Worked today, then went to Salvation Army and got some Christmas ornaments (50% off too) then took Vince’s thing that we put the scanners in when we go to the Daytona to this gal to fix a zipper, then home and Vince and I went to WalMart. Now home. I made this chocolate dessert to take to Jess’ only the cream that you put on top I’ll take with me and put it on top when I get there. Got the butter out for the butter cookies which I’ll probably make tomorrow. Soup kitchen tomorrow. Unfortunately, rainy so no walk. Cold and rainy...yuk
Making yogurt in the IP. Question for anyone who uses a candy thermometer. Why is my thermometer getting cloudy inside???
Allie – rest up You push yourself sometimes too hard, so this rest is probably really needed.
Barbie – am I ever glad to know that I wasn’t the only one who read “Polish” and thought of the language!!!!
Got boxes for all the presents. Think we did pretty well. Vince & I went to WalMart and got some stocking stuffers
Now to take a shower and watch some TV
You know, lately when I’ve been looking for something to munch on, I seem to want food that will help my body. Interesting…. Many times a cookie or so would call me, but not lately. Fruit and sometimes cheese

I got the lab work results from my annual exam. Everything was great except for my Vit D. So I will be starting a prescription strength Vit D for 8 weeks. I had to ask to get they Vit D to be tested. In the future I will not need to ask. I did read it is best to take the Vit D with a fatty food for better absorption.3

Well I haven't heard anything from my date on Monday. I wouldn't be surprised if he just fades away. He certainly isn't eager.

I have a new refrigerator in my apartment. It is excellent. The previous one was damaged and I’m still waiting for the company that sent it to come and get it.
This evening I’m watching TV with DH. We are watching Gunsmoke—a TV program that first showed in 1952. The last episode was in 1975. We are watching reruns. DH loves them.
Have you moved to the new place close to your husband?0 -
Right now the days are just the right length for me to see the sun rise on my morning walk and the sun set on my late afternoon/evening walk. Lots more holiday lights tonight. I have had several opportunities to thank the neighbors who have put up the great lights in their yards.
Allie, getting home at 7 PM would be late for me. It is six o'clock now and in a moment I'll be brushing my teeth and getting ready for bed.
I eat exactly the same food every day except for lunch when we rotate about ten different lunch menus. It saves me from wondering what I'm going to eat.

Well husband and I had an interesting time at the commissary. I still look for the low fat items, and husband was looking at low sodium and low sugar items. He bought cereal that was lower, plus we found a sweetener with Truvia and munkfruit that he tried in tea and said it was acceptable! A win! We bought low sugar frozen waffles, skim milk, and sugar free pancake syrup and jam. He's going to try the Diet 5 brand of cranberry juice. Between the two of us, we will be making a lot of changes!
I was proud of him.💖👍🏻

I keep thinking I should be doing things but I can't think of anything much can do without glasses and without moving.
Just leaning forward a little gives me a blinding pain in my face and I'm limping with my hip.

Machka, You look great after getting through that surgery! Healing thoughts to you.
Lanette, I married my high school sweetheart (father of my son) when I was 18. His draft number was 9, so he enlisted in the Navy CACHE program. After bootcamp he was assigned to the Naval Station in Norfolk, VA. That's how I ended up in Virginia. My brother ended up here because he wanted to live near Washington D.C. because of the cultural richness, so after graduating college, he drove his little yellow Pinto to Reston, where I was living at that time, and took a job in D.C.
Vickie, Troublemakers gotta make trouble. It's a challenge to deal with employees like that. So sorry. I'm glad my days in an administrative role are over. (((Hugs)))
Rebecca, glad you are on the mend. I am sorry your youngest isn't better at staying in touch. You know he loves you, but it is heartrending to experience the long silences. Concerning your husband's diagnosis, it sounds as if he is off to a promising start with his food choices. I can see why you are proud of him.
Terri, I am so sorry about your Covid bout. I hate that virus. Sending virtual chicken soup.
Barbara, That Joe! He did you proud with the toy donations.
Debbie, Congrats on the medical news! What a relief!
Heather, Johnny is a hero! Wonderful soul. I don't understand why Bea has chickenpox.(??)
Allie, I am so glad you figured out how to post pictures. Miles is a delight & the photos are amazing.
Lisa, Your comment on siblings makes me a little sad. My siblings have all been too mentally ill to be that kind of sibling to me. It's lonelier for me than being an only child would have been. I have you gals and other girlfriends from high school as my sisters, thank goodness. Fills the void.

