How wonderful that you got to chat with your son, Rebecca. And yeah... you're beautiful. Oh my, Rebecca! Well, well, well, a new grandbaby... WOOHOO! Is Athena excited?
Annie, I think that's the way with most of the people closest to those with dementia/Alzheimer's. This miss the decline until it's almost too late. They make adjustments in their day or their lives and they almost don't even notice that they're doing it. Freddy's dad did that for his mom. I think some he knew he was doing, but some he just did.
Awe, Tracey, that evening together sounds just lovely. I'm glad you had the time together.
12-Make a list for the week ahead so you can stay focused... a real list, that I have to stick to?!? Oh geez. Okay, I'll try! LOL

I am looking forward to watching the SuperBowl because my horse crazy grandson and I both want to see the Budweiser Clydesdales. ❤️ ⭐️ ❤️ ⭐️ ❤️

Word of the year: APPRECIATE; today I appreciate heat.#2 Practice fairness today by putting yourself in someone else’s shoes: I did this with a camper who I received complaints about. I put myself in his shoes when speaking with him. He was a very lonely man who only had his dogs (one barking, one loose) and the people he meets at campgrounds. Made me more compassionate when talking to him about the dogs.#10. Check an item off your to-do list this weekend. Working on my taxes.
#3 Watch a movie that reminds you of kindness. I watched the Adam Project.
#4 Take a picture of 3 things that make you happy. Send them to a friend. Done!
#5 Be kind to yourself. Self-compassion is equally important. Will do today.
#6 Start a conversation with someone new. I do this every day with the campers!
#7 Consider a current struggle. Write down 2 thoughts that give you comfort. My dog Brownie’s heart trouble. Her spells are getting worse and there is nothing the vet can do. Comforting thoughts—She lived a good life with us. She brought us many days of comfort and enjoyment with her loving attitude.
#8. Consider and celebrate diversity today. I am a white girl living among darker Mexicans and native Americans. Campers come from around the world and love to hear the accents and learn about the different cultures i come into contact with. Do this every day!
#9. Identify a role model who embodies perseverance. Can you find two ways to emulate them? My 30 year old autistic nephew. He never gives up no matter what health challenge he faces. I can emulate him by not complaining about every little ache and pain, and by doing what needs to be done to get through any health issues that may come up.
#11. Make twice as much for dinner and either invite guests or deliver the meal to a friend. We give food to people all the time. My DH cooks and we give food to different campers and workers here at the park almost every day!
#12. Make a list for the week ahead so you stay focused. In process!#13. Consider a recent disagreement. Did you extend forgiveness?
#14. Express creativity by making art or cooking a new meal.
#15. If you are waiting in line today, let someone get in front of you.
#16. The next time someone does something you appreciate, be sure to let them know.
#17. Offer a helping hand to someone, such as holding a door for a stranger.
#18. Share about a recent book you read and what you learned.
#19. Show sincere appreciation when someone serves you food or drink.
#20. Complement someone today. Ideas include recognizing a great smile or earrings.
#21. When you recognize someone is struggling, offer words of support.
#22. Ask for help. That’s a simple way to express bravery.
#23. Encourage your teammates to utilize their unique strengths.
#24. Reflect on the steps you have taken to achieve your past goals.
#25. Express gratitude today by thanking someone.
#26. Think about the upcoming work week. How can you apply teamwork?
#27. Send or leave a handwritten thank you note to someone.
#28. Giving constructive feedback is one way to ignite honesty.

Rebecca- I noticed a week or so ago, you said you had news you couldn’t share yet. I’ve been waiting to see if it was going to be another grandchild. Congratulations!
Heather - I think anyone that visits you for a meal or a night leave feeling pampered.
I hope Johnny is feeling better. The symptoms should be watched closely. That is sometimes how heart attacks present, it was that way for my Grandfather.
Machka - I enjoy Nora’s books that are not in trilogy’s as well. Which one did you get?
Margaret - what a beautiful picture. Love the lupine.
Beth - when we were home we dug through old photos for a slide show. We found an app called Photomyne
What it does for old photos is remarkable. It is a subscription that we chose not to pay for at the time but will be soon to go through some photos here.
The top photo is an original of my FIL and husband and the second is how the app fixed it.
Katla - we don’t get to see the wonderful commercials in the Super Bowl that you do in the States. I wish we did.
Tracey in Edmonton9 -
Tracey- I am going to show dh that site- that is amazing.
I bought two machines- one to transfer 8mm to sd card and the other is to transfer slides. I have all of my grandmother's slides. I went through most of the slides but got frustrated with the movies and never did anything with them. I need to get back and try again. I am hoping one of the unmarked movies is of the firefalls in Yosemite. I remember seeing them in real life and also watching the home movie at my grandparents house.

