The mole catching lady is here and found a mole in the traps she set a week ago. Our garden is happy. She's going to leave the traps for another week just in case there is another mole.
My friend who fixes computers has recovered from his back problems and came over today to work on the problem with my computer.
It has been a very good day.

Went to our on base clinic with husband as he was having his monthly bloodwork done. I asked the clerk in Family medicine about getting the covid Moderna booster and she said to just go to immunization dept. Walked down the hall and filed out a form and waited 5 minutes. A nice corpsman did it, he looked about 19. He asked if I wanted him to say 3, 2, 1. Lol! Just do it, gahh! He was polite, so now my left arm is a wee bit sore, but about the same as a flu shot. Today I am thankful for the simplicity of our on base clinic and my access to using it.👍
Today I did 21 hr fast, eating at noon. Fixed two fish fillets from yesterday, the coleslaw from yesterday in two street taco sized tortillas with two slices of havarti cheese melted as glue for the fish. So yummy! I ate the rest if my coleslaw that was left over with a spoonful of diced tomatoes and some slices English cucumber. Then a brownie with coffee. Shut down my eating window at 2 pm. Easy peasy. Slept good last night, not to bad in the morning. Drinking my coffee black, no problem. I will leap out of bed tomorrow morning for gym, I promise!

DH has a necklace with medical info and also a wrist band. Doctor appointment tomorrow. My daughter and I will be there along with DH & medical staff.
Are you all right?
Are you having trouble posting again?
I hope that your daughter is able to arrange an appointment with your doctor for you and her while she is there too.2 -
DH has two bracelets and a necklace, all of them with identity information. He had these tucked into a drawer in his closet. They are currently a bracelet with id information, and also a necklass with id information. He is wearing them now. Tomorrow we will go to our local medical clinic for a meeting.
I hope your daughter can talk to the doctor about making the medic alert jewellery interactive ... so that medical specialists can get more information online about your DH.
You might go to the Medic Alert site and look at something for yourself too. When you and your daughter go to your doctor have a chat about it.1 -

Machka-I love your garden. We need to do something with our front yard, but neither of us knows where to start. We are not gardeners in the needed sense. I think we will do a patio with a fire pit, but we want a short-ish wall for the privacy too. We need to pick out the tiles first and that is extremely overwhelming. We don't want anything that needs water. I'm sick of fixing landscape irrigation and we are in a drought most of the time.
Welcome to the new folks. Hugs to those in need. Hang in there.
Hope you all have a great day.
Tina in CATina - How about a zen garden with sand? You could play in it, put an easy water feature in (for relaxation purposes. Easily add a zen stone path (circles any one?) No mowing, no weeding, no plant watering...
Well, I better get to sleep. Still trying to catch up on sleep since the time change. So tired every day. ttfn xoxoxo KJ (Kelly)
Tina,
We also did not want to water and mow as much. Prior to turning this area to gravel, this was grass which had to be taken care of all the time situated on an awkward slope. This gravel was an inexpensive solution. It doesn't need to be mowed or watered, and it's safer.
The plants we've purchased are in pots so if we happen to move for some reason, we can take them with us. We can also change them out if we want something different.
The dry stream I'm putting together in the front yard could have a zen element to it.
And one of the reasons I'm putting it in is so that I don't have to have quite as many plants to water and take care of.
It's also inexpensive. So far, I've dug up most of the rocks from various garden beds around the yard and I've snagged bigger rocks here and there when I've discovered them near tip shops and other places.
We got a big load of bricks from a tip shop for $10. About 2/3 were used in the stairs in the second photo and I'm using some for my starting area for the dry stream. I picked up some low wide bowls for my mock pools from a few places and I doubt I spent $10 in total for them. I've been pleasantly surprised ... where else can you spend just a few dollars but have hours and days of fun!
I've also picked up a few native plants. They're in pots, but may go in the ground when I decide where to put them. Australian native plants are good because once they are established, they don't require much water.

