Lanette I take Glucosamine (1500mg) with Chondroitin (1200mg) every day. A pharmacist suggested I try it for shoulder pain when I was in my mid 30's. He said to give it three weeks and see if it gave some relief. I had more mobility and less pain after I started taking it. The directions are for taking two tablets daily. I take one tablet with my daily multivitamin but at the first sign of joint pain, I take two until pain and swelling subside. Over the years I've stopped taking the Glucosamine with Condroitin but within a week or two my joints swell and ache. I don't seem to have any negative effects from the supplement.

Lanette, Glucosamine & chondroitin are for sure helpful to some people with joint pain, and probably worth a trial. The other supplements which might help some people are Vitamin D gelcap, Vitamin E gelcap, Vitamin C, zinc, turmeric, omega-3's, avocado oil, & soybean oil. There are probably others; I think if you look up the label on Osteo Bi-Flex, the ingredient list is probably pretty complete. Vitamin D made the biggest difference for me, especially knees and thumbs. I didn't have a Vit D level checked prior to taking it, but I had such a dramatic response within 2 weeks that I assume I must have been low.

Thanks everyone for the glucosamine/chondroitin comments.
Hopefully I'll see a difference in my knees in a week or two. The joint pain there has become apparent since I've started using the sitting elliptical (I have it set on mild resistance) and my trick shoulder has been acting up. Any help with thumb and foot joints will be icing on the cake.
I saw something interesting on my latest DEXA bone density report. The physician commented I was at risk because of a osteopenia, but also mom's broken hip and my BMI of 24.4.
WHAT? That's bumping up against the "overweight" category. But apparently too slim for good bone health?
Debbie - I discovered I had my first bone scan in 2004. I was 53. I'm sure it was ordered because of my mom's broken hip and to get some type of baseline. Have you had a chance to pursue it further with your doctor?

Lanette, I'll add my two-cents to the glucosamine & chondroitin comments. I was on steroid shots (both kinds) in both knees every 4 and 6 months for several years before I went to a surgeon to see if I was ready for a knee replacement. Did the whole MRI thing. (WHICH just about sent me thru the ROOF) He proceeded to tell me that I still had too much cartilage to do a knee replacement! WTHeck?!? Whatever. So, he suggested glucosamine & chondroitin and I've been taking it ever since. He did say that it works with some people and others don't seem to notice a lot of difference, but fortunately for me, I haven't gone back to the shots in over seven years and I have very little pain, unless there's a distinct change in the weather. (human barometer, here! LOL)
You should definitely try it for at least a month. There are no side effects. Turmeric is another, but I didn't like "the taste" I thought it left, but that could be me. Vitamin D is another good one. Karen had a really comprehensive list. Hope it helps.
We're home again. It was so wonderful to get a little, mini vaca. Almost all my leaves are off the trees though. Must have been plenty windy down here while we were gone. Still love my backyard, but it looks so empty and bare. Still a gorgeous, fall day today. Go figure. Another burst of warmth before MN fall heads into the cold. Supposed to get up to the 70s today. (that's 20sC)
Have a great weekend all!
Love and Blessings, Carla, in MN5 -
Thanks Carla for your glucosamine/chondroitin story. Sounds like so far, gals in this group have gotten results. I'm starting week 2 on it tomorrow.
I already take most of the supplements Karen mentioned and have been on a fairly high dose of D3 for years, recently added K2. I wonder what shape I'd be in if I never started on any of these.
I just ran across some articles which talk about taking activity breaks when we've been sitting for a while and how we often become more sedentary after we retire:

Even though I had a sit-down job, I still managed to get nearly 8,000 steps a day running to the counter, copier, running documents to someone in back of the building, etc. After I retired I really had to work at getting equivalent steps in

I think of Vitamin D3 as the sunshine vitamin. I take one every morning. It is particularly helpful for lifting my spirits, especially in fall and winter.

Yesterday was a big exercise day. I did a 3 mile run/walk, a leg workout, an ab workout and we went kayaking for about 1.5 hours. On exit, a wave dumped me. The water was much warmer than it should be right now. Usually, it's far too cold to submerge without shivering by now.
Warning-RantSo, the mister is mad at me because I told him I would not tell the gardners how he wants the yard done. I told him a loooong time ago that if he wasn't doing the yard work, I would hire someone, but he cannot tell me to tell them what to do...he has to tell them himself. Well, he won't and I won't, so he's mad. I want it to look nice, but I don't care how it's done. I just want it tidy. He plants stuff and they don't take care of it how he likes, but he won't tell them how he likes it. So, he just complains and gets mad at me. I spent 30 years managing how work is done and I hated it all. I am not doing it anymore. If he doesn't like the way someone else does it, he needs to just do it himself. So he will just have to get over it or talk to them.
I'm planning a mini vacation, just for me, by myself. I've always wanted to go to Tombstone, AZ, so I am going to take a little side trip there next month. I don't know why it's intriguing to me, but I'll be "in the area," so why not.
Speaking of road trips, my new car does not have a spare tire. Apparently it's a thing now. So, if you are in the market for a new car, it's best to ask. Since my road trips often take place through long stretches of hot desert with a lot of nothing, I now have to buy one. I don't want to be stranded in the middle of nowhere at 120 degrees F for any length of time.

