Barbie— Someone donated a beautiful afghan to the nursing facility here. It was given to dh and he loves it. He has been warm and happy since it was given to him. I am happy for dh’s comfort and I have begun to knit a similar blanket to give to someone else. I have made a good start. 😊2

Barbara - How super nice of Joe. My brother requested we give our gift money to his church food bank. Very happy to oblige. It's a warming feeling all round.
Bea has gone home. Long day, but she had a fantastic time. Lots of creative apps! My poor son looked shattered when he picked her up. It's a train strike, so the traffic out of London was terrible. And he still has some work to do this evening. DH did some painting apps with her while I took a short nap. He is a hero!
Machka - Sending healing wishes to the other side of the world. Feel better soonest. Xxxxxxxx
Debbie - and to you too. I hope all goes well tomorrow. Xxxxxxxx I will be thinking of you.
Love to all, the house is very quiet!

The recommended diet for diabetes is a pretty good one.
Exercise is supposed to be a help as well.
M in Oz
Yep, I have heard you can reverse it with diet alone. Husband has been exercising daily since he's had access to the base gym, so he's good there. He is a guy that jumps with both feet, so when he was told to not eat white bread, he switched to whole wheat. Then no sodas with sugar, he choose diet ones. Now he is drinking his English Breakfast tea plain, no sugar. This is before any actual sit down with a doctor or dietician. He's just got blood results back that show it, and the doctor was so worried when she called and informed him. She doesn't seem to be making any call backs to discuss things though.

Beth - On the Cowboy Cookies, I put everything I can in the oven beforehand to brown them up and get them caramelized, including the pecans, the coconut, and even the oats. It just makes the cookies taste that much better--not necessary, but definitely a good addition. I've added a bit of blackstrap molasses, too, and they're good with or without it.2

Allie ~ Have you thought about asking your doctor to prescribe allergy pills that might help the sneezing. I know with all your medical issues you have to be careful of what you take, but, there may be something that would help.
Katla ~ I am glad you are enjoying your knitting project. My granddaughter is learning how through a friend that made her interested in this. I have never knitted or crocheted. But, I have done quite a lot of sewing in my life.

Machka ... glad your surgery is behind you and you can now rest and heal!
Debbie ... praying that your surgery will be uneventful as well ...
Rebecca ... so glad you're on the mend. My husband was diagnosed Type 2 Diabetes this past summer and with diet changes alone he has brought his numbers way down and lost quite a bit of weight... but he's had to give up his beloved ice cream. We started with small changes ...
Annie ... I still love old-fashioned chivalry (because it doesn't go out of style) and would have hoped the date would've at least asked if you wanted to be escorted to your car. My husband was great at that kind of thing when we were dating years and years ago. Today, he just forgets. And then my son gives him the devil for forgetting! I am always tickled when young men today hold the door open for me when I'm shopping ... the gray hair has some advantages.
Barbara ... that Joe! He's proof that we're all works in progress ...
Christmas cards are mailed, all the decorations I feel like bringing out are on display, tree is up. Pretty much done with shopping. We have a wedding to attend on Saturday and then a surprise birthday party for a dear friend on Sunday. My mother has asked for stuffed cabbage for Christmas dinner and there's not much to that. I'll do a little baking closer to Christmas (otherwise everything will be eaten before the holiday). Probably going to make more of Rebecca's peanut brittle and give a go at Lisa's cowboy cookies. I have a new recipe for a chocolate coated raspberry candy ... I'll let you know how that goes.
Thinking about those not feeling well and those who are in the way of bad weather! Stay warm and safe.
Beth near Buffalo
That's encouraging! My husband eats very regimented. But he never eats mindlessly so that's good. He's already drinking diet sodas (maybe 1 or 2 a day) and taking his tea black which he's not to thrilled about. He tried using my Truiva sweetener, but said it tasted weird. 🙄😜