The movers came at 8:25am yesterday morning, and left the apartment at 11:10am! Record time. They were pleased with the preparations I had made, especially given the miserable cold rain they had to deal with. They did an excellent job, placed things where we wanted them and even moved a couple of things that didn't look quite right. They opened but (at my request) did not unload the wardrobe boxes and other boxes of personal items. They did open the cartons with new items (a mini refrigerator and a bedside stand, did the minimal assembly needed, and took the cartons and all trash away. I was super pleased with the job they did - 3 movers, their supervisor, and a move coordinator all working in sync. It was a wonder to behold. If anyone ever needs movers in the Richmond VA area, I've got some I can recommend. They have done all 3 moves the last 2 months - ours, my brother's, and the one for my stepson (furniture items we gifted him), and they've done the same outstanding job each time.
I found out I can take the UHaul boxes back and place them in their "take a box, leave a box" bin, so someone else can get good use out the wardrobe boxes once I have arranged my closet the way I want it. We had already brought my spouse's clothes over bit by bit since she was moving in a week earlier than I was. So now we have some unpacking to do, but it won't be too bad. And I am moving my kitchen items myself - I have very few items yet to bring over, just a few pots and pans (weeding out a lot), and some other odds & ends.

Gratitude:1 What is something that makes you laugh? Robin Williams movies.13 Refuge – space you love in your home. In my new home (apartment), I love my very own room. It has things I love in it and is a calm oasis.
2 Something about the current season you’re grateful for. Very grateful for the cool fall weather and the lovely rains.
3 What about your body do you love/are you grateful for? I am grateful for my hair. It's a pretty color and has body/wave. I never have to fuss with it.
4 Who is someone in your life that you’re grateful for? I am incredibly grateful for the assistant marketing manager Stephanie at our retirement community, who is skillfully navigating us through the portal into our retirement community. Among other things, she tactfully negotiated to return the larger storage space that originally came with our apartment (it had been commandeered, lol), assigned us a prime parking space near the elevator in the parking garage, gave us a grace period before we have to start daily "check ins", took charge of a delivery of large awkward boxes in our absence, delivering them into our apartment with care, spontaneously recruited us to join into a trivia game that was already underway, and numerous other little thoughtful gestures. Plus she is super responsive to emails.
5 What is a book that changed your life? To Kill a Mockingbird
6 Think about something you’re good at. I'm good at packing a box with random items (like a puzzle).
7 What is a lesson you’re grateful you learned? I am still learning this lesson. Do not talk at/overwhelm my younger brother with too much information or too many questions. He is vulnerable and becomes anxious and ultimately angry - because he feels inadequate, which makes him resentful.
8 A basic need that has been met. Basic needs: food, water, clothing, sleep, and shelter. All have been met with the possible exception of adequate sleep.
9 What are you most grateful for in the city/town where you live? Oh my gosh, there are so many great things about this neck of the woods. However, picking just one: I have a terrific network of friends and access to limitless resources in and around Richmond, VA where I live. So I would have to say "the people who live here".
10 What rejection in your life are you most grateful for? I am grateful for being rejected by my friend Liz in graduate school. We started out by ride-sharing to school and quickly became fast friends. Liz rejected my friendship when I betrayed a confidence involving another classmate Susan. I said something to Susan that tipped her off that Liz had revealed to me something personal about Susan that she had told Liz in confidence. Susan felt betrayed by Liz, and Liz felt betrayed by me. It was a life's lesson that I should have learned at a much younger age, but I learned it well and painfully this time, and paid dearly for it by losing Liz as a friend. It was excruciating. I apologized, but the damage had been done.
11 Something you use every day. I use my hot water kettle every day and I am consciously grateful for it every time I use it. I think, what a great little hot water kettle this is! every day, lol

