Fortunately, we cycle with the balls of our feet on the pedals. No heel pain with cycling.
My heel pain is almost gone now that I've spent about 2 days with my feet up.
I'll have to choose my footwear carefully for work tomorrow.

hello everyone! my 1st post of the month. Thanks @barbiecat for starting us off as always!
nothing really special at present over here.
tracked most days but not all. 63000 steps last week. I step a lot during weekdays and less on weekends! 9000 to 18000 weekdays last week (sometimes 3 or 4000 in morning little walk + rest of day running around. since I run around a fair bit some weekend days I often choose to stay local on weekends. tracked most. a bit less last 2 days.
after morning in café, running off at lunchtime as it's getting busy to go home and follow up on my day. wishing you all a good Sunday!

Snowflake1968 wrote: »Machka - I would stay there as well. That is acceptable leave. I think some employers here are understanding they need to do more for employees to have breaks.
I hope that you win this battle. It’s terrible you have to fight for it.
Even with that leave, I haven't really been able to take a true vacation since before my husband's injury.
I'm working a 9-day fortnight, which gives me every other Friday off. These days I use my leave to take the other Fridays off. While it's nice to work only 4 days a week and to have 3-day weekends, it's not really a holiday.
But there's no point to accumulating the leave time and taking a good 3+ weeks off, like I used to do. We're still stuck in Tasmania and while it's nice to go a few places here for a week or so, I wouldn't really want to go for much longer. Plus I usually end up "working" whenever we decide to go somewhere. It never fails ... there's always something with regard to my husband's situation that comes up and urgently needs doing right when we're trying to take some time to ourselves. <<sigh>>
At Easter, for example, I had Good Friday, Saturday, Sunday, Easter Monday, Easter Tuesday on April 19 and ANZAC Day on Monday 25 April off as stat holidays.
Friday 22 April was also my usual Friday off. So I took the Wednesday and Thursday as annual leave. A whole 11 days off! Wonderful! We went away for some of it and stayed home for some.
BUT ... I had a massive document to prepare for the Wednesday in the middle of it all so I couldn't relax.
I hope you're able to take a vacation this year ... even if you get the other job!

Heather- I am in your camp.. Tom and my dad were in Johnnys and in my dads situation it came down to when he was in the hospital the last time with a cancer diagnosis and me sitting there with paperwork in front of him that he actually finally started the process and thank goodness.we stopped and got it notarized at the town hall a week before his passing ,when my son called me I grabbed the papers and when I got to the house and handed them to the paramedics and told them to stop, legally they had to.
I have my affairs in order.
My dad did not ,we had to do all that. I dont want to put my kids through that. I have already paid for my cremation so thats taken care of.1 -
Rebecca That is awesome about meal planning.
Carol my DH is the same way. He will eat a salad (romaine and cheese) and tries vegetables sometimes, but preference is burgers and fries.
Our life is so different that it is hard for me to plan meals. I never know what is going on most evenings. I have wasted so much food by planning, then plans change. So I still fly by the seat of my pants. We eat a lot of breakfast for dinner.
Lanette Your strength continues to amaze me. I believe that people begin that journey to death subconsciously, like nesting before a baby is born. Looking back we see it in little things that we were oblivious to at the time. Hugs!
Machka You deserve a down day too! We have your back. You take care of you. Hugs!
Annie I imagine caring for a parent would be extremely difficult. Could a nurse or friend be arranged to stay or come in daily just for a few days so you can take your trip? These ladies continually tell each other that we must put our oxygen mask on first. I hope something like that can happen so that you can still get a few days away.

Carla I hope you enjoy your brother's party. I feel you on the retirement thing. My brother (2 years younger) "retired" at 53. He does still restore cars, but that is on his schedule. He has one employee at his shop just so he can get health insurance. My sister and her DH have been retired since he was 45. She got bored when they moved to SC a couple of years ago and got a job as a fund raiser for the athletics department at Clemson. Lots of freedom provided with that job. Insurance costs is what keeps me working. I believe we are all ready to sell the shop though in some ways.
Tracey what a great way to teach your grands the cost of things. Great memories too!
Macka Play- I like lots of things on that list, but apparently need to incorporate more as I do few play items.
Well, yesterday our oldest GS had a baseball game that it was feasible for us to attend. DH was grumbling when I said I was going and he could do what he wanted. It was about an hour away. He chose to go with me. We did take the Miata with her top down. Grands were happy we were there. On the way home we got rear ended at a stop light. DH was HOT! There was amazingly no damage to either vehicle or any people. I told him to chill out. Everything was fine. Scary yes, but no damage was done which was amazing as it was a SUV that hit me. Angel's were watching over us at that busy intersection. Oh, I got 30 mpg at 80 mph!
Today is granddaughter's grad party. I really need to get some things done before hand. Lol, I am catching up with y'all instead. 😊
I really should get off here and do a few things.

