I really have to get one of those magnet locks for it... one of those "gotta-do-it" things. It's very old, but totally reliable, but the way it's positioned, there's just "this much" of a vacuum that prevents it from closing if you don't PUSH IT closed. Every so often, one of the littles goes in there to grab an icee and forgets and it's just a smidge and we don't notice until we do. Usually it's not a huge deal except for the caked frost!!! Unless it's 90deg, in July or August (or like it was in June this year) Hence the magnet idea. We finally had to tell them just NOT to go in there at all. Heck, Freddy's even had it happen to him, so we can't really get mad at them.
Oh geez, Michele, that's horrible! The tree is a wonderful idea.
BUT...
I HAVE TO CHIME IN HERE about the balloons!!! PLEASE DON'T RELEASE BALLOONS!!! They're so terrible for the environment and I am NOT a huge tree-hugger at all, but the balloon releases are horrible for the birds and wildlife and they clog up the rivers and stream and they end up landing in peoples yards and well just anywhere and everywhere. It's really just disgusting. Don't even get me started about those "memorial" Chinese lanterns! Those things are even worse! Do you have any idea how many fires those have started?!? On trees, bushes, even homes!
Sorry, not really sorry. That's just my soapbox. I'll stop now.
It's funny, Tracey. I think I've apologized more to my mom in the last thirty years than I ever did while I was living with her. I know what your friend is talking about. For better or worse, our daughter has an only son. I don't think she's going to ever "get it" because I don't think he's going to give her nearly the heartache.
Hi Victoria! Welcome! Good luck with your choices and your journey. We're here for you.

I agree on the balloon thing, we don’t realize til we know, u know?

Well… came back from my appointment. They said I must be the most active person in the building, lolol. Since I thought he wouldn’t recommend surgery now, I offered a suggestion. To assign me physical therapy so I can be told what safe exercises to do to build my strength again and if it didn’t improve then he said he would suggest going in a putting in a new plate but he did see that it is getting better through the X-ray. Next appointment is aug 23rd. I’m happy with that. I’m just tired of dealing with it and want it back to normal. So no heavy lifting, no rowing machine, no push ups which is what I was going to start doing (glad I talked to him). Physical therapy will let me know what I can and can not do.10

It's been a busy summer. Had bike incident. No major damage, just bruised up a bit. That's nothing compared to how bad my knees hurt before that.
Went to Comic-Con for the first time ever. Was fun, but far too people-y for me. I had to take frequent breaks to get away from them.
The mister jammed his toe and thought he broke his food. X-rays don't show it broken, but it may have a hairline fracture. So, he's decided not to eat, since he cannot exercise much. Well, he doesn't think he can. He's an all or nothing guy. This means I will be cooking even less than I already do, which isn't much. I need to figure out recipes for 1.
Headed to a concert tonight. I hate the venue because the traffic in and out is atrocious. I'll need a ery healthy dose of patience.
Add me to no balloons. We went out diving off our friend's boat a while back and on the way back to the marina, we picked no less than 14 balloons out of the ocean. It was less than 30 minutes in a very small area, considering how huge the ocean is. Dolphins, turtles, and all kinds of marine life is killed by them.
Add to that, a shortage of helium which is used for all kinds of things, including medical equipment.
Still reading along....

Went to water exercise today and the water felt wonderful. Michelle you are so lucky to have a pool that you can use anytime. They are a lot of work though.
I saw my cardiologist last week and he agreed to my going off of the statins for 6 months and see how things go. I was able to swim a few laps today without having cramps. Yeah! When I can do more than 10 bridges for PT without cramps I will know things are better.
Hope those of you in the heat waves are able to keep cool.
Everyone take care, Sue in WA3 -
Kelly: That’s so sad. I don’t envy you having to broach the subject of death with them, but I’m sure you will find a sensitive way to do it.
But not the balloons! As others have said, not good for wildlife.
I have an aversion to debt, due to my childhood experiences and have saved all my life. DH and I have separate accounts, but both have access to them. We split bills. We keep a reasonable amount of assessable cash for emergencies.4 -
Pip that's great news. PT is better than more surgery even if it takes some time.
I have a date on Friday, for lunch and maybe a walk if it isn't too hot. So I might go buy an outfit tomorrow. I have Capri pants with peach and coral flowers, so I might look for something to go with that. So hard to find something with the right neckline and the right color. I used to have a little white miniskirt, but it wouldn't fit even if I could find it. I have to dress the body I have now, not what I used to have.

