Just got to buelton ca Flying flags. on our 3rd trip with “Bette “. I made some small adjustments so I could keep the counter top as free as possible. We put a shelf by the counter to store the iPads, put one inside one of the doors, put a shoe / clothes rack on the door for easy access. It’s harder to be creative in a smaller camper and we attached a mirror inside a door.

Machka-glad they can take a less aggressive approach with your husband. Mine was on them for a number of years. The first one he was on (I believe it was Zocor) did not agree with his system. For some reason, it made him smell! Like a towel he used after a shower would smell mildewed, and he develop a distinctive aroma (gross I know). I only mention it because some medications don't agree with some people-they switched brands and no more smell issues!
Vicki-glad your fall was not worse.
Allie-sorry your kidney news was not what you hoped. Will they try putting you on transplant list?
Pip-Yogi is indeed cool!
Had a productive day. Ended up having to deal with a few work issues via telephone so was not a complete vacation day, but got some odds and ends done that I have been avoiding.
Off to get ready for tomorrow-have to be at the office a bit before 7:30 am for a zoom meeting.
Take care all,

Worked today so no formal exercise. The plan for tomorrow is to do a body pump DVD
Rebecca – so glad you’re feeling better. I can’t wait to see/play with PJ, either
It supposed to start raining later today. So we shall see if I will have time after bowling to take a walk. Update: no rain, but we stayed and talked to the lady in charge of the bowling league so didn't get home until late and didn't have time to go for a walk
Of course, Jess called. She did mention that she wished we called her more often. I told her that to be honest, the reason we didn’t call was because we know that she’s busy studying and we didn’t want to interrupt her studying so we figured that she would call when she had free time. That’s the truth. I know that she’s really busy, especially with this being her clinical year and we didn’t want to interrupt her studies. But she said that if she couldn’t talk right then, she’d tell us. Still, if she’s in class I hate interrupting her. Maybe we can just text.
Vince is supposed to send her more Revolution. See, we get it from this place in Australia. It’s much less expensive and is the same stuff. As a matter of fact, I think it’s manufactured in the US. Anyway, she was saying how much Colby liked the oatmeal raisin cookies I sent him last time so I’ll probably send them to him again and make her some chocolate cookies. I’ll probably also buy some things at the store to send her, snack things.
I guess I totally forgot but Jess is moving AGAIN. I asked Vince if he knew why he said something about the location, that it wasn’t quiet or something like that. Well, whatever. I suspect Colby is paying for the move, but I don’t know for sure. The only thing I know for sure is that she hasn’t asked us for any $$ for the move.
Heather – don’t you hate those constant updates? Every once in a while my computer seems to lock up, won’t scroll etc. If I just do “control, alt, delete” and then tell it to cancel the command, that seems to unlock it. But what a pain!
M – I’m so glad to hear that it wasn’t something worse with your dh. I’m so glad he can still cycle
ariel...- welcome!
Cats: one time while we were watching Jess’ cat while she was in St. Kitts while Steve was here we couldn’t find Shadow (her cat) anywhere. Finally, Steve found her under the blanket in his room!
Vicki – so sorry about your uncle. Oh, no! A fall! Heal fast!
Debbie – that’s some egg! How many yolks did it have?
Allie (((HUG))). Did the doc say anything about dialysis?
Pip – I don’t like peanut butter, but I’d be willing to try that one! What are you doing to that poor boy???
Jess and Colby told me they sent me something for Mother’s Day. I never in the world expected what they sent me. They sent me an Instant Pot. I’m going to take it down to the condo since it’s only a 3qt one. That’ll do fine for down there. And then I can get rid of the slow cooker that’s down there. I’ve had that slow cooker since before Vince and I were married...and we’re going on 43 years!

Oh, Allie. I'm so sorry. No dialysis?
Hanging in there over here. Saw my mom this weekend. No change there. It's just hard to watch your parents age, but I know you all know that, so nothing new there.
I hope your husband continues to recover, Machka. That is very scary.
Wishing the best for everyone!

So behind. I just finished page 12. Wanted to send condolences to Rebecca and Barbara on the loss of their friends.
Barbara, a walk to the "power line" is one of our daily walks, too. I had a similar experience with my college roommate. I tried to find her over the years but she wasn't on social media and she didn't pop up. I tried again last fall and there was her obituary. She was only 66. Cancer. So sad! She was a beautiful woman and human being. I wish we had stayed in touch.3 -
Allie: I hope good things are headed your way. ❤️0

Looking for secrets to how folks stay on track with their weight loss and exercise? This year has been rough, working full time in a hospital through covid in nyc. Gained 20 lbs and can’t seem to get back my mojo3

Incorporate exercise throughout your day. I walk as part of my commute and at lunch. I climb stairs at work. I cycle, walk/run and/or row after work many days.

