Viv - what a rigamarole with your mom’s enema. All for something she probably wasn’t looking forward to to begin with. Very frustrating.
I would like to sit by the sea too. We are very landlocked here, but are going to be near a lake today.
Rosemarie - you are going through a trying time. I don’t know if I would marry again either. I think it would solely be dependent on the man. I am quite capable of taking care of myself but I would be lonely.
My Aunt was married twice, her first husband died young he was only 53. He was paralyzed from the waist down due to something with a cancer. She remarried 15 years later, none of us really liked him a whole lot and thought she was happier alone. The second husband fell while out for a walk one day and was paralyzed from the waist down as well. She took care of him until she developed Alzheimer’s. His daughter came when she was unwell and had her sign everything over to her. It was a mess.
She did everything, plus work outside the home for both men. She also raised 7 children and 3 siblings. She was/is one of my idols.
DH left 4 hours ago to get the camper. He didn’t look at the wiring system before now to see if it matched or worked with his vehicle, so he’s been trying to make it work all morning. I hope he gets here soon.
Carla - I would like to be a fly on the wall too. One thing she is going to suggest is that they start interviewing the leadership team and those that have already left.
Heather - you and Johnny have worked out a great system.
I do most everything except outside work. I even work with getting quotes, finding trades, mechanics. Ugh!
It sounds like not working summers would be a good compromise to not retiring. I don’t know when I’ll be ready to retire. I like to keep busy and most of the things I enjoy cost money.
I can’t wait to see your pottery.
Rita - I hope the reset works wonders for you.
DH left 4 hours ago to get our daughter’s camper. He didn’t look at the wiring system before now to see if it matched or worked with his vehicle, so he’s been trying to make it work all morning. I asked him last week if it worked, he said it should. I left it for him to deal with. I’ve been learning to do that. I hope he gets here soon.
Our temps are cooler but only because of the fires in BC covering the sun. It’s now calling for rain on Saturday. I hope that changes. We have an exciting evening planned with grands and the girls.

I'm going out to dinner tomorrow night so I was trying on dress pants today. I always have a bunch that I could wear if I lost five pounds. And several pair much smaller than that. It is discouraging to think about how many years I have kept all these clothes. Oh well, the green blouse is new.

I have been pleased for DH. He has had a couple of appointments for physical therapy and is doing well. He has scheduled more appointments. This has been very helpful and productive. Good news!10

Worked but did get in a walk to Food Lion tonight.
The leak at BK was much much worse today. I talked to the “manager” and told her that we can’t have water dripping into the food (not to mention that there was no way I was going to stand there) and asked her what we were going to do. Do you know that she just said “I don’t know”. There was another employee (who Jerry has said has been there for something like 20 years) to who I finally said “if the health department ever saw that, can you imagine what would happen”. She finally said “shut us down”.
I suggested when the “manager” said that she didn’t know what we were going to do, my suggestion was that maybe we could prepare the prep off site? She just shook her head “no”. At least I made a suggestion, I didn’t just stand there and say “I don’t know what we’re going to do”. Finally, the other employee suggested that I do the prep at the other sink. That I could do. Admitted, it was a bit inconvenient and it took me a bit longer, but it got done. The “manager” said “he’s coming to fix it”. I don’t know if she meant today or not. Even so, there’s no guarantee that it would be fixed. So I asked her if she wanted me to wait until it was fixed. That’s when the other gal suggested I use the other sink.
Then counted the donation money at the church then picked up a piece of bisque that I’ll paint for a lady at the condo. Got dinner ready then went in the pool.
Tracey – have fun camping
Good news – we ARE going to see Denise, Pete and PJ on Labor Day weekend. Vince talked to her and confirmed that we are coming up that Sat. (he doesn’t want to drive the Fri of Labor Day weekend). I ordered a trampoline to take with us. You know how Denise is. Many times coming up with one excuse or another. I can’t wait to see PJ. Bet he’s really grown. Vince was complaining about how expensive a hotel is. Well, there's no other alternative. I'm going to suggest to him that he say something to Denise about her coming down.
Oh Viv – so glad your mother is comfortable now. What a hassle! And then the driveway! Have a good time at the coast. You certainly deserve it, that’s for sure
Rita – I have this “thing” about water over my head, too. I’m sure it’s because when I was little we were down the shore and the tide pulled me out. I still can recall that feeling of not knowing if I was upside down or not. What a scary feeling!
Heather – good luck in your class. I’m sure you’ll enjoy it.
Allie – how I wish Denise would come down here! Then at least we can see PJ for a few days. As it is, we got to see him for 1 day in June and we’ll get to see him for 2 days Labor Day weekend. Is there any chance that Tracey and Kyle can go see his parents?
I told Vince that I think Jess wants us to come up to see her. He’s so logical that because she didn’t say “will you come up” he doesn’t think so. The way she said “you’re always invited” just leads me to think that she’d like for us to come up. Vince said to her “be careful what you ask for, you know mom, you just might find her on your doorstep one day” and Jess said “that’s fine”. Mr. Logical doesn’t think she wants us, but I do. I’d like to plan to go up, maybe on a rainy Sun or even Sat. after work. We shall see, but I’m not going to drop this.
Katla – how wonderful!

