Terri, Shoot. I'm so sorry you got Covid.
Rebecca, Thank you, that recipe looks simple and delicious.

Some of you may remember how long we waited for my brother's certified birth certificates from Nebraska, and that we had to order and pay for 2 more because the owner of the residential assisted living facility kept them from him? I made a complaint to the Inspector General of the United States Postal Service - who knows if it made any difference, but a couple of weeks ago the package was returned to the State of Nebraska, and they forwarded it to my brother at my address with a nice note. The birth certificates had been in the possession of the owner of the assisted living facility for nearly 8 weeks when she returned them to Nebraska. She withheld them from my brother. I told my brother the original 2 certificates had come in the mail, and he said, "Good grief!" I'm just so glad they aren't in someone else's hands.

How to slow down time because you’re not getting any younger
BY SOFIA QUAGLIA | PUBLISHED DEC 8, 2021 6:25 PM
https://www.popsci.com/diy/how-to-slow-down-time/
"The older we get, the shorter everything feels, and that can really be quite distressing. Last year’s holiday season feels like yesterday, as does the futuristic-sounding year 2000, and that was almost 22 years ago. Even summer isn’t as long and relaxing as it was when we were young.
As much as we may want to escape time, we can’t, and more and more research suggests that time is somehow intrinsic to our bodies. There is, of course, our circadian rhythm—a natural internal clock that can maintain a 24-hour cycle even while stuck in a dark, empty room for months at a time. And every one of our cells can also tell its own time, so much so that some scientists even assembled a biological clock in a test tube to study how it works.
But even if you’re not on an intellectual quest to determine the nature of time itself, your perception of time dictates a lot of how you experience your past, present, and future. And understanding how you perceive time can help you make the most of it."

Clear and dry so made it up to Gold Beach for church. T let me wimp out on holiday lights walk at the park. Watched evening prayer on FB.
Had a clumsy day, knocked over a glass bowl holding a candle while trying to check the cables connecting turntable to ancient Bose. Bowl shattered. Cut finger picking up pieces. Knocked head trying to hold trunk lid open while getting out tree skirt. Maybe not the best day to trim the tree, BUT…Joe asked several times when I was going to “put your tree up”. Since he claims to hate the holidays I have to seize his willingness when it happens, so held it while he installed it into the stand, and opened doors for him to carry it in. It’s a little 3 foot noble fir, really smells like Christmas. Got the lights on (always the hardest part) and perhaps a fourth of the ornaments without breaking any. Took the opportunity to put a few decorations into the “donate in October” box. Steps still short of goal but did get another 2K in before midnight walking/watching Celebrity Jeopardy.
Terri, oh no! Hope your healthy lifestyle makes for an “easy” Covid case.
There were others I wanted to comment to but they’ve gone out from my head. Guess it’s time to sleep.

I'm especially looking at the Assertive Communication article to use with one of my work colleagues who does not respect my boundaries: e.g. "I am happy to talk to you, but you will have to schedule a time because I am busy today."

Tomorrow is my last day at work for 3 weeks, so she'll have to schedule a time in the new year.

Terri-so sorry you couldn't skip Covid. Hope it is mild.
Karen in Va-Families can be so complicated-so many land mines. My brother who has had the recent surgery keeps apologizing to me for how he treated me when we were young-I have no idea what he is talking about! Glad you have a plan worked out for your younger brother and could connect with older to give him what is his part-that's the right thing to do. I guess your wedding day was memorable!
Karen from Oregon-nice snow man. We have not had nearly enough snow for such a thing-and I doubt I would build one (unless the grandkids were here). But I have fond memories of them and love seeing them.
Heather-hope chicken pox is a mild case. It may sound strange-but a bit refreshing to hear about some of the old, normal stuff!
Pip-glad you are on on the mend.
I was fairly lazy yesterday. I believe I have a cold (I have a couple of negative covid tests). I have had some decent body aches so maybe a flu variant? Who knows. No fever to date. Annoying cough. Really need to get one thing done in office today (interview for investigation in another department). If I continue fever free next two hours may run in and of that then come and work from home rest of day. Would only have to cancel one meeting this pm. We shall see.
Other than that-moving forward to Christmas.
Take care all,

Morning ladies
I got an early morning message from my dear friend who lost her husband, she had a rough night.I had a blanket made with her favorite picture of him on it, she had to take an adivan and 1/2 a gummy and go to bed early as she was having a rough day.. she took his ashes to bed with her poor girl.
She said to me she wished I lived closer as she says I have such a nurturing nature and im like a second mom to her..her mom was Tom's first wife lol..
Go figure..
We had snow last night.. just a couple inches.. it looks pretty.. and luckily I have a garage to park the car in so I dont have to swipe it off.8 -

Ginny - Yes, it is a hark back to the old days! I think she is OK, but it throws the whole family out of sinc with changed plans etc. She is too young to amuse herself for long. Edie says she is so excited to be picked up on her own by us. She is jealous of Bea's Tuesday sessions!
Did a good morning's writing, talking about my routines with DH, which have so enhanced my life. Our exercise and writing rituals have become almost a daily spiritual practice, which gives both of us so much deep pleasure and calm.
Now for the lunch ritual!

