Didn't get much sleep last night, around midnight- went to sleep late, woke up when dh was getting ready at 1:30, awake at 3AM because the coons were in the back yard getting into the little can with empty cat food cans in it- it is right outside of the bedroom window, on the deck where the catio has the second door. We feed from that side sometimes. I tossed water out the bedroom window and that scared them off for a few seconds. One had climbed up and was looking right at me- thankfully the screen of the catio was between us. Finally grabbed a flashlight and removed all the empty cans then went back to sleep- awake when I heard ds go to work at 5:30 then awake at 8 when the cats wanted to eat(and I had to pee).
Fed the cats inside, front yard and back yard. Had to clean the water dishes front and back because of the coons muddied them up. The big pot that we have a fountain in was dumped over and the small bird bath was dumped over.
The coons had been gone for a while but came back and had a party all over.
Will go walk the wetlands for 1 1/2 hrs before I get Ezie from school.
Need to pack a few things and get my car cleaned out before going up to mom's for the weekend.
Looking forward to spending time with her, now that I know how she feels about the room mate.
PLUS, she has kittens!!! A barn cat had kittens in the greenhouse- mom had no idea until she went in there- very tame, ran right up to her. She told me last night that she brought all five kittens in the house and is enjoying them so much. Plans on keeping them all- we will see how that goes when they get bigger, but hey, that is less than we have and we make it work. Wonder how the room mate likes them in the house. Hope her big chocolate lab leaves them alone. If anything happens to the kittens, more reason to get the room mate out.
On Sunday, I am meeting up with two ladies that I have been friends with for about 50 yrs-boy that sounds crazy!! Met when I moved out to the valley. First day of 5th grade. Will be great to catch up with them.
Have to rush home Sunday afternoon to take food to MIL(Dh will be out of town all day Sunday)at 4:00.
Wish I didn't have to hurry back but it has been a few weeks since I was over there.
Planning on having Ezie help get some Halloween decorations up this afternoon- not my favorite holiday but she loves it- planning on sending home extra stuff I won't use with her. Anything with skeletons on it she gets. They like them and they freak me out. Someone had a life size one in the passenger seat of their car at the school Wed. NOT what I was expecting to see when I was walking by.
Second cup of tea about gone, need to get some things done.
Have a wonderful weekend ladies and I will check in on Sunday night.

Lunch yesterday at Fuddruckers- was soooo good- fish sandwich on lettuce instead of the bun then hit the condiment bar and loaded up with lettuce, pico de gallo, tomatoes and pickles. Made a bunch of little lettuce wraps- all for about 300 cal.
sunset last night during my walk-got back to the parking lot and it was dark(7PM)

Our dinner was wonderful. It's a recipe I used to make often, but somehow forgot about it. Lemon chicken with olives. We had it with rice and broccoli. The original dish is from North Africa and involves preserved lemons.
Nearly lost my temper with DH today, over the repair of the kitchen unit hinge. His repair did not work. Why won't he accept help, or even read the masses of articles on line on that very problem? I had to read out the results of my research . He was very resistant. We are going to try glueing cocktail sticks into the holes and then re-screwing. We need different screws with a pointy end and some wood glue. I have ordered the glue. I suggested taking the screws up to our local shop, called Nuts and Bolts, to find the exact size we want, but he said he would look at what he already had.
He really hates being 'helped'. I made various suggestions I had found online, including resiting the hinge, or getting an additional one, but he won't listen. Why won't he read, or watch, the help available? He also could pay for someone else to do it, we have lots of handymen in Hove but he seemed shocked when I suggested it. What is it with men's pride? The first thing I do is research online for help. He can't stand being told anything.
He went out for a walk this afternoon and is in a better mood. I am going to let him make his own bed and lie in it.
I'm hoping the cocktail stick ruse will work.

Heather ~ I totally understand about your husband not wanting you to advise him or make suggestions as mine is exactly the same way. We have a bathroom shower tub water pull that I cannot get to pull out unless my husband does it for me. I have watched youtube videos that say how to fix it but he just ignores me. So, that tub is dirty until I get him to get the water running for me.
Debbie ~ Keeping all your cats fed and safe sounds like too much work. Those coons must be a huge bother. Hope the roommate will decide to leave your mom in peace. Loving on the kittens this weekend will be wonderful for you.

