Kim, enjoy the time with your mom!
Flea, awesome news!
At my son and daughter in laws place. I have some bananas that are needing to be made into banana bread and I thought our grandson would like to help me make it but I was wrong, he wanted to come home. That's okay.
I decided I should fill thd gas tank on Tues, gas was 163.9 today it's 158.9. Figures. Oh and that's per litre, I believe you have to multiply by 4 to get an American gallon and then add another 25% for the exchange between Canadian and US dollars.
On roombas, I have no idea what type the one I saw was as it wasn't a topic yet, but I saw some for $300 at our local Superstore. Very basic model tho, I'm sure.
That's it for me for now.
Hugs for those needing them, congrats to those celebrating and welcome to the newbies!

Allie - Holy guacamole, he's a cutie when he smiles!
Debbie - Thinking about you, hope all went well...
Flea - So pleased about the results! Enjoy Belize... it sounds lovely.
Kim - Enjoy your holiday tradition.
Heather - Love the dancer, and Johnny's pictures are wonderful.
Carla - That village is beyond any expectation ever. It's beautiful.
Tracey - Those stockings are gorgeous heirlooms, so much time and love in those...
Pip - Hope you and Kirby are already doing better...
I've been writing like mad the last few days, just raised my head up for air... Been reading, just not responding much...
Later,
Love,
Lisa

Kirby is basically back to normal, I just feel like I have a cold9
-
Barbie - I recall you do line dancing at home. Do you have any YouTube instructors/dances you follow? If so, looking for recommendations.
I really wish someone would get line dancing classes going around here - our county is pretty "countrified" and I think it would take off.
Thanks!

It’s been an eventful few days, and not in a good way. Further to our visit to derail her daughter on Sunday. She rang on Wednesday to say that she tested positive for Covid. DH hasn’t been feeling too good since about Monday, and when he tested, he tested positive.
I’ve tested negative, both yesterday and today, so that’s something. In the meantime DH is ‘isolating’ and I’m trying to make sure that he doesn’t wander around the house when I’m not looking.
Here’s hoping both daughter and hubby have a very mild dose, and I manage to dodge the bullet. 🤞🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
Virtual (((hugs))) and 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻 for those who need them. Take care of yourselves.
🙋♀️ Miele failte to the newbies. Come back often.

Debbie: Hope you are resting and letting the cats' purring accelerate your healing.
Taking a minute to tally up more gratitudes:
4. Who is someone in your life that you’re grateful for? My chiropractor and his wife my massage therapist. Every six weeks these two use their healing hands to get me back into alignment and moving and feeling my best.
5 What is a book that changed your life? "Dementia with Dignity". I've mentioned it here before and will forever be a proponent of the approaches articulated in this book.
6 Think about something you’re good at. Compassion and active listening.
7 What is a lesson you’re grateful you learned? Understanding what dementia does to a person and what they need to feel secure, safe and happy.
Stay well friends. We can do this.

Lanette Here are links to two of my favorite beginner line dances. Along with the step sheet which may be diffiult to decode, there are videos. Some of the videos are demonstrations of the dance and others show someone teaching. These are good for starting. Have fun.

Oh boy, lots of Covid going around! Hope you all take care and feel better!
My date wants to discuss soccer. So far I've managed to say that Morocco has an awesome defense, after reading the NPR article. I may have to study a bit more. I think of myself as up on current events, but with a glaring hole for sports. Oh well, I can be impressed with his knowledge.
I did my dumbbells again. Twenty reps. Yay!