Feeling antsy today. Not sure why. But it may be the meds I’m taking. My psych doubled the dosage last week so may be that. I’ll have to wait a bit and see if it subsides or gets worse, then lower my dose if necessary.
I’ve been doing my arm weights 2 days a week and using 3 pound weights with 3 sets, but even so, my right elbow, on which I had tennis elbow surgery, is bothering me to the point that it is difficult to pick up a coffee cup! Can’t have that. I will look for my support and start using that for a few days so it can heal and get used to the weights again. Might not work because it is related to tendons, not muscles. I will adjust this as necessary too. The 2 pound weights at 40 reps didn’t bother me so I think I can adjust.
Here is my to-do list for the coming week- every day camping duties dealing with campers as needed, sweep as needed.
Sunday—MFP during breakfast, dishes, walk 7,000 steps, meditate 10 minutes, yoga 10 minutes, call Mom, text kids, finish taxes. Update budget
Monday—-MFP during breakfast, dishes, walk 7,000 steps, meditate 10 minutes, yoga 10 minutes, go too town to PO and grocery for necessities.
Tuesday—-MFP during breakfast, dishes, walk 7,000 steps, meditate 10 minutes, yoga 10 minutes, arm weights 30 reps.
Wednesday—-MFP during breakfast, dishes, walk 7,000 steps, meditate 10 minutes, yoga 10 minutes, Call mom for her birthday, wash clothes
Thursday—-MFP during breakfast, dishes, walk 7,000 steps, meditate 10 minutes, yoga 10 minutes, arm weights 30 reps
Friday—-MFP during breakfast, dishes, walk 7,000 steps, meditate 10 minutes, yoga 10 minutes, Doctor at 10:30 for physical, PO, other errands.
Saturday—-MFP during breakfast, dishes, walk 7,000 steps, meditate 10 minutes, yoga 10 minutes,

Many congratulations!
Another quiet day today. I slept well last night, thank goodness. Must wrap the Valentines Day presents and find an envelope for the card I made.
DDIL and the grandchildren are going to their other grandparents tomorrow for a few days of half-term. We are having the girls on Thursday morning while the others go to the dentist. Then having Max for Friday. I think I will let DH and Max have a 1 to 1 for lunch, maybe at the fish restaurant, so I can get organised for my DSIL's and boyfriend's visit next weekend. I'm only catering breakfast and lunches, but there's a bit of bed linen changing and general sprucing up to be done as the cleaner won't have been for nearly two weeks!
I have to check with them their arrival and departure times and book the Persian restaurant. Keep meaning to and keep forgetting! I might make some soup for one of the lunches. He is vegetarian.
I'm intending to use my new bowls for olives and crisps when we have drinks before the restaurant. I had them in mind when I made the bowls, as I know she likes a few 'nibbles'.
I always enjoy their company. It's good for me to stretch my routine. Knackering, but worth it. Experts say it's good for the brain to go out of your comfort zone occasionally.
Love to all, Heather UK xxxxxxxx
Yes, she has been the center of their universe so it will be a shock to her system, most definitely. Do you know whenever she's in the living room the tv is always on a program of her choosing? Neither son nor daughter inlaw watch anything they wish to watch. I know I was tempted to watch a movie when I was visiting them but only did it when Athena was napping, and the kids were out shopping. They are the best parents though. I know my Mom used to give me grief because I was always down on the floor playing with the boys, and she was like, "do you ever stop"? I suppose once they started crawling I was less " floor mom". It will be interesting how they fit this new puzzle piece of a baby into their tight little family. I am excited to see it all unfold.💖👶

Tracey ~ That app did a fantastic job of fixing the photo. Your father in law was a handsome man.
We will not be watching the Super Bowl game. So, I will be looking for movies to watch.

