beef and chicken dishes - I don't eat fish or lamb.
I think that I mentioned that I had the Bhindi Masala last Thursday - There are so many of the vegetarian dishes that I had not tried yet. Bhindi Masala is Okra.
All dishes are Gluten free (except for Naan and Samosas of course). The batter for the pakora is chick pea flour.
Next on my list (I don't plan to eat the food more than once every week or once every 2 weeks because I am watching my girlish figure lol) will be the Aloo Gobi, Cauliflower.
They make the green chutney in large batches, one of the girls said that she thinks that they use yoghurt as the base. I don't know what the recipe is except for what Google tells me, which is that there are a gazillion ways to make it. I picked 3:
1. Cilantro, Green Chillies, Ginger, Lime, Cumin, Chaat Masala, Honey
2. Mint, Cilantro, Green Chillies, Garlic, Ginger, Cumin, Sugar
3. Shredded Coconut, Cilantro, Jalapeno, Mint, Lemon4 -
My May Goals:
16-20 AF days per month.
Saturday to Wednesday nights AF.
Allowing myself a few drinks Thursday and Friday nights.
My daily check in:
Saturday May 01 - AF - Working a split tomorrow at the restaurant.
Sunday May 02 - AF - Planning on AF until Thursday
Monday May 03 - AF - Early and long day tomorrow, going to try not to have a wee drink afterward.
Rolling total: 3AF out of 3 days5 -
As the weather gets nicer and we are able to resume outdoor activities and our lives become a bit busier all the MFP threads tend to be a little quieter.
BUT don't worry we are always here. If you have a question or need some guidance there willl always be a person to respond back to you.
Thanks for the hat thumbs ups. I make my own derby hat every year. Since my new thing this Winter was painting, I decided to make a painted hat overlay and put it onto an old bonnet. First time trying this and I see much room for improvement on construction. @Lilylady3k, no that turquoise is the sleeve of my husband sweater. I wore a light peach jacket to compliment the colors in the hat.
Last night we decided to go away for the weekend now thst we are both totaly vaccinated. In August we went away too and that was also a DRY month for me. This weekend it will not be a huge party where we are around big time drinkers like in August. I am confident I will remain AF even with this get away thrown in unexpectedly.4 -
@MissMay - I love that you painted the overlay for your hat ... even more creative!4

AF yesterday and same for today......
I am going to get myself outside and move before the daily madness begins!
Have a good (AF) day!

Went into the office yesterday. Around 11:30 I started having hot and cold flashes, my back got very achy, and I felt so physically tired that I was swaying like I was tipsy and had to focus on taking one step at a time going up the stairs. It was freaky. My husband took me home (so glad we work together because driving would have been scary) and I crawled in bed and fell asleep almost right away. Felt better after a long nap, feel fine today. I was super anxious I got a breakthrough case of Covid, but I never had a fever, and with how poorly I've been sleeping it was probably just exhaustion. Fingers crossed that today's a more normal day!7 -
Hello to all!
Today will be our last day visiting my sister and BIL up near Columbus OH, then we drive south to visit my daughter and family down towards Cincinnati OH. We will stay with them until Saturday when we will fly home.
So far AF for the month of May (and on vacation too) so this is a rolling 7 days AF
@MissMay I wish derby day around me were a thing, I would love to dress up and make my own hats!
will drop in when I can6 -
Here we go month of May! Am one week (8 days) into the 75 day challenge that I mentioned on the April thread. So far AF and havent been tempted so far. The last alcoholic drink (a beer) I had was on April 24. I honestly am finding other parts of the challenge more "challenging" than the AF part... that really tells me how much I have progressed since mid-March when I made the decision. It has been a total life change for me. For those who are new and havent followed the April thread, I was borderline alcoholic for the past couple of years. Especially in 2020, I think I would have had 1 drink if not more for 300+ days of the year. This thread and the motivation from reading everyone's stories and contributing has helped a lot. Thank you everyone! Always here if you want to talk...
May the Fourth be with you... Forever a Star Wars Fan!11 -
Went to an unexpected lunch today at a nice restaurant, and would have ordered wine if my friend did too. But glad I didn’t, I had a ton of errands to run before dragon boat practice tonight. Plus, I didn’t have a celebratory drink after practice now that the bar (where we dock our boat) is open for the season!
Tomorrow, lunch after tennis for Cinco de Mayo, and I plan to have a glass of wine.
May the Fourth be with you!5 -