Viv: I'm sorry for everything you went through with the nurse for your mom. How incredibly frustrating!
Katla: I'm glad your husband's physical therapy is going well.
I didn't go to the doctor today. I canceled because I was too dizzy to drive. It happens sometimes. My meds sometimes make me dizzy.
I have been married three times. The first time, I was in my 20s. We were married for approximately three years. In the year 2000, I got married to the love of my life. He passed away in 2008 after battling melanoma for two years. My daughter was only six years old. I remarried a few years later. That was a big mistake. We've been divorced for approximately four years. I don't plan on dating or getting married again. Sometimes I get lonely, but I don't have it in me to try again. Plus, I have my friends, family, and my dogs. Life is good.

Hi ladies. I just found this thread & have been reading some. My name is Nikki & I live here in Texas, in the Dallas area. I just started the journey again so here I am checking things out.
I’ve been doing mfp for quite sometime but off & on. My excuse…life got in the way. Things are very different for me this go-round. I am now unable to walk. I have a tumor that has wrapped itself around some nerves & this is affecting my right leg. So no walking = no exercising. I do my legs & arms but nothing that makes my heart pump or break a sweat. How do I get rid of everything that jiggles?
Eating is a problem to. My husband does the cooking but he works from home & is my caretaker. I don’t blame him from not cooking every night but eating out is dangerous. I don’t eat much especially on chemo days & I have managed to get from 253 lbs to 210 lbs. Not intentionally & not healthy. My chin is still double, my arms still flap. I would never know I lost anything if I haven’t gone down 2 dress sizes.
So I’m still wondering how to do this. Any ideas?12 -
Welcome Nikki- there are tons of ladies on here that will give you all sorts of ideas..me I can't give you much as im pretty sedentary myself except for taking car of my 7 month old grandson.. Nikki - hope you haven't gotten caught up in that flooding in the Dallas area..
Ive been awake since 2:30 a.m. ugh.. so today is going to be a day. Have to watch Miles ,they are starting the installation of there ductless heating/ac today..so I have to stick around as Kyle and Carmine will be leaving for NYC after Kyle does the walk through. Here is hoping Miles can get a nap in.1 -
Galrayne,
Welcome! You are dealing with a lot!
It sounds as if you have the means to get out of the house. Do you drive or have transportation?
Is there a chance you could get to a pool?
We have a rehab place where I live with an accessible heated indoor pool that is a godsend for people with mobility issues. They accept memberships from people even if they are not in a formal rehab program.
The other thought I had was recumbent exercise bike if you are able, and have the room or can get to a facility that has one. With your tumor, I don't know if you can use a bike, but you say you can move your legs, so it came to mind.
Final thought is add some weights or exercise bands to your routine, especially for upper body
exercises. That will burn more calories, add muscle, and strengthen your bones.

Tina...I think back to when I was younger and married. I was blindsided by the idea that I was in charge of the cooking and cleaning. I don't know why. Certainly women had been doing this since the dawn of time. I just assumed my relationship would be more modern. I have been married 30 years and don't think I have gotten over it. When my present husband passes I think about dating. I have 2 aunts who have found men at later ages. But they enjoyed their responsibilities as household manager. I just don't know if I can bring myself to be a household manager any longer. The thought of cooking or cleaning for someone and the risk of more caretaking again turn me off. Yet it is sad to be alone. And planning the vacations, I did all that. He could have cared less what we did.
Ketone Karen..Nebraska is beautiful.
Well a caretaker is coming at 6pm. I will probably have 2 hours with interruptions to do something before she comes. I should clean the baseboards but will probably try and read. I could use some exercise as well.
I talked to my husband before we got married about who would do what. We were very much partners.
Then he had the accident a little over 4 years ago, and now I do pretty much everything that requires any sort of planning or preparation ... as well as a number of things that need "doing".
Just over a year ago he had a mild heart attack, but in the few months before that, I noticed that his energy level just dropped. I went to a 9-day fortnight at work so I could help out more around the house and garden because everything was getting on top of him. Fortunately, he was able to go onto medication and his energy level increased so he's doing more but there's always lots and lots to do around a house and garden.KetoneKaren wrote: »I have the utmost empathy for people with foot pain. A few years back, I had severe bilateral plantar fasciitis, to the point it would bring me to tears at times. Once on my feet, I would avoid sitting down, because standing up was agonizing. I tried night splints, orthotics, special shoes...and finally, of all things, Crocs to the rescue. By this time, I had suffered for well over a year. I rarely wear anything other than Crocs. I don't care if they're fugly, as long as my feet don't hurt.