Did a DVD by Michelle Dozois today. This is a new one for me (yes, Barbara, they do exist...lol). Just work tomorrow then senior bowling. Then we’ll probably pack the car
Katie – same weather here. Did a Leslie Sansone DVD today instead of taking my walk. I really prefer to walk outside, but weather didn’t permit it today.
I think I’m going to try ONCE AGAIN to give up eating after dinner for Lent. I’m actually trying it right now to see how hard it will be for me. I seem to be doing OK, so maybe I’ll succeed this year. The one thing is that at home I usually go to bed earlier since I get up early for work. Not sure if I’ll be getting to bed early in FL
Anne DE – what a great idea to have tea! Many times I do that when we’re in a restaurant. I may take a bite of Vince’s dessert (if it’s something I like) and have a cup of tea. A lot of restaurants (believe it or not) down here have only sweet tea. Yuk! So I keep some tea bags in my pocketbook.
Vince sent a box to Jess. In it he put all the birthday presents I had bought for her. I was going to wrap them, but didn’t have time. She called to say that they got the box and Colby was especially happy to see the potato masher….lol Well, he’s from Idaho. The only thing I need to do is buy her birthday card.
West Side Story is one of the few musicals Vince went to go see. I’m not crazy about musicals, either but enjoyed this one.
Vince found a box of photographs. The writing on the box is in his father’s so they’re probably all of his family. Next job is to convince Vince that we should get rid of any pictures that we have no idea who is in them and write on the back who is in them if we know. He likes to keep EVERYTHING and I’m someone who will get rid of things we don’t use or will never use. If I don’t know who someone is, will Jess? I doubt it
katla – I remember a while ago the Clydesdales were at Disney World and the kids saw them. The highlight of the trip was when the horse peed!
Carol – well, it’s good to know that we won’t be the only household not glued to the TV!
Michele NC4 -
Jean ... your poor kitty! The MGM lion had to be quite a shock! Lol!
Rebecca ... how exciting that your daughter-in-law is expecting again!
Bought a pound box of mixed chocolates from a local chocolatier for my mom. Shouldn't have been surprised that chocolate has risen in price, but it was still sticker shock for me. Bought a little bit for my guys too.
I've been bored with my own cooking so have been trying different recipes again. I found a woman online who provides a weekly menu plan with shopping lists etc. I thought I'd give it a try. While most of this week has been very good, last night's was an utter fail. Sigh.
Spent the rest of the day sorting through two large boxes of old photos from my parents' house. They are a mishmash as they had significant water damage in their basement years ago where they had been stored. So many of these are stuck together or curled and in no order whatsoever. A photo from 1931 was alongside my son's graduation picture and so on. I thought I could go through these, separate and send to appropriate family members without getting emotional, but I ended up having a crying jag later in the evening.
We are staying home from church one more Sunday as my husband still has a significant covid cough (my son and I are fine) and will watch online. Then just a lazy Sunday until the football game.

Yes I was so excited hearing their great news. She has morning sickness more than when she was pregnant with Athena, so this is a whole new experience.💖
Awe, I am so sorry your meal was a fail. I suppose they can't always be winners. When I cook for me, I tend to start meals with the same core. Chopped up sweet yellow onions, a pat of butter, cubed up white large mushrooms, a squirt of Italian seasonings and a squirt of garlic paste. Then I either fry up veggies, or chicken, rice, or pasta, or kielbasa sausage. Sometimes I boil up potatoes or raviolis. I add chicken stock to make it a soup, or spaghetti sauce to make it a goulash. I cook up large batches of taco meat, so I can easily make soft tacos, or taco salad. I make up the same core thing, add some taco meat and maybe if I have beans I will sprinkle some of those in as I warm up the meat. It makes the meat go further, especially when I add diced tomatoes and black olives to it as well. Lee just wants the taco meat, so I have to separate a bit when we are both having tacos.
I'm sorry your photo experience was complicated. I know there are services that can repair old photos so maybe on the damaged ones you want to keep, you can make a box for them? Don't look at it as 2 huge boxes, but take out a handful, delegate to specific folders of family members including what you wish to keep. Just an hours worth here and there. They are just photos, but realize they spark emotions, and that's ok. Hugs!

Well, making tea worked wonders! (To help me avoid eating too much meat.) That and having a plan for the leftovers: served tomorrow with egg noodles and gravy (for my parents, not me). I told my mom ahead of time that I was going to drink tea instead of eating so much meat, so she only asked me twice if I wanted more. The time waiting for my parents to finish eating passed very quickly. I will be eating back my exercise calories, so that's enough for a light dinner, and that makes a neutral deficit day. That's 300 calories better than last week! Yay!
I have mixed feelings about watching the Superbowl. I love seeing the long passes or the clever twisting runs. But I hate the violence of the short running plays. I can't follow the ball in the mess. I always feel like someone is going to get hurt. And the penalties are a mystery. So I watch a little then leave the room. And I will look up the commercials online after the game.
Yay Clydesdales! Go team!

