Good Thursday,
Man, I just was having a hard time getting started today. Finally got reading/praying done after I couldn't get logged in for exercise.....afterwards was able to log right in and exercise. Amazing! Yes, I was going to skip the exercise today as I am running a little behind. Decided to skip hot tub instead.
Last night was a lot of sitting as we got our Echo equipment order done with our rep. I need to send him our oil order today, then that will be done. Only a couple more orders to accomplish. Sister in law on "vacation" this week. I have made some changes in doing things at work with repair invoices. Easier for me! And makes more sense with the computer system. I hope she can adapt, but so far she hasn't been receptive to learning anything from me. SMH...The customers understand the way I do it better, so that is all that matters to me.
Thank you all for your encouragement! It is appreciated and felt.
Tracey I have both an air fryer and an Instant Pot. I use both rarely. The air fryer I have only used for french fries and chicken patties. The instant pot I have made hard boiled eggs with success, but anything else I have tried hasn't worked out. Like Rebecca said, they do take up a lot of space.
Hugs!
Love!
Smiles!

Good morning all. It's been an eventful week. We had a funeral on Tuesday. Judy had had Parkinson's for over 10 years. She taught both my girls in the 1980s. We became reacquainted when her husband and I got to know each other through my U3A art and art history groups. It's quite a saga hence the spoiler. They went to visit their daughter in England in September. Judy has been getting worse lately and didn't look well. Judy wanted her to see their grandson before she deteriorated any more.
While they were at their daughter's, she and her husband became concerned about Alan, and arranged for him to visit their doctor who sent him to the the hospital. The hospital kept him in for an MRI scan, which subsequently showed he had a bleed in his brain. This is now dissipating.
While he was in hospital, his daughter, who is a school teacher, tested positive for Covid, which added a complication at home. When Alan came out of the MRI scan, he was told that Judy had had a fall, and broken her hip. She had been admitted to the same hospital.
Alan couldn't visit her until he had another negative PCR test, as she was in a different part of the hospital. (He had tested negative before being admitted to hospital). The test came back positive.
Judy was operated on a day or two later, but there were complications and she didn't make it through the operation. With Alan and his daughter both isolating with Covid, it was some time until he was able to repatriate Judy. Both he and his daughter are now fine, but are obviously in shock. Judy was well-respected, a wonderful person, and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
Lanette: Good to see your post.
Annie: (((Hugs)))
Mary I loved the northern lights. You don't often see that full circle.
Machka: those platters are gorgeous. Your garden is looking beautiful.
Rebecca: 😍 the gnomes. And your exciting adventure. 🤣😂🤣😂🤣 First marriage album.
Have run out of time.
Best wishes to everyone.

Morning ladies
Alfie fed and just did my pills, lordie that is a production.. but it is done for the week
Will hop in the shower and get ready for knit and stitch and start all over on the baby blanket..
Tomorrow night Trudy and I are going to the local casino to go see the Monkees well there are 2 left and in sure they will have some stand ins for Davey Jones and Peter Tork..
Well just finished a load of laundry and have to get in the shower and throw it in the dryer.3 -
Lanette - Welcome back! You have been missed.0
-
Terri - sad story, but she does leave good memories. So often our leaving seems to be not worthy of our lives, but I hope we can be remembered for the good times.
Had left over chicken stew for lunch with added noodles. Yum!
I'm going to make a classic Spanish omelette for dinner, with a tomato salad. They recently held a poll in Spain to see if people preferred the ulta -classic version, with just potatoes, or if they preferred to add onions. It was a 70 - 30 vote in favour of added onions. Mine will have onions.
Lovely day here, but set to get colder and wetter over the weekend.
Tracey- did you keep up with the exercises in between your manipulations? I have a weakness in my left leg - knee and thigh muscles, so I have to do strengthening exercises every single day. It can so easily go out of wack if I don't keep at it.
With regard to seasoning with herbs and spices, I use all of them, and can't imagine life without the whole gamut. Something I use A LOT is a herb/spice mix from the Middle East called Za'atar. I can buy it locally, but I used to get it from Amazon. I sprinkle it on almost everything, especially roast vegetables and roast meat, like chicken. Soups. Wonderful stuff. I buy huge boxes if it and decant into a smaller bottle by the stove.
Love to all, Heather UK xxxxxxxx2 -

Regarding the Covid booster—We got Pfizer for all three vaccinations. I sailed through number 3 with no discomfort. I had headaches with the first two vaccinations but not the third. DH had a tougher time with the third shot and didn’t feel well for several days after the shot. We both also had a flu shot. We’re planning to travel to visit our son and his family and want to do everything possible to keep us all safe. We plan to fly to Virginia to see our family there.
I fell on concrete steps and damaged my left knee. I am hoping to get some physical therapy to improve the knee and hope it reduces pain and helps my knee to heal.

