It is raining this morning and makes me feel cozy in bed. Our daughter has a long time friend here. He is asleep on the couch down stairs.
I haven’t been able to get DH to look for a medical bracelet, but I have a jewelry store in mind. It is in a nearby town and is a logical starting point.1 -
katla - I got my mom one through the insurance company that does her submental insurance. they had a spot on the web were you could pick out one, all basic, nice but not fancy. And the insurance covered most of the cost - I think I paid a couple of dollars for shipping. Her cardiologist would not put in her pacemaker until we had one or had one on order. It is so critical for EMT to know. And none of us is 100% of the time with a loved one who could tell an EMT. (EMT =Emergency Medical Tech, often the folks on an ambulance)

Tracey--My heart hurts for your daughter and family. So young and unexpected. Sending prayers.
Katla--Glad for the good news about DH and relief for you. Glad your DD is there and plans to be there for awhile to help with appointments and whatever you need.
Lisa--Sorry to hear about the problems your DD is having. I pray that she has a good lawyer and that SOB has to pay what is rightly hers and the children. Can the service step in and do something? I thought they were pretty strict about these kinds of things and family.
Teri--I have found on most cell phones even if locked the ICE shows on the bottom and can be called. When we have a lost phone turned in at the hospital that is the first thing I look for and call.
Allie--Change is never easy and the older I get memories mean more. But one way to look at the work at the cottage is that it is getting used and not left to fall apart and rot. My grand parents house is fall down around it's self and I have one uncle left and he will not let anyone do anything to save it. Makes me so sad and mad at the same time.
Calling for rain later today and I sure hope so it is so dry. Was a nice weekend and even went out on the motorcycle yesterday for a nice ride. Going to be a long week as I have someone on vacation so means overtime to cover.

Hi Janene!
Just jump in. The more you contribute the more response you will have. It can be a bit baffling at first. Just persevere. This can be a great resource.

nanaculter ~ Love the pics of you and your grands. Great looking throws that I am sure you made. Reading on a river front porch seems enchanting.
Please give us a name you would like to be called and a general location!

Thank you Carol. My name is Janene. I live in the mountains of western North Carolina. The picture is from this past Christmas morning and yes, I did make the throws for all of them for Christmas.
My biggest challenge is activity.... I sit all day at my job. And I struggle with a painful foot.

Katla – I’ll be thinking of you Wednesday.
Barbara – here’s the recipe for the wine cookies. You really can’t taste the wine.
Makes 18 large cookies
2 sticks butter
2 cups dry red wine
1/3 cup plus 2T sugar
3-1/4 cups AP flour
½ cup cocoa powder
1t baking powder
1t baking soda
1t salt
1-1/2 cups packed light brown sugar
2 large eggs
2t vanilla
8oz semisweet chocolate, roughly chopped
In a small saucepan over medium heat, melt butter. Continue cooking, stirring often, until butter foams and then darkens slightly in color and becomes fragrant, 4-6 minutes. Immediately pour the butter into a large heatproof bowl. Do not wash the pan (Honestly, I didn’t see why this step was necessary)
In the saucepan used for the butter, add the red wine and 2T sugar and bring to a simmer over high heat. Reduce the heat to medium and simmer, stirring occasionally, until reduced to 1/3 cup, approx. 16-18 minutes. Pour the reduced wine into the bowl with the butter and let the mixture cool for 15 minutes
Meanwhile, whisk the flour, cocoa power, baking powder, baking soda and salt in a medium bowl. Preheat oven to 350.
Whisk the brown sugar and remaining 1/3 cup granulated sugar into the butter-wine mixture and then whisk in the eggs and vanilla until smooth. Stir in the flour mixture with a spatula until a soft dough forms, then stir in the chopped chocolate
Use your hands to roll the dough into ¼ cup sized balls and drop onto the prepared baking sheets at least 3” apart (They didn’t spread for me).
Bake for 11 to 14 minutes or until the tops of the cookies are lightly cracked.
Annie DE – what a way to wake up!!! Isn’t it a pain? I’ve stepped in cat hairballs+

nanacutler – welcome! Lovely family
Well, I have an appt with a nurse practitioner Wednesday about the pain on the side of my leg. Would not surprise me one bit if this pain is due to sciatic. Feels like when I had it before, only not as bad. No matter what I do, in what position I get into, I cannot get comfortable. It’s not hot, not swollen, just pain. It isn’t joint pain so I’m thinking inflammation in a muscle. There is no way I would be able to walk around the block, and now that it’s getting nicer outside, I will want to walk
Worked today, then bowling, ceramics tonight

Heather,
We use these for pots we don't have lids for - you have to be careful removing them, but they work great both for pans on the stove and in microwave. Love them!

