Beth we have a counter convection oven. I did not know could be used as air fryer. Agree about counter since we had to clear everything for painters. I learned paint is getting even more expensive and in short supply. I am glad it is getting done. I will get a bid for the high painting job from this team.

Such joy in being done with chemo. So pleased for that for you. A plethora of warm and wonderful thoughts headed your way for a quick, successful surgery and pain-free recovery. Thinking of you.
Tracey -
I'm with you. Over the pain, ready to get my life back.
Beth -
50% weight-bearing is awesome - when you told us what originally happened, I just sat there with my mouth open reading it and re-reading it. You're one tough cookie.
Sue -
Hope the days get better. It took me two years to stop weeping over my mother's death. Unfortunately, it replaced every other emotion. Didn't matter whether it was happy or sad, frustrated or giddy--they all brought tears. Talked to a counselor--she advised me to take my mother's journals, take a weekend at a hotel so I was away from everyone else, read the journals, walk through her living world with her, and allow myself to finally grieve that she was no longer there. It was enormously helpful.

Eagerly looking forward to the pictures!

Those northern lights were incredible! Thank you for sharing that. Nice to have you back - you were missed!
Typing when you're stoned on a pain pill is occasionally hilarious, I'm finding. Good thing touch typing is so ingrained in my muscle memory. Not sure I could find any given word key by key!
Accomplished a few things this morning, was still feeling well enough to go down to Walmart and pick up a few things... but by the time I got back, the spasms were bad enough to lay me down. That helped some, but then my system went completely doolally, and I gave up and took one of my two remaining pain pills. Still not coming up with a viable substitute, and it appears I'm going to need it.
But... for now I'm just letting that trouble go until I get there. Wisdom through pharmaceuticals? Sure, why not.
Love y'all,

Rain, rain, rain, rain ...
Over 40 mm of rain last night and still going. This October has been incredibly rainy, and unfortunately a lot of it has been on weekends! We'll have had at least 150 mm by the time the month ends (the average is about 65 mm).
Homework ...
I did hours and hours and hours of homework all the way through school, college, uni, etc. etc. The only time I have not done homework is if the course is a little, usually free, "for information" thing like my recent "Understanding TBI" course.
I remember coming home after school in Grades 11 and 12, especially, sitting down at my desk at 4 pm and doing homework right through to midnight, with only a short break for dinner. Mainly math. For some reason, I really struggled with math and ended up graduating Grade 12 with about 56% in math, even after all that work. I just didn't get it. My math teacher even told me that whatever I did, I should not go into any careers that involve math.
And I believed him for a while.
Then I took an Engineering Tech course ... and nailed the math classes with 100%. Then I took a Business Admin course ... and nailed the math classes with 100%. Then I took a Software Development course ... and nailed the math classes with 100%. Then I took math as part of my Bachelor of Education, and did really well (80%+).
And then I realised it probably wasn't me, back in high school, it was probably the instructor!
So I can see the idea of no homework ... IF the instructors are really good and can explain things in such a way that students get it.

I am now one week out from my last chemo treatment, and beginning to feel back to normal. It is such a reassuring feeling to know that I will keep feeling better now; at least I won't have to go through another week-after-chemo feeling. I know recovery from surgery is not going to be pleasant, but there is an end to that, as well.
My pre-op appointment is this afternoon at 3:30. I am more nervous than I should be. I keep waiting for them to turn me away as hopeless. The insurance company has already pushed back, but maybe that's just them being the insurance company. Soulless. The surgery is scheduled for two weeks from tomorrow. It is really time for me to get my desk cleared of pressing projects. I am hoping to be approved for four weeks of medical leave, but I would take six. That would keep me out until Christmas break, so I wouldn't go back to work until the first week of January. I might even have some hair back by then! I'm totally over the wig. I hate it. I wear it only when I go to work, but that is still 4 or 5 days a week.
Oldest son has moved to the final stage of the paramedic program acceptance process. On November 12 (!!) he has a skills assessment, essay, and interview. He should sail through those. I would rest easier knowing that he is on a positive path. His EMT job is going very well. So I think he has found his calling -- turns 26 in January, so I guess it's about time!
Middle son has moved to Eugene with friends and still looking for work, although he has begun training as a wildland fire fighter, something he has wanted to do for a while. It is seasonal, so I reminded him that he does still need to find a job.
Youngest son just finished the first grading period of his first year in high school and earned a 4.0. I am proud of him, but for those of you who don't have high schoolers, no homework is given anymore. Everything is done at school, even reading, and he hasn't missed a day, so . . . . There are tests, so he is showing some skills. I talked to one of my Education professors yesterday about it, asking him when homework would be coming back, and he said it is gone for good. Apparently, homework has been shown to be an equity issue. Those kids without supportive families end up not completing/submitting home work and earning lower grades because of it. From an equity perspective, that actually makes sense to me, but as a parent who hopes to see her son go to college where there is definitely homework, I am somewhat distressed. By comparison, one of my son's friends, who is in an IB program, has 3-4 hours of homework a night, so the equity issue will still be there when all of these kids are back together in college.
That turned into a bit of a rant. Sorry about that. I hadn't intended it to.
Take care everyone. I have been reading and thinking about all of you and your struggles, but with my chemo brain, if I don't respond right then, it is in and out.

