Went for a run with some girls from running club this evening. I was early and did a few rounds on the track, then we ran to the park, stopped for refreshments (fruity alcohol-free beer), then ran back. Their easy pace is my 5k pace, so I count it as a tempo run and my speedwork for the week.
For the rest of the week, I plan to give it one more try on the route for the current virtual trail race put on by the running club (probably Thursday), and then do my May HM on Saturday. On the other days I'll rest and stretch. If I succeed, it will put me over my 40k for the week7 -
Yesterday I went to the chiropractor for X-rays; today I go back to have the X-rays analyzed and 'splained to me. Looking forward to both the diagnosis and treatment plan.
Today I talked briefly to a young woman I often see while running. She said I was an inspiration. It's the little things that put smiles on our faces and keep us trudging along.
@Tramboman you are an inspiration to me! Hope the chiropractor has some good news for you.
Well, I lived through the first set of adjustments, so things are looking up.5 -

Well that little run felt all off today. I wasn't going to run at all but decided to just get a short one done quickly after work. I was in such a hurry to get out the door and get it over with I didn't really think anything through. Soon after I started I thought "why does this feel weird?" and realized that I had forgotten to take my glasses off for one, and had forgotten my phone and headphones. Ah well, just a short run so I kept going. My legs felt all wobbly and uncoordinated today, a little bit of shin pain was back, and it just felt HARD. I had a planned loop which I dragged myself through, and an extra part I intended to add on if I felt like it. I did not. Tomorrow's another day.

@Scott6255 Sometimes I wish I had my energy! LOL Glad you had a good run.
@Teresa502 I'm not sure I'd stress over running 100 miles this month, since you are do so many other activities. It's not like you're chillin on the couch.
@Tramboman I agree. You are an inspiration. Hope you got some good news from the chiropractor.
@polskagirl01 Running with those ladies are going to make you so much stronger/faster. Glad you seem to be enjoying it.
Great use of your time @sweetdaisy13 !
@katharmonic We all have those days. I hope you shins are okay and tomorrow is a much better.
I didn't have a lot of time for exercise today, so chose to just walk a mile in the neighbor's field with Tippy. Tomorrow is a busy day, but I hope to be able to get a run in early, before I have to be out and about. BTW, I am feeling a lot better today. Tums after meals seems to be helping some.

Chiro says I'm adjustable, so there's good news.
After today's adjustment, I got to a stop sign and looked both ways -- pain free.

I was too tired to post yesterday. I didn't sleep well Sunday night. The storms came in and my collie who is terrified of thunder kept me up all night. I usually take Mondays as rest days but decided to go ahead and run. It was actually still stormy when I first woke up, but I dozed for a bit and I was going to just do yoga but when I got up and slipped on my house shoes I noticed one was full of dog slobber. I was really tired and my mood was not great and I just wasn't feeling Yoga so I decided that since the storms had passed and the radar was clear I would go for a short run. I didn't really have much time before I had to get ready for work, but I ran to the park and managed to get 3.25 miles run. It was a good run. Since I went later than usual it was already light outside which I enjoyed. And I ran pretty fast and it really improved my mood. I'm glad I ran yesterday because this morning it was stormy and there was lots if thunder and lightning so there was no opportunity at all for me to run this morning. I did get a nice walk in at lunch, but decided today was a good day for a rest. I'm hoping it won't be stormy tomorrow morning. I guess I'll just have to wait and see.

I went to a new osteo today who was fab - he actually began training as a physio before switching codes, so to speak, so offers a well rounded service - thorough diagnosis and testing, massage, manipulation and a few (quite a few) adjustments, all followed by exercises and cross training recommendations.
He got a lot of clicks and clunks out of my hip and back, and manipulated my problematic foot (with a fair amount of pain and a lot more clicking) and now I feel a million times better - I didn’t quite realise how lopsided I had gotten.
Coach has backed this up by cancelling all running for the rest of the week, subbing in yoga and mobility sessions. I’ll hop back on the horse on Sunday with a gentle 30 minute run. Doing all I can. Hoping for the best.10 -
@Tramboman Glad you are adjustable and were able to twist pain free.
Glad the run improved your mood @kgirlhart. Hope you were able to get in a run this morning.

Should be able to meet my goal as long as I get the rest of my scheduled runs in!
My son came with me again today but it was a little colder and it made him much less enthusiastic, ha! There's some older gentlemen we usually see walking and they teased him a little bit and I don't think he liked that very much, even though it was obviously well meant on their part.
We got a late start because I slept through my alarm, which almost never happens (I usually wake up before it goes off). I was having a really bizarre dream and my alarm was incorporated into it, which I realized when I woke up and it was still going. But I can't remember what the dream was about now!