Janine ... welcome!
Barbara ... sorry your knee is bothering you ...
It has been a chaotic and busy couple of weeks as we get ready to close on my parent's house at the end of the month, complicated my parent's health issues. As you may recall my mom fell around Valentine's day and broker her femur. She was released from rehab back to their assisted living apartment this past Thursday. She fell again last night and is back in the hospital. We are unclear at this time what is going on ... hospital not releasing information and not returning calls. Assisted living facility has also dropped the ball on communication. We have many issues to address moving forward. SIL is on her way to the hospital to see what is going on ( a 6 hour drive for her). Brother will join her at the end of the week and I will be there next week.
My own leg is really about healed ... only some minor weakness in the tibia ligament that runs down by the ankle and we're working on that in therapy. I originally started PT for the arthritic knees and both my therapist and I think I've made tremendous progress. Last May I was in agony and could hardly stand. Today I am able to walk up and down a set of stairs with railings/support. A few more weeks of therapy and I may have "normal" (to me) knees. The reintroduction of Aleve (an anti-inflammatory) now that I'm done with blood thinners has made a big difference as well. I don't think the PRP injection (platelet-rich plasma) made much of a difference, nor does my current orthopedic doctor. Therapy. Lots of therapy.

Back again, it's me!
Thunder's bumblin' outside, been a gray, drippy day, and it's starting to come down heavy now. So I took a nap this afternoon for nearly three hours. I think the new medication was part of that. Will know more if it happens again tomorrow!
Took my office/sewing/dining room apart this weekend with Corey's help (I ended up with 6,000 steps, which is great). Rearranged everything to make more sense and have more table space. Below are the before and after shots and a peek at the remaining bins I need to get sorted which are all in the living room and kitchen still.
As the old joke goes, "How do you eat an elephant?" "One bite at a time." As you can see by the right-hand "after" picture, the dropdown ladder is the only access to the attic, and anything I put there must be situated to leave space for the attic stair when it's opened. Still figuring that one out. There are a lot of bins to move back in!
I was totally shirking that by taking my nap. I'm OK with that.
Before picture:
After picture
All the bins that were stored in that room are shown here - each one has to be weeded through and the contents kept, thrown away or donated.

(((Allie:))) — You are just the right Grandma to visit now and then & go on a treat/date to have individual time with each grandchild so mom can get a little rest. You will be creating happy memories without exhausting your self. ❤️0
-
Allie - by April 4th he may have grown out of it. I know other people who have had the same problem and it doesn't last for ever. People go in for car drives, vacuum cleaner noise, endless walking etc. You need a village to take care of a baby. Just anyone to take them for a walk around the neighbourhood while the mother rests. It doesn't last for ever. Sending hugs.
I don't know what you call them in the US, but has he got a dummy? Pacifier? Plus a comforter. Each of my grandchildren had a transitional object. Max an elephant, Edie a rabbit and Bea a monkey. Transitioning from the womb is soooo hard. With mine , my eldest had the worst colic, but it disappeared at 3 months. A lot of pacing.
This too shall pass.

Allie, - I can empathize with you about baby colic. I used a baby hot water bottle for my colicky son with some success back in the day. Also carried him in a Snugli a LOT. I was really glad when he outgrew it.

Will have Tracy try those we got him an alligator that you warm in thr microwave called a snuggie.. and he didnt like the pouch but maybe try that again..and he doesnt really like a pacifier..my son didnt either..0

Debbie— DH has put on a bracelet that has the medic alert symbol. He had it for 30 years, and it is doing its job today.0
