I wear Oofos, but they don't seem to be helping. Maybe Crocs are what I need. Thanks for this.

My Buddhist book group is today. I need to put on my big girl panties and just quit. There's only three of us left, and we are going in such different directions. The other lady presented last time and her material instead of being thought provoking was just ridiculous. Totally ignorant of the basic tenets of Buddhism. She will believe anything that makes a poetic image. I need to find a way to quit gracefully and truthfully without expressing my misgivings. My mother taught me to hold my tongue and just sit through the nonsense, but it's time to go. I will miss the social aspect.

I have an appointment with my doctor tomorrow. I had bloodwork done in June and have not wanted to go in and talk with him about it. If I want to get healthier, it's time to go. I'm tired of being so tired.
Annie: I'm sorry you are losing your book group. That must be frustrating.

Has anyone tried Birkenstocks?
Birkenstocks have a very hard sole, in my opinion. They are not comfortable to me.1 -
Afternoon again ladies
Folded laundry and put it away and that was the extent except for getting Homer out
So Tracy called me asking if I could watch Miles for an hour or so on Thursday because she has an interview for a new job. I had no plans so of course will help out ,they also will be having the heat/ac guys there working wed, thurs, friday so I'll be there.. went to dollar tree and got a birthday bag and a card for Eastons birthday on Saterday..0 -
Pip, I wore Birkenstocks for years. The last pair I bought I just couldn't get "broken in" - it seemed as if the sole/footbed was stiffer or different than previously. I loved my Birkies up until that point. I might try them again!

Yea. Finally we got rain. About 5 inches. We also got a break in the 100 degree temps. So happy
Barbara- glad to see you again. When I get too far behind, I go the last two or three pages and see what the conversations are snout. Can’t see well enough to read loads of pages.

Well I didn't manage to quit the book group but I did say that we are headed in different directions and we need a book to help us focus. That pushes my decision back another week or more. So a compromise. I guess I'm okay with it.

I just watched the video series from our favorite physical therapists, Bob and Brad, and I don't have the indications it's plantar fasciitis. My arches don't hurt. My feet just feel like I've been standing up all day. I don't know what it is.

Hi Gals,
Katla – so happy that you and DH have help and support. It’s hard to leave Oregon behind, but for now DH needs to get stronger. Bats are definitely not my favorite animal especially in a building ! but they are sure great at keeping the other insect populations under control. When I worked at camp they were always in my office, I wore a hat inside, I did not want them in my hair!
Heather – If there is a good camera shop in your town they may be able to refer you to a budding professional photographer who would give you a good price.
Barbara in S. Oregon – I like the idea of the running count of plant based food….. think I’ll do that too.
Allie – the egg substitute I use is called Aquafaba, but you buy canned beans and just pour off the liquid in the can and there you go it is aquafaba. It is not really a product you go out and buy.
Tina – do you think your hubby understands that he leaves all the planning to you? Sometimes the hardest thing is to have someone “understand” what they have done. Especially if it has worked that way for a while.
Plantar fasciitis I dealt with this years ago and a combo of good arch support and acupuncture solved it.
Pip – I have not had a pair of Birkenstocks in years, but I am saving up for a pair, I wore them everywhere with great success for many years. Then I decided they were ugly, I have gotten over that. I will get the old school ones with leather and cork, not the newer plastic based ones.
Plant based foods week of 8/22Lettuce, tomato, wheat, basil, eggplant, sun dried tomato, oregano, walnuts

I haven't flown a long distance since April. I asked my doctor and she said it was not DVT or circulation. I was worried though. She thinks plantar fasciitis. I think one foot leans more toward a bursitis. The problem is that they are different treatments! One stretches the foot downward, the other upward.
The calf thing is most likely a tear or strain of some type. I was walking and it felt like a small ball smacked me hard in the back of the leg. She ordered an MRI, but of course it's taking an eternity.

He is usually very happy with that, but I do recall hiccups in the past when he felt I was 'taking over'. I'm also the ideas person, so I don’t have that problem. Diplomacy is necessary.
I also do things on my own, or with girlfriends, which he finds a bit unsettling, but doesn't object. He doesn't necessarily like it, but I would do it anyway and he would be embarrassed to object as he prides himself on being a feminist. He can be jealous of my attachment to my girlfriends and my delight in people I 'follow' in the media. He never says so, but he does feel shut out sometimes. For example, I would love to chat with his sister, who I get on with really well, but he would find my ringing her up independently very anxiety making. I am tactful about that. He is sensitive about rejection, but it's usually within bounds.
I hesitate to give advice about husbands, but it looks as if you already know what path to take. Sometimes when we change, people resist. But in the end, our truth is better for them too.

I do not like planning, because when I go on vacation, I like some amount of time to just randomly explore or to sit and read a book and/or relax. He needs constant entertainment. I prefer him to plan, then he is not bored. I will make flight reservations, hotels, etc. Activities, I prefer him to do it so he does what he likes, especially if it's a diving vacation. I'm happy just being in the warm water and seeing whatever I see. He has critters and places he wants to check of his diving bucket list. He works part time and spends almost every evening watching hours upon hours of television. He can spend a few hours planning a vacation for the two of us.
If I have an idea, I'll make it happen because it's something I want to do. But I don't like him spouting his ideas and just expecting me to make it happen, because he always has something in mind he wants to do and I always plan it wrong. That's why I quit project management. I got burnt out on that system.
He says he wishes I had more friends...though if I did, he'd be jealous.