Meaningful May:
10: What values are important to you? Find ways to use them today. Honesty-gently sharing my point of view with T even though we differ on the topic.
Much nicer weather today, the wind persists but its temperature is much more pleasant. Joe suggested clearing the dried slala from the side yard would be a more effective use of my energy than picking up sticks from the drive. Whew, chopping brush is hard work!
Lisa OMG! Kelsey’s youngest is balanced on tiptoe atop his rocking horse’s head?!?
Kate stunning azaleas. Your, Heather’s and my husbands must be immortal sons from different mothers…
Ginny thankful you feel healed and are returning to your regular activities.
Heather I was startled when the trust officer made the point that passing property & $$ to surviving spouse is not the problem, but providing for if/when I’m incapacitated and no longer able to handle our finances is the issue. Supports my fears of pain and incapacity more than death, at least for now…
Machka thankful for the hopeful news from your husband’s cardiologist. Did he have any insight to what caused the blood pressure spike awhile ago? Cleaning is such a positive response to fear/worry/stress. Bravissima.
Katla excited for your DD’s and grands’ visit!
Rebecca give yourself grace to recover from #2. You’ll get your mojo back, and if you don’t just channel Athena Rose
Welcome @ariellapermail683 ! We’re glad you found us. Would you let us know what you’d like to be called and your general locale?
Vicki sorry for your loss. It’s a sad and lonely feeling when all our parent’s generation have gone ahead. Glad you didn’t break anything in the fall, too bad about the shiner…
Debbie sounds like your mom is keeping busy, a good thing, but expect eventually she’ll wind down and need you to help her grieve. Oh how I envy you your artichokes! Really must try to grow some here. Freddie’s wants $3.50 each!
Allie ((hugs)) that is a rough diagnosis. You’ve beaten the odds on everything else, bet you beat this too. ((hugs))
Pip your creative storage solutions, your multicolored, multitextured rug, and most especially love the flaked out Yogi.
Annie, “here we go again” brava. Picking up and starting again is key to success. Never ever give up.
Flea ((hugs)) it IS hard. ((hugs))
Kay “…I wish we had stayed in touch.” Ditto.
Welcome @andarbaar in NYC! If you find any secrets, please share! Would you let us know what you’d like to be called?
Woo hoo, is it good to have my own laptop back! Used Joe’s for the past two days while mine was getting its periodic tuneup and boy do I appreciate the faster startup, higher resolution and smoother, more responsive keyboard.
My strolling buddy suggested a walk this afternoon. I almost declined as my energy tanks after 1pm. Pulled up my big girl panties and said yes. We were both tired so didn’t do the last loop but it was enough to meet my daily goal. Another good choice, I was craving carbs after lunch, reaching for matzoh with butter, grabbed carrots, celery and dip instead. Fingers Xd this is the beginning of a trend

