I read somewhere that a DIET isn't just what we put in our mouths - it's also who we live with, who our friends are, where we live, what we surround ourselves with, what we listen to, look at on social media etc etc. All of those have to be healthy choices, not just our food. If those choices are not the best, they can bring us down, however strong we think we are. No (wo)man is an island. We are the sum of our choices.
    Food ( :p ) for thought.
At every moment of our lives we have choices. Stop, pause, think, 'Is this my best choice at this moment?'
We have more agency than we think.

Rori - I hope your travel plans with your friends include the UK. :p<3 Brighton and Hove is a great place for a visit.

DH's younger daughter is in the USA. Where is she?

The rock doesn't look quite red enough but that could just be the photo ... however, I'd guess Utah or maybe Arizona.

    My 2022 Goals

    2022 Goals

My 2022 goals are a continuation of my 2021 goals.

    Upcoming Appointments
    Education/Career
    Medical
    House
    Office
    Computer
    Garden
    Spiritual
    Fitness/Sports
    Cycling
    Audax Tasmania
    Recreation

House > Office > Computer become more specific as they go along. I have a number of thing which need to be done in the house (sleeping room, dining room, etc.) but most importantly the home office needs a whole lot of work. And along with that I need to organise the drives on my computer into a better filing system.

The goal is to have an organised and decluttered house.

Fitness/Sports > Cycling > Audax Tasmania also become more specific as they go along. There are a number of fitness/sport things I'd like to try, with a focus on cycling, and a large part of my cycling endeavours includes my volunteer work with Audax Tasmania ... and maybe even riding some events again myself!

The goal it to improve my fitness level.

Garden is a very small category because that's my husband's domain but I'd like to finish weeding the place and get some flowers and other plants going to choke out the weeds.

The goal is to have a relaxing and functional area outside for reading, exercise and socialising.

Medical is mostly my husband's appointments, which I also need to attend because I'm his ears and cognition.

The goal is to keep him as healthy as he can be.

Education/Career ... little things like becoming really good at SQL, brushing up on VB, and learning data analysis software.

The goal is to expand my skillset.

Intellectual - On my Things To Do list, I have a list of software I wanted to become more familiar with ... as it happens, the 6-month position I took in January requires me to learn those software! That was one of the reasons I made the arrangements to take that position. I'm also still reading and learning about the brain and brain injury. My next position will also require some learning.

Occupational - The last few months have been a bit of a surprise for me as I've gone through a career shake up. After 8 years in the same, comfortable position, I put out 7 applications, got 4 interviews and 2 jobs. One is the 6-month position I mentioned above, the other is a permanent that will officially begin when the temporary one finishes ... but I've already started receiving emails and attending meetings. These 2 positions have tossed me out of my comfort zone but that's OK. I'm learning a lot!

Financial - Fortunately, the jobs are a bit better than the one I had, financially. After all those years getting my Master's degree, it's nice to see it pay off at least a little bit. The (joking) part-time Legal Assistant job (joking) I've got might assist with this one.
Meanwhile, I've created a list of bills we pay and how often they're paid so that we both know what our financial situation looks like.

Environmental - I consider my environment to be things like my home and garden, first and foremost. On my Things To Do list, I have quite a few things which need tending in the house ... especially in the office. I have done a bit of it in the past year but not nearly as much as I would have liked. The garden is here too and I've been having fun in the garden over the summer.

Emotional - I'm trying to incorporate more stress-reducing activities like the colouring and gardening. But I am struggling with this area. I get so stressed and tense up ... I've got a really tight right shoulder right now ... and I have started having difficulty sleeping. I find I'm lying in bed as if I were a 2x4 and I have to really focus on relaxing my neck, shoulders, back, etc. etc. I've also been given a custom mouth guard by my dentist so I don't grind my teeth to powder ... by "given", I mean I purchased a custom mouth guard ...
One day I would like to feel relaxed.