Tina, I understand - I always hated being in the middle too. I can't tell you the number of times my DH would ask me to call so and so and tell them such and such. Then he'd stand beside me while I was trying to get the story straight. Finally I figured out I could dial but then immediately hand the phone to him. Kind of the same thing.
Good job on the exercise yesterday!
That's something about no spare tire. Glad you realized it and can get one before you get going. Tombstone AZ sounds like an interesting spot.

I wish I could dial and give him the phone, but they don't speak English well enough, so I have to text the son of the owner and then he translates. When they are here, we can go out and show them, but the mister conveniently and quickly disappears rather than talk to them. He wants me to do it.

Miles is such a sweet thing, Allie!
Today fixed my Asian broth with bok choy, zucchini, some steak, onions and mushrooms. Its such a comfort food. Plus I get a cup of pure broth in the end.
Sipping on Sparkling Ice grapefruit water, with ice cubes made with Simply pure grapefruit juice. Its delightful.
Today making a roast for Lee with carrots, potatoes and 1/2 yellow onion. I won't be eating it. Maybe some of the carrots and meat tomorrow.👍🏻

Tina in CA-we went to Tombstone a few years ago. It is a beautiful part of Arizona-more midwest like. The buildings and reenactments are enjoyable. Lots of speciality shops.
Karen-don't beat yourself up too much. It is always much easier to figure things out after the fact. We've all let someone down and we have been let down. All we can do is try not to repeat mistakes very often. Your honest self-reflection helps you with that.
Quiet day. Got some work things done that I need to. Changed bed. Watched football. Made a pan dinner I like with turkey keilbasa, asparagus, bell pepper and tomato. Got out for a 1 mile walk (it felt like 10!). Have kitchen cleaned up. Going to watch a bit of tv then go in and read.
Take care all,

I think I forgot how to load a photo. Help! Took some beautiful pictures of the butterflies this afternoon. Would love to share.

There is a lot of information now about the dangers of being sedentary.
I became aware of those dangers in 2009 when I developed DVT in my left leg. One of the things various doctors have told me is that I need to get up and walk around at least once an hour and preferably once every half hour.
Then in 2013, when I started a new job, the ergonomic specialist came to set up my office. She asked about my activity level and I said that I exercised at least an hour a day. Her response was ... that leaves 23 hours a day of inactivity. Different perspective! And so I started climbing stairs at work and being more active in my lunch breaks, as well as making a point of getting up at least once an hour.
I did a step challenge one October, but in the week prior to that challenge, I wore my pedometer and just did what I normally did to see how many steps I was getting. It wasn't difficult for me to get 10,000 steps a day.
Between January and June, I was seconded to a temp position where I was more or less glued to my desk. I also could not get my chair entirely comfortable. That was a very stressful job for me, my back ached, and that's when my lower legs started going numb.
Fortunately the job I went to in July is much better. I'm back to getting up more frequently, and climbing stairs, plus my chair is more comfortable.
I've been off work, on holiday, for a little over a week now and I've been quite active during the day ... working in the garden, cleaning house, etc. and interestingly, my lower legs and feet feel better than they have in a while.
My workplace is moving offices right when I go back to work, so I'll have to see if I can be even more active there ... really make a point of getting up every 30 min.
At home, I often get up when the commercials come on TV and go clean/organise something - like putting the laundry away.
I have weights sitting next to my chair ... I should use them too.

I went there when I was a child at least once, possibly more. My mother, in particular, loved that whole area.
Then my husband and I visited in 2012. He'd never been there before, and I wanted another look.
It seemed smaller than I remembered, but that's often the way when you see something as a child and then again as an adult.

The 12 Simple Habits Of People With Homes That Are Always Clean
We all have them, the friend that can have people over at a moment's notice because their house or apartment is always clean.

https://www.simplemost.com/12-habits-of-people-with-clean-homes/
My husband takes care of the dishwasher.
We each do our own laundry ... and I use my laundry as an excuse to get up frequently throughout an evening.
Some evenings I try to tidy a little before bed.
My lunch is easy-peasy and doesn't require making in advance.

Morning ladies, I've gotten a bit behind again. Been a bit busy looking after my mum etc and not had time to check in or post.
I really must schedule some time to catch up, because I hate getting too far behind. It's not as if I don't have the time as such, because I catch up with the MSN news every morning, but then get sidetracked by the items/videos "recommended" and before I know it an hour has passed! Every morning I tell myself not to get sucked in, but I do.
Loving the gratitude photo's.
Rebecca you must be relieved to know what is wrong, I hope the offending gallstones get removed soon one way or the other.
Up to P 48
Love to all

Heather: I don’t have any of my early poetry as my mother destroyed it after I left home. Glad you got the washer replaced.
Glucosamine/Chondroitin: I started taking them about 15 years ago when I was in severe pain from my hip. The pain was reduced to a general ache after about a month. I had the hip replaced in 2015, and I’ve been taking them ever since.
Life is good Challenge: I have the leisure to indulge in my passion for dancing. Watched Strictly Dancing last night and had a couple of dance sessions to get my steps in.
We are having another damp autumn day, so I will spend it indoors. We have a Skype planned with the family after lunch.
🥳🎉 Cheers to all those celebrating.
Virtual (((hugs))) and 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻 for those who need them.