Yes, he's just a great young adult. Things are approaching fast and his life might be upturned military speaking. He might not get the opportunity to complete and make retirement with 20 years, but he might make it to 18 years. He needs more sea duty, so he has been texting his retired Chief of a father regarding all that. I feel so bad for him, but he seems calm about it, maybe even relieved. He's only 33 yrs old so he's ready to dive into college, and into another career.
Yes! And miss Athena will turn so green like a cute gecko lizard!! I can just see it!😂😼👽

Rebecca if your son gets out with 18 years is there any pension? That time would count towards seniority ( vacation and pension) if he then went to work for the federal government. Hope he lands in a great career step.
Annie in Delaware2 -
Tracey-Welcome back. Hope you can get some rest now.
Allie-Glad you got good news.
Vicki-So sorry about your employee situation and sorry that you may miss your vacation!
Kay-Hugs. Congrats on the weight loss.
To others who need the hugs, I'm sending them your way. I'm a bit caught up in my own sorrow at the moment. I'm not sure how to deal with it, to be honest. Obviously, the method I chose was not correct.
He is very sensitive and if I try to talk to him about anything that he may be doing that bothers me, he pouts for days and essentially punishes me. That's why I hold it all in and then it boils over and we argue. The basic details are that we own a home that needs upkeep. If anything is to get done "chore-wise," I have to do it. He will comment and say how awful something looks or how something needs to be fixed, but does nothing about it. He waits until I do and then complains that it wasn't done right. Well, the home needs to be maintained and fixed. He just wants the money from when we sell it. Sadly, it just doesn't work that way.
I hired a tree company to remove and trim some trees. We've been talking about it for years. I arranged it, he knew. They didn't do it right, according to him. He wouldn't supervise them or give specific instructions to them or me, but chose to make me his defacto project manager and I didn't do it right. So that set off a firestorm.
I'm tired of arguing with him. Tired of being quiet. I'm just tired.
Another time, I actually spoke to a counselor about a situation. She was stumped at giving me advice on how to handle it.
Splitting up is not my preference, but changing the way I react is not working either.
So, what is typically a fun day for us (Donuts and Beer Day), is ruined. I scrubbed the tile in my shower, cleaned off a shelf in the garage, dumped the recycling, and did some laundry. I think I'll go for a run now.
Thanks for listening.

Machka: Enjoyed the pictures!
Ugh! I am in a quandry. The mobility device company is about to bill us $300.00 for six months on the 17th. We don't use this device anymore. This is the device that will call for for help if you fall. The trouble is it has extra, accessory pieces. Cheap, plastic pieces that we never used.
I had put these pieces in a freezer bag and put them in a banker's box. I need to return these pieces with the device. I think it is a scam. I am not sure they re-use these pieces. Anyway I have torn through the banker's boxes of stuff we have and the accessory pieces are a no show.
I am so angry I lost these pieces. I wonder how much they will charge me for them. And then I might have to pay the $300 if I don't have the main device returned down to FLA in time. I am exhausted and too tired to look for the pieces any further. I am tearing the house apart. Ugh...what a Sunday! I am fairly tense about it, but am relaxing as I type this out to you all!!
Hope you are all doing well!
Best,

Rebecca - congrats on the coming DGC. Hope the pregnancy goes smoothly.
Went to church this morning, sang in choir even though I missed practice on Wednesday. DD and I bought some seeds yesterday and are planning raised bed gardens for vegetables. Our potatoes did really well last year, carrots not so much and the slugs got all the peas. We had a late freeze last year and got no apples but hopefully we will get some this year. Blueberries are starting to bud too.would be nice if things warmed up a bit.

Nope. No retirement pay. He will get to attend college on the Navy's dime, and they get a housing allotment when they attend school. Plus there's lots of grants they can qualify for. But medical insurance, he can go to VA hospital but that's a headache to deal with, and he can't shop on base at the commissary or anything. It is a sad thing, but unless he makes 1st Class Petty Officer this year or next year, he's out early before his 20.

I got three kinds of the Christmas hard candy when I helped at the food program. They reminded mom and i of my grandma(her mom) She always had a bowl of that candy around. I got mini ribbon candy, filled hard candy and the "cut rock" candy. I am limiting myself to a few pieces at a time and just suck on them so they last. I am sure I am eating more than I should