Surgery is done and I am home.
Nose is quite sore as are my head and eyes. My eyes have started getting puffy and dark around them (they are still OK in the photos below. I took those right after the surgery).
Hip is only sore when I am walking.
I'm eating some noodles and then I will go lie down.
Machka in Oz
you look great!! I hope I look that good tomorrow afternoon.
Just got the message from my doctor- best four words I could hear-
ALL MARGINS ARE CLEAR!!
All the melanoma was removed/he got it all!!
All set for tomorrow.9 -
Rebecca - my elder son reversed his type 2. Lots of exercise and a healthy diet. I'm afraid diet drinks won't help.
Phew! Relaxing now. I'm going to text the family tonight about tomorrow. We were scheduled to pick up the girls and walk them back here, but Bea is not allowed in school. Max has a carol concert that they felt they had to go to. I will ask later. My son is knackered, so I'm giving him a moment.

I will have to remember that trick when I am making cookies with those ingredients. Makes total sense!!
Now if this old brain can remember.
I bet it will make the oatmeal cookies I make for dh so much better., and a little molasses in them would really taste good- I am not a fan of oatmeal cookies usually but think I would be if I try your trick. THANKS

internet was down this morning so took the time and got about 15 craft projects pulled out to keep Ezie busy this afternoon and then while I recoup-
Plan on having her three days next week(taking Monday off, but will see how I am feeling on Sunday)
then four days the next week and the following week. Have both Christmas and winter project kits ready for her.
Need to pack up the last of the candies for my zumba friends and my neighbors and a couple friends.
I got most of it cut and packed so will be easy to just fill the containers. Should be able to finish in less than 20 min.
Ezie still has a bit of a cold so sanitizing everything she goes near and washing my hands every time I get close to her. Can't get sick now. She is near the very end of it- had the cold and was out for a week, went back for a week then out for another week plus a day with pinkeye/cold. She shouldn't still be contagious but not taking a chance.
Have her 3 hrs today then I am done til Monday or Tuesday(planning on Tuesday)
Dh had to take his mom in for catscan yesterday- the doctor had seen a spot on her lungs when they did the xray when she fell back in June. Dh doesn't remember about it being there(I do but cant convince him of it). The report before going in yesterday said it was 10cm, there is blockage to the arteries and a few other things. She is 87- she isn't going to have any treatment if it is cancer.(not sure they would even try)
Waiting for son to get his ultrasound done to see what is going on with his liver- test result showed really high enzymes so want to check and do a few more tests.
Then me dealing with my upcoming surgery(and all the appointments before it)
so, Mr. Pessimist is really having a hard time right now, trying to process everything.
I used to be a bit of a worrier but not as much anymore- put it in God's hands and let it go.
I wish he would be able to do that even just a little.
Going to try and get to bed a little early but doubt I will get to sleep early- alarm will go off at 4 so I can drink the stuff they sent home with me(only half, thankfully, beings I am pre-diabetic). If it is too sweet, I can cut it with a little seltzer. Need to do that 2 hrs before going in.
Need to get some breakfast- nothing sounds good, then head over to get Ezie- Wed. pick up is crazy over there because they have minimum day and every kid at the whole school gets out at the same time and no where near enough parking. Don't want to get there late and have to park a few blocks away.
Normally I would go early and walk but haven't done that since my fall. I will get back to walking after I heal. I really miss it.
Have a great afternoon ladies.
Thanks so much for all the well wishes and prayers- they are greatly appreciated.
Debbie

Michele--Your ceramics always look so nice. I think the thing with the bottles having no lids if dropped on the ground and get stepped on they would smash, where if lid on it would roll and someone could fall. Just what I think.
Machka--Glad it is done and now take care and rest all you can.
Barbara--Great that Joe is getting the spirit of giving. Proud of him and you.
Katla--Great on the blanket project. They will be a great gift for someone in the nursing home that is cold all the time. Have you moved yet or did I miss that?
Deb--Great news on the lab results. Good Luck tomorrow.
Got the rest of the gifts wrapped last night and am done with that. Hoping to get some baking done this weekend. It is cold and windy. Good ole Nebraska.
Blessings, Vicki GRAND ISLAND, NE1 -
Hello ladies!
I just had my mango spinach smoothie. Those are working out well. I'm eating a tub of spinach in a week!
Tonight I'm making tuna steaks for my parents so I might have a bit. It will be an experiment to cook them. Most recipes say buy sushi grade and serve it rare to raw inside. The bag says cook it thoroughly. I'm planning three minutes on a side and see what we get.

