WOMEN AGES 50+ FOR DECEMBER 2022

Today Bessie went on an exceptionally long walk after breakfast (95 minutes instead of her usual 10-30). It was all in the big field behind the house so I didn't get my usual long walk on the streets. My step count was so low that I had to walk again after lunch to get to 10,000 steps. Walking in the daytime is not my favorite but I did talk to several people and get current news of the neighborhood.
Annie glad you enjoyed your date. Take it one day at a time and don't make any snap judgments.
To all of you recovering from surgery--I hope you will put care of yourself at the top of your list and cross off several others
Heather you have a big challenge weighing the expense and travel challenges against the joy of the destination

Today was my 2 week checkup with surgery doctor. It went very well. He took off the gaze dressings and now just have tape over the stitches. Kind of sore around the one by my bra, and also around my belly button. But not too bad.
Never did ask doctor about donating blood tomorrow. I'm sure it will be fine.
Nothing else to report.ππ€π
Hugs ladies!

Yay Rebecca! Sounds like your recovery is going fine. Now we need to keep Debbie and Machka in our thoughts. Everybody take care of yourselves!
Pip you and Lucy and Yogi and Chispas are walking up a storm! You bounce right back!
I've tweaked my shoulder again carrying groceries. So no dumbbells tonight.
Hope everyone is safe in the storms.

It was my turn for insomnia last night. I got my phone out at four a.m. to read. But then I fell asleep around five and only woke up maybe three more times before my alarm at seven thirty. Probably related to the iced tea I had for lunch.
I have to get groceries today, and then Teddy goes to the vet at two. Then I have a pork loin to cook for dinner. So plenty to do.
My date yesterday didn't walk me to my car. He didn't ask me to text him when I got home safe. He didn't text me at all. I left a message for him on the dating site. On one hand, he is treating me like an equal, but on the other, it feels a bit inconsiderate. I have to think about how much that matters to me. I used to have a rule that I should ask for what I want, then give him a chance to do it, before I judge. Is walking me to my car universally known to be expected good behavior?
Annie in Delaware
I haven't dated in ages and the last time I did I didn't own a car ... but these days I don't think I would want a person I had just met to walk me to my car. If he did, he would know what kind of car I had and my licence plate number.

Surgery is done and I am home.
Nose is quite sore as are my head and eyes. My eyes have started getting puffy and dark around them (they are still OK in the photos below. I took those right after the surgery).
Hip is only sore when I am walking.
I'm eating some noodles and then I will go lie down.

Well, thatβs the last time we will go to ceramics at that building. Sheβs expecting to open late January. We shall seeβ¦.

I have started on my new knitting project. I have a good start. I chose blue Red Heart variegated shades of blue. I am enjoying my knitting already. The colors are pretty and I am happy. I plan to knit an afghan sized blanket that will warm an elder adult in home care or a nursing home.

Katla - sounds like your project will turn out nice. I am crocheting one for a friend in shades of purple.
Machka - hope recovery goes smoothly.
Rebecca - glad you are doing well.
Debbie - good thoughts winging your way.
Went to water exercise today and then later to get my hair cut. It had gotten longer than usual because my hairdresser was sick and had to reschedule. Going to try making potato soup for tomorrow. The next Wednesday is our choir party and the theme this year is Ukrainian to celebrate the anniversary of the "Carol of the Bells". I have done some research and will try my hand at a Ukrainian apple dessert. Should be interesting.
Everyone take care, Sue in WA6 -
Machka Iβm glad that your surgery went well. I hope that your recovery goes smoothly π

13 Refuge β space you love in your home βsitting at Mamaβs desk in the office, dogs on their boundaries, Christmas music on turntable, view through the woods down the powerline to the sea. Grateful even when the dogs arenβt on their boundary beds and the view is stormy or foggy.

Lanette Yours in the spoiler truth. With Joe Iβm guessing it was the straitened circumstances after his parents split up. Mother had no money, sometimes had to feed the five kids bread and gravy. Likely the first Christmas thereafter was a hard one. As he was eldest a lot of the βman of the houseβ responsibilities fell on his shoulders. And it wasnβt just Christmas but he resisted/opposed any suggestion of generosity toward others at any time of the year. But wait, thereβs more to this story. A few weeks ago he suggested that in stead of giving each other gifts we donβt need, that he buy some toys and donate them to kids who might not get anything. I cannot tell you how happy that made me. He followed up yesterday morning, going to Bi-Mart, buying a Barbie (!), a HotWheels garage and cars, and a remote controlled monster truck. When he put them in the Toys for Tots barrel at the bank all the ladies at the bank were very happy with him. They said he was the first to put anything in the barrel this year. When he told me this story, his good feeling/joy/glee just radiated out from him. This from my Bah Humbug curmudgeon. Miracles happen.
Lisa great pic, what was the charity? Poor Levi!
Rebecca gentle ((hugs)) held extra long.
Rita beautiful pics of beautiful faces. Hooray for private laundry!
Vicki hope the storm bypasses you and yours.
Heather I just love the stories of Bea, Max, Edie and Johnny. And the pics too.
Annie thankful for your pleasant evening, but trust your ears.

