Nice run @Scott6255 !
Great run @Tramboman !
@pfeiferlindsey I'm sure that was a tough 4 miles. Hope you have recovered tomorrow.
Finally back to the HM plan - rest day on Sunday. LOL I did walk 1.0 mile at a 3.5 mph pace. I'm still really tired. Getting more sleep would help that. And, now I have laryngitis. My throat's really not sore and I've only coughed a little. I just can't talk. It's really weird. One of these days I'll get back to normal, I hope.8 -
Checking in from Tx where apparently it is MONSOON season. LOL. Got 1.3" of rain since last night. Buttt... I did manage to sneak in a 10 milers today to put me at 105.59 for the month against a goal of 200. It's going to be tough because I do not like running in the rain and that is the entire forecast for the rest of the month.
I guess I can't complain because it is warm out so the only thing I worry about is ruining my shoes.
Speaking of which yesterday I used a new on sale pair of nikes different model than I had been the last year and my 4 mile pace was LIGHTNING. I got no explanation except the shoes.
Just as a sort of comparison which I think yall as runners will understand I look at year to year pace and distances. This would not be such a big deal if I was new to running but for someone who has run off and on (mostly on) for over 35 years and never really improved much it is huge. The green is 2021 pace and the right side is pace for the same date in 2020. Overall I am on target to get 40 % of my splits under 10 min pace this year. Last year I was lucky to break 11. I really chalk it up to doing a lot more sprint work and 2 per day runs. Or it could just be the shoes....
10 -
Congrats @SummerSkier that is a very large jump in one year for an established runner!
Hope you are quickly on the mend from that laryngitis @quilteryoyo3 -
Sorry to leave y'all hanging! It's been a busy day.
RACE RECAP:First race since September! First day of "no masks required outside". The neighboring town had a huge fire years ago that destroyed a lot of the town, and they now commemorate it with a night 5k - this year it was in a closed-off skate park with "no spectators", and firefighters holding torches to light the route. There were 4 separate waves of 125 people each, with an hour between start times, and the course map even listed how many volunteers from each sponsoring group were allotted to stand at each location (almost like they knew ahead of time exactly what the regulations were going go be).
On my drive there, I passed 2 guys running along the main road and wondered if they were going to the race. They were - I later saw them as they arrived. They had about 7 km to go from where I passed them, and weren't from my running club, so I don't know where they started from, but they added at LEAST 14k to the 5k race. Now that's a warmup!
My race (wave 1 with a 9pm start) was pretty uneventful, it was just great running with people and not having to deal with the mask. It was 5 laps of a 1-km rollerblade course, with only a slight bit of elevation change, which of course felt almost flat on the first lap, and got steeper with every lap. I went a little too fast on the first 2 laps, which I didn't fully realize until lap 5 when I saw that people I had been steadily passing were now passing me - and it wasn't that they had sped up, I was slowing. I wasn't too concerned though, as I was well within my time goal. Just had to hold on for that last lap.
There were 2 fast guys I don't know from the running club also running, and another friend ran in a later wave, but I didn't stick around. The organizers wanted us to leave anyway because they were trying to keep numbers down. I got top 10 in my age group for my wave, not sure how that stacks up with the other waves. Not bad for me
To finish out my night, on the drive home I heard a remake of Bohemian Rhapsody on the radio, followed by a long discussion about it in Czech, which I hardly understood. The group (Pentatonix) didn't use any instruments other than their voices. I mean, they're very talented, but to me you can't just remake that song and try to copy it note for note. So I needed to go home and YouTube the original to feel better 😆
Today was a rest day: church, Food Truck Festival(!), and some friends came for coffee. I need to get to sleep, but am still full of energy for some reason.
Pictures - check out how fast I was going in the finish line photo, LOL.12 -
Great race report and congrats @Polskagirl01! The first wave started at 9:00 pm? I could never race over there - way past my bed time!3

So far we haven't had any of the storms they were predicting. We did get 3/10 an inch of rain. It was nice this morning so I went out and ran 6.25 miles even though I ran yesterday. I didn't run long yesterday so my weekend mileage was about average. Right now I am on track to hit my goal this month. I'm hoping to get some runs in this week but we'll just have to see. My son and his girlfriend are going to Denver next weekend so they are coming here first so we can watch Ein the Corgi. I'm pretty excited about seeing them.
Great race race report @polska_girl! And great job on your race!