I think I got scammed. I have a couple of packages people sent that went to the wrong address. I got 2 texts today one from UPS and one from USPS—I thought— one wanting $3 the other .99 and correct mailing addresses to forward the packages. Both seemed legitimate because there are at least 2 packages and 1 letter with the wrong address on them. Stupid me sent the $3 to the first one, but the second one kept saying my card wasn’t accepted so went to my computer and tried. Chrome immediately came back saying it was a bad site. So I looked up the one that took my care and the same thing! Now I’m not sure what to do from here. I should have known better…

Hmm. A refuge space I love in my home. That's tough because it's not really my home. It works well to live together here, and I have been able to save money, but it's still my parents' house. I'm grateful to be able to stay here.
The tuna steaks didn't go over well. They were thoroughly cooked. My mom said it got caught in her teeth. Oh well.
I cancelled my horseback riding tomorrow in light of the forecast of pouring rain, as well as my sore shoulder.
Have a great evening,

Worked then after I took Jerry home I stopped at this place where I’m having 2 quilts made, then to Belk’s since Vince needs a bathrobe (the one he has is ratty looking although he doesn’t think so) and I had coupons for $25 off, got it there. A $100 bathrobe on sale for $30. Then Aldi. Do I have your permission to get sick now after going food shopping? Newcomer bowling tonight
katla – so glad you’re doing the knitting and keeping yourself busy
You know, when I work every other day, it seems I need a day of “catch up”. Oh, they (the other workers) do prep, but just the absolute minimum. Well, they asked me to work tomorrow since they’re having some sort of meeting and won’t be able to do the prep (the managers I’m guessing). I really don’t have a problem with it. But it should be interesting to see just how much I have to do tomorrow since I gave them the full prep today.
Allie – feel better fast
Vince ordered this reference book for Jess for Christmas. $225.00. For one book. But it’s a reference book that she really wanted.
Vince brought in the wrapping paper for the gifts, but first we need the empty boxes. Don’t know why he did it the way he did. Update: he did bring them in the house. After work tomorrow I'm thinking I'll make the crust for this chocolate cream dessert I'll take to Jess and as long as it isn't raining, I'll go for a walk while the crust is cooling before I put the filling in.
Vince mailed a package and the Christmas cards.
Debbie – what wonderful news!
Vicki – that makes sense about the bottles smashing versus rolling. I never thought of that

