Rori--Sending hugs and prayers. I am going to the Mannheim Streamroller concert this evening with a friend. She got tickets for and her sister and her sister passed away so she ask me to go. Looking forward to it.
Lisa--Hugs and hugs. Our 13 year old DGD took a pad of post it notes and wrote I love you and hearts on several in the pad. So every once in a while when I use one the next one will have her writing on it. Didn't know she had done it until we found the first one. Makes my heart smile.
Winter storm coming in this afternoon and tomorrow. Wind chills down to -50 below. So not sure if they will have the concert tonight or not.
Problem person at work has been extra nasty so have another talk this afternoon. I am so over this mess. Then DYS and his wife were over last night and sounds like they are talking divorce. This happens every some many months and last night I just told them both to go for it and ruin the DGC Christmas. I am so over it, they both need to grown up. It's mostly about money and then a women DS has been talking to on FB. If I could just slap him I would feel better. He knows I am not happy. Thanks for listening.
Blessings, Vicki GRAND ISLAND, NE13 -

Sounds like the holiday blues are hitting people everywhere. Did you know that the holiday seasons bring about the most suicides? Sad thought because it is supposed to be the happiest time of the year. Seems there is so much expected of everyone during this time of year, some people can’t handle it at all. I’m not suicidal but the holiday blues have got me in their hands again this year. Happens to me every year since I was a child. Never felt ‘natural’ at holidays (except when my kids were small). Always felt like thing were expected of me that I didn’t really feel, so ‘forced’ holiday cheer by decorating, etc., but no parties. This year is the same.
Glad for all the healing, and Katla being near your husband. There is some good things happening this season!

Kevrit - I recommend We Can Do Hard Things podcast, episode 'How to Let Go of Perfection this Holiday'.
What if you are the gift. Just as you are.
(Tomorrow they have a follow up with listeners' contributions. )
It made me cry.
You are a beautiful person who doesn't have to pretend to be anybody. Be yourself and allow others the space to be themselves. (But remove yourself from harm)

I am done with this cold icy weather in WA which is supposed to have moderate temps this time of year and definitely not snow that lasts for weeks instead of a day or two. I might as well have stayed in SD. At least they have snow plows and know how to sand and salt the roads. I missed a concert because of weather, water exercise has been cancelled to day and the choir party postponed for tonight. Yuck!! OK enough complaining. The weather weasels were wrong again and DD was able to make it into work today. The wifi is up and running again in the rental cabin. Those are good things.
Vicki - hope you get to see Mannheim Steamroller, they are fantastic.
Katla - glad you are finally closer to your DH.
Pip - love Santa Yogi.

Sue in WA - It's sunny, chilly, and 32F here at my house. No snow - a surprise since the weatherman was saying inches forecast for here a couple days ago. They seem pretty confident about freezing rain tomorrow night and into Friday morning.
Kim and Barbara - How did you fare with the earthquakes? Feel anything? News guys reminded us again this morning that our area is way past due.
Tracey - I see Edmonton had -30 F last night with a high of -15F predicted for today. That 32F at my house seems balmy! How are you faring?
Barbie - your walk in the snow was a fine workout!
Not a lot going on, nose stuck in books these days.
All is good here.

Nothing special, just work. I was a nice guy and volunteered to come in tomorrow and they said I should.
Did I ever get a pleasant surprise. The guy who we talked to about the drain actually showed up to do it. A few days ago he texted me wondering if he can do the excavation at the same time as the drain. I just said that since this isn’t the time to plant grass, I’m afraid of erosion. Finally, I said “why don’t we just do both in April” But he showed up today to do the drain!
The guy from the roofing company is supposed to be here today to pick up the insurance check.
My sinuses are really acting up. Took a Sudafed in the night, now another one. I’m also feeling a bit congested, not sure if it’s because of the sinuses or not. I can’t say that this is the reason, but yesterday Jerry sneezed three times in my car. I know that he doesn’t take particularly good care of his health. That’s probably because he doesn’t have insurance to go to the doctor or hospital. He had a cold and although it’s better, I still have doubts that it’s all gone. Actually, I took a can of disinfectant and sprayed the car this a.m. and again after I took him home. I really don’t want to get sick for christmas
For me, this has been the least stressful Christmas ever. Probably because we finally didn’t buy a lot of presents. Vince is the one who always thought we should get a lot for people. Also, I’m not hosting christmas so all I have to do is make the desserts (in the freezer), the pierogi (in the freezer) and the mac and cheese (I’ll do that tomorrow). All the presents are wrapped.
Have yogurt in the IP, I’ll drain it tonight. Newcomer bowling tonight
Vicki – have fun at the concert!
Rebecca – poor Athena
Sue WA – you sound like me. I DID NOT move to NC to be this cold. Actually, I’m feeling colder than normal. I do think I’m fighting off something, just not sure what it is. Feels like sinuses
Off to bowling

To quote Penny from near the North Pole, "There is no bad weather, only the wrong clothing". The temperature here has now dropped to 21 which is nothing like what Tracey has in Alberta but is cold for us. I have lots of layers of excellent clothing and boots with YakTrax for traction in the snow. I was toasty warm walking for two hours this morning before dawn and an hour at noon. In the house I wear layers including a wool sweater , two wool scarves, and two knitted hats. I have a wool crocheted blanket for my lap when I sit down. Bessie has a jacket and she doesn't stay out any less in the cold than in warmer weather. Before we moved here, I spent two weeks up here at the end of December so I knew about how cold and dark it would be and loved the idea. I don't think we'll ever move again, but if we did, we would go farther north into Canada.
We decided not to shovel the driveway so Jake drove the car out to the street and then back into the garage to make some flat spots to allow pulling the garbage and recycling cans to the curb for pick up today. The roads were plowed early yesterday morning and even with overnight snow, there are in good condition.
We usually pick up groceries on Sunday morning but the store will be closed so we have to remember to schedule it for Saturday morning instead.