Monday May 03 - AF - Early and long day tomorrow, going to try not to have a wee drink afterward.
Tuesday May 04 - 2 drinks. I didn't make it my 5AF in a row this week like I did the 2 or 3 previous weeks.
Rolling total: 3AF out of 4 days5 -
May accountability: 1/31 days AF
Alcohol: 3 days (8 drinks)
Goal: Limit 1-2 glasses per day; 12-16 AF days per month. Aim to drink no more than 2 nights in a row.

5/2 - 1 margarita
5/3 - AF
5/4 - 3 … 2 wine + 1 rum & diet coke
5/5 - Meeting up this evening with “Sisters Who Sip” for Cinco de Mayo at Be More Pacific - Filipino Kitchen and Bar. Our first monthly gathering in over a year. Plan is to limit myself to one cocktail.

5/6 - Virtual Whiskey Experience Tasting w/ DH’s team from work (samples provided)
5/7 -
5/8 - Hosting Mimosa Brunch Bridal Shower (providing non-alcoholic champagne option)
Challenging weeks ahead for food and drink as everyone gets back into the gathering mode and all my retirement activities kick back into high gear. Alumnae group which has monthly meeting as well as monthly bookclub, sisters who sip, dining out opportunities! I chair the book club. Then another alumnae group of ladies ... that also meet monthly where wine is usually involved. And I can't forget neighborhood bunco and another book club! Thank goodness for Lady Clay Shooters ... we don't drink or eat when shooting rounds of sporting clays.3 -

I hope your feeling better @chocolate_owl. Both my husband and I had "after shocks" from our covid injections around the 10 day mark. It wasn't as severe as the 24 hr period right after the vaccine. Although it did set us back a little.
That was lucky you had a ride hone and did not have to drive.4 -

@lmlmrn you are in my old neck of the woods. OHIO! I was born there and lived for 22 years. The Spring flowers and shrubs must be beautiful right now. Have fun.3 -
Happy Cinco de Mayo! In the spirit of the holiday, I am making fish tacos with homemade guacamole.
If the Mexicans didn't beat the French in the war at Puebla back in the 1800s, what would've happened? There was another war the Mexicans won over the Spanish, but that one didn't become a drinking holiday, so I wonder why.....hmmm
Looking forward to making mint chutney Dawn....it looks like a great low-calorie accompaniment to just basic potatoes or rice or chicken.
Yesterday was AF and same for today.3 -

This is a great post to hear. I was a daily drinker to, having more than the suggested number of drinks per day for years. When we as individuals have had enough and as you say want to make a lifestyle change, it can take place.
Thank you for sharing.6 -
Yes, happy cinco de mayo. Great facts @globalhiker on the background of today. How was your day outside yesterday?
We have plans to attend the festivities for today and eat up some tacos. On the plus side they serve Heineken00. Down side is they may confront my husband for making a scene there on derby day.
This will not deter me from enjoying my AF day and tacos!
AF streak 9 days so far ( going for the whole month of May)

Hello group! This is my first post
Today is day 3 of being AF. So far it's been ok and I'm already enjoying the benefits of no alcohol. I decided to go AF for awhile (no set goals yet) to fix a few things in my life:
- Drinking prevents me from exercising the nex mornnig as I feel awful and low energy when I awake.
- Drinking causes me to sneak to the kitchen late night to eat everything I can find.
- Drinking is becoming an expensive habit
I need to feel that I am in control of my life, and being AF certainly helps encourage that feeling!
I come from a solid family history of alcoholism and I feel the family disease has been getting a strong grip on me. It's time to change that script and learn to live life without alcohol being a major part.
I'm happy to have found this group. Roz10 -