Pip- Remember to put us in your pocket, this morning! Sending you all of the KJ2

Terri- Your poems are so lovely! Like Rori, I really identify with this one; as my living room has lots of sun catching items to entertain the kiddos in the morning as they shine rainbows and speckles of light and color around the room.1
-
Pip and Katla - thinking of you both today. Hope all outcomes are good.
Flea - It's good to see you, and I'm glad you're fine. Thinking of you, too.
Rori - I did the big cleanout of paper about two years ago after Corey and I decided I would just retire instead of seeking another job. Easily 150 pounds of paper files, brochures, advertising material, and boxes of old Girl Scout stationery went on the burn pile. But now I am still finding boxes of things I kept under the, "Well I might use that for something" banner and the files that escaped the conflagration are also showing up. Basically, if I haven't touched it in the last two years, I'm ruthlessly getting rid of it. That's the idea anyway. What possible use could I have for a paper cutter? Yeah, still trying to figure that out
However, I find myself absolutely unable to get rid of fabric I've kept for quilts! I've ignored my hoarding tendencies for so many things, but that one just eludes me. One thing I did promise myself, though, was using the one in, one out rule for fabric and yarn. If one comes in, one goes out. I threw away all the bitsy scraps of fabric that were too small to make sense keeping, which was a fair pile of stuff yesterday. The skeins of yarn that I won't use will go in the "sell" pile - someone at the farmer's market always wants yarn. I'll keep the neutrals like black and white, but the neon pink yarn left over from the afghan I made for my son's first wife is definitely in the "sell" pile.
Which reminds me that the reason the scraps went in the trash was because I bought three batik jelly rolls and the non-slide fabric to create eight chair pads. Three for the bar stools, four for the dining table and one for my office chair. If there are any materials left, I might make some to sell. The idea is that the design of each one will be a different quilting pattern.
This is a jelly roll, for the uninitiated. Precut strips that are 2.5 inches wide and 44 inches long. I bought one that was oriented toward blue for the dining chairs, toward red for the kitchen chairs, and one of a neutral white to make the colors pop. It's good for me to learn new patterns and jelly rolls save a ton of time and cutting:

22: Notice something that is going well, even if today feels difficult.
No hot tub for me, at least ‘til after this course of antibiotics. X-rays showed subchondral cyst, wear and tear. Anti-inflammatory gel and aspirin for the wonky knee while waiting for MRI to be scheduled. Ice, elevate, walk on flat smooth floor, wear knee brace, avoid salt (edema & BP) and cheese (for the cholesterol.) Could be a lot worse.
Terri, Joe continues to pick up the slack, exercising the dogs and himself. V. thankful.
Machka and Lisa garden memories and inspiration.
Heather Thanks for reading the backstory, glad you found it interesting. Usually hard for me to give things up, but this was for a good cause so eased the sting. And we all get pleasure from your cruises, irl or imagined! the poem.
Annie, well done!
Vicki nice weather=motorcycle ride YAY!
Welcome @nanacutler Janene in NC. Hop right in, the water’s fine! What a cozy group of afghan-wrapt grands. I love me some grouchy terriers Activity is THE challenge with hurting body parts, and finding those you like is key. If I walk in place while watching TV it helps to distract me from what I’m doing
Michele thanks for the wine cookie recipe. My mouth is watering, they sound delicious. When I first read “Wine cookies” I thought of the American Vintage red wine and cracked pepper wine biscuits that I loved. Alas, long discontinued. Holding good thoughts for Wednesday’s appoinotment.
Katla hooray for DH’s finding and wearing his medic alert bracelet. Sending good thoughts for Wednesday’s appointment.
Karen the pink piggy steamer made me snort with laughter

Pip,
Seconding what Kelly said - we will be your pocket angels all day today.
Beth,
I somehow missed that your mom had fallen again. Ugh. I am so sorry.