Regarding expectations ... Christmas (meaning about 2-3 weeks surrounding Christmas) is the time of my year with the fewest expectations.
The rest of my year is packed solid with expectations. There is always work with heaps of expectations, of course. On and off there has been university and other educational pursuits with their expectations. More recently, there have been all sorts of expectations surrounding my husband's situation.
But when Christmas comes, everyone leaves me alone. The expectations and deadlines and things vanish. I think it's the time of year when I come closest to relaxing.
If an expectation should try to pop up during the Christmas season, I can squelch it with, "It's Christmas. Nothing gets done during Christmas. We'll deal with that in the new year."
I go through a bit of a slump in January when it all starts up again.

Gratitude:
1 What is something that makes you laugh? Robin Williams movies.
2 Something about the current season you’re grateful for: Very grateful for the cool fall weather and the lovely rains.
3 What about your body do you love/are you grateful for? I am grateful for my hair. It's a pretty color and has body/wave. I never have to fuss with it.
4 Who is someone in your life that you’re grateful for? I am incredibly grateful for the assistant marketing manager Stephanie at our retirement community, who is skillfully navigating us through the portal into our retirement community. Among other things, she tactfully negotiated to return the larger storage space that originally came with our apartment (it had been commandeered, lol), assigned us a prime parking space near the elevator in the parking garage, gave us a grace period before we have to start daily "check ins", took charge of a delivery of large awkward boxes in our absence, delivering them into our apartment with care, spontaneously recruited us to join into a trivia game that was already underway, and numerous other little thoughtful gestures. Plus she is super responsive to emails.
5 What is a book that changed your life? To Kill a Mockingbird
6 Think about something you’re good at: I'm good at packing a box with random items (like a puzzle).
7 What is a lesson you’re grateful you learned? I am still learning this lesson. Do not talk at/overwhelm my younger brother with too much information or too many questions. He is vulnerable and becomes anxious and ultimately angry - because he feels inadequate, which makes him resentful.
8 A basic need that has been met: Basic needs: food, water, clothing, sleep, and shelter. All have been met with the possible exception of adequate sleep.
9 What are you most grateful for in the city/town where you live? Oh my gosh, there are so many great things about this neck of the woods. However, picking just one: I have a terrific network of friends and access to limitless resources in and around Richmond, VA where I live. So I would have to say "the people who live here".
10 What rejection in your life are you most grateful for? I am grateful for being rejected by my friend Liz in graduate school. We started out by ride-sharing to school and quickly became fast friends. Liz rejected my friendship when I betrayed a confidence involving another classmate Susan. I said something to Susan that tipped her off that Liz had revealed to me something personal about Susan that she had told Liz in confidence. Susan felt betrayed by Liz, and Liz felt betrayed by me. It was a life's lesson that I should have learned at a much younger age, but I learned it well and painfully this time, and paid dearly for it by losing Liz as a friend. It was excruciating. I apologized, but the damage had been done.
11 Something you use every day: I use my hot water kettle every day and I am consciously grateful for it every time I use it. I think, what a great little hot water kettle this is! every day, lol

12 Something you don’t need anymore.: I no longer need my beloved John Deere lawn tractor. Time to dispose of it.
13 Refuge – space you love in your home: In my new home (apartment), I love my very own room. It has things I love in it and is a calm oasis.
14 Item of clothing: I have a navy blue with white polka dots dress I love. Sometimes I wear red Danskins with it. And a string of fake pearls.
15 Taste: Comice pears with brie and Riesling
16 Touch: Casper the Cat's dense white fur (just a memory now)
17 Smell: Lily of the Valley
18 Sound: Snoring doggies
19 Sight: Nebraska sunrises and sunsets.
[/spoiler]
20 Texture: Silk
21 Color: Coke Bottle Sea Glass22 A song that makes you happy: Scott Joplin - Maple Leaf Rag https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pMAtL7n_-rc

I was planning to do some HIIT after work, but Hamrick's has the shoes I like on sale. I need a new pair for work. Now I hope they have the style I like. Vince is someone who waits until the last minute to do anything. Now he wants to start packing the car, we have to prebowl because he didn't want to do it Tuesday, now he wants to stop at the bank, I need more Sudafed so it looks like we'll be stopping at WalMart. I guess I'll make the mac &: cheese in the evening. So maybe Fri morning before he gets up I can get to the gym. It's so cold that I doubt I'll be going for a walk at Jess'

Another quick check in-
Feeling a little better tonight- I am pretty sure it is the antibiotics that are making me feel so sick.
Pain is not too bad- switched from Norco to just Tylanol.
I can feel it when I do too much- like little needles jabbing me- quick way to make me stop right away.
Not sure what I am going to do for Christmas. Will depend on how I am feeling.
I may have my son drive me up to see my mom for a couple hours but not feeling that right now. Or, I will just stay at home while dh goes to his mom's in the morning and evening like he does every day.
Mom said we can do Christmas in a few weeks. When I am feeling back to normal. This will be my first without being with her and she will just have one of my cousins with her. I feel bad not going up there but also not sure how much I would enjoy it- still can't do much to help and it would be just as much time driving as how long we would be there to visit.
Going to go lay back down. Needles in the nose again.
Have my first post-op appointment on Friday. Hoping to get stitches out or at least new bandages.