Is there a maximum sick leave?
Do you dislike the look of the wig or the feel of it or both or something else.
My MIL had a wig and she got this strong auburn bob, (at around 70) and she seemed to enjoy it. She was quite into appearance - and was pretty put together appearance-wise overall. I think it was fun for her to play with wigs, but I can certainly get that It wouldn't work for all.
Understandable that you be nervous! insurance companies shouldn't be soulless! that really irks me. glad if feels like an uphill path since end of chemo (if I understand) Yay for your son. finding a calling at 26. doesn't sound very late at all in the large scheme of things. No homework anymore ! wow! we didn't have a ton but surely did have some essays and a science projet and math homework I guess...and reading to do... there is no homework in any public high school all over the country? hmmmm..
I mean we also had 1-2 study periods per day out of 7 for reading, homework, etc. it was okay for doing short exercises if not too distracted.
they don't have study periods to work during - working on one's own is part of growing up..and becoming mature...agreed that if public is that way but private is vastly different that doesn't solve the equity issue much at all. as solution would be to have tutors available after school for those who wish to stay and get help.
I don't know if there is a maximum or not, to be honest, but the surgeon said she recommends one months leave, so that is good enough.
The wig is hot and heavy, and I feel like it's always in my face.

Snowflake1968 wrote: »Rebecca - the little ornaments you shared yesterday, what are they made of? They are very cute.
Barbara- I would jump at that chance too if Rodger invited me to go somewhere.
Michele - I am not a real sweet eater so it doesn’t entice me as much. Very rarely do I ever reach for chocolate or a cookie. BUT offer me potato chips and see what happens! 😂
Our province just voted to keep switching times, it was 51.1 in favour not to and 49.9 to abolish it. I personally voted to keep changing after reading what the dark longer mornings would do to our circadian rhythm and other health concerns. I also know that keeping it this way cause depression and a bunch of other issues too. I would have liked the shorter time difference with NB part of the year though.
Kylia - I have been struggling with meals at home too. I have been thinking of an air fryer, the insta-pots scare me a bit. I am trying to decide what I should buy and if it would be worth the expense. We need to do this for our health and financial well being.
Allie - I would never have sassed my grandparents but I did not treat my Mother well. I regret that. I hope her attitude changes soon, I’m sure with all of the teenage angst we all go through, she is probably worried about how the new baby will affect her. She has been an only child and grandchild for quite some time.
Kim - I’m with you, I have no idea what my heart rate is either.
Julie - first off I was taught and it took me a long time to learn that when there is “tone” in an email it’s usually our own perception . I’m saying that though, I think A was a bit of a butthead about what seemed like a sincere thank you. Again, it’s hard to say not knowing how someone speaks in real life.
Sue - the biggest hugs to you. I so miss the maple keys, haven’t seen any since I think 2008 when I was home in the Fall.
Beth - At work if anyone complained more than 3 days after a booster of symptoms they had to contact our health department and go get a test. I believe a couple of them actually had Covid and didn’t know it until then. This was at the peak of our Outbreak though that we started getting our vaccines.
I saw the therapist today, I was completely locked up again. I’m compensating for that I had somehow managed to twist my pelvis. He unlocked and untwisted me again. I have an appointment on Dec 2nd for the exercise specialist that will hopefully get me building up again without injury.
I am so completely done with all of this pain.