Thinking of Flea, Katla, Lisa, Machka, Beth, Margaret, Michele, Rori, Carol, and everyone else having difficulty or recent grief - sending my best to all of you.

Taking my younger brother to the museum today. He is finally ambulatory after 6 months of non-weight-bearing, 2 surgeries on his foot, infection, COVID, a major move...it's been a tedious 6 months, and I am so glad he is finally on the mend. We just have to get through the next month off antibiotics to be sure there aren't some sneaky bacteria hiding out in the hardware in his foot. Keep your fingers crossed! He says the foot doesn't hurt at all. He has been bearing weight for 5 weeks, and off antibiotics for over a week, so I am very hopeful.
I can't believe how hard this has been for him, and for all of us.
Add: thinking about how hard this has been, and thinking of those of you with chronic, progressive, ongoing issues in yourselves or family members, or recent grief...well, my heart really goes out to you.

Welcome, new ladies!

Thinking of Pip and Katla. And anyone else with troubles.
My brother texted me this morning to say he has covid. Mild so far, but his much younger wife and his son, who lives with them, have it harder. My brother is to be 70 in May, so I am crossing fingers.
DH is waiting for an invitation for a 2nd booster. They are giving them to the over 75s. I hope they hurry up.
I had a very sleepless night, for no reason I could fathom. However, I did start a new chapter today in my book, and found myself very moved and crying. Some of you may remember an old lover who died at Christmas 2020. His wife rang to tell me. I have the Christmas card he wrote just a day or two before his heart attack in the kitchen. Poignant. I wonder if I was anticipating the task? I was not consciously.
A quick top up shop this afternoon, then I'm going to watch the last episode of Unorthodox. I'm also reading the book. I will row for some of it.
Pesto and prawn pasta tonight. Lots of frozen veg in it, including artichokes.

23: Tune into your feelings, without judging or trying to change them.
No instances of lightning bolt ice pick yesterday, thanks to Voltaren, resting elevated. Edema/cellulitisdown some this morning, thanks to antibiotics. Scale dropped 2.9 lbs maybe same reasons. Keeping up with the pre- and probiotics Today will do some shopping. Fingers X’d.
Welcome @readandlift Lucy! This is a very supportive thread, hop on in, the water’s fine!
Carla, hope Anne and her children can get back support from that jerk.
Janene as an experiment started taking my BP before morning tea. Down to the 117s from a 135-162 range. Alas postponing caffeine might make the headache worse, but it makes it easier to be content with two cups instead of three your riverside back porch and visitor. Haven’t tried chia seeds in protein shakes, have added spoonfuls of oat bran to good effect. That and prunes…
Lisa I wouldn’t even try to sort a bin while loopy, :noway: much less compile a newsletter or organize archives Hope the meds help you heal at last.
Julie hope your early sleep was restorative, glad to hear C-19 negative.
Tina good to see you checking in, well done on the new regime. Your orioles arrived the same day as our robin and bluejay. It must be spring. Are there any community colleges near you with horticultural programs? Sometimes they’ll design a xeriscape garden as a class project.
Heather DH and Edie’s adventures. How wise you are. Joe, too, will take suggestions/guidance much better from a respected male than his beloved wife. Men! Edie swims in pajamas? Sorry to hear about your brother’s family and C-19. Were they double vacced and boosted? Well done for starting that new chapter, hope it was cathartic.
Vicki feel your pain about the cost of new refrigerators. Ours is still limping along. Really “frosts” me that they don’t last like they used to.
Pip is back in the gym. Hooray!
Allie $3900? Oh NO!
KJ Woo hoo for the 3 pounds!!! Remind me about your local historical event? Have always been fascinated by spinning. Weaving too. Tried knitting, not successful
Flea thanks for the update, much love right back to you.
Rori so good to see you, your resting space and Mars.
Barbie would your mole catching lady like a week on the Southern Oregon coast?
Rebecca will be thinking of your soups while shopping for sausage to go with my sauerkraut today.
Machka your gravel paths and stairs are impressive! And you had fun doing all that hard, sweaty work? WOW!
Karen fingers X’d the bacteria were all eradicated. Remind me what happened to your brother and his foot? Amen to your thoughts going out to those here coping with progressive, ongoing issues and grieving. Puts things into perspective.
Thinking of pip’s, Katla’s DH’s and Michele’s appointments today. Prayers for favorable results and help.
Later, Lighter, lovelies!