Pip-good news on shoulder. I think you doing pits wise. If I am left to my own devices I will push things too much.
Allie-your cardiologist sounds like a real person-good luck with testing.
A WhineGot a bit down about prolapsed stuff today. PT was difficult. Got the "poor message" for a minute and thought "this isn't going to work." PT reminded me that even if I have to have surgery we need muscles in best possible shape for it to work. She then pointed out a couple of smaller improvements. Will just keep moving forward.
Weather is cooler here this week with intermittent rain. Actually very nice.
Going to go make lunch for tomorrow and go read. You all have piqued my interest and I purchased Spector's book-not far into it yet, but interesting.
Take care all,

Worked then got to the gym. I know Vince isn’t going to want to hear this, but I think on Tuesdays I’ll need to get to BK early. They make their delivery early now and usually don’t leave until around 7. Now that she’s started that lunchtime yoga, I won’t have time for exercise if I get there around 11 or 11:30 since I have to be out of the aerobics room by 12:15. So if I can go earlier, I’m not going to be rushed. After the gym stopped at the Salvation Army and I actually found 2 exercise DVD’s that I didn’t own (yes, they do exist). Then came home, got dinner ready and then into the pool. It’s starting to spritz so I came in
Well, throwing the breaker overnight for the washing machine didn’t fix it. The guy is supposed to be here tomorrow. Hopefully, he can fix it tomorrow. If not, the only thing that needs to be washed out are my BK shirts, and if I have to, I can rinse them out by hand and hang them up to dry.
Victoria – welcome! You’ll get some great suggestions here, that’s for sure
Heather – my husband likes cargo pants, but only the jean-type. And try to find them! He did find a few on eBay, so he bought them all
There’s this new place here called “All bundt cake”. Well, I went in to see what it was about. They did have samples so I tried some. I tell you, the cake wasn’t anything to write home about. To me, it tasted like a box cake mix. And the frosting was like something you get at the food store. But I guess this is good for people who don’t bake. But no way would I pay their prices!
Pip – I’m sure you ARE the most active person. Great suggestion you made
Regarding the balloons: remember, this was probably like 30 years ago. All they were thinking of was that the cards with her name (hence, her) are going to heaven
Got my walk in after dinner then tried playing canasta online. Each time I had questions and there was no way I could get them answered.

I did my dumbbells Yay! I had to rearrange stuff but I got it done today so I could exercise tonight.

When we moved into our house eleven years ago, it had a furnace and all the appliances. Since then we have replaced the furnace, microwave, stove, refrigerator, and dishwasher. At least once a week a week I thank the washer and dryer for being so well behaved and not needing to be replaced. The washer needed repair once, and I remember being grateful that I had to go to the laundromat only once before it was fixed.

Carla I agree about balloons. I would like to add the circle shiny confetti. It is all over near a playground by our rec center. I am also dealing with picking up stuffing all summer. I think the birds tore apart an old couch. I think I have it all picked up and then I find more of it in our yard. It is some kind of polyester so what little rain and or water from a sprinkler is blocked by it being in our yard where it lands.3