12 Something you don’t need anymore. I no longer need my beloved John Deere lawn tractor. Time to dispose of it.
14 Item of clothing I have a navy blue with white polka dots dress I love. Sometimes I wear red Danskins with it. And a string of fake pearls.

I will have my nose redressed on Monday and then the stitches out on Wednesday.
So I may see the work on my nose on Monday.
Meanwhile, it's both itchy and painful. It's especially painful any time I lean forward a bit. WOW! Fortunately, the swelling is coming down and my right eye doesn't look quite as bad.
As for my hip, I don't get the stitches out there until the following week because it is quite a big wound.

Karen - Why shouldn't she have chicken pox? Sorry, don't understand.
Done a morning's work. Transferred draft Intro into print ready version. Ooufff! Hate doing this bit. I know I moan every time, but I really get nervous. I'm technically challenged around documents, but get there in the end, after much angst. Did quite a bit of rewriting in the process, with Lisa's head looking over my shoulder!

Perhaps you could take a short course to improve your technical skills. Then you'd feel better about this part of your writing.

Childhood immunizations prevent most cases of chickenpox. Sometimes children do get chickenpox anyway, but it's usually a super mild, or in some cases, subclinical case. I guess I shouldn't assume she has been immunized, has she been?

OMGosh Annie, I love dark chocolate too! It's the only kind I eat!
(except this time of year, I do like Hershey's white and peppermint kisses, yummy)
Machka, I'm so sorry you're still in so much pain and pain in your head make your whole body hurt. Sending healing wishes.

Rebecca, So glad your chief is taking his own health in hand. After everything y'all have gone through, he needs to stay healthy! My mother kept her diabetes in check through diet, as well. Corey and I keep the Diet5 cranberry juice around all the time, too. I try to never eat more than 15 grams of sugar in anything because it can provoke my dumping syndrome. The cranberry juice is good for my kidneys, and he doesn't like high-calorie drinks unless it's a beer!
Barbara, I keep forgetting to say how happy I am for your Joe! Warms the cockles of my heart...
Heather, Soldier on, my dear. Remember, you are smarter than the computer! Just go with WWLD, "What would Lisa do?"
Allie, You and your friends look joyous and toasty warm. Love the pics of Miles, too, always.
Karen, So glad the movers did a great job! I'm so sorry the sibling comment makes you sad, but I can definitely see why it would. I've watched your intense investment in your painter brother's well-being. That kind of support is exhausting, and I'm glad you have all of us and your friends who can support you.
Regarding siblings, I'm finding my way very gingerly into a completely new relationship with my sister--we are finally talking as equals instead of big sis/little sis. She's the only sibling I speak to, and she speaks only to me and our brother--the only other one that shares the same parents. Adult sibling relationships can be lifelines or land mines. And sometimes both.
My family's on their way! Just got a text from Kels. They should get here about 2 or 3.
I've got eggs boiling in the Instant Pot to make into deviled eggs later.
Love y'all!

My experience with siblings is very limited. My only sibling died when I was in college. My mother's only sibling died when I was three years old. My father's only sibling communicated only with him via letter addressed to his office.
Something I love about retirement is that I can start my day at the super early time I like and end it at an equally early time of my choice. I am out of bed by 4:30 AM and in bed at night before 7:00. It works great for me.