I wear Oofos, but they don't seem to be helping. Maybe Crocs are what I need. Thanks for this.

My most comfortable shoes are my Hoka One One trail running shoes.
My podiatrist, who I saw just a few days ago, agreed that they're good, but gave me lifts for the heels because apparently, I need a slight heel in my shoes. I've been wearing them with the lifts and they are good.
But my feet still go numb after a while.
Machka in Oz
I downloaded a list of recommended shoes from a podiatrist. Hoka is the brand for every type of shoe that they recommend. I need to look at those. I did order a pair one time, but they didn't feel great, so I sent them back. Maybe time to try again.
Hokas work for my arthritis. The rocker feature takes the pressure off that big toe joint.
I went for a walking test at a running shoe store that specialises in getting the right type of shoes for people's feet. Then I went to a podiatrist who ran all sorts of tests. And now I've been to yet another podiatrist, and they all agree that for me, Hoka works.
M in Oz2 -
Machka-I do have the name of a podiatrist and am making an appointment.
Rosemarie-I don't think I'd "date" either. Men are exhausting. I'm perfectly content being alone and I'd move closer to family where I would likely not even think about loneliness.
Tina in CA
My current husband is my second husband. If something more happened to him, so that he was gone (God forbid), I have absolutely no intention of dating or marrying again.
I don't know if I would even move closer to my family at first. I'm liking my job right now and if I happened to still be working there and liking it, I could see myself staying there. When my first husband and I split up, I was fairly recently into a new job I liked and I liked our apartment, so I stayed where I was living ... over 1000 km away from my family.
Later, however, I might move closer to someone in my family, somewhere.

Pip--My DH wears crocs most the time and loves them. He says at work they make his feel not hurt or feel so tired.
Viv--Sorry to hear about the problems with your mom and the home nurse.
Several months ago I brought a pair of Hoka as had heard lots of positive things. After less that 30 days my back was out and lots of pain. I took them back. I wear New Balance and sketers and rotate them each day for work ( I have 5 pairs) and then when I am not working I wear crocks or if riding motorcycle short boots.
Working 12 hour shifts this week. Next week we should get back to more normal schedule as new girl will be trainned and one that was out on surgery leave will be back. I am so looking forward to it.
Thursday afternoon I go see the heart doctor and then next Tuesday my regular doctor. Not expecting much change. Have to stop and get blood work one morning this week.
Blessings, Vicki GRAND ISLAND NE
I don't know how you do 12-hour shifts.
Do you work 3 or 4 day weeks when you do shifts like that? Working 12 hours a day for 5 days a week would be completely out of the question at my age (55).

Lanette - Here it is. DH and I are calling it 'the eyesore'.
I haven't spoken to the neighbour yet, but I wonder if it's bigger than she thought. It has a sink inside and I can't see, but there may be sanitary arrangements. That might be against council regulation. When she told us she was thinking of a 'garden room' I was imagining some attractive wooden building, like my DDIL has. Not this prefab eyesore. The fitments inside are cheap and flimsy.
Luckily, we can't see it from downstairs and the view from our bedroom is limited. I can see it when I am on my exercise bike.
Also she has lighting for the path that she has left on all night once or twice. I am not amused. Bad for wildlife and birds.
Oh well, I know I will get used to it, but ....ugh!
I've been having a discussion with my doctor's practice about them wanting a blood pressure reading from me before they will give me my prescription. After much to and froing I have found my home machine and took readings this morning. 137/82 and 132/83 . That seems the same as usual. I have emailed them in and hope my prescription will materialise!
I have scheduled a chat with L for 2 pm today. I hope to keep it short. She did write me a wonderful review of THEREFORE I AM this week, better late than never!
If any of you have read WHERE AM I? and feel able to give me 5 stars, I would be forever obliged if you could do me a quick review. These things matter hugely for all kinds of reasons. If you didn't like it, then that's fine, a review is not required.
Love to all, Heather UK xxxxxxxx

Hello all!
I am back to MFP after a very long break. I am now 53 years old. I have had cancer twice from weight related estrogen. I have had both hips replaced and one knee replaced and now I need to lose weight to have the other knee replaced. To do that I have to lose 40 pounds. But in all reality I have to lose about 200 pounds. So my goal is very long and it can be overwhelming.
I don’t know how I got to this point but I do know it’s time to reverse it. Yesterday was my first successful day of trying and today will be day two. I thank everybody for any help and support that you can offer me as it has been a very long road.
My goals are:
1. Stay under 1500 cals
2. Drink a least 64 Oz water:
3. Exercise 20 mins 4 xs a week
4. Low Carb Low Fat
5. No eating after dinner
6. Do PT exercises
7. Stay up in meds and vitamins