I'm lying on the bed in the front guest room typing this. At my feet are four pairs of pants that DH is donating to the charity shop! Hooray! Another pair is in the bin. Double hooray!
When I first met him, 19 years ago, he had a wardrobe absolutely crammed with pants and shirts. I had never seen so many in my life. When we moved in together, I helped him winnow it down a bit, and throw away the white jeans, (I wish he had kept those now) but he still has twice the number of clothes that I have!
Yesterday, before we picked up the girls, he announced that he was going to sort out his pants. I mentioned that he used to have a lot. He denied it! Then he got them all out of the cupboard.
"Oh, I do have a lot of trousers!"
He only ever wears cargo pants. Six good pairs now. One in the bin. He wears a suit on the cruise for formal and other pants maybe once a year. I think he was surprised at the haul.
So, I am delighted that some are leaving the house.
Really he needs a new suit, as his are much too large for him. He bought them when big was fashionable. He has two good ones, expensive, so I can't see him buying new for the cruises. He never wears them at any other time. He has a dark linen jacket and trousers for funerals.
I have a small wardrobe, compared to most women, I think. I'm fairly ruthless with throwing things out, though there are a couple of dressy things that I haven't worn in forty years. I think they may be going out with the pants!
I live in black leggings and colourful tops. Even on the cruise. I have a few nice day dresses and prefer maxi.
I weighed myself yesterday for the first time since before the cruise. I was dreading it, as, during covid, I had eaten junk and drunk too much for about two weeks. (I am now reformed.) I had only put on two pounds! I feel I can deal with that, although I do have a bit more to lose to get back to my ideal weight. It was a relief, honestly. I am feeling fat and I don't like it. I'm following a very healthy diet and have cut right back on the booze, though I did have one last night after Bea finally left. AF tonight.
Tonight is sauerkraut with fresh cabbage and Polish sausage, onions, bacon. Lots of caraway and juniper berries. A couple of potatoes for DH. I use Martini vermouth as a declazer. All done in the IP. The sauerkraut and sausage is just heated up at the end. Cabbage barely cooked. Very yum.
Love you all, Heather UK xxxxxxxx4 -
Pip: Great idea on the PT. Hoping it comes through quickly.
Heather: I hear you on hubby’s clothes. Mine has trouser and shirts galore. He has started winnowing them a little. Small steps.
I’m in packing mode today. The ferry is late tonight getting in to Liverpool at 6.30am. We should be in Oxford late afternoon.

Terri - Hope the travels go smoothly with no hitches. Do you have a cabin?
Done my chapter, and briefly looked at my blurb and biog. Small steps. I may pop out for milk in a moment. Saves DH having to lug it home on his fruit and veg shop tomorrow. I take my wheeled trolley.

Morning ladies
Didn't sleep well..Alfie is having tummy troubles and decided to make a mess and poop and scoot all over the living room rug..when i got home last night and in the middle of the night.. so I am just leaving him with dry food for awhile i have been mixing .. plus he needs to go to the groomers tomorrow..
But ugh.. im hoping ill be able to get my carpet cleaner out..4 -
Allie ~ I feel for you about the pooping! When my Pom had a problem, he would go under our large dining room table. I would have to crawl under the table to clean it up. That was a mess!
Karen VA ~ How is your transition to new housing going? And, how is your partner doing? As I remember, she was having a lot of problems getting around.
Bought some lottery tickets and I think I won $2! Can't see how so many were sold and no big winner and only a few others.

Carol,
We are in process of selling and donating furniture so we will have some room to maneuver/stage our move.
My spouse is about the same. She works with a trainer to maintain her mobility. She is able to sort through drawers and papers, and can load the shredding machine, all of which helps.
Thanks for asking!

Karen, sending many hugs to you and your spouse. Someone told me years ago that it was no surprise that "move" was a four letter word. There is so much work and so much emotion and so much uncertainty that even the promise of a better tomorrow isn't sufficient to offset it.
Pip hooray for P.T. rather than surgery.
Another warm day coming up so I'm off to get my 10,000 steps before the heat starts.

Hi, y'all,
Talked to my daughter this morning already. That is one happy girl (I say girl, she's 31). The guy that she's seeing now (another soldier) hasn't been able to go out in public with her until her divorce--which was final yesterday. The Army frowns on adultery. He seems like a decent human being, and mature enough to handle what life throws at him. She's over-the-moon happy because the divorce was final yesterday, and this morning, she's sitting outside the social security office waiting for them to open so she can get her maiden name back. So nice to listen to her cup run over with joy instead of pain.
Yesterday was a bad day - after I went to Walmart, I came home and just rested. While I was at Walmart, my entire system started going into spasms that spanned from my breastbone to my pelvis. None of the meds I've got helped. However, in the category of "always darkest before the dawn," today I feel great. Tired, but great. Not every day will be good, and I'm genuinely grateful that most of them really are.
Hope everyone's doing well today. Here's your moment of zen...
Love y'all,
Lisa in AR