Last evening I watched old westerns with DH. He likes Marshal Matt Dillon. Some of those shows were in black and white, and others were colorized. When DH was tired he went to bed.
I stayed up in another room and turned to zoo shows and veterinarian shows. 😊 I love watching animals.6 -
Karen sounds like your moving went really well! That can make or break the experience of moving totally! I know thus last time we moved, it was from the next street over. It was strange, because we just filled up many carloads, and didn't really box anything, just took out things from cabinets, and put in the car. So then I just would take the stuff and load into the cabinets here. It was weird. We did rent a truck for the big items though. If we ever do move from here, we definitely will use movers, we're too old to bother!
He's moved the Diet 5 juice with his canned lemonade he had in the fridge Lisa! He said it completely overtook the lemonade but at least its drinkable. So that bottle was a no. We will buy different juices each week until we come up with what might work. He thinks we need to maybe shop more at the market here with more whole foods, healthy stuff. Maybe, but its gonna cost us much mire than the commissary.
Having my new friend over this next Tuesday. She is the gal that we went to their home for Thanksgiving. I am making soup with shrimp, and she's bringing sourdough bread she makes! This weekend I will make some stock from my grocery store roasted chicken, and return her mason jar with soup in it. She had given me a jar of apple butter she made. I decided because its just me eating it on toast, that I would put it in the plastic tray my frozen Mochi ice cream comes in, so now if I wish some, I can take a ball out at a time. I just defrost it for a minute in the microwave and voila! I also use the plastic pans the individual microwavable rice portions come in. Sometimes when I just don't want to bother making rice in my rice cooker, I am prone to buying the packs of three containers of already made rice you microwave. I use the plastic pans to portion out my chicken. One pan is like a nice soups worth or a hearty chicken salad sandwich. Plus the chicken pieces aren't all stuck together, and I just stack the little plastic pans and put in a large zip lock bag.
Today I am using my street tacos, firming them in the oven, and putting on a bit of marinara sauce, a slice of salami, and slice of tomato. Then topping with a slice of havarti cheese and black olives. Then putting it under the broiler. Heaven!
I bought sugar free coconut dark chocolate bars, and sugar free mint patties, which are in a pretty container on the coffee table. Last night, with the Christmas lights glowing, and Netflix has a Yule log I had on, so that was nicely crackling, then I had two pieces of the coffee table yummies with coffee. Its the little things.💖👍🏻

Machka--You need to rest. Please take care of yourself. I understand it is hard to sit still for very long. But you need to take care of yourself.
Not a lot of news from here. Went to several of the DGC Christmas program. They go to a small town school and I love that they call it a Christmas program and sing Christmas songs.
Not much planned for the weekend. Sunday is church and the children are putting on a program. I have a DGS in that.

Karen - As far as I know, there is no vaccination programme over here for chicken pox. That's why I didn't understand the question. We have lots of childhood vaccinations, but not that one. (I may be wrong, but most children just get it) She is perfectly fine, but not allowed to go to school, which throws out all the schedules. They are all on holiday next week, but my son and DDIL have to make progress with their packing for their move at the New Year. I am waiting for a call, but also hoping we won't have to do too much. I really want to get on with my book. I know the other grandparents are having them for a couple of days at some stage. I find it difficult having all three together as there is a big age gap. Winter is harder. However, I am ready to do my bit for the family. Soooo much pressure on them. Getting organised for a six month stay in an unfurnished apartment and having to clear the ground floor and much of the house for the builders. With three children and full time jobs.
When I did over two houses I had a complete breakdown both times. Severe depression. They are made of sterner stuff, but my son takes over too much and runs himself ragged.

Siblings: I had one sister, diagnosed with schizophrenia when she was 21, so not much help as a sibling. I mourned the loss of her my whole adult life. She died about five years ago, and I am thankful she is finally healed and at peace.
I am with my mother. Hospice predicts she will pass on the next few hours or days. I drove up last night. My husband and son are on their way to Belize, and I will join them later, if I am able. This is hard, but my mom is ready to go. She is completely non responsive, so I have the lights dimmed and traditional Christmas music playing. She hasn't had anything to eat or drink for over 24 hours.