My supervisor likes halloween, so we're having a morning tea on Monday. I headed out into the rain to pick up something for the tea and was very pleased to find Trick or Treat mandarins! If no one else wants them, I'll eat them!!
A few of the chocolates were also on sale so I picked up a couple bags of those too.
Halloween is just not a thing here, so it is hard to find stuff.
Also discovered that another store in the Hobart CBD ("downtown") is moving out to a suburb where I never go. One less place to shop!! Oh well. Saves me money! However, they're having a big sale so I bought water colour pencil crayons. I've wanted to try them with the colouring I'm doing.
Yesterday, when it was nicer out, I hiked up to an OP shop I like and found quite a bit of piano music!! I'll go there again next week because I didn't have a chance to go through it all. So last night I was busy trying various pieces on our new to us (but older) keyboard.
This weekend, we're hoping to pick up headphones I can use with it. I think then I'll hear the "music" from the keyboard in my headphones, but it won't be everywhere. My husband doesn't mind me playing (or attempting to play) but I think he may start finding it annoying when I do scales and practice things over and over.

Flea - Your hair will start coming back very soon. When my fluff first arrived back, I was soooo happy to see it. It started out curly for quite a while, but eventually straightened out and went back to normal. When it was short I went to the hairdresser and had it died red. Very red. That was fun.
I'm someone whose hair is an important part of my identity. It was terrible to lose it for a while. It's a bit late now, but my best, and coolest, wig, was a cheap one off the Internet, which was a blue scarf with blonde braids coming out of the bottom. It garnered heaps of compliments, especially from black women!
Kids coming to play today. They are arriving at 12 for pasta lunch and fresh mango, and then they will have a 99 at 3. The parents will pick us all up at 5 and we will go to Fatto a Mano for pizza.
I hope the rain will hold off long enough for us to take out the geraniums and plant the tulop and crocus bulbs in layers in the big pot outside the dining room window. I bought a few violas in the week to stick on the top for winter colour. Last year we put the bbq grating over the top to deter squirrels and foxes from digging up the bulbs, but I'm not sure if that will work with the violas. I hope they will enjoy 'helping'.

29: Plan a fun or exciting activity to look forward to. this is what had me so blue after our last zoom Happy Hour. C & T were happily planning expedition to Jacksonville, I decline to ride in car or share a room with them, one unvaxed, the other infected and in denial. Ah wait, king tides are coming. We can schedule another Coastal Coffee Convoy, where we bring our foofy coffees in our own cars to parking areas overlooking the beach, and conference call chat while watching the ocean. Yay now I’m smiling!
30: Identify three things that give you hope for the future: nope, more focused on being grateful for the NOW.
Not just a break in the rain, but gorgeous summery day. Sunny, 70 degrees, doing make up T’ai Chi on the deck had me sweatin.’
Strategy review with financial advisor, steady on course. Only change, transfer this year’s gains into a Roth IRA, pay taxes now, protect future earnings from potentially higher tax rates. Not a lot of $$ but every bit helps.
Flea “if the original writer really meant to be hurtful or ironic or mean, they are going to have to try again. They usually don't.” Bingo. No homework in high school? Bodes not well for the future.
Julie 250g of soft cheese would definitely give me a funky stomach. I’d need a few days of ginger (like Debbie) and high fiber.
Beth I’m still experimenting, but some chicken tenders, on a rack over a pan, spritzed with a little avocado oil spray came out almost crispy… What I really want is the chicken tenders from the old Table Rock brew pub. Think they were cooked in some kind of pressure fryer, not something safe for this home cook! Good for you for abstaining from the rest of your family’s case of the grumpy/meanies.
Lisa admire your humor through pain and difficulty. Any chance a Jacuzzi would help?

Rain, rain, rain, rain ...
Over 40 mm of rain last night and still going. This October has been incredibly rainy, and unfortunately a lot of it has been on weekends! We'll have had at least 150 mm by the time the month ends (the average is about 65 mm).
M in Oz
We're up to 63 mm of rain in the last day.
And we're up to 160 mm this month.
Complete with howling wind and snow above 600 metres.
This is why I'm not keen on spring. I prefer when we get closer to summer and less wild and variable weather.
Last night, tonight, and this weekend I am and will be working on media and communication things for my cycling club.
I'm looking for photos I've taken which will be appropriate for the advertising we're doing. This is one I've come across. We hold a cycling event called the Penguin Parade 300. It's a 300 km ride with a 20 hour time limit. Why Penguin Parade? The route goes up to the town called Penguin to the big penguin in Penguin.
Tomorrow we might be out doing a bit of route checking for an event coming up in November. Someone else is hosting that event, but I've created the shorter of the two routes and want to see parts of it in person.
Plus I'm hoping to get some seeds in the ground and weeds out!
