I would not wish it on anyone. It was a nasty unpleasant interlude that I hope I never repeat.
My DED rang in a panic at just after 2pm. Our DYGS was due to fly into Belfast at 3.55pm for Christmas break and her husband had just tested positive. She doesn’t drive. DH came to the rescue and
picked DGS up and delivered him home.

Once again I think I am done with my Christmas errands except for baking banana bread Christmas morning, and baking a cake for my parents anniversary tomorrow. They have sixty-six happy years!
And I got a lottery ticket for myself. Yay!
So things are going well. I have leftover pork loin with barbecue sauce planned for my parents dinner. Then I should be doing dumbbells but my shoulder is still troublesome. I only feel it when I get groceries. And when I sleep on it. So not too bad.

Hi, I will be 55 this spring. Doctor’s want me to lose weight. I went up to 250lbs. Lost 32.5 lbs. Fitness Pal only shows what my weight was when I started a little lighter. All my Doc’s want me to do weight loss surgery, but I’m still on the fence about it. Anyone else in the same boat?4

Machka and Debbie: Good to see you healing. Love the Bingo cards, M.
Heather: I am thinking of your friend L as she crosses the one year mark of grieving.
Same thoughts to Ginny and Jeannie.
KJ: You got this, and those kids are among the luckiest on the planet to have you in their lives. I think I want to try a version of Oh Sticky Tree with adults....hmmmm.
Rosemarie: Hope you and your DH have many more good mornings.
It's my second Christmas without DH and DB. I have cut waaaaay, waaaaay down with the making of meals and treats, but still find myself with some knee buckling nostalgic moments Decorated only to the extent to satisfy my need for a creative outlet including interior illumination of a certain cat tree. I ended the week having worked 5 shifts in 4 days, and really felt it yesterday. Got my regularly scheduled facial, came home for lunch, then fell asleep by 6PM. Today I slept in, skipped the gym, puttered in the kitchen making candied pecans and Rebecca's peanut brittle. Got the laundry done, but still need to take a shower and drop a couple boxes to the Post Office. My housemate leaves early Wed. to visit his parents for a week, so my quiet house will be even quieter. Just as well as I have myself scheduled to usher at Nut-Nugget events (Nutcracker Ballet and Nuggets Basketball). It's kinda awesome.
Stay well friends. We can do this.

I feel flattered to have it called Rebecca's Peanut brittle!🤗💖. Glad you do the facials, I plan on weekly sauna treatments once my surgery spots heal up a bit more. I have no pain and it feels so amazing! You always awe me with your strength of character and perseverance! Hugs friend!

Karen in VA - People like that always leave me wondering what they would accomplish if they simply used all that rotten energy for good. I swear, the bad guys work harder to steal from people than if they just got into a real job that paid more. And defrauding folks like your brother should incur much more jail time than most crimes. Without you speaking up she might never have been caught. I'm glad you're pursuing these issues, both for your brother's sake and because you're probably saving others from her machinations.
Heather - Just here peering over your shoulder to see how far you get today on the book.
Re: Shingles - I've had every vaccination there is. I get cranky about the VA, but they are really good on the vaccine side. Every time I have an appointment for anything, they review my records and offer the flu shot or whatever I should have, and then I have the choice.
My house has echoes of laughter in every corner... and a few tears still from me. My daughter was pretty broken up when they left, kept circling back around for hugs from me and from her dad, and shedding many tears. We're her home, and even though she hasn't lived with us in 13 years, we will always be her home. Military housing is never home, it's just where you sleep. But in 70 days, they'll be heading for Hawaii for at least four years, and no telling when we'll see her. Traveling is still a hard no for me, but I know me, and I know I'll start jonesing for my family at about the six-month mark.
Occasionally I still marvel at this extraordinary life. I was infertile, but I have a daughter and a son and grandchildren. I was a neglected wife, but now I live with a man who loves me without measure and proves that over and over again. I look into a future that I never knew was even possible, and breathe in every molecule of joy around me now, because I know how bad life can get. I don't know anymore if I "deserve" to have these things in my life--but I am ever grateful for the opportunity to have them all.
I'll go now, I'm getting tears on my keyboard.
Love y'all,

Worked but got to the gym to do a body pump DVD then the Salvation Army. Then to WalMart to get Vince bananas. Now home, I thought we were going prebowling for next Monday but Vince wants to go Thurs. I texted the latest guy who said he’d do the drain and the excavating saying “why don’t we wait until April when we can do it all?” He wanted to do the drain and excavating now. But this isn’t the time to plan grass seed so that we don’t have erosion. I know what ground cover I want for the hill on the side, I’m just not sure if I get it thru him or not.
Allie – hope you find something that works for you for the pain
Carol – have fun at your lunch. Old friends are THE BEST
Anne DE – happy anniversary to your parents. 66 years!
Highmtnlady – welcome! Yes, there are gals on this site who have had the surgery
I’m feeling chilly, tired, think I’ll put on my PJ’s and go to bed.