Morning peeps
Kirby booked the Alaska trip for next year. We are going in may. Not taking Bette this time, we r taking yogi to drop him off at the old sitter. I guess I’ll be virtual riding the MS ride in September. I will still b collecting donations, I just won’t b there.2 -
Teri--Sorry about your friend. Sounds like, I am not sure what. Prayers for all of them and you.
Allie--Hope you enjoy the Monkees show. I did see Davy Jones years ago and the first thing that crossed my mine is how short he was. But boy! could he dance.
Another cold and damp day, glad I am working inside.
Blessings, Vicki GRAND ISLAND NE1 -
Terri all my condolences.0

worked on writing for about 3.5 hour or so - probably more like 3:15 subtracting interruptions;
was supposed to meet friend for dinner (and also counter working for a while) but I'm SO- SO SO tired.
I feel like all I need to do right now is sleep. my friend has a lot of work right now too so I'm sure it's fine if we postpone.1 -

Good morning! (PNW)
I am now one week out from my last chemo treatment, and beginning to feel back to normal. It is such a reassuring feeling to know that I will keep feeling better now; at least I won't have to go through another week-after-chemo feeling. I know recovery from surgery is not going to be pleasant, but there is an end to that, as well.
My pre-op appointment is this afternoon at 3:30. I am more nervous than I should be. I keep waiting for them to turn me away as hopeless. The insurance company has already pushed back, but maybe that's just them being the insurance company. Soulless. The surgery is scheduled for two weeks from tomorrow. It is really time for me to get my desk cleared of pressing projects. I am hoping to be approved for four weeks of medical leave, but I would take six. That would keep me out until Christmas break, so I wouldn't go back to work until the first week of January. I might even have some hair back by then! I'm totally over the wig. I hate it. I wear it only when I go to work, but that is still 4 or 5 days a week.
Oldest son has moved to the final stage of the paramedic program acceptance process. On November 12 (!!) he has a skills assessment, essay, and interview. He should sail through those. I would rest easier knowing that he is on a positive path. His EMT job is going very well. So I think he has found his calling -- turns 26 in January, so I guess it's about time!
Middle son has moved to Eugene with friends and still looking for work, although he has begun training as a wildland fire fighter, something he has wanted to do for a while. It is seasonal, so I reminded him that he does still need to find a job.
Youngest son just finished the first grading period of his first year in high school and earned a 4.0. I am proud of him, but for those of you who don't have high schoolers, no homework is given anymore. Everything is done at school, even reading, and he hasn't missed a day, so . . . . There are tests, so he is showing some skills. I talked to one of my Education professors yesterday about it, asking him when homework would be coming back, and he said it is gone for good. Apparently, homework has been shown to be an equity issue. Those kids without supportive families end up not completing/submitting home work and earning lower grades because of it. From an equity perspective, that actually makes sense to me, but as a parent who hopes to see her son go to college where there is definitely homework, I am somewhat distressed. By comparison, one of my son's friends, who is in an IB program, has 3-4 hours of homework a night, so the equity issue will still be there when all of these kids are back together in college.
That turned into a bit of a rant. Sorry about that. I hadn't intended it to.
Take care everyone. I have been reading and thinking about all of you and your struggles, but with my chemo brain, if I don't respond right then, it is in and out.