Decided to take one more day away from people just to be safe. I tried going for a walk instead of going to the gym, but the new shoes I bought on Saturday didn't work out. I'll be taking those back and looking elsewhere this weekend. Why are exercise shoes so difficult? I can walk farther in heels than I can in some of these $140 pairs of sneakers! So many variables... Weight and cushioning and stiffness and side support and mm drops and on and on...If the Nikes I've been wearing for 5 years weren't starting to literally fall apart, I'd wear them forever.
No plans to celebrate Cinco de Mayo, but I do have some extra calories today. We'll see how a Corona Light with dinner (Taiwanese noodles, not exactly on theme) sounds tonight.6 -
5/1 - drinks
5/2 - drinks
5/3 - AF
5/4 - drinks.
Failing so far, but I'm not drinking tonight. I will lift weights instead and alcohol interferes with muscle growth.8 -

Spring is most definitely in the air in OH. I dam so surprised at how green and pretty it is. I have gone from the hilly north to the flatter south. I can see why folks flock to move here. But have to say it is a long way between 'towns' LOL

Oh my ... now I remember those days ... Sisters Who Sip monthly gatherings are back in full swing. Alumnae group ages 23-85 from many different schools. I was the oldest of the group last night. One dear friend close to my age is moving to Scotland in June hence I wanted to go and say goodbye. Lots of fun talking to everyone, getting to know the newbies, finding out how their jobs are going, changes in their lives, sharing pictures of my daughter's anniversary party, advising when asked about having children when I was in my 30s, terms I've not heard preload (active couple before kids) vs post load (having kids at early age and active couple in your 40s-50s) ... most were getting married in their 30s not 20s ... some were never planning to marry, catching up on all the pandemic romances LOL
I bought one drink (Morejito - rum haven, pineapple juice, mint, lime juice) but then accepted the tequila shot the restaurant sent over to each of us along with a Maestro DOBEL Tequila t-shirt. I sipped instead of downing it with the rest of the ladies.
The others were ordering 2-6 drinks during the 2.5 hrs. One lady had her husband walk over to drive her home after she had a few too many plus ordered a to go cup margarita. Half the group walked down to another bar when I left.
Not something I plan to do every month but it was fun to see those that came out. Restaurant/Bar worked well in that there was lots of outdoor space and the interior was open to the exterior with open floor to ceiling full wall glass doors.3 -

😊NOT FAILING😊
You had one unplanned drink night on the 4th.
May 1&2 were your weekend chosen drink days.
You were AF on the 3rd
I see accountabilty, calculations, and one little slip. You have 26 more days to make it better for yourself. Don't give up.8 -
I haven't touched a drop since the beginning of March.
So far I've saved $$$ which is being used to for my dream vacation12 -
May in Arizona is my favorite and in the next few weeks, the triple digit temps arrive and stay that way until October, yep. Everybody who can get outside now, does! @MissMay my morning exercise outside is always pleasant, especially with the cocophany of birds singing away. We have families of red finches, some cardinals, tons of quail, thrashers, doves, woodpeckers, and hummingbirds all living in my trees. It's pretty cool.
Then until the late Fall our air quality (ozone and particulates) becomes a health risk and has worsened a lot and we get "the brown cloud". If anyone wants to move to Arizona, try to seek higher elevation areas for better air. I do hope with the $$ I am saving not drinking to be able to fund summers away each year in cool places so that I will only need to live here in winter and spring. That would be amazing. I could hang out with @lmlmrn and @dawnbgethealthy
@chocolate_owl I have the same dilemma with running shoes. Since Covid, manufacturing quality went downhill big-time. Both podiatrist and PT told me all those new materials (fresh foam cushy stuff) is bad. The running shoes caused my foot injury (it's better). Now I am eyeballing trying the new Pegasus 28 I think to see if it's any better. Oh and don't get me started as to why running shoes are now $140 and up! Is it import taxes? I have no idea what is going on
AF yesterday and same deal for today.5 -