It's a strange thing, but the news is full of snow and ice affecting everywhere, especially the South East. Schools, airports, roads etc closed. We woke up this morning to no frost and no snow. The South Downs are just to the north of us and have protected us from the north east wind. The sea has kept us warm. (The South Downs are hills, and are a National Park) I'm not complaining, especially as we have to walk to the school and back later.

Good morning ladies!
Barbara - I had to smile at your description of Joe not liking Christmas. It was that way with my DH for the last decade or so of his life. I dreaded that time of year because he would get so depressed - perhaps some S.A.D.?
Christmas thoughts (religious, feel free to skip.)But, on the positive side, it made me realize Christmas was a date someone put on the calendar. To me (not pushing religion on anyone) the celebration of Christ's birth was something I could celebrate every day of the year. So why pin hopes of tidings and good cheer on that day or that week? I naturally had the "Christmas spirit" in the spring when the birds were singing, flowers blooming, earth waking up. Why not?
DH and I couldn't recapture the Christmases we had as children, with all that family around. Grandmothers who lived next door or within a mile of our homes cooking special dishes for days. Back then it was all about food and presents. And we loved to reminisce.
As a "senior", the Christmas season is much more special now. No longer about food and getting stuff. Gratitude abounds. Fa la la la la, la la la la!
Karen in VA - you've been a caregiver, in a sense, all of your life, and you've been exceptional because you love it. Glad things got worked out with your brother. How did you and he end up in Virginia if I may ask? (Can't remember where your other brother is living.)
A brief story about how we came to WA State:DH and his buddy were from the Midwest and ended up on the west coast and enlisted in the Marines in Seattle in 1967 or thereabouts. They had bummed around, ran out of money, decided they wanted to see the world and experience life, so became the property of Uncle Sam and learned about SE Asia.
Fast forward ten years. DH was out of the Marines and we were married, decided our destiny was to not live in Indiana for the rest of our lives. He said "why not Seattle?" So we packed up like the Beverly Hillbillies and came out west. And talk about a coincidence. The first job he got when we pulled into town was as a teacher in Seattle.... the private school was at the exact location/building where the Marine Corps enlistment office was where he signed up a decade earlier. The first of many, many serendipitous events in our life together.
Karen in OR - Wow, great snowman. Now that really takes me back to my childhood in Indiana. Will your snow stick around most of the winter?
Machka- I really appreciate all of your posts. Wish I'd have run across similar ten years ago when I was still working, but what do they say - something about when you're ready the teacher appears? Ten years ago I probably wouldn't have been ready for the teacher.
When I was starting the fire this morning, I sat in front of the wood stove for several minutes and tossed Rosie's toys to her. She was so happy, and it was like each dirty and raggedy stuffed toy was something new to be chased and squeaked.
She has taught me a lot about finding joy in the simple things each day.
And I decided I need to apologize to many of the old people who I used to pity when I was younger. The "poor Aunt Thelma, sitting there all day talking to her dog and throwing toys. What a sad and lonely life for her" idea.
I gotta tell ya, the pleasure and contentment and gratitude I feel just doing simple things like playing with the dog is immeasurable. Don't think I'd trade it for being 30 again and chasing after the "best job" or the "perfect body".
Better get crackin. Want to get in a speedwalk then head to town later this morning.
Make it a wonderful week, ladies. Terri and others with various bugs - hope the illnesses are mild and short-lived.

I slept for nearly ten hours last night, and seven of them were straight through - it was flippin' glorious. Well, except for my back stiffening up from not being used to it...
As always, Corey's radar where I'm concerned kicked in and he called me about ten minutes after I got up to check on me. Makes me feel very loved... My DD called just a bit ago, too. She and her new hubby went to the Bridgerton Ball on Saturday night (the Army basically says "you will go, and it's $35 a ticket, and it's for charity." Same messaging as "You, you and you just volunteered." ) They either had to go in full dress blues, formal wear or Bridgerton costume.
When she picked up the kids yesterday, Levi was in bad shape--the grandparents have three dogs (in a two-bedroom apartment) and he's allergic, plus he still wasn't completely over the flu when his dad picked him up to spend the weekend with them. The cough is really bad now. Hopefully he's doing better by this Friday, but if he's not, I told her not to come down, just everyone stay home and rest and recuperate.
Terri - I'm sorry Covid caught up to you, hope it's very light and you're back on your feet quickly. Same for everyone who's under the weather...
Rested and ready to do something, just haven't figured out what quite yet...
Love,

The ranger here gave a washer and dryer to the hosts so they don’t have to go to the laundromat anymore! That was a welcomed Christmas gift. Old and a few issues but works so very happy about that. Spent the afternoon doing wash there. Need to go back today to finish. So nice to do wash in a private place!
My kids went to a party to celebrate their grandmother’s 100th birthday party. They sent me this picture which I absolutely love. I have one like that but from 10 years ago. Another present I truly enjoy.
My “adopted stray” daughter who used to be a ranger here but moved back to NY, sent us gifts. First card of the season and gifts. She went overboard but I love her like a real daughter. To be honest, she sent more that I’ll get from any ‘real’ family or even DH.
Got to get going back to finish that wash, walk the dog, etc., etc.,
Have a wonderful day everyone.