Is it the people, the books, or the Buddhism that has held your interest? Thinking about that question might help you decide if you want to continue.AthleteLori wrote: »I have an appointment with my doctor tomorrow. Well, I'm bummed. I had to fire my house cleaner today. She has had trouble scheduling us in for our regular every two week Monday cleaning for a while. Today she said she'd be here at 2:00. Dave and I made plans to go do errands while she was here, but we couldn't leave until she got here. When she didn't show by 3:30, he was livid and left to do the majority of the errands by himself. the one thing we needed to do together did not happen and now probably won't. I am most upset about that. She finally texted at 4:30 to say she wasn't going to make it today. I wrote a very nice text back, asking if she had another day that was more open that we could move to so that our time would be consistent or did we need to look for another cleaner. I explained that we had to cancel our plans and that Dave gets very anxious when she doesn't show when she is supposed to. She said it would probably be best if we found somebody else. I have reached out to two cleaners for quotes. I know it is going to be more, but if they are consistent, it will be worth it.11

Worked, took Jerry home, then was supposed to go to the home of a friend of mine to pick up a bisque (for ceramics) of a pelican that I’ll make for a lady at the condo. She is sooooo sweet, she remembers MIL (who has been dead for about 15 years.) Only the gal wasn’t going to be home for another 1-1/5 hour so I decided to just come home and I’ll get it tomorrow after the church (counting donations). The good part is that I think I may have found a shorter way to get to the gym! So that’s good news. Not sure if it’s shorter than the way I had been going.
Pip – I LOVE my Birkenstocks. As a matter of fact, the bottom part of the pair that I have got torn off. I tried to get another pair but they are all out of stock. So we repaired them with Gorilla Glue. As soon as they come back in stock, I fully plan to get another pair.
Got dinner ready then made chocolate bran muffins
Had the worst day at work today. Warning: rant coming. Feel free to skip.
Usually, things don’t bother me. Well, the tomato slicer was the first thing. See, it’s 2 parts. You put 4 tomatoes in and pull the top part down and it slices the tomatoes. Well, this part on the bottom is bending, just like it did on the other one. I told one of the managers (who in my estimation is one fry short of a Happy Meal) that the problem was that it wasn’t lining up, the one part on top is bent. She went on and on how it was my fault, how she did it for 3 months and never had a problem. It’s just getting worse, and it will continue to until the cause is addressed (which I suspect will never happen). Logic says that if it was my fault (or the fault of anyone doing prep) then it would happen everywhere. And it isn’t. Why? Because things aren’t lining up.
Then, there is a leak in the roof. Where the water is coming from, I’m not sure. She’s convinced that it’s from the roof, she was told that it’s from the water lines for the drinks, my feeling is that it’s the a/c. But whatever. I thought I saw drops of water going into the sink. If I’m right (I’ll put a piece of cardboard over the sink and if it’s wet, water is getting into the food), I’m going to mention it to another one of the higher-up managers because water from an unknown source is getting into the food. But I know that I need proof of it. The manager who I think is a fry short told the store manager that I showed her one leak (which is true, but at the time it really wasn’t bad), but it got worse. She told the store manager that she’d told this one guy to put a bucket under the leak. I know that isn’t completely true. He saw the situation and took it on himself to wipe the floor and put the bucket there. I know because I was right there. All day I had water dripping on me. There was a small bucket right where I stand so I had to constantly move around. I swear, I have a poncho and if I’m getting drops of water on me tomorrow, I’ll put it on. I don’t care if my BK hat gets wet. Then the gal who I was to get the bisque from couldn’t be there. One thing after another.
Yesterday there was supposed to be this “meeting” at BK. When I got there I found out it had been canceled (as you know). Well, it seems that this manager did call, Vince didn’t answer because he didn’t recognize the name, but she didn’t leave a message. Wouldn’t logic say that even if someone doesn’t answer, you leave a message. Maybe that person is in the bathroom and just can’t get to the phone. It doesn’t necessarily mean they aren’t home.
She asked me Sat. to put the date on the corner. (the date needs to be on this sticker so that stock is sure to be rotated) Because she needs to change the date. Not sure why, but that doesn’t matter. So when I went in today I asked her how it worked out. She said she hasn’t done it yet. Well, when I left about 5 hours later, it still hadn’t been done.
Pretty cloudy out and I don’t think I’ll get into the pool. But I’ll go work on the jigsaw puzzle some
Went for a walk to Food Lion. I can get some pasta and sides for a low price. To be honest, I’m getting bored with just walking around the block, this changes things up some.
Anne DE – I hope your mom doesn’t have a bad reaction.
Worked more on the puzzle, now to bed.
Night all.