"Get to do"s and "chose well"sChose well: take BP, dogs to powerline, practice WBW, DM, SWTD, SL, GDLL, last half of dog group.
Bonus: 27 mins grooming Tumble, stroll and chat with T and Shadow, Freddie’s.
Just one thing: gritted my teeth, told my inner-child-of-depression-era-parents to pull up her big girl panties, and threw out food: rancid butter, sour grapes.
Get to do: take BP, BB&B, dogs to powerline, make up T’ai Chi + 30 mins Tuesday linedancing (practice WBW, DM, SWTD, SL, GDLL,) process grapes, pick chanterelles for A, 2pm zoom with Reb, backup files, then call pc guy to schedule tuneup, fire district: research district tax exemption for volunteer firefighters, AFG grant requirements including NIMS, call NFPA cancel inactive accounts, clarify benefits included in annual dues, input 2019 call sheets into NFIRS, work with chief on equipment letter, substance abuse policy, NFIRS, index mutual aid files and share with L; start Part D research with new rx info, watch STAS Day 20, declutter sideboard, learn new dances (Tequila Little Time, Homesick, Nothing but You, A Little Less Broken, Blame it on my beating heart, Do Your Thing, practice dances: All Night, TGIF, I ain’t never gonna love nobody but Cornell Crawford (Alley cat), One Margarita, I’m So Used to Being Broke); finish mulching flowerbed, invest another 10 minutes in prepping living trust, Freddie’s for complete series TDAP <$48, get Shingrix vaccine, find and configure a screen time popup, figure out where to plant the last of the naked lady bulbs, and soon as it warms up above 50 and dries out below 60% humidity I’ll tape and spray paint those rusted areas of Aunt Elsie’s stove, ask Te about GB’s FD firetruck tax levy – contacts, media, advocate???, Sunday: call S, Reward: inventory seeds, plan next spring’s garden, wishlist replenishments (Milena F1 orange peppers and beit alpha cukes next year).
Reminder: Weekly: Mon=15 mins SWSY. Tues=30 mins line dance at home. Wed=30 mins T’ai Chi & 1 hr pack walk. Thurs=15 mins BB&B. Fri=30 mins T’ai Chi. Sat=1 hr pack walk. Sun=15 mins pilates, yoga or wii balance games.

27: Be kind to yourself today. Remember, progress takes time: and celebrate different kinds of progress, improved stamina, ease in rising from chairs.
28: Ask yourself “Will this still matter a year from now?”: good strategy for dampening over reaction.
Lovely stroll with T and Shadow at Harris Beach State Park campground. Alas, I’d overlooked the new time announcement in the dog group emails, so missed all but the last 20 minutes.
Kylia, Hooray for 3 days exercise in a row. I’d stick with that for at least a few weeks until it really becomes a habit you don’t have to think about, you just do. Then maybe add one more thing, like plan one healthy meal for the coming week.
Heather thanks for the “99” visual.
Lanette welcome back, you’ve been much missed. Downloaded Plan A, lots to absorb but “sounds true.” So admire your positive spin on your new fire wood stacking and hauling workouts. ((hugs))
Debbie, yes, chanterelles grow in our yard and along the drive. This year a bumper crop sprang up. Joe doesn’t like any mushrooms and I’m too chicken to eat wild ones, but have three acquaintances who are confident of their identification and happy to receive the bounty. Here’s the first batch. Hope the people at Black Trumpet Bistro are interested in the black trumpet chanterelles. Want to swap some harvest for a meal, love their food and wine.
Julie If I were B, I’d have answered A with “No, not ironic, sincere” and left it at that. Less fuel… ;} Some people seem to be determined to find provocation in everything. If calling A on it has not been successful in the past, then, less is better, imho.
Sue in WA ((hugs))
Beth the day after I got the booster, my toes and ankles swelled significantly. Freaked me out as it reminded me of when I had a DVT in 2017. Swelling went down some the next day and is now almost gone. Aspirin and compression socks helped. Aspirin also helped the mild headache that seems to recur every day. Have you registered with the CDC’s after vaccination symptom checker? https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/vaccines/safety/vsafe.html works with your smartphone.
Tracey I was thinking about an air-fryer, when I read that it’s essentially a countertop convection oven. My oven has a convection setting so I’m experimenting with that. Will be happy to save the $$ and storage space Did the PT’s unlocking ease the pain at all? Seems like sometimes it has to hurt worse at first to get better…
Looking at the weather ahead, thinking Tuesday might be a good day for the first burn barrel extravaganza, if the forecast is calm…