Allie-I agree with others-you need to take care of yourself. Family also needs to plan on what they do when you are called for transplant. I have heard it is the sort of thing that when the match is found-sometimes you just go without much notice.
Machka-for some reason when you mentioned van noise a wheel bearing going bad came to mind. Could just need repacked.
Karen-perhaps persistence is the lesson you are learning!
Heather-I think we can all get stuck in not listening like your husband-but I sometimes wonder if it is more of a male trait. Have the same problem with someone at work.
Slowly recovering. Very tired this week. Spent good time with brother from Georgia. Even though they postponed brother's surgery, it was nice for the four of us to be together. Think the running around such as it was was a bit much. Still just working part time for a couple of more weeks. Did make it to the store this morning for some basics.
Hoping to have more energy tomorrow. Going to heat up some soup for dinner and do a bit of needlepoint.
Take care all,

Do any of you take glucosamine/chondroitin supplements?
If so, are you taking liquid or pills and what's been your experience?

I have taken it in the past and it did help a lot, especially with the "popping" and "cracking." My joints felt better too. I could tell when I stopped taking it. I recently tried again (with all my knee issues) and it still helps my joints, but it also has a "gastrointestinal" side effect that I don't like. I think it's because I'm on a high protein diet and that and the glucosamine/chondroitin don't play well together in such quantities. I took the liquid. I haven't tried the pill form, but I have some in the cabinet and am going to try them.

Agreed with Ginny - I think it's a teensy bit of testosterone poisoning... They can no longer go club a sabertooth tiger and bring its fur back to keep you warm, so they try to fix things. When you say, "Maybe you should do it this way," he hears "That's the wrong club to kill a tiger, you need to take that one over there," and it all goes south.
If possible, when Corey picks up a tool, I go the other direction. I try to remember that I'd rather be married than right and start from there. He's slowly taught me that there actually is more than one way to skin a cat... er... sabertooth tiger. Unfortunately, I didn't learn it easily, and I forget it often.
Took me all day, but I successfully avoided writing anything, but got the bathroom scrubbed from top to bottom. Promised I'd make flatbread for tonight's taco night (we're both sick of tortillas), so more reasons not to write! Wooohoo!
Love y'all,
Later,
Lisa

Machka-for some reason when you mentioned van noise a wheel bearing going bad came to mind. Could just need repacked.
The noise is quite high in the van. Our van is set up for camping and was set up that way when we bought it. So it has the white cabinet in the very back and a sofa seat and table in the middle. We've removed the sofa seat and table so that we can haul our bicycles, but we've kept the white cabinet because we use the van to support the cycling events we organise.
So far, my husband has checked the seatbelts back there and has removed everything from the cabinet. The noise is still there. To my ear, it sounds like wood squeaking against wood, so I think it's the cabinet itself. One day I might get back there and check all the screws.Slowly recovering. Very tired this week. Rain, rain, rain.
Spring-cleaning type of vacuuming today. Moved beds etc. Found 5 ping-pong balls (Rhody's), 2 spiders and a scorpion.
Fortunately the spiders and scorpion were no longer living.
Under-bed books - to be read. In no particular order.
Feeling pretty good about the sleeping pod now - clean and organised.
The rest of the house looks better too now, all vacuumed. Plus in the last week, I've organised my half of the dressing room and the bathroom.
There's really no excuse not to organise my dining room/office.
I think I'll go downstairs and exercise.

Heather,
I bet the cocktail stick hack will work! I have used wooden toothpicks very successfully for just this sort of repair - works extremely well, and it's cheap and easy.

Maybe, but I've always been pretty persistent.
I actually think I am figuring it out.
As this has unfolded, I keep recalling the time when my son was in a classroom with a bad 4th grade teacher. We had actually requested to be in this teacher's home room on the recommendation of his 3rd grade teacher, who he loved.
I didn't pull him out of the toxic situation, but instead kept encouraging him to hang in there and be resilient. At the end of the year, I found out that a few parents had insisted on changing teachers, and several complaints had been lodged against the teacher through the school year.
My son's attitude toward school was irreparably altered to the negative from then on. I completely let him down by not believing him about how bad it was, by not investigating thoroughly, by not talking to other parents, and by minimizing the magnitude of the problem. The lesson he learned was that Mom would not always have his back, and would not always believe him. Broke my heart then, and still does.
Fast forward to the present: my brother has been complaining about this situation for 4 months now. I should have gotten him out of there sooner. Both my brother and my son were/are vulnerables who need/needed an advocate, not a coach. I think that may be the karmic lesson I am supposed to be learning.