Belated welcome @kamaphia Heather in VA. I loathe “exercise” but love to dance. Is there some activity you enjoy?
Likewise belated welcome @anelou66 Anne in Fenwick, not to be confused with our Annie in DE.
Belated welcome back to @StefieS Stefie in DC. Late night eating is a tough one for me too, and always shows at weigh in. It helps me if I can “plan” a small snack (like a single square of bittersweet chocolate) to have as I go to bed, then it’s lights out.

Machka - that’s good your DH wasn’t injured.
It seems GP’s are going that way here in Canada too. I read an article yesterday about our healthcare system and how it is failing, quite disturbing.
Heather - I hope you get a good nap in today.
The local radio station does a “weird or what” segment. This week the topic was Living Funerals. I didn’t know this was a thing, but apparently it is becoming a thing. It seems weird to me, but it would be cool to see the people you love all in one place.
Rita - congratulations on the job! Glad they figured out the issue with the med. They sure are hard to get balanced sometimes. The pharmacist has always been very helpful for me figuring stuff out.
Debbie - 😂 that’s my stance when I sneeze or cough.
Machka - a dry stream sounds beautiful.
Debbie - I hope you MIL doesn’t run off the carer you have coming. You and DH both need the break.
Heather - That’s exciting to get your book. I like picky-lunches and meals myself. That’s what we are doing next Saturday night at youngest daughters.
I just love your posts. They always brighten my day.
Barbie - that’s a shame your friend for Covid, hopefully it’s a mild case and you can get back to walking in a week or so.
Tina - I’ve been in the figuring myself out mode too. My biggest source of unhappiness right now is that I’m not feeling connected to hubby.
Katla - Hugs to you. I hope it all works out for the best for you.
We have bats near the manor and they fly in there sometimes when there is a delivery and the doors are left open. I lock myself in my office until it is dealt with. I am terrified of them.
Tina - it sounds like you and DH need to have a heart to heart it sounds kinder than “I have a bone to pick with you”.
I understand your frustration though, it’s the same in our house.
Tonight I went and picked up some things for our camping this week. I texted him to ask if he wanted to take the Keurig or buy instant coffee. He said, “it’s up to you”. I was cursing in the grocery aisle! I told him that he drinks and makes way more coffee than me so that’s why I asked him. He responded with, “either works”. Then I stood there for 15 minutes debating which would be best. 😕
Karen - that is beautiful!
Pip - Birkenstock is all my daughter wears since she hurt her ankle so many times she’s always in pain. She says it’s much better.
I personally find them very hard, but I never give them a chance l. It might be what my feet need.
Annie - I think that was fair, you are giving it a chance to be what you need.
One of my coworkers put in her notice today. I’m really going to miss her. She is going to ask for an exit interview.
We are going camping tomorrow and won’t be back until Friday. I’m not sure if I’ll have wifi or not.
If not I’ll chat Friday.

Tina, I might actually know what this is!
On the back of the calf, there is a muscle with a long thin tendon called the plantaris:
In humans, it's considered to be a rudimentary muscle. It's more important to emus and ostriches.
Anyway, when it ruptures, most commonly when a person is running or walking rapidly uphill, or dorsiflexing their foot (stretching the tendon), it can snap like an overstretched rubber band. When that happens, it feels as though the calf was smacked by something; often people think a ball hit the calf and look around to see what hit them!
Of course the MRI may show something else, but your description is classic for plantaris tendon rupture.

Good Morning ladies
Phew, busy few days, had an awful Friday - rant below hopefully in a spoiler if I've done it right. My mum called Thursday night to say the district nurse had visited but couldn't give her an enema because she didn't have it with her. DN was going to call back on Friday about 1pm (as far as mum understood). I went to mums around 11am and stayed with her. When it got to 3pm and no sign of the nurse I called them only to be told that a nurse was not due to visit that day. I was not pleased and told them so! Someone called me back and after a bit of backwards and forwards was told that I needed to collect the enema from the pharmacy. Why did the doctor not mention that on Monday when she referred mum to the District Nurse. Honestly talk about lack of communication! Had to dash to the pharmacy, call them back to say I had it, was told someone would be on their way "shortly". Now this was around 4pm we were both getting a bit fed up by this point, but thought at least they are on their way - No, the nurse didn't turn up until 7pm and then had a face like a slapped *kitten* and didn't introduce herself and hardly spoke, she gave mum the enema and was out the door without a goodbye or any small talk within a few minutes. At least mum is a little more comfortable now.
We also had a burst water pipe right outside our driveway. Called Yorkshire Water and after a weekend of reduced water pressure they finally fixed the leak yesterday evening (Monday) We now have a great big hole outside our house, I wonder if it will take them another 4 days to fill it in and concrete our drive so we can use it again.
I am going to the coast tomorrow with hubby's auntie, using my bus pass for the first time. I am so looking forward to it. Sitting in the sunshine watching the sea is my idea of relaxing. An Ice cream would make it even better I really need a break, I'd move to the sea side if I could. It was one of mine and hubby's dreams to retire to live by the sea.
I'd better get a move on, I'm volunteering at the Theatre this morning and I have a ton of things to do first.
Take care and love to all