Thank you, and I'd love that! Meanwhile, I'm sitting here in my PJs on a Sunday evening, working on yet another large document - version 3 or 4 of this one.
But I did get to watch Naked Gun 33 1/3 and Back to the Future III while ... so that's almost like relaxation.
Annie ... I agree! Start looking now what's on offer in the way of carer respite. I know that your parents might not like that idea, but you might need to put your foot down and do it.
I'd also do some research on dementia. These days, there are lots of good information in websites.
I am one of many involved in the Island Project
https://island.mooc.utas.edu.au/
The Island Study Linking Ageing and Neurodegenerative Disease (ISLAND) Project will involve a range of studies that relate to understanding who is at most risk of dementia and how we can self-manage risk behaviours to build resilience to dementia.
Associated with the Island Project are a collection of courses: https://www.utas.edu.au/wicking
I have done the Understanding TBI MOOC, and if I ever have time again, I would like to do the Understanding Dementia and Preventing Dementia MOOCs. They are free, short, online courses available to anyone ... including people in the USA as far as I know.
It might be worth taking these courses or some like them to help gain an understanding of what your mother is going through and what you can do to help her.
You don't have to guess your way through it all. There are resources.
In my situation, with my husband, I am so glad I did as much research as I've done. It has helped.

Oouuff Kylia - scary moment! Glad there was no damage.
The brunch was a lovely occasion. I am waiting for photos from DDIL. Super venue, very spacious and airy and they turned the music off for me. Food was plentiful, but a bit on the cold side. Massive servings of pancakes. I had crab and poached eggs. We enjoyed it.
They then told us about the nightmare they had getting to their holiday. Oh my word! Through no fault of their own, they couldn't get on the flight. Very quick thinking by my son got them booked onto a flight to Athens ten hours later. Many people completely lost their holidays. People crying etc. At Athens he had booked a taxi. €300 . The flight was 2 hrs late, but the guy was there with a sign up. Two and a half hour journey to the resort. Apparently, the kids were amazing throughout. The actual holiday was fantastic.
They are so lucky that my son can handle all that reorganisation, luggage, bike box etc. plus is able to throw money at it. He reckons they had to pay out an extra £800. They are hoping to claim some of it back.
We are having the kids for 3 hours tomorrow morning because it is a teacher training day.

Re: Gas prices - It took $71USD to fill my tank up this week, the most money I've ever put in a tank of gas. Well, diesel, which is part of why it was high. Diesel is running $5.15 a gallon near me, and regular gas is going for $4.20 or so. I get nearly 40 miles per gallon in my VW Passat, thank goodness--and it will be at least four weeks before I fill up again, possibly longer. I'm not driving much these days, too much to do at home!
Re: Grocery delivery - we're still in our free month of Walmart+ that gives us grocery delivery for free. I will probably go ahead and pay for the full year. I have never wanted delivery, but it makes such a HUGE difference and keeps me from overspending. Plus, every time I think of something, I can put it in the cart, so less things forgotten.
What's for Dinner conversations: Corey and I have gotten into the habit of using his lunchtime call to discuss what he wants to cook. If something needs to be thawed out, I'll pull it out while we're talking, and if it's something that needs doing before he gets home, I can get it started, like boiling potatoes or making a cold pasta salad. We did put up a rotation list on the fridge, but it's for the main meat item. It just keeps us from eating beef four or five days a week. He loves vegetables, but wants meat for dinner pretty much every night.
Tracey - looks like everyone was having a great time at the fair. Hope the pain settles down for you.
Heather - The family looks great! So glad your son was able to rescue the holiday from disaster, and they're all back safe and sound.
Ordered Corey's birthday, Father's Day and anniversary present on Friday, it's a Keurig Duo with a drip coffee ability, along with a steel Thermos carafe, and you can make individual Keurig cups as well. We talked about it, because I wasn't going to spend that much without talking to him. Our own Keurig stopped working months ago, and he's been trying the little percolator, but it really is a pain in the hooha.
We went out for dinner to The Boondocks, a Cajun restaurant. In all honesty, I'm not fond of the Cajun spice group, don't like blackened anything, and hate any form of stew, whether it's fish or fowl or pork or beef, but Corey loves all the Cajun spices. So I ordered shrimp and grits - which I do at any restaurant that serves it. When it's done well, it's absolutely sublime. This was not sublime.
In fact, the sauce was so filled with onions that I couldn't eat it. I tried - ate a shrimp, which was perfectly cooked, but that sauce did not work for me - tasted horribly metallic, overloaded with onions, and far too spicy. I thought the grits were flabby, overcooked and tasteless. Corey had the etouffee, which I tasted, but it had even more onions. So he ate his dinner and mine, because he loved them both, as well as my hush puppies which had jalapeno peppers in them. I ate part of the appetizer, which was really good, and a piece of Corey's bread.
I love being this age, where if I don't want it, I don't eat it. For those who might ask why I didn't send it back, I don't think it's the restaurant's fault when I don't like the food. Corey loved the food, even the overcooked grits, so it wasn't bad food, just not food I liked.
Busy day yesterday, got a lot done, but I think we're going to chill out today. Supposed to rain this afternoon. I think.
Love y'all,
Later,