Barbie — Over the years I have knitted baby blankets for family births. I enjoyed knitting them. I am now looking at a new idea —knitting afghans/blankets to warm seniors in nursing facilities. DH was given a lovely one quite recently. It sparked a new idea. I just happen to have Red ❤️ heart super saver yarn in OMBRE.
I will get started today.

Woke up crying and missing my youngest! Nothing like yelling out his name to nobody, because you haven't said it aloud in so long. Just saying it, brings out the waterworks. Gosh I miss that darn kid.
Today I am putting away my Christmas cards. I don't have the desire to write them up to all my dear pen pals and family. I will buy the "Merry Christmas mother in law" etc ones though.
Also today I am sweeping and cleaning the kitchen floor! It needs it! I have let it go on for far too long.
Vacuumed the bedroom, bathroom, washed bedding and had Lee help me make the bed yesterday. Of course I was way too warm last night, the sheets were "too tucked".
Completely off all pain meds the remainder of them put away. Its nice to not have to take the powder to regulate me, from taking the narcotics. I get tweaks now and then from the incision near my belly button, but they pass. Tomorrow I have my 2 week after surgery appointment, which it will be interesting to see how big the incisions actually are, when they take off the dressings. I have only had one shower since 11-29, (I can hear all you ladies say ewww!) but I wash with wash cloths, hot water, twice daily. My hair seems happier, and goes into a ponytail easier, (you know cuz its greasy!), but I will wash it sometime this week, I promise!
To all you new gals WELCOME! To those hurting, ((((((((gentle hugs)))))).

Deb--Glad the first part is done and going well.
Beth--Great news!! Sparkly/ sequin top to celebrate sounds like a fun time. Will be looking forward to pictures of you and Elmo adventures. Sounds fun.
Allie--I agree the one in front of the tree is so cute and be good for when he is a teeneager.
Betsy--Sorry you missed the wedding. Hope they took lots of pictures to share with you. This flu stuff going around is nasty. DH and I had it 3 weeks ago tomorrow and still have the cough. Nasty stuff. Take care and get lots of rest.
KJ--Love the tipi. What fun. Did I say I want to be one of your day care children? You do so much for them and they are learning.
Karen--Sending lots of hugs. Family is hard.
Had a nice weekend, was busy. Today another storm is coming. Rain so far with turning to ice and snow tonight. I want to try and get some cookies made this week and try the peanut brittle. Box up and pass out to neighbors.
DD had her teeth pulled this morning. Sounds like so far she is doing well. Feel sorry for her DH as she is such a baby and had had DH take the week off to take care of her.
Well take care and we can do this.

Edie was super happy and excited to be picked up from school. She talked the whole way home, telling us jokes.
I found the walk home hard work, but managed to rally to cook her dinner, while she spent a happy time making facial hair for DH. Her creation.
We both accompanied her to Art Class around the corner and then we went to the mini supermarket to buy peanuts for Rebecca's recipe.
Delicious chilli tonight, after I had recovered.

I am happy for an early Christmas gift from my younger grandson. He gave me a new horse calendar for January 2023. Both of us love horses. 🐎.
Barbie— I have noticed number of elders in home care and/or nursing homes that enjoy warm blankets. I am planning to begin knitting blankets for them. I will begin with one and see how it goes. . 🤞🏻 ❤️ 🤞🏻3 -
Well I had a very pleasant date. He is a better conversationalist than I am, which is great. I told stories of my military days. I had a salmon burger, with pineapple and avocado. It was pretty good, but not as awesome as it sounded, and it was impossible to pick up. So I ate it with a knife and fork. He wants to get together again after the holidays. So it was thoroughly pleasant, no red flags. One lingering doubt that I might have heard wrong.
Meanwhile I have to start the pork loin for my parents' dinner.
Have a lovely day,

Went to work for around 6.5 today. May do some stuff tonight after I clean up from dinner. Cold is no worse (just not better), still negative for Covid so I will shut up whining. While I wasn't sure how it would go, since I got home while still light out, walked outside. A bit cool (33 or so) but felt pretty good. Was only planning on maybe a mile-got 3 miles in. No worse for the wear. Think tonight will be early to bed. Will take some muscinex before then-slept well last night and was able to breathe through nose and coughing didn't wake me up.
Katla-excellent idea for afghans. Ladies in my group also make hats, mittens, and scarves for homeless shelters and food pantries. People are very appreciative of those. They make really cute and colorful ones for the kids.
Enjoy the rest of today so you have strength for tomorrow.