Nice improvements @SummerSkier ! I hope they are wrong about the forecast and you can find some non-rain running times.
Thanks @WhatMeRunning . It's very frustrating, especially trying to talk to mom who can't hear well anyway.
Great racing @polskagirl01 ! You were lightening at the finish line. Congrats on being in the top 10 for your wave.
Glad you got in another run today @kgirlhart ! I know you are going to enjoy seeing your son and his girlfriend.4 -

Thanks @rheddmobile @quilteryoyo @WhatMeRunning and @Scott6255. I actually hiked over the weekend at 2 different places then where I fell. I honestly don’t think I’ll ever be able to go there again, the first place I went Rainbow Mountain I have never been before and I turned towards the parking lot because I was getting tired of all the ankle twisting rocks and starting to climb next to a creek sort of like where I fell but on a smaller scale. I wouldn’t even look at the creek. I was happy thought my ankle was okay yesterday after all the turning it did. I was happy to go on Sunday for 5 miles at my old stomping grounds with my friend, we thought we’d run but once we got there we were chatting away because we haven’t seen each other in almost a year so we really enjoying walking and talking, it was good to get my feet on the trails there. When we pulled up to the gate to enter the guy who mans the gate was like girl where have you been, I said oh that’s a very long story for another day but I’ve miss you and the pup (he has a sweet dog that comes to work with him).
@pfeiferlindsey that is definitely a good note to yourself.
@polskagirl01 I’m thinking I wouldn’t have hung around that cemetery either ha ha. There are some songs that should just be left alone…anything by Queen is one of them. Great race! Nice picture, you are moving, love the medal. Ha ha @Teresa502 you and me both
@kgirlhart forecast of 9 day so rain, yuck @SummerSkier yuck on all your rain too, just don’t put them in the dryer let them air dry and they will be good. If you take in inner soles out and put newspaper in them they will dry rather quickly. You’re doing great

After the most glorious running day yesterday - cool, clear and still - today is cold and very gusty with sunshine and drizzle at short and unpredictable intervals. Happy it's a rest day.
I'm off to the physio to try and sort out my hip/ankle/foot. Have also booked an osteo appointment for Wednesday. I thought I was getting better but yesterday's long run showed my I wasn't. I'm pretty confident it's my hip, but unjamming it is quite tricky. Fingers crossed it comes right quickly.7 -
Ahhh been crazy with work the last few days. I think that illness I had really took the stuffing out of me, I felt awful for my long run Saturday and just didn't run well. Rest day yesterday and I was exhausted. Mentally and physically. Today I feel like a new person. I had energy, and just feel better. I went for a 1hr run at around 12pm in the pouring rain - dodging thunder storms. It was fantastic. And my HR stayed green for the bulk of the run, rather than straying into the orange which it has done the last week. So apart from the occasionally annoying cough I think im finally over it.
That said, last night at work I dropped my phone and think I damaged the screen. It's a couple of years old but still had a lot of life. After the drop the screen would randomly do weird things, including calling my BFF at 11pm! Fortunately she's always awake at that time of night. I investigated fixing it but would have cost as much as the phone is worth, and also take over a week. And because I'm on call over the weekend I decided to just buy a new phone. I need something reliable.
So spent most of today figuring that out. Turns out my priority was getting garmin set up! Pro tip - if you don't disconnect your watch from your old phone, it won't connect to your new one. I won't tell you how long it took me to figure that out.
Camera isn't as good as the old one but meh doesn't matter.don't believe the sunshine, its lying to you!7 -
Great race report and congrats @Polskagirl01! The first wave started at 9:00 pm? I could never race over there - way past my bed time!
Wave 1 sold out pretty fast, I was glad to get into it. Felt bad for the midnight Wave 4 runners. But it had to be dark for the torches to make sense, and we get a cool high-vis vest in the packet. I'll probably use it a lot for cycling, as it fits better than the ones I have.
Today I did 8.5 km in the rain on one of my standard road routes. My hip botheres me for the first 7 km, then suddenly everything just felt better. So I made sure to do the PT routine and feel fine now. I really don't like doing all that stretching, but if it keeps me running, ok.7 -

Feeling much better now! A lingering cough but my head finally feels much clearer. My 10 year old son actually went with me today - he's been asking for a while now but he's usually not up early enough. But today he committed to getting up and was actually ready to go before me. I'm still doing Couch to 5k and he was able to do the shorter intervals without taking a break to walk. He's very, very active otherwise, but the idea of doing a steady, measured pace for any preset length of time is antithetical to his nature. But we had fun and he wants to come with me again.10 -
Hope you have a great visit with your son @kgirlhart
@polskagirl01 - Someone should let the race organizers know that they need to use high-speed cameras to try and catch you whizzing past the finish line
Someday I want to be like @AlphaHowls No lie!
So happy to hear you are feeling back to your healthy self again @Avidkeo and hope you enjoy the new phone. Phone camera seems to work just fine!
Hope that physio can help with the foot/ankle/hip issues @ContraryMaryMary6 -