If you're interested in the Action for Happiness Calendar ...
Do Good December
This month, we're encouraging you to carry out small acts of kindness.
Or we could post something we're thankful for, or happy about, related to the holiday season.
December 1 - I love the Christmas music. Come December 1, that's almost all I play. Christmas music or classical music (when I have to think at work or when we're in the car).
December 2 - Christmas decorations! We're lagging behind a bit because I usually like to decorate on December 1. But we got the decorations upstairs on Dec 2. Today I'll rearrange furniture and make a start.
December 3 - Summer. My favourite season. And we are finally having a few days of decent weather after a very wild and woolly spring. That's not saying the good weather will last (thanks La Nina) but there should be more of it.
December 4 - Memories. So many of the Christmas songs and traditions remind me of my parents and grandparents and happy Christmases with them.
December 5 - Christmas Displays. I like how many of the shops have Christmas Displays, and some are quite detailed and intricate.
December 6 - Greetings. People smiling and wishing each other Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays.
December 7 - Shortbread. So much delicious shortbread!
December 8 - Family. Christmas seems to bring us together a bit more.
December 8 - Trees. All over the world, millions of people are putting up trees in their houses and work places and decorating them.
December 9 - Sparkly Things. I love how everything becomes sparkly at this time of year.
December 10 - Yummy Things. Mince tarts and cookies. Fudge. Special Chocolates. All sorts of nibbles that only come out at this time of year.
December 11 - Colours. Reds and greens and a few other combinations out everywhere.
December 12 - Christmas Stories. Twas the Night Before Christmas. A Christmas Carol. Jesus Birth.
December 13 - Wrapping things up, and I don't just mean presents.
December 14 - The Christmas songs i know by heart. I sang them to myself during my surgery to help keep me calm and focusing on something else.
December 15 - Rest. Except for one Christmas, I think I have had a holiday time over every other Christmas. Today I'm on enforced rest.
Just saw your post, Barbara ...Aha, finally found a December daily gratitude calendar.
https://www.spacewiseorganizing.com/december-gratitude-challenge/
“This time of year, there’s a lot of pressure to think about what we want instead of what we have. Every day for the month of December, celebrate what you’re grateful for corresponding to the theme of the day. Snap a photo or update your status on IG or FB with #spaceforgratitude”
1 What is something that makes you laugh? Rhody! We're so very glad we got our little COVID Cat!
2 Something about the current season you’re grateful for. Rest. There will be a lot of rest over Christmas.
3 What about your body do you love/are you grateful for? I like my nose and want to keep it. But my official answer will be legs - for transport (walking) and recreation (cycling).
4 Who is someone in your life that you’re grateful for? I've said husband and parents last month, and that's true, but this month I'll say ... my manager. She has been supportive and encouraging regarding my input into my job.
5 What is a book that changed your life? The Bible. With the Christmas season in mind, I'm reading the gospel of Luke now.
6 Think about something you’re good at. I think I'm good at planning and organisation.
7 What is a lesson you’re grateful you learned? To speak up. To say my piece.
When I was young, up till about 17-ish, I was quiet and shy. Then I went through a bolder phase from about 17 into my early 20s. Then the quiet shyness resumed for the most part until my husband's accident. And then the bold me reappeared!
Where I once guessed what people might be thinking and thought my answers, now I'm vocal and even told I'm quite blunt.
8 A basic need that has been met. Shelter. I'm very thankful for our particular shelter.
9 What are you most grateful for in the city/town where you live? The proximity to both mountains and beaches.
10 What rejection in your life are you most grateful for? Oh that's an interesting question. Either there haven't been many or I don't remember them but I'm drawing a blank. Although ... about 18 months or so ago, I didn't get a job I was going for and thought I wanted. I think I prefer the one I have now. I think it is providing me with more opportunities for experience and learning.
11 Something you use every day. A coffee cup to hold my morning coffee.
12 Something you don’t need anymore. What don't I need anymore? Perhaps some of the time consuming traditions like writing the Christmas letter, doing Christmas cards, heaps of baking ...
And outside of Christmas, I'm making choices that work for me. Picking and choosing what I want to do ... and don't want to do. I'm grateful I can make a few more of those choices.
13 Refuge – space you love in your home - my chair. I bought a wing chair about a year or so ago and it's my spot.
14 Item of clothing - rain jacket. Because it appears that it isn't going to stop raining! Also comfy pjs.
15 Taste - I am grateful that I still have a sense of taste. That was one thing my husband lost with his brain injury.16 Touch
17 Smell
18 Sound
19 Sight

22 A song that makes you happy.
23 Type of weather you love.

27 A movie you watch over and over.

Lisa … good tips on the cookies!
Debbie … great pathology report!
Allie … do you think you and the baby might have similar allergies? Hope you feel better soon!
Annie … do you use a thermometer when you cook? I have become wry dependent on mine especially with food I’m not familiar with.