Big day for me today.
I went back into town (by bus, of course -- can't see to drive) to have my stitches out of my nose. Got half of them removed. The decision was made to leave the other half in till Friday to let a bit more healing take place. My hip stitches will come out next week, I hope.
Then we ran errands - bus card top up, lottery tickets, lunch, banking, dropping form off at my new GP's, and a bit of shopping.
When we got on the bus for the final leg of the journey home, I realised I had overdone it. I was exhausted and in pain.
I'm at home now with painkillers going to work in me, while I sit in my comfy chair, listening to Christmas music and cooling off in the air conditioning.
One of the things I picked up was a sleeveless T-shirt nightgown for the hot nights. I'm finding I'm roasting at night.
I do miss being able to walk all over the place with the greatest of ease and all this sitting around to heal hasn't done my weight any good. I've put on about 1.5 kg!! Fortunately, I think I might be able to do a bit more walking now ... ease into it.
Machka in Oz6 -
I'll get a little bit more walking in because I've got to make the trip to town with regard to my stitches on Friday and next Wednesday.

My annual Christmas free-floating anxiety returned last night and kept me awake for around two and a half hours. I can remember when this started, when I was 16. It was an OCD thing , having to be in control and making it perfect. I was rushing to finish sewing a dress I wanted to wear on Christmas Day, and I finished it at midnight on Christmas Eve! I also took on doing all the decorations and was very worried because my mother left a lot of the food buying until Christmas Eve. I went with her to buy the stuff and was afraid the shops would have run out. They hadn't! Why i felt responsible is another story, but I had severe OCD for some of my childhood.
I've opted out of everything I can this Christmas, but the feelings seem to be on auto-loop! I have absolutely nothing to be worrying about.
I'm sure it's just a blip. I had one similar night last week, and I was fine again. If helps to be able to identify the cause, instead of just this vague buzzing hyper state.
Might have been triggered by my friend G's ineptitude over the canapés! I felt responsible for making sure she got it right! Then I opened a gift from my brother and his wife, which they told me to open before Christmas, and it was a Gingerbread House kit. That triggered me in several ways!
I also dreamt of my ex husband and an ex lover. Go figure.
Thanks for listening! It helps hugely.
Much love, Heather UK xxxxxxxx10 -
I've never had a desire to create the perfect Christmas. I think one of the reasons might be that I "celebrate" from about December 1 to about mid-January with decorations, music, favourite seasonal foods, events, movies, etc. liberally sprinkled with time off, sleep, reading and exercise.
Plus, because of my "perpetual student" classification, December is often the month for assignments coming due, exams, and a whole lot of work before a much needed rest. Thus my focus is often elsewhere and anything Christmassy is for relaxation ... such as listening to Christmas music.
A perfect Christmas moment is when all the lights in the house are off except for the Christmas lights, and Silent Night is playing.
Lately I have been having recurring dreams of my randonneuring/Audax days ... my ultra-distance cycling days.
I'm on a 400 kilometre ride or longer, it's usually the middle of the night or getting on for evening. I've stopped at a control to get something to eat, but there isn't much, and I'm trying to organise my cycling clothes for the cold of the night, but for some reason it is taking forever and precious time is ticking away.
About then, I wake up.
I have these dreams every few months and have had since the peak of my randonneuring/Audax days, but this month, I've had these dreams every few nights.
Hmmm ... not quite sure what this is about.
Back in the day ...