Details of my situation are in the nutritional accountability thread on the Challenge group forum. TLDR version my mom is in the hospital with pneumonia and it’s not going great.
My run day was Monday but I didn’t manage a run, did get out for a brief hike in the woods across from the hospital. Got up early the next day in order to get in a trail run on the way out to feed horses (2 hr drive I’ll be making daily while my mom is in the hospital) and had a very nice run, although I was so off-schedule and stressed I didn’t push for 5 miles, instead ran most of 4 and walked a couple.
It wasn’t supposed to rain until afternoon but started up in the middle of our run, which turned out to be beautiful. Some people talk about enjoying running in the rain but I never understood it, because here the rain is almost always either freezing and windy, steamy and dank like a sauna, or accompanied by continuous air-to-ground lightning. A nice soft spring rain like yesterday is very rare! My husband remarked that one of the nice things about being a runner is you get out and enjoy days that other people write off as bad weather, and that was true yesterday - we only saw one other person the whole time we were there, another runner. We passed and my husband said, “Beautiful day!” and the guy said, “I know!”
We saw three night herons, which were hunting frogs in the shallow water beside the trail. They would fly further down the trail in front of us as we approached, then have to do it again as we caught up to them. I think we were very irritating to them!12 -

The stars were shining brightly this morning and as it got daylight the horizon was a beautiful pink and purple. Forecast called for cloudy skies so it was a nice surprise. One vehicle passed me during my run and I saw 4 deer. I think I may have interrupted their flight path….
Thanks for your wise words @quilteryoyo - Everyone here is so supportive of each other. Keeps me coming back time and time again! Glad you are feeling better. (FYI – the burping stayed with me for almost two weeks after the bug and I’m not a burper either!)
@katharmonic -Hope you’re back in the groove today.
Glad you’re seeing some improved flexibility after just one chiro visit @Tramboman! Hope you get treated to a Diet Pepsi today!
@kgirlhart – my kitty is terrified of the thunder also so I feel your pain. Glad you got a short run in to improve the mood!
Sounds like a great treatment session @ContraryMaryMary. Glad coach is listening to you!
@penguinmama87 – how old is your son? I hope he sticks with the running with you even if not every day.
@sweetdaisy – great use of your time and awesome pace!
@polskagirl01 – I talked to a friend yesterday who did some pub to pub runs recently. I don’t know how people can drink, run, drink, run, etc. I fear that I would be throwing up!
@pfeiferlindsey – Glad you got a run in before the rain started. I really don’t mind running in the rain especially after I’ve started. Getting out in it to start is the hardest part for me.
@WhatMeRunning – Humidity can be more brutal than the temp for sure!

@penguinmama87 – how old is your son? I hope he sticks with the running with you even if not every day.
He's 10. He wants to go out for cross country in the fall at his new school (we homeschool right now, and with that plus Covid he hasn't had much opportunity for organized sports, so he is really excited about having them available!) He's very active and spends a lot of time outside and running around, which is exactly what kids his age should do, IMO. I don't quite know how it will go, but my thought is: he can try it, and if he hates it, it's only for one season and he can say he gave it a shot. And running with me, when he wants to, can give him a little bit of a taste of what to expect.2 -
I'm joining in even though i've never visited this board before. I started a Garmin coach programme for 10k two days ago to get back into regular running, and especially running more comfortably again. I've chosen the 10k timed run with coach Amy.
For those that don't know this: there are three coaches to chose from: one for run/walk/run, one with training based on time and one based on distance. I can't do run/walk/run, and I'm a slow runner, thus would not have gotten closer to goal distance. I've chosen the slowest finish time goal because I can run 10k and don't need the just finish a 10k programme. I'm just rubbish at it at the moment. I know I won't even manage the slowest finish time 7:30min/km and the confidence level garmin displays will tank. But that doesn't matter.
Thus, so far I did a very short benchmark run that I've placed between my current 10k pace and the target pace (instruction said to go fast, which I ignored). And a short and slow get back into running run, which I for reasons of being restless did far too fast. Tonight there'll be a slow 5k. I'll update here.11 -
So sorry to hear about your mom @rheddmobile. I hope things turn around for her soon!