Good morning ladies!
Lisa sorry that you are still plagued by illness. I remember having a blinding migraine in a hardware store, nothing to do but wait it out because I couldn't see to find my car, let alone drive home. The aura passes in thirty minutes or so, and then I can see again. I had a mild one when my guests were here.
I think my mom's MRI results were good. She has brain damage from high blood pressure. But since her blood pressure is under control now, it shouldn't get any worse, unlike Alzheimer's. That's a relief.

Good morning ladies!
Lisa - what happy news for your daughter! Glad to hear you are feeling better. Having abdominal distress at Walmart is not uncommon. Loved the photo of Egg. Gray kitties are my favorite.
Barbie - I didn't get in 10,000 steps but got in nearly a mile this morning as the sun was coming up. We replaced all appliances here too, some a couple times (fridge - 3 in 15 years!). I remember during the 60's/70's, refrigerator-freezers were avocado or kind of a bronze (coppertone?) color. The door gaskets wore out long before the motor and innards. I keep looking on the local FB ads to see if someone has one they are getting rid of. Seriously.
Karen - sure hope the trainer is helping your partner, she has had quite the ordeal. Agree with Barbie, MOVE is a four letter word. Grateful that you aren't rushed and can take your time. I'm afraid I'd save everything for the last minute anyhow. In the meanwhile, some stuff is just meant for the garbage can and thrift stores. Baby steps add up.
Annie - good luck on your date! Glad your mom's BP is under control, glad her memory loss isn't progressive. I think people can learn to cope very well and there is evidence our brains continue to rewire in our later years. Crossing fingers.
Pip - the PT's will have to run to keep up with you. Sounds like the best solution.
Ginny - hope you enjoy Tim Spector's book. I'll get back into one once I get the kitchen cleaned up this morning. Your PT sounds caring and gave you good advice.
I made Kefir yesterday. Bought starter packets at the health food store, added one to boiled and cooled milk. It set up nicely overnight, now it's in the fridge for 8 hours. Sort of smells like yogurt. I'm hoping I can use a couple tablespoons as starter for the next batch, it will be interesting to see what it looks like after I stir it. Can't wait to taste it.
Missing DH a lot because I've had a heck of a time unscrewing jar lids and twisting off some bottle caps! Finally managed - tapping edge of lid with a knife to get a jar open, used a nutcracker to grasp bottle cap. I might have to break down and get one of those opening gadgets. Have some neat can openers, that's not a problem. DH used to say "who's going to unscrew lids when I'm not here?" I almost tramped across the street to take it to Roger.
Have a wonderful day!
Lanette
SW WA State where it's currently 58 degrees and I have windows open, fans going. Hoping to save the A/C for afternoon.

Well, there ya go, Pip!!! You sorta knew what your body could handle. So glad you talked to him before you did too much! I sure hope it gets better soon too. You ARE the most activer person in your building, probably in your city!
Oh no, Tina... sorry about the bruises. Glad you'll heal.
I get'cha about Comic-Com. Went to a Heroes and Villains con several times a couple years ago with a vendor friend of mine. Was REALLY fun, but way too peoply for me too. She adores people and is way into TWD and some of those shows so she was in her element! I loved watching her booth while she was able to go out and hobnob with a whole bunch of the stars for whom she'd made custom, etched glasses.
Lisa, so glad today is better. I remember having "those days" too. Here's to BETTER DAYS more often. So happy for your daughter.
Oh Lanette, the things we take for granted, huh? You have such a wonderful attitude towards life. I'm sorry it's jar lids that are getting you down. Maybe take the next one and just throw it against a brick wall just to teach it a lesson. (the other ones in the cabinet will get the message and not give you so much trouble, eh?)
Love you ladies!
Carla, in MN
ps. tomorrow the AC! pray for me... they're coming at 7am and will be here for 8-10 hours!!!5