If you're interested in the Action for Happiness Calendar ...
Do Good December
This month, we're encouraging you to carry out small acts of kindness.
Or we could post something we're thankful for, or happy about, related to the holiday season.
December 1 - I love the Christmas music. Come December 1, that's almost all I play. Christmas music or classical music (when I have to think at work or when we're in the car).
December 2 - Christmas decorations! We're lagging behind a bit because I usually like to decorate on December 1. But we got the decorations upstairs on Dec 2. Today I'll rearrange furniture and make a start.
December 3 - Summer. My favourite season. And we are finally having a few days of decent weather after a very wild and woolly spring. That's not saying the good weather will last (thanks La Nina) but there should be more of it.
December 4 - Memories. So many of the Christmas songs and traditions remind me of my parents and grandparents and happy Christmases with them.
December 5 - Christmas Displays. I like how many of the shops have Christmas Displays, and some are quite detailed and intricate.
December 6 - Greetings. People smiling and wishing each other Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays.
December 7 - Shortbread. So much delicious shortbread!
December 8 - Family. Christmas seems to bring us together a bit more.
December 8 - Trees. All over the world, millions of people are putting up trees in their houses and work places and decorating them.
December 9 - Sparkly Things. I love how everything becomes sparkly at this time of year.
December 10 - Yummy Things. Mince tarts and cookies. Fudge. Special Chocolates. All sorts of nibbles that only come out at this time of year.
December 11 - Colours. Reds and greens and a few other combinations out everywhere.
December 12 - Christmas Stories. Twas the Night Before Christmas. A Christmas Carol. Jesus Birth.
December 13 - Wrapping things up, and I don't just mean presents.
December 14 - The Christmas songs i know by heart. I sang them to myself during my surgery to help keep me calm and focusing on something else.
December 15 - Rest. Except for one Christmas, I think I have had a holiday time over every other Christmas. Today I'm on enforced rest.
December 16 - Comfort. Christmas is usually a comfortable time of year for me. In Canada it was about going out in the cold to shop or ski and then coming home and curling up in warm, cozy clothes. Here it's about spending time in the warm sunshine, at the beach, in the garden or right now, looking at the lovely outside from inside.
December 17 - Joy. Christmas has usually been a joyful time for me ... probably mainly to do with being able to take a break.
December 18 - Pretty. It's such a pretty time of year and people seem to go to lengths to make everything pretty.
December 19 - Movies. Last night we watched 2 Christmas movies. I get a kick out of them and can just relax and enjoy them. I've got 3 of the ones on the Bingo card below.
December 20 - Home ... or away. Either way, Christmas is a time to be somewhere I feel comfortable.
December 21 - Fun. I usually relax a bit more around Christmas and make a point of doing things for fun!
Just saw your post, Barbara ...Aha, finally found a December daily gratitude calendar.
https://www.spacewiseorganizing.com/december-gratitude-challenge/
“This time of year, there’s a lot of pressure to think about what we want instead of what we have. Every day for the month of December, celebrate what you’re grateful for corresponding to the theme of the day. Snap a photo or update your status on IG or FB with #spaceforgratitude”
1 What is something that makes you laugh? Rhody! We're so very glad we got our little COVID Cat!
2 Something about the current season you’re grateful for. Rest. There will be a lot of rest over Christmas.
3 What about your body do you love/are you grateful for? I like my nose and want to keep it. But my official answer will be legs - for transport (walking) and recreation (cycling).
4 Who is someone in your life that you’re grateful for? I've said husband and parents last month, and that's true, but this month I'll say ... my manager. She has been supportive and encouraging regarding my input into my job.
5 What is a book that changed your life? The Bible. With the Christmas season in mind, I'm reading the gospel of Luke now.
6 Think about something you’re good at. I think I'm good at planning and organisation.
7 What is a lesson you’re grateful you learned? To speak up. To say my piece.
When I was young, up till about 17-ish, I was quiet and shy. Then I went through a bolder phase from about 17 into my early 20s. Then the quiet shyness resumed for the most part until my husband's accident. And then the bold me reappeared!
Where I once guessed what people might be thinking and thought my answers, now I'm vocal and even told I'm quite blunt.
8 A basic need that has been met. Shelter. I'm very thankful for our particular shelter.
9 What are you most grateful for in the city/town where you live? The proximity to both mountains and beaches.
10 What rejection in your life are you most grateful for? Oh that's an interesting question. Either there haven't been many or I don't remember them but I'm drawing a blank. Although ... about 18 months or so ago, I didn't get a job I was going for and thought I wanted. I think I prefer the one I have now. I think it is providing me with more opportunities for experience and learning.
11 Something you use every day. A coffee cup to hold my morning coffee.
12 Something you don’t need anymore. What don't I need anymore? Perhaps some of the time consuming traditions like writing the Christmas letter, doing Christmas cards, heaps of baking ...
And outside of Christmas, I'm making choices that work for me. Picking and choosing what I want to do ... and don't want to do. I'm grateful I can make a few more of those choices.
13 Refuge – space you love in your home - my chair. I bought a wing chair about a year or so ago and it's my spot.
14 Item of clothing - rain jacket. Because it appears that it isn't going to stop raining! Also comfy pjs.
15 Taste - I am grateful that I still have a sense of taste. That was one thing my husband lost with his brain injury.
16 Touch - I'm glad for my smooth, comfortable bed where I've been spending a lot of time.
17 Smell - Love the smell of our roses.
18 Sound - Thoroughly enjoying the sound of the Christmas music I play all day long.
19 Sight - I'm appreciating sight after spending the last 5 days without glasses!! I can wear my glasses for a little while now but have to take a break after even just a minute or so.
20 Texture - the smooth creamy texture of chocolates, the melt in the mouth texture of shortbread.
21 Color - All sorts of Christmas colours!!22 A song that makes you happy.
23 Type of weather you love.
24 Professional who helps you.
25 Something you take for granted.
26 A TV show that you look forward to watching.
27 A movie you watch over and over.
28 An opportunity you’re grateful you had.
29 A place you love to visit.
30 A tool you find incredibly useful.
31 A daily habit you’re happy you’ve cultivated.

I listened to two podcasts this morning, before and after my 'writing ' session. Both of them were amazingly apposite to my neuroses. The second one actually brought tears to my eyes.
1. The neuroses were there once upon a time to protect you so that you could live your life. It was a positive thing so you were not overwhelmed. You are not defective. Appreciate what it did for you back then, and know you can thank it and leave it behind.
2. What if we didn't need to struggle to make it all perfect and control everything. What if it wasn't about getting all the things right for others, what if you are the thing? Give the gift of yourself, your total self, and let others be their total selves.
So, what if you are the gift, the thing that you can offer to others?
Love Heather UK xxxxxxxx feeling loads better in the UK XOXO