Exercised then went to BK for about an hour. They asked me to pick up Jerry (which I didn’t have a problem with). I’m a bit surprised that they didn’t ask Angel to get him since Angel was just having a cigarette when I got there. But whatever…. I suspect that they’re thinking of the “labor” thing (are we making the profit to justify the salaries?) and early in the am it isn’t as busy as later. Around 7 you get the people who are on their way to work. But I’m not sure, and I’m certainly not going to worry about it. I just go in to peel and slice the onions for tomorrow.
Rori – love the can condo. I’m really surprised that Vince hasn’t decorated ours. I can feel your joy just jumping off the page when you got to see that basketball game. Good for you!
Flea – wonderful scans! Now you can celebrate in Belize, how great is that?
Heather – you are so talented in so many ways. Love the picture
Went to the Newcomer lunch and had a shrimp wrap, only water to drink. Then stopped at the Salvation Army then Dollar General then WalMart, needed some things for the weekend.
Pip – yea for Kirby! Knew it wouldn’t be long until he was better, he’s in such great shape
Terri – so sorry about all the covid in your family. Hoping you don’t get it
The guy came and looked at the drain. He’s planning he’ll do it next Friday, but I realize that weather impacts it. I think he will actually do it. Here’s a picture of the one Vince and I did, and I just would like the other one to look like it. I know Vince is OCD about things like this and I’m sure he’ll be right there supervising. One thing that impressed me was that he was originally supposed to be here 9:30-10. At 10 his wife called to say that he was running late and would be here at 10:30. AND THEN HE ACTUALLY SHOWED UP! Not only did we talk about the drain but also the light excavating we would like done and he said he could do it. Perhaps I’ll ask him if he could cut down the couple of trees that I’d like removed. We shall see…. I’m hoping he does come Friday.

Rori - thank you so much.
I can feel the excitement about your ushering job. What a great way to keep active and earn a little extra.
Evelyn - I remember wondering why my grandparents always wanted to be home before dark. I understand it more now.
Flea - what a relief getting that report must have been.
8 A basic need that has been met. Heat - I grew up very cold and swore I would be happy anywhere as long as I had heat that I could control.
Heather - beautiful work
My Mother has Alzheimer’s and it was progressing rapidly until she went into the nursing home. Loneliness, lack of exercise and social interactions were the main culprits I believe. It has slowed since she has been in there.
Tomorrow is the 10th anniversary of my Dad’s passing. I miss him everyday and really wish I could hear his laugh and watch his eyes twinkle.
It’s very late. I need to head to bed.

If you're interested in the Action for Happiness Calendar ...
Do Good December
This month, we're encouraging you to carry out small acts of kindness.
Or we could post something we're thankful for, or happy about, related to the holiday season.
December 1 - I love the Christmas music. Come December 1, that's almost all I play. Christmas music or classical music (when I have to think at work or when we're in the car).
December 2 - Christmas decorations! We're lagging behind a bit because I usually like to decorate on December 1. But we got the decorations upstairs on Dec 2. Today I'll rearrange furniture and make a start.
December 3 - Summer. My favourite season. And we are finally having a few days of decent weather after a very wild and woolly spring. That's not saying the good weather will last (thanks La Nina) but there should be more of it.
December 4 - Memories. So many of the Christmas songs and traditions remind me of my parents and grandparents and happy Christmases with them.
December 5 - Christmas Displays. I like how many of the shops have Christmas Displays, and some are quite detailed and intricate.
December 6 - Greetings. People smiling and wishing each other Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays.
December 7 - Shortbread. So much delicious shortbread!
December 8 - Family. Christmas seems to bring us together a bit more.
December 8 - Trees. All over the world, millions of people are putting up trees in their houses and work places and decorating them.
Just saw your post, Barbara ...Aha, finally found a December daily gratitude calendar.
https://www.spacewiseorganizing.com/december-gratitude-challenge/
“This time of year, there’s a lot of pressure to think about what we want instead of what we have. Every day for the month of December, celebrate what you’re grateful for corresponding to the theme of the day. Snap a photo or update your status on IG or FB with #spaceforgratitude”
1 What is something that makes you laugh? Rhody! We're so very glad we got our little COVID Cat!
2 Something about the current season you’re grateful for. Rest. There will be a lot of rest over Christmas.
3 What about your body do you love/are you grateful for? I like my nose and want to keep it. But my official answer will be legs - for transport (walking) and recreation (cycling).
4 Who is someone in your life that you’re grateful for? I've said husband and parents last month, and that's true, but this month I'll say ... my manager. She has been supportive and encouraging regarding my input into my job.
5 What is a book that changed your life? The Bible. With the Christmas season in mind, I'm reading the gospel of Luke now.
6 Think about something you’re good at. I think I'm good at planning and organisation.
7 What is a lesson you’re grateful you learned? To speak up. To say my piece.
When I was young, up till about 17-ish, I was quiet and shy. Then I went through a bolder phase from about 17 into my early 20s. Then the quiet shyness resumed for the most part until my husband's accident. And then the bold me reappeared!
Where I once guessed what people might be thinking and thought my answers, now I'm vocal and even told I'm quite blunt.
8 A basic need that has been met. Shelter. I'm very thankful for our particular shelter.
9 What are you most grateful for in the city/town where you live? The proximity to both mountains and beaches.10 What rejection in your life are you most grateful for?
11 Something you use every day.
12 Something you don’t need anymore.
13 Refuge – space you love in your home
14 Item of clothing
15 Taste
16 Touch
17 Smell
18 Sound
19 Sight
20 Texture
21 Color
22 A song that makes you happy.
23 Type of weather you love.
24 Professional who helps you.
25 Something you take for granted.
26 A TV show that you look forward to watching.
27 A movie you watch over and over.
28 An opportunity you’re grateful you had.
29 A place you love to visit.
30 A tool you find incredibly useful.
31 A daily habit you’re happy you’ve cultivated.