Good morning ladies!
Thanks for your kind words. The problem is that while my mom knows she has a memory problem, she doesn't see how that creates a risk with her pills. Dad is useless for this, because he would ask Mom what to do, and she would just do it herself. Same with anyone else who tried to help.
I get up early in the morning and put her pills in a little cup. Then when she gets up, she takes them and crosses off that she has taken them while I watch. That way I know she gets the correct pills.
But if she gets up too early, she will pour them without me, and she can't tell me how many she took, or which ones. They are for blood pressure and blood thinners, so there is a high risk of stroke or a fall if she gets them wrong. The doctors have encouraged me to supervise her pills.
She is scheduled for a memory evaluation in July that will get a diagnosis and hook me up with local services. But I can't see someone showing up at seven to wait for her to get up, not can I see her agreeing to get up at a specific time. And it will be a struggle to get her to go to this appointment.
Even if she agrees to use the pill box, I would have to hide the rest of the medicine to be sure she doesn't forget and bypass it. Her short term memory is very unreliable.
Anyway the pill box I got online is not easy to open. So I have to keep thinking. I can call and remind her to take the pills, but that won't help if she can't remember whether she has taken them or not.
So it comes down to whether I am willing to risk her making a mistake in order to go on this trip in August. But I'm still thinking.
Thanks for listening to me ramble.

Yo peeps,
Well I got to the end of a journal, where he has passed away. I’m glad that I didn’t cry my guts out while reading it. I definitely wanted to keep composed because kirby was around and he knew what I was reading. After I read them I can put then away and don’t need to look at them anymore. On to the next one.7 -
So I just ordered Dr Guthry's proplant shake mix. I suck at eating-there I said it. Too tired after work, no real breaks at work, and not hungry in the morning. I haven't been eating well. One meal on thursday morning. I cooked and ate friday night, but was processed meat. I didnt eat but a half of cinnamon roll all day yesterday. I just haven't been hungry. I wasnt hungry friday night either, but DH was. Maybe the shake will at least give me fast and easy protein during the day. I will keep you posted. I read all about the wonderful food y'all fix and am a little envious😉. I will get my act together hopefully sooner rather than later. I have a freezer full of fresh caught fish that I have no idea how to cook and venison that I just need to cook. If it takes more than 30 minutes for prep and cook, I am without the energy.
Maybe that should be my goal this month, to get my act together. Okay ,I know, little changes.
Thanks for listening.2 -
Kylia glad your car bump was minor! I can imagine that was scary especially with DH getting upset.
I'm another one who doesn't have energy to cook for myself. I cut up chicken breasts and boil the pieces once a week, then eat four ounces cold for each dinner. It goes down quickly enough that I don't worry about flavor. Plus my dog stares at me and tells me it smells delicious!
I eat eggs for breakfast and overnight oatmeal with protein powder and blueberries for lunch. The great part about overnight oatmeal is that it's ready when you are hungry and then you mix up the next bowl after you eat. Then I snack on Greek yogurt. Quick nutritious food without cooking!

DH is sleeping in his chair. This is bone density day for me. I take alondrate sodium on Sunday morning before anything else. It keeps my bones healthy. Time is up up & my morning coffee is ready and waiting. 😊3

Kylia! That's it! smh... I just feel sorta jealous! So glad your accident was minor. Just be sure to watch for how you're feeling physically the next several days.
Thanks ALL for understanding.
The party was WONDERFUL! OMG... the food was amazing. PRIME RIB on the buffet?!? Who does that? Well, my brother, that's who. It wasn't a huge party, so I suppose they felt they could do that. They had a slide show of his career and I saw a lot of pictures I'd never seen, which was really cool. Several pictures I had seen, like one of him in riot gear (2020), which brought back some horrible memories.
Lisa, that's actually a GREAT attitude. However, I do let them know if the food isn't to my "liking", especially if it's, as you say "overloaded" with anything. Lots of people can't digest that kind of thing and many kitchens will take that into account in the future. With Corey eating what you had leftover, they wouldn't have to worry about accommodating your meal, so it would just be a suggestion.
Annie, I know this is drastic, but have you ever thought of getting a safe for the medication? I mean that's what they do in the assisted living facility at my mom's place. They have to give her her meds and so they do not ALLOW her to even have Tylenol. Absolutely NO meds if she is on a med plan and all meds are in a safe in her kitchen. Just a thought. I know that it might make your mom feel very violated, but it would keep her "SAFE"!
Blessed SONday!