Spiritual - Since last May, I've been reading a chapter in the Bible (on my phone via Bible Gateway) each night. I was doing that in 2015, but haven't done much since then so it's good to be doing it again. I want to attend church more often but my fatigue gets the better of me. Meanwhile, I think and pray while I walk, cycle, and garden.

Social - As an introvert, this is not my favourite area. But I've had to become more social in my current 6-month position ... it's way more social than I'm comfortable with. I went from a position where hardly anyone spoke to each other to a position where people talk all the time! And go out to lunch quite frequently! My husband and I also include a bit of socialness in our lives through the brain injury association, our cycling club and his son and daughter-in-law.

Physical - physical activity, diet/nutrition, sleep, medical. I try to keep active as much as I can. We try to eat a reasonable diet. Sleep ... hmmm. Medical - a large part of our lives involves medical appointments.

I liken our "diet" to an environment. If we are in a dirty cell, with excrement and rubbish, and a nasty cell mate, it would take a saint to keep their presence of mind and make good choices. This, unfortunately, is the environment so many people live in. It is most people's culture. Many think they have no choice, and for some that is nearly true. Poverty, violence, war, disease, reduce the 'bandwidth' that enables people to make good decisions. They can only be focused on survival.
That, however, is not the case for lots of us. We are more fortunate. But it still takes a change of perspective for us to view our toxic environment with clear eyes. Most of us have blinkers on. And we get used to the small space we live in and hardly ever look out of the window at the view.
Where we live, who we associate with, who we let have intimate access to us, is crucial. Are they lifting us up? What is holding us back from changing those things?
Life is difficult. No one escapes suffering. The world is not fair. But, at every minute, we have choices. And the only person we can change is ourself. All the wishing in the world is not going to make one ding dang bit of difference to anyone else.
We only have one, glorious, life.

Off to row, to keep my body as good as it can be, for as long as I can. I need it. :p

Curious why you think most of us are in a toxic environment with blinkers on so that we can't see ... something. The toxic environment? The way out of the toxic environment?

I guess I'm not understanding what you mean.

Did Billy Blanks Tae Bo Circuit 2 DVD. The plan for tomorrow is to do One on One Training with Jackie DVD and then probably some yoga.

I just found out that I am supposed to provide a dessert for Rummikub Tuesday. I’ll probably make another batch of those Rice Krispie bars. Vince will eat them afterwards, too.

Made bbq pork for Vince, a spinach feta pie, got sourdough ready to rise so I can make it this afternoon, a tomato soup for me, still need to make the sourdough waffles and more of the rice krispie bars

Giving Loki his oral chemo but it seems like he isn’t eating. Vince is pretty worried. I am, too, but I don’t show it as much

katla – can you feel the hug being sent your way?

KJ – the weather has changed here, too. I’m back to wearing pants (boo)

Speaking of peeps – do you know what I saw in WalMart the other day? Coffee flavored peeps! You won’t believe how many displays they had of them. But there was one TINY display of chocolate pudding flavored peeps the other day. When we went to WalMart yesterday, there were still lots of the coffee peeps but none of the chocolate pudding flavored ones. I know WalMart doesn’t like selling candy 50% off the day after a holiday, but I have a feeling a lot of these coffee ones will still be there. They also had flaming hot peeps but they were all gone. I guess they appealed to the Hispanic

MB – welcome! Any time is a good time to start!

M – I think spring break around here is next week.

Machka- it was this past week they had the week off.Tracy was working 3 days Kyle was getting over covid ,hence the trip to 6 flags yesterday usually they make a whole day out of it.. but Kyle is on antibiotics that are wearing him out so he only made it for about 4 hrs.and I have a feeling he will just chill for the weekend..
He is the supervisor for shipping and receiving at a machinery plant and it has knocked the stuffing out of him going back to work.. still has the cough and headache... hopefully he doesn't have long term effects.. he did have 2 vaccines but not the booster because he got violently ill with both of the vaccines..
So far so good with Tracy ,Carmine and Miles.