Is there a maximum sick leave?
Do you dislike the look of the wig or the feel of it or both or something else.
My MIL had a wig and she got this strong auburn bob, (at around 70) and she seemed to enjoy it. She was quite into appearance - and was pretty put together appearance-wise overall. I think it was fun for her to play with wigs, but I can certainly get that It wouldn't work for all.
Understandable that you be nervous! insurance companies shouldn't be soulless! that really irks me. glad if feels like an uphill path since end of chemo (if I understand) Yay for your son. finding a calling at 26. doesn't sound very late at all in the large scheme of things. No homework anymore ! wow! we didn't have a ton but surely did have some essays and a science projet and math homework I guess...and reading to do... there is no homework in any public high school all over the country? hmmmm..
I mean we also had 1-2 study periods per day out of 7 for reading, homework, etc. it was okay for doing short exercises if not too distracted.
they don't have study periods to work during - working on one's own is part of growing up..and becoming mature...agreed that if public is that way but private is vastly different that doesn't solve the equity issue much at all. as solution would be to have tutors available after school for those who wish to stay and get help.

have eye dr. appt. this afternoon- With dh working full time again(retired but they lifted the restrictions on how many hours he can work)we get better medical/dental/vision coverage. Now, we get glasses every year instead of every other year. I still have to pay about $250 for mine because of the progressive lenses but that is better than the $950.
A friend of dh's came down this morning with our yearly gift of Oregon potatoes- 50lb box every year. We share with family/friends and still end up with some growing, which I put in the garden and sometimes they produce.
Going to the dollar store to pick up ModgePodge to try my hand at making those key chains I was planning on buying- will be fun to try.
Tracey- Talked to an old classmate of mine that lives up in Edmonton- he said he is getting ready to hibernate. Was surprised when he told me how cold it gets and how much darkness you get in the winter time. CRAZY

Pip – Congratulations on your planned trip to Alaska next year. My parents took a cruise ship to Alaska many years ago. They loved every minute of their trip. It was their grand adventure. I hope you and Kirby enjoy your adventure as much as they enjoyed theirs.
Terri – So sorry for the loss of your friend and for all of the heartaches her family has faced.
Lanette - I am delighted to see your post! I have missed you.
Flea – We plan to leave here in November to be present when our son and daughter in law have their new baby. We are in touch with them and are doing our best with timing our visit. We plan to fly to VA on November 19 and return home on December 13. I have a dentist appointment the very next day, December 14. I hope the timing will work for all of us. :flowerforyou:
Barbara - Chanterelles!!! Good for you! We haven’t had any in years. They are delightful.
Allie – We have had three Pfizer vaccinations and also flu vaccinations. They will help keep us and those we love a bit safer. Every little bit counts. Regarding knitting - I knitted a baby blanket for the new baby that is coming soon. I unraveled it and started over more than a few times before I was happy with the outcome. I shipped it off to our daughter in law and she has received it. We knew our newest grandbaby will be a boy and I let his mom choose the yarn.
Flea – Sending good thoughts your way. No more chemo seems like heaven.
Debbie - I have had progressive lenses for several years. I love them! I probably should have an eye check and see whether I need a different prescription. My eye doctor would like that, but I am so happy with what I have, I am putting off any changes until after our trip.
We’re having an overcast sky and occasional rain this morning. I am happy to be at home and cozy just now.

Flea - As a retired teacher, I am in full agreement that school work should be done at school. I taught 8th grade during the last few years of my teaching career. Our group of teachers were present and able to offer help to students who needed it. We invited students to eat lunch with us in our classrooms. It was an open offer and more than a few students chose to join us there. They had the option of eating in the cafeteria with everyone else but many preferred to eat lunch in our rooms. Sometimes they would ask for help, and other times they were happy to be with a friend or two in a relatively quiet room.3

Barbara ... I have not used the CDC v-safe, but will definitely share my recent experience. I too just learned that a convection oven does the same thing as an air fryer. I don't use my convection oven but plan to try that before buying another piece of equipment that sits on the counter.
Flea ... sending healing thoughts and prayers your way.
Homework ... I understand that students need to learn how to do homework if they're headed for college, but how I would have loved not to have had that burden when my sons were growing up. School work at home made my day and theirs too long. I resented it. I did, however, finally learn as an adult how to solve quadratic equations.
Finally at 50% weight bearing on the broken leg. Yay! But still not allowed to do much. Sigh. My family is grumpy/sad/downright mean today. Hoping tomorrow will be a better day.
Beth near Buffalo ... who has decided they can figure out their own dinner for tonight.
6 -
Oh Beth ! I wish we were closer and I would bring dinner over! I have a counter of fresh tomatoes and would make fresh tomato soup for your family with grilled cheese!