The rain ended just in time for me to get out an run this morning, and I felt good enough to attempt it. Had no issues whatsoever with my gait or discomfort. I took a different route towards the paved streamway trails to check for any flooding to determine the best route, and it turned out all of the normal paths were clear save for a few puddles too large to avoid. Those parts were the most fun though.
I ran for a different amount of time (45 minutes) because this downtime gave me some extra time to analyze the last several weeks and it looks like I am ready (and long overdue) for some higher HR efforts. So my overall "mileage" (more accurately my time spent running per week) will stay the same as where it had been on this last training cycle but the overall effort will be going up by adding in tempo efforts and sprint intervals.5 -
@polskagirl01 Great race report. I like the idea of a night race and have toyed with the idea of a couple in my area, but have never done one. I am asleep before 10 usually, so it would definitely be a weird time to run. But it seems cool because they usually have a neat "thing" like the torches, or a headlamp trail race, or lots of glowy things on the racers. Fun stuff.
Looks like a bunch of people are sharing my rainy week forecast. I don't mind running in the rain at home. But this weekend is my trail race and its supposed to be off and on raining there all week too. I have never been there so I have no idea how those trails hold up to moisture but I am preparing for the worst. I never expected to have a fast race because I figured it would be hot. I am staying at an airBnb close enough to walk to the race site. That may end up being a really good thing because I may be so muddy I wouldn't want to get in my car.8 -

I don't think I've updated since last week. I took Friday and Saturday off from running because I was 1) tired and 2) busy. I did a strength class and long walk on Saturday. Sunday I did my HM for the 2021 HM a month challenge. It wasn't a race, just completing the distance with some friends. It was a gorgeous morning and we had a lot of good conversation and it actually seemed to go by pretty quickly. I suggested a route that I had taken a couple of times that is about an 8 mile loop, but I couldn't swear to it exactly, so my friends were skeptical when we started it out and we were already 5.5 miles in, but it turned out well. I was pretty right on so we finished 13.1 with a few tenths to spare so we had a nice cool down walk. Next month's is a race on June 5 so that will come up quickly.5 -
@skippygirlsmom I don't blame you for not wanting to go back to where you fell. That would be scary. But, glad you are able to brave any trail. That takes courage. And, more glad that your ankle is all good!
@ContraryMaryMary Hope you get your hip unjammed quickly!
Glad your energy is back @Avidkeo! Sorry about your phone. Hope you enjoy your new one.
Glad the stretching is helping your hip @polskagirl01 !
Nice running @Teresa502 !
@penguinmama87 Must be fun running with your son. You are setting an excellent example for him.
@WhatMeRunning Glad you were able to get out and run with no issues.
@martaindale I hope the trail conditions aren't horrible with all the rain.
Glad you are feeling better @pfeiferlindsey !5 -
Had a busy day today. Dropped Tippy off at the vet this morning for her follow up appointment.
Came home, changed clothes, and ran driveway laps. Today was a Fast Finish Run....25 minutes easy pace followed by 5 minutes at a moderate pace. I'm glad paces are relative. It was the first run since being sick. I did better than I thought I would, as far as my legs and stomach go. Breathing was a little difficult though - probably the laryngitis that is going away. My overall pace was slower than a turtle, at 13:59 min/mile! Oh well. The point was to get the run in. Also walked a total of one mile for warm up and cool down.
Cooled, washed off, changed clothes, and left to pick up mom for her echocardiogram at 12:30. (I was home for 2 hours total.) After it was complete, we did a little grocery shopping, bought some flowers for dad's grave for decoration Saturday, and they dropped back by the vet to pick up Tippy. The medicine is helping her thyroid to function properly, so that's good. (In case you don't have "decoration" in your area, it's a weekend when everyone places flowers on the graves of their loved ones. The people in charge of cemetery/grave yard maintenance are there to collect donations to help keep it looking nice. There is no set fee for families to pay over the year.)
Got home, changed clothes, and left to go back to mom's to do the push mowing. My brother mowed the open spaces with his big mower yesterday. My neighbor that helps out did the weed eating today too. That's done for another week. I got home for good at 5:45. I should sleep good tonight.8 -
You sure were busy @quilteryoyo. Wish I had your energy!
6 miles this morning. Was raining when I got up, so decided to treadmill it today. Should have gone out....would have been dryer. But did have a few minutes of feeling smooth and effortless, so that's a win. Just like golf. Most of the time I feel like it is a struggle, but then there is that one shot that feels so smooth and effortless that it makes you keep coming back. I know you know what I mean @Tramboman

If I’m going to be a member of the 100-mile club this month then I need to start running more during the week since my weekends are focused more on hiking right now. It was a nice 57F this morning with a cool breeze blowing and a couple of rain sprinkles as I was finishing. I saw a deer and a skunk. No humans.

Sunny, mid 50s F and no wind today. Ran well.
Yesterday I went to the chiropractor for X-rays; today I go back to have the X-rays analyzed and 'splained to me. Looking forward to both the diagnosis and treatment plan.
Today I talked briefly to a young woman I often see while running. She said I was an inspiration. It's the little things that put smiles on our faces and keep us trudging along.
When you pop in here claiming your December 2021 mileage, what accomplishments will you have made?

Today was the first sticky, humid run of the year at 63 degrees F and 100% humidity (dense fog). It felt like a bit of a slog but it looks like my pace did quite well all things considered. Now if only it wouldn't get any hotter than 63 degrees until the nice fall weather returns...4 -

@Tramboman you are an inspiration to me! Hope the chiropractor has some good news for you.