Tracey ~ Great pics of you and the grands at the fair. They are so cute!
Rebecca & Machka ~ Oh how I would have loved to tan like you two. Every summer I would burn, burn, and burn some more but no real tan. Now I am paying for it!
Heather ~ Such lovely family photos!
Kylia ~ Glad your accident was minor and y'all are safe.

Keep pills in a lockbox in the kitchen. Just tell her you are her "Pill Queen" and that's that. No having her fill the container, she just takes what you give her. End of story. Just like she has the job of taking them, you have your job of giving them to her correctly. I know she's independently stubborn, but you have youth on your side!

Just my thoughts but can you suggest the box for yourself and make her think what you’re try to do for her is in your own best interest. Tell her you know she can do it but it helps you to keep track when you/ she needs to get more pills. Maybe by making her think what you are doing is for you not her, she may allow some of the changes/help? I use a pill box and have one for my DH and my dogs! Lol without, the pills would get all mixed up and my DH would probably be barking at people walking by!🤪

Morning or afternoon ladies
Well Alfie woke me at 6 this morning and i got him out and put his food out stayed a wake and then fell back asleep until noon.
Got up and did some stuff around here..
I dont know but i think maybe the a-fib might be back just not feeling 100% i have a physical Tuesday and will bring it up.
Heather- wow glad your son was able to pull off getting that vacation set..
Annie- i dont know if this helps at all but they have a automatic pill dispenser that is locked and is only programmed to open at the times that are set by caregiver.. might be worth a shot..
Its beautiful outside.. but im just lying down inside after doing a few things..3 -
Annie - If you have sacrificed your life to look after your parents, then you need to insist they do it safely. No half measures. You are either their carer, or you are not. Big girl pants on! You are the adult in this situation.
Behind us, in the next street, quite some way away, they are obviously having some kind of Jubilee party, with loud announcements and music. Very annoying. The weather isn't great, so I hope it will stop soon. On our walk home we passed at least three street parties. DH has been irritated all four days with all the nonsense. I've found it annoying, but also amusing. Apart from the loud thumping music.

Husbands and vegetables, Joe was always a “pig for breakfast, cow for dinner” guy until he finally listened to the Dr. Now he actually eats plant based protein most days, stir fried with the bowl of fresh veggies I prep for him. While I was down for the count he added frozen mixed veggies most days. So grateful. We both cook for ourselves as we eat at such different times.
Lisa I can just see you zipping around on that mower, doing doughnuts, mowing patterns in the grass…
Debbie, loved your travelling with cat, hamsters and first husband story. Before I met Joe, I tried to camp at Kennedy Meadows by myself. It snowed, so I slept in my Toyota Corolla SR5 with two dogs. Fortunately it was a liftback!
Machka great idea for Annie’s family to do their meds together. Might dance around Mom’s resistance. Do you have full spectrum lights?
Kylia SUV rear-ended your Miata with no damage done? Thankful for that miracle! Let us know how you like the plant based protein shake.
Lanette added “Gone from my sight…” to my list of “Lanette recommends:…” Thank you.
Ginny safe travels. If you like the complex would you share?
Tracey we have the Hee Haw collection too. Thanks for reminding me, will get it out and make popcorn when we need a lift.
Katla the female humming bird stopped by my feeder this morning. Did you send her? Thanks!

I went outside to prune a rhododendron beside our front walk. The new leaves are very sticky. The rain that just started has rescued me. ❤️1

it rained last night and this morning- it was wonderful- we very rarely get any this time of year. It wasn't a lot but we will take what we can get. I will have to dry out the catio- the tarp moved and now there is a puddle in the bottom of it.
Went to church by myself. DH worked last night and came home about the time I was getting ready and went to bed. Many were missing today- some on vacation but others sick, including the pastor- tested positive for Covid on Thursday. He was supposed to go out of town to speak at a graduation then preach at another church this weekend. His son who is the associate pastor said he was at home getting better. Sorry he is sick but maybe he will take this just a bit more serious. Up until now, most of them there just think it is just a bad cold(even though we have lost at least two members to it)
Going to try and make some seafood chowder in the pressure cooker this afternoon. Usually use the frozen seafood mix for my version of pho but want something different tonight- hope it turns out ok.