Sorry for the late reply guys! Yeah, I decided to lurk and see how everyone was doing...it's been a while, for sure.
I'm still out there running, racking up the monthly mileage, and slowly starting to dread the arrival of the Texas heat again...but I gotta train through the summer for Boston in the fall.
Hope you're all doing well, and run safe my friends!9 -
@penguinmama87 Glad your son went with you again. I hope the teasing doesn't put him off. Funny about the dream and the alarm. Most reams are fleeting, once we wake up. I used to have a pen and paper by my bed to write them down when I woke up, if they were "interesting."
Sorry about your mom @rheddmobile . Glad you had a good run in the spring rain.
Thanks @Teresa502 . Glad to know that I'm not alone with the burping thing. So strange. Glad you had such a nice run.
Welcome @yirara ! Maybe I should look into the Garmin plans. I do the run/walk method. I didn't realize they had a plan that incorporates that. Right now I'm sort of combining the Matt Fitzgerald HM plan with the one the AF HM put out for beginners. But, I am taking walk breaks, which aren't called for in either of those plans. So, I guess you might say I'm doing my own thing. LOL
Great job of hanging in there and getting it done @WhatMeRunning !

Have a look here for an overview to see if it's for you: https://www.myrunnerslife.com/garmin-coach/garmin-coach-complete-guide-to-the-coaches/
If I manage to finish this with Amy and like it I might switch to the half marathon plan without finishing time. This whole thing looks flexible enough: If the weather isn't good, or running gets too much I can move runs to other dates or just completely delete it. It gives me something half structured though, and some accountability (give me a virtual badge or a reminder, and I do it ). Well, and if the app is convinced I won't be finishing in the target time then that's fine with me. I know I'll likely not be able to run that fast.4 -
Thanks @yirara. I looked it up and would love to try the Jeff Galloway plan, but my Garmin is a Forerunner 235 which doesn't support running coach. Oh well.
I had contacted someone about pressure washing my house. He said he would do it one day this week, but wasn't sure which day, which was fine with me. I just needed to know so I could allow him access. So, he calls me at 6:40 this morning to let me know he'll be here between 8:30 and 9:00. I was still in bed, but only half asleep. I had planned to get up at around 7 so I could run this morning because I have some meetings with/about my cousin this afternoon and taking mom to church this evening. I just went ahead and got up, ate a banana, and got out the door before 8am.
Tippy and I did my warm up walk to open the gate. Then I did 3 miles, easy pace, on the driveway, anticipating the contractor's arrival at any moment. Finished with a cool down walk and he still wasn't here. He had gotten delayed and showed at 9:30. He'll be here all day. Fortunately, Tippy is good with him, so I'm not worried about the two of them being here together when I'm gone.
The run was a very slow pace, but my HR did not cooperate today. I tried to keep it under 153, but that was not going to happen today. Somedays, it's just like that. It pretty quickly ramped up to around 160 and stayed there for most of the run. The overall average HR was 163. I guess that's not horrible.
The run itself wasn't too bad. I actually felt pretty good until around 2.5 miles. Then I started to just want it done.5 -
ah bugger, @quilteryoyo1
-
Welcome @yirara! Your goals sound great. We have runners of all speeds here. (I’m also a slow runner)
@penguinmama – I love seeing kids playing outside. Glad he’s giving the running a try even if he decides it’s not for him right now. I hated running in school and, several, several years later, I pay to run races. Who is this person?
Hope your mom is improving @rheddmobile.

So sorry to hear about your mom @rheddmobile. Hoping for a quick recovery!
Welcome @yirara. I also have an old FR235. But it does what I need it to do (for now).
Good to see you @garygse! I hear ya about training in this Texas heat! But it will be worth it when you are strong and ready for Boston in the fall!4 -
You All - I am so excited I have to share...
I got an email early in May from my favorite shoe brand, Topo Athletic, about a Mother's Day give away. One of those things where you follow them (I already did), like the post on Instagram, comment and tag a friend. I have never won anything and usually don't bother but this time I thought, 'why not'. Tagged my daughter and forgot all about it.
Well I won!!! A free pair of my choosing. I have already been looking and think I may get these but they are out of stock right now in my size. They also typically release their new models in late summer so I may wait until then. I have until the end of the year to decide.
ETA - these are the Magnifly-3 and are 0-drop. I typically run in the ST-3, also 0-drop but these have a bit more cushioning that I think I would like.

Garmin coach Amy had me run an easy 4.88km. Of course I had to do 5, and it was fairly slow, with a low HR (for me) and it felt easy. It was probably the easiest and most relaxed run in a long time, with lowest HR in a long time. Garmin classified it as a tempo run. Ho hum.7