Ginny 3 miles with a cold after a full dayβs work? Wow!
Debbie prayers for Thursday and beyond.
Machka hope your recovery is swift, painless and complete..

Thanks for all the good wishes. I have fluey symptoms, low energy and appetite (have lost 3lbs in the last 5 days), normal aches and pains exaggerated, very headachy, dry cough and sneezing. Itβs easing a little this morning.

KJ: That tipi is incredible. You're incredible.
Karen: Adding my hugs to the pile. π€π€π€ You are a remarkable person....Best wishes for your anniversary and may you enjoy many happy years together in your new abode.
Rebecca: Will try that recipe soon!
Michele: Re bottle caps being removed. At the venues where Aramark provides the food and beverage, they take them off for health and safety reasons. Alot of bottles get discarded on the ground, and if they are capped, they are more of a tripping hazard. Also, if a patron decides to throw a full bottle of water (and I have seen this at shows) the water will spill out and the projectile will be less dangerous. It's not a consistent policy, but if having water is important to you, check ahead of time if you can bring in your own empty, nalgene water bottle. Most of the venues here in Denver permit that, as long as the bottle is under 32 oz. That is far more economical, too.
Heather: Johnny's moustache! FOTGLMAO.
Terri, Ginny and others under the weather: Healing energy heading your direction. π¨π¨π¨
Lanette: Yes, I hear you about the simple joys of time with beloved pet. Mars the Leash Loving Cat is the number one reason I get outside every single day, rain or shine. We rarely walk on pavement because he prefers to be closer to the open fields behind our condo. After so many years of accompanying him, I now treasure the time we have together listening for the rustle of a rodent under a pile of leaves, or just finding the perfect spot for soaking sunshine. Bliss.
Which brings me more gratitudes:
8. A basic need that has been met. Food and clean water.
9. What are you most grateful for in the city/town where you live? Comfortable weather. The four seasons are all beautiful and sunny, even after it snows.
10. What rejection in your life are you most grateful for? My last corporate boss had total disregard for my position and eliminated it. I was eligible for my full pension, and taking retirement when I did allowed me the time to focus on caring for DH his last 2.5 years. So, so grateful I could afford to do this.
11. Something you use every day. My kitchen under-the-sink water filter. I use it for everything from day to day drinking, to washing fruits and veges, and watering the plants.
12. Something you know longer need. Hard covered books. Iβve given away 90% of what I had, and will purge more in the new year.
Stay well, friends. We can do this.

The recommended diet for diabetes is a pretty good one.
Exercise is supposed to be a help as well.

Rebecca-glad post surgical report was good (I always worry a bit until then).
Machka-now you can focus on healing. Puffy eyes (even if you have some interesting facial colors) are worth getting rid of the cancer. Hope pain levels are not too bad.
Annie-I'm not sure these days if a man would know the best way to handle walking to a car. Some women would find it chauvinistic, others think it's considerate. I would wait and see how any future contacts go before making judgement.
Debbie-It seems like you will be as prepared as you can be! I also spend a lot of time prepping before a procedure-the cats aren't much help and I don't like people around when I don't feel well!
Terri-sounds like your symptoms are on the milder side, thank goodness. We have an uptick of Covid here (I have three-four staff that I know of), in addition to regular flu and colds. Continue healing.
Katla-good to hear you have ways of occupying time-and for a good cause.
Heather-I would find Cyprus tempting. One thing I envy people who live on the other side of the Atlantic is the ability to visit so many different cultures with relative ease.
Cold is doing better. Have slept well the last couple of nights. Got tied up in a work project yesterday and missed my hair appointment. Was able to rebook for after Christmas. Texted her my apology. When I go in I will pay for missed appointment and give her her Christmas tip. My forgetfulness cost her money and I really like the job she does. Oh well-my kids and grandkids won't mind my hair being a bit longer!
Getting ready for two meetings this week on Thursday and Friday and then I will be out of office most of time until after New Year. May stop in the week in between (but we are closed Monday and Friday that week). Looking forward to the break. Will celebrate Christmas with younger son and DIL that week and that may be when I get together with step son and family (it is easier with their families and work to spread stuff out). I go with what is easier for them-just glad they fit me in.
Off to get ready for a new day.
Take care all,