We went out early this morning to do our weekly grocery shop. Fortunately we got most of what we needed, apart from our usual brand of sweetened soy milk. I’m going out later to see if I can get some at the branch on the other side of town.
Later we went out and bought some succulent plants for DGS, because that’s what he had on his birthday list.
I’m working on a birthday card for him. We are celebrating it on Sunday, which is Mothering Sunday in the UK. We often celebrate birthdays on the Sunday nearest birthdays as our lot are all adults, are working during the week.
Katla: 👍🏻On finding the medic alerts, and on hubby wearing them.
@readandlift Hi Lucy.
Also discovered that a container I bought this morning has a crack in it, so I will be taking that back.
Hope everybody has a great day.

We will have a meeting at the Health Clinic to help dh today. I am hopeful that this will be a positive experience and productive. He has health challenges — diabetes & MS are both longtime health issues. I am grateful that our daughter will be there with us. Her presence & support is a blessing.3

KAREN in VA ~ It seems like you have had so much to deal with over the past year! My heart goes out to you.
LISA & RORI ~ I dread the day when I might be in charge of decluttering my home if my DH goes before I do. It will be a mind boggling task for all concerned.
KATLA & PIP ~ Hoping for good news for each of you today! Katla, I think Machka has given you some good advise about getting medical advise for yourself as well as your husband. It must be hard with both your children living far away.
As the Big O would say, "It's a rainy day in Georgia."

I agree. You've been under a lot of stress with your husband's illness. Don't neglect your health and well-being. It could be a good time since your daughter is here to go with you.

Good mornin all y'all. Rainy bleary day here today in Western NC. I would love to be at home with my book (Paperwhite, I cant hold a book for long). Sounds like everyone is up and about their daily tasks.
I've done well this week so far. I've lost 5.2lbs. DH has a terrible time with staying on track with his food choices. He has allowed his fasting BG get up in the 200's. By me getting on track it flows over to helping him. So I'm doing this for myself but also to help my DH of almost 42 years. We are so codependent that if one suggests a donut, the other says "oh, that sounds great!" I appreciate and know that I need the support of this group when I go downhill and slide right into a display of honey buns. And as we all know, that day will happen..... Thanks ahead of time lol3 -
I did groceries first instead of exercise today because rain is coming. Now lunch, and then a bit after lunch I promise I will get back to exercise!
I also promised to read a story for a friend. I'm overdue on that and I feel bad about it. Then some banking to do and a bill to pay.
Then split pea soup with leftover ham for dinner. That's my plan!
Hugs for Pip and Katla, and Barbara, and everyone!

Morning peeps
Kirby went to take yogi for a short walk, I didn’t want to go. Kirby wanted to take him to our appointment, but I said no cuz I thought it was going to be a bit too warm even with the windows down, supposed to be in the 80s today. Yesterday I was hurting more than usual so taking it easy today.13 -
DH is doing prep day before colonoscopy so grumpy boy! Lol. Son had competency hearing Monday and final hearing today so should be hearing about that sometime today.
Me? I’ve been trying to stay within calories and was happy I lost 2 pounds last week! But having issues with allergies and depression right now but trying to focus on being healthy. Feels like I have to force myself to do anything. I’ll get through this. Been there before. Hate it but will get through it.
Hugs, prayers, thoughts, and congrats to all who need them. You all are what keeps me going!
RvRita7 -
Pip - I know Kirby want Yogi there, but your right it has gotten to warm for the pups in the car... especially if you can't find a super shady spot to park. Sending good thoughts to you.