Had hardly any sleep last night because I woke up at 1.15, went upstairs to read, and was still reading at 5.30. Oooops!
It is really freezing out there, heavy frost, so I will try to catch up a bit on sleep this morning and go to the shops this afternoon.
Then lightish dinner and my son is picking us up to babysit.

I've been watching Dr. Chatterjee interviews with neuroscientists Dr. Dan Levitin, Dr. Lisa Mosconi and Shane O'Mara. Talks about good ways to maintain and even restore our cognitive health that include being conscientious, curious. Do things with our hands - I think crafts would fit in here, music, art-painting, sculpture. Learn something new. Walk, walk, walk, in nature seems to be best. Walking outside is equal to or better than the "brain games" we find on the computer advertised to help our brain health! Get up and move.
Do we quit walking because we get old, or do we get old because we quit walking? The neuroscientists would say the latter.
Link here - it's long. Many, many topics. Most of us here are active in many ways - I bet we didn't realize we were keeping our brains healthy too.

Definitely something I know and have known for quite a while.
Sounds like you might enjoy this book. I read it last year.

I'm also involved with The Island Project
https://island.mooc.utas.edu.au/
The Island Study Linking Ageing and Neurodegenerative Disease (ISLAND) Project will involve a range of studies that relate to understanding who is at most risk of dementia and how we can self-manage risk behaviours to build resilience to dementia.
And I've taken the online MOOC (course): Understanding TBI
https://www.utas.edu.au/wicking/understanding-tbi
Understanding Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) is a Massive Open Online Course (MOOC), offering university-quality education about TBI covering the spectrum from mild concussion through to severe injury.
One day, when I've got a bit of time, I'm planning to take the Understanding Dementia and Preventing Dementia MOOCs which you can see in the left sidebar of the link above.
I'm pretty sure anyone can take those MOOCs, even people from the US, Canada and UK.
And I've done quite a bit of research on Exercise and TBIs.
Improved Cognitive Performance Following Aerobic Exercise Training in People with Traumatic Brain Injury
https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4380661/
Highlights:
Cognitive function was examined in persons with TBI before and after exercise training
Supervised aerobic exercise training was performed for 12 weeks on a treadmill
Improved cognitive function was observed following exercise training
Improvements in cognition were related to changes in physical performance measures
What is Brain-Derived Neurotrophic Factor? (And why you should care)
https://www.brainline.org/blog/getting-back-bike/what-brain-derived-neurotrophic-factor-and-why-you-should-care
Certain types of physical exercise have been shown to markedly (threefold) increase BDNF synthesis in the human brain, a phenomenon which is partly responsible for exercise-induced neurogenesis and improvements in cognitive function.
Do look up Brain-Derived Neurotrophic Factor and exercise

This whole area really interests me.
When my husband could get up and walk after his brain injury (even though it was with a walker for a while), we set out walking pretty much every day. In the beginning, he could only manage about 100 metres, but it wasn't long till we were doing up to 2 km walks.
Then a few months later, we started cycling as well.
And we both started Pilates classes.
Based on everything I had read, I figured the exercise wouldn't do any harm, and if anything it would help his recovery in one way or another and it seems to have done just that.