Morning, afternoon and evening, my chickens,

Thank you for keeping us posted. I know it does no good to lodge objections, but sometimes the world seems awfully unfair. You and your husband deserve a break.
Kate
That azalea is gorgeous.
Vicki
I'm sorry for your loss, and hope you're healing fast from the fall.
Pip
Yogi's smile is like no other. Gorgeous boy.
Barbara
Yep, he's her last, and he's going to make her glad she stopped having kids after him, I think. She says he piles stuff up, climbs up as high as he can go in an effort to make it over the top of whatever barrier they've set up to keep him in a given area, falls down, climbs up again. Only a week until they get here! Can't wait to see him and the other two. And my daughter of course. And her husband.
Yesterday was not a good day, gut-wise, but I'm hoping it was a one-off and that things will be fine today. If not, I'll have to decide whether to do yet one more round of antibiotics. I've got them in hand, but am really hoping my body can right itself. Am trying to give it time while still not letting it get too far. It cannot be a good thing to do round after ten-day round of antibiotics each month! My weight is staying steady, exactly the same as it was on May 1, so I know the bacterial overgrowth hasn't taken over, it's just rumbling.... and making me miserable. Fingers crossed today is a better day.
Whether or not I go to the quilting club depends on whether or not my gut is still OK at 9 a.m. If I do, I'm just going up to crochet and get to know the ladies. I'm not ready to begin hand quilting yet.
One more thing I need to get done before the kids get here next week - finish setting up the camper to make it comfortable and safe for them to sleep in it. I've cleaned it, and it's in pretty good shape overall, but they stopped their renovation of it at a stage that is not conducive to children running around in it. I'll have to see what I can accomplish.
Ack! Time to make Corey's lunch and get him out the door - leftover pizza, so super easy to put everything together.
Later y'all,
Love,
Lisa3 -
I am thinking of the moms here who have lost a child or a parent since last Mother's Day. Holding all of you in my heart. Also, hugs to those who have lost friends & other relatives.
Machka - admiring the way you handle stress. Also want to add that someday, even though it sounds odd to say, you and your husband may look at this heart attack as a blessing in disguise. Not much heart damage, and now on medical management and surveillance is such a good outcome compared to many heart attacks that involve the arteries to the left side of the heart. I can't help but think that his & your commitment to exercise despite his head injury has made all the difference with this latest episode.
Lisa - hope your gut behaves. I know it so annoying. I LOVE that you sold enough plants to buy groceries for the week. Enterprising you.
Pip - Yogi . And the chocolate-peanut-butter-tongue-loosening-whiskey...I knew there were all kinds of flavored vodkas, but I had no idea whiskey came in novel flavors! I really hope the tipsy/crying conversation with your mom leads to some resolution for both of you. Neither of you can undo what happened during those 10 years, but maybe some of the damage can be fixed. My Mom and oldest brother had a falling out that was never fully resolved. He came to see her the week before she died, but he kept his emotional distance from her. I was so close to my mom always, so it was hard to understand why there was a wedge between them.
Barbara - I hear you on the computer relief! I have had a tough time with electronics the last week, ending up with no phone and no personal computer through a series of nearly slapstick domino-effect events. Humbling and eye-opening to realize how much I depend on my phone & computer. A visit to the Apple Genius Bar this afternoon should resolve everything.
Debbie - wonderful artichokes. Envious of farm fresh produce.
Rebecca - I love watching Athena grow up. What a dolly.

My spouse and I are looking at retirement communities again, three in all, Leaning towards an apartment rather than a cottage. My spouse has some surgery-related mobility issues, and it will be easier for her to be independent if we live in the same building as the dining areas, gym/pool, hair salon, etc. It will probably be a couple of years before we move. In the meantime I am purging stuff. So much stuff. I admire that so many of the women here have streamlined belongings so efficiently. It's a lot of work, and we have generations of stuff to get rid of. My strategy is to keep plugging along.

Machka-glad they can take a less aggressive approach with your husband. Mine was on them for a number of years. The first one he was on (I believe it was Zocor) did not agree with his system. Thanks -- I'll keep that in mind.Machka thankful for the hopeful news from your husband’s cardiologist. Did he have any insight to what caused the blood pressure spike awhile ago? Cleaning is such a positive response to fear/worry/stress. Bravissima.
The blood pressure spike was very likely related to this same situation ... a pre-heart attack, so to speak. Because the arteries on the left side of his heart are narrow, when he did somewhat more strenuous exercise, it put his heart under greater strain to keep up.
On the day of the blood pressure spike, I ran on the treadmill and he rode his indoor bicycle, but he rode fairly intensely. He checked his BP about 2 hours later and it was really high, but it could have been high before that because it stayed quite high for a few hours.LisaInArkansas wrote: »Machka

Also the cardiologist did say that it is likely the facts that my husband does not smoke or drink, does eat a reasonable diet, and especially since he exercises regularly were responsible for there being minimal damage to his heart. He has encouraged him to resume cycling in a week, but just to take it easy.
Prior to this, his neurologists, neuropsychologist and other specialists have told us that exercise has been good for his brain recovery.
All the more reason to keep exercising!
I'll also add that his symptoms didn't mesh with what I thought a heart attack would look like. Granted, his was very minor, but I was expecting chest pain, gasping for breath, a greyish colour, cold and clammy, and ... based on what you see on TV ... collapsing or almost collapsing while clutching the chest.
This wasn't like that at all.
For all the world, it came across like indigestion or flu. He threw up minutes before I called the ambulance and told me that he felt much better and the pain went away ... and then it came back. If he hadn't had the high blood pressure incident 3 weeks earlier, I might have hesitated longer calling the ambulance.