A few details:
The numbing needle wasn't as bad in my nose as it was for the biopsy - that was a relief.
And by comparison I barely felt the numbing needle in my hip.
The cuts in both nose and hip are quite deep.
I'm not sure how long the nose cuts are but the cut in my hip is probably about 2 inches long.
I was awake the whole time (about an hour) and to distract myself, I sang Christmas songs in my head.
The pain is not too bad while I am taking painkillers. But I can't wear my glasses so I can only see things close up. And my eyes hurt.
My forehead is swollen too, but it's hard to see all the swelling in the photo.

dlfk202000 wrote: Β»another one with insomnia last night(not as bad as Annie's though).
My usual treatment for it is a long shower and my Hylands biochemic phoshate- BUT, I had just put a new bandage on right before bed and doctor said to not take the pills- not knowing exactly what was in them, just to be safe(I had the bottle with me and I showed him). So, I was up at 1AM making hot chocolate. It helped and I fell asleep not long after, then woke up when son was leaving for work at 5:30, 6:30 when my alarm went off on accident(forgot to turn off the one from last Tuesday), then dh was up at 7 to get a shower and go to his mom's.
Have my daycare girl this afternoon- first time in over a week. Have her tomorrow too then taking a few days off. Will see how I am feeling by the beginning of next week if I have them bring her over or not.
Getting last minute stuff done- need to move some things around so I will have room for my laptop next to the recliner-have to get to the plug to plug it in which is the hardest part. The plug is behind the couch.
Need to get my treats ready for my zumba friends. One of them is coming by tomorrow to pick them up for me. Need to get the ones ready for the neighbors and drop them off tomorrow.
Get half dozen little craft projects set up for Ezie
A last load of laundry done with my new pj pants.
Hopefully make it to the store to pick up a few snacks for me tomorrow afternoon. Concentrating on getting stuff done so I don't think about the actual surgery/recoup time. I plan on taking it super easy the first few days- let the guys help me for a change.

Did you get a neck pillow ... one or more of those is well worth it!
I have 3. I've already discovered one is better for reading than sleeping.
I also have a cushion to go under my knees for all the sleeping on my back.
It's good to be comfortable.

I painted a snowdrop.
DH painted a very nice beach and rocks scene.
We didn't use our cruise paints in case Bea messed them up, but we managed OK.

Katla,I'm happy to hear that you have a knitting project. That will fill time when you cannot be with your husband. The blanket I am knitting for my great granddaughter is pink and purple. I am about a third of the way through. Is the blanket you are knitting for the place where your husband is?
Allie, Maybe this is a good day for you to stay home and rest.
Heather great painting.
Sue, a purple blanket sounds delightful
Machka, You've had quite an ordeal. I know you will take good care of yourself as you heal.

My friend G has come down with covid. It's her 3rd time! She's not feeling too bad, just under the weather. She caught it from a friend she stayed with last Thursday/Friday.
Bea watching PokΓ©mon films on TV.
Hope my son won't be too late. I could do with a nap! I've prepped dinner, which is a cauliflower/veg frittata.
All is good, if a little chilly.

Heather beautiful paintings! I remember as a child my parents treated everything I made as trash. You are so wonderful to your grandchildren!
I have very little on my schedule today. Maybe wrap some presents and walk a bit. My shoulder hurts, so maybe some heat or ice. And a book to read.

Machka ... glad your surgery is behind you and you can now rest and heal!
Debbie ... praying that your surgery will be uneventful as well ...
Rebecca ... so glad you're on the mend. My husband was diagnosed Type 2 Diabetes this past summer and with diet changes alone he has brought his numbers way down and lost quite a bit of weight... but he's had to give up his beloved ice cream. We started with small changes ...
Annie ... I still love old-fashioned chivalry (because it doesn't go out of style) and would have hoped the date would've at least asked if you wanted to be escorted to your car. My husband was great at that kind of thing when we were dating years and years ago. Today, he just forgets. And then my son gives him the devil for forgetting! I am always tickled when young men today hold the door open for me when I'm shopping ... the gray hair has some advantages.
Barbara ... that Joe! He's proof that we're all works in progress ...
Christmas cards are mailed, all the decorations I feel like bringing out are on display, tree is up. Pretty much done with shopping. We have a wedding to attend on Saturday and then a surprise birthday party for a dear friend on Sunday. My mother has asked for stuffed cabbage for Christmas dinner and there's not much to that. I'll do a little baking closer to Christmas (otherwise everything will be eaten before the holiday). Probably going to make more of Rebecca's peanut brittle and give a go at Lisa's cowboy cookies. I have a new recipe for a chocolate coated raspberry candy ... I'll let you know how that goes.
Thinking about those not feeling well and those who are in the way of bad weather! Stay warm and safe.
Beth near Buffalo