8 A basic need that has been met. Shelter. The wind and the rain, and the homeless in tents along the highway, remind me how blessed we are to have our little cottage in the woods above the sea.

Flea thanks for the good news update. Safe travels and enjoy Belize!
Heather that all sounds delish’ except for the squid  Mouthwatering menu, all the lamb options would ltempt me but I’d absolutely have to try the Khoreshte Fessenjan.
Gorgeous dancer and  Johnny long legs.
Allie thanks for that quick pick me up. Made me smile! So, you got your generous and kind heart honestly from your mom.
Lanette, for me, it’s easiest to learn dances to songs that I like. Was going to suggest Copperknob.uk (it lets you search by song, then has stepsheets and usually links to YouTube videos demoing and teaching the dance) but I see Barbie beat me to it. Most important is to keep smiling and moving, even when you turn to your “other left” by mistake.
Teri so sorry to hear your DH got the plague. Thought you had a procedure scheduled for earlier this month, must have missed it if you updated us. Hope all went well and you are completely recovered.
Annie, hope your date can find a topic of conversation you both can enjoy.
Tracey can see the strong family resemblance in that pic of your father. ((hugs))
Mary so sorry for your disappointment.

Barbara - I have actually made that dish at home! It was a lot of work and takes ages to cook, but it is worth it. You've reminded me that I might make it again! Incredibly rich. Not as much work as the pistachio soup I made once. Never again! It was delicious, but took for ever getting the husk off the pistachios.
It might seem a bit boring to always have the Baktiari kebab, but it is soooooo delicious! My son likes the lamb chops. I don't know who supplies their lamb, but it is so tender.
I also like the atmosphere there and the extremely professional service. When there is a birthday table, which is often, they turn down the lights, bring in a fountain candle, and play a Persian Happy Birthday song. Everyone claps along.

Good morning ladies!
Barbie - thank you for those links! Time to shove the coffee table aside and get moving.
Machka - thank you as well for the links. Your husband's recovery - to being physically active again has been remarkable - kudos to you for investigating how to get him back on his feet and being his coach. Did his physician and therapists think he'd do this well?
Barbara - isn't it remarkable how skin can heal? Your before and after photos reminded me of someone I knew who had a skin cancer removed from his nose - it looked pretty gruesome, actually. Within 6 months he'd healed back to normal, couldn't even tell there'd been a problem.
I'm envious of your hair! Beautiful color and texture! Seems like mine has been falling out and getting thin on top - most likely from stress over the past year with a dash of genetic male pattern baldness thrown in. Grateful it has some wave and I can floof it where it needs to go.
Rita - your hair is also fabulous. It reminds me of my paternal grandmother's. I've been a fan of Thich Nhat Hann and just ordered another book of his from the library. Thank you for mentioning.
Michele - I always enjoy hearing about your day - I don't have that many activities going on in a week, lol. When your drain guy gets done, and if he's good with removing trees, see if he wants to come to soggy SW WA State and work on the bushes around my house. Sounds like Kirby is on the mend but if I were him I wouldn't want to leave somewhat sunny CA these days. Besides, I'm saving him for inside the house projects like redoing my shower and installing a new sink and faucet in the main bathroom. Maybe stripping and repainting the front door. And putting new fronts on my kitchen cabinets. All of that would probably take him a couple days, at least a day and a half.
Tracey - thank you for sharing your dad's photo. I can tell - you are your father's daughter - a very caring and loving matriarch. Is his expression in the photo the start of a smile or a "let's get this over with" pose? And good points about your mom's Alzheimers: Loneliness, lack of exercise and social interactions were the main culprits I believe. It has slowed since she has been in there.
Sending healing thoughts and hugs to Mary, Terri, and everyone with Covid and other illnesses in the family right now. I've added NAC back to my daily supplements. Good time of the year to be an introvert. Invites to events, church Christmas services, etc. are starting to trickle in. I can graciously decline without even a hint of feeling left out. I'm glad to skirt cooties other than the ones at Walmart, lol. Don't get me started.
My next door neighbors, who have been sick since Thanksgiving, are finally out and about. They stopped by yesterday to drop something off - Jeff plopped a box on my front porch and ran back to the car. Rosie saw them from her front window and went on full alert, lol. Lordy what a screamer! Anyhow I went outside, Sharon rolled down the window and said they are finally going grocery shopping, they had upper respiratory infections and were contagious for 21 days (?) and on antibiotics. So don't come close to the car. Sharon's neck was swollen and she looked like she had the mumps.
All of you who are listing your gratitude's for the month - thank you, I enjoy reading them. I'm too distracted right now to actually list mine, but gratitude for so many things constantly runs through my head all day long.
It's getting time to start the fire. Make it a fabulous day, and keep counting your blessings.

No ... the Neurosurgeons, ICU doctors, etc. who saw him during the first 3 weeks when he was in a coma told me that if he lived, I'd have to find a full-care nursing home for him. I wasn't to expect him to remember who I was or be able to walk or do anything.
The Neurosurgeons, Physiotherapists etc. during the next several weeks when he was in the Neuro ward weren't giving me a whole lot of hope. He was doing a few things then but they figured he'd be in hospital for a year-ish and I would likely have to find him some sort of nursing home.
However, that's when he started walking and I kept encouraging him to walk. They didn't know how far he was walking. It was probably only about 500 or 600 metres but it was further than they thought. I was also playing him the music he liked and doing a lot of talking to him.
He went into Rehab and I was told he'd be there easily for 6 months, but he was home in about 6 weeks. That's where we increased his walking to about 2 km. One day, one of the physiotherapists came in and told me we could increase his walking to 500 metres. I said "OK" and smiled. I didn't tell them he was doing 4 times that much.
His injury is officially classified as "Severe Traumatic Brain Injury" because of a number of tests and markers in the first 7 or 8 weeks, and he definitely has a permanent multifaceted injury. But many doctors have said his recovery to this point has been remarkable.

Flea .. wonderful news regarding your scans! Enjoy your trip to Belize.
Machka ... you found your voice when it was most important. Your doggedness with your husband's recovery and his outstanding success, given the "experts" opinions, speaks volumes.
Debbie ... hope you're resting quietly today ...
Kim ... I'm thinking of you as you bake and create with your mom ...
Tracey ... that's a great photo of your dad. Thinking of you as you remember him. My dad has only been gone 4+ months and I cannot look long on his photos yet ... I get too emotional.
Barbie ... I forgot to tell you how impressed I was with your blanket for your grand-daughter. I was never able to get the hang of knitting or crocheting even though my grandmother tried (and she was incredibly talented).
This is an enforced rest weekend for me ...I had surgery under general anesthesia yesterday ... a hysteroscopy and D&C for post-menopausal bleeding ... though the post-meonpausal diagnosis was in question. My goodness, had two pregnancy tests in the past week! Two polyps found and removed. Waiting on lab biopsies, but since all my other tests prior to the procedure have been negative for cancer, I'm cautiously optimistic. I'm to take it easy this weekend, no lifting, minimal stairs/standing, etc. I'm going to use this to my advantage with my guys.
We are way behind with Christmas preparations, but I came home the other day after spending another lengthy visit with my Mom to find my husband had put all the outside decorations up. We don't do much, but he had to arrange life-like nativity figures in the alcove. Other than having Jesus facing backwards in his wee little bed he did pretty good!
We do have a Christmas party to go to tonight ... a potluck and I was asked to bring a vegetable dish. Need one trip to the basement to look for two "white elephant" gifts ... pretty certain there will be something appropriate down there given all the moving of stuff we've been doing for my Mom.
