Good evening ladies!
(((Lisa)))
Today I ate 1203 calories which includes more chocolate than strictly necessary. And I did twenty minutes on the bike, thirty minutes of aerobic walking, and an hour of yoga. Yay! The final deficit was 376 Yay!
I tried skipping the backbends in the yoga and the sciatica was much better. Yay!
My laptop is still squirrelly. I had it working this morning, but there was another Windows update, and now it's even worse. So I will try again tomorrow. Maybe there will be new drivers available.

Big hugs to Lisa. I hope your new supporter can properly sort out your far-too-long problems. She sounds just what you need.
Waiting to see how DH is this morning. I did not sleep well and have been wide awake since 4 am. Did all sorts of relaxing meditations, but didn't get back to sleep. I have gone off the idea of going to Portsmouth, but feel bad about G, as she always comes here. So that is a decision to make shortly. DH did sleep, unlike me!
I am working on being kind and compassionate to myself for getting in a flurry. It's complicated by the teachers' strike and DDIL having to work at home. I think this podcast is well paid and they need the money. DH also has a much overdue dentist appointment later! All will be well.
I find myself berating myself for getting agitated, so I have to remind myself that I am just feeling what I feel. Life is complicated. I have chosen to live a very simple life, with as few stressors as I can manage, but you can't win all the time. That's life!
Hugs to all the people who are experiencing life !

Heather: My father had dizziness years ago and we went to the ER and it was an ear infection. Hoping that Johnny is feeling better today.
Debbie: So pleased you saw Nick and that he is doing okay.
Barbie: Congrats on cleaning out the garage.
Karen: Enjoyed the picture
Lanette: I have an aunt who met someone in her late 70's. She wasn't looking to date. The relationship just happened.
Kylia: It will probably be 5 years before I am a grandmother! I wish I could live close to my son like Heather does.
Lisa: I hope you don't need surgery. I love what you said about your mother being present in the children and grandchildren that loved her.
Annie: Parents can be aggravating...sorry about your Dad and the tree.
Carol: I will have to watch Rebecca. I did watch The Wedding Date and enjoyed this. Congrats on 2500 steps!
Machka: I love the pictures of the gardens.
Well today I have an appointment with a grief coach and I also have a ticket to a group that plays Tom Petty music. The concert is at 8pm and is close by. However I will need to nap because I am awake now at 4 am. I hope I am rested enough to attend the concert!
Best,
Rosemarie from Georgia

25. Have a ‘no screens’ night and take time to recharge yourself. –evening line dance tho’ only an hour.
26. Take an extra break in your day and walk outside for 15 minutes –oops. Meant to take dogs to powerline but picked up groceries instead. Tomorrow morning.
Whoops got a little “behind” (I wish ;} )
Thanks all. Found the Oregon Personal Representative (for HIPAA info) form and printed it. We’ll sign tomorrow, keep copies and I’ll put copy in my phone. Also downloaded the Oregon POA form, will broach that subject with Joe tomorrow too, wish me luck!
Welcome @yourfriend4ever Donna in NC!
Allie keep those Miles pics coming. Sure miss Penny @lagopus.
Annie did the PT give you any exercises to substitute for updog and cobra?
Carol more steps than yesterday is a great start! Keep it up!
Pip the roll out cabinet drawers. We did that at our last house in Boise and it made everything so much easier. I’m reluctant to do it here as I’d really rather do the whole kitchen and all bathrooms over… when Joe wins the lottery
Michele if I don’t do my PT exercises “dailyish” I’m in pain. Great motivation. Vitamin “E”(xercise)
KJ love how you flipped the snow into a fun day.
Kylia can you appeal the insurance denial of the MRI? Great healthy heart news.
Debbie I have an issue driving across bridges too. Sometimes feel the place at the other end is in some kind of alternative space time. Creepy. Hope your DH sells more than he buys And seeing Nick? Miracles really do happen.
Heather, how scary for Johnny and for you! Glad you’re being more understanding of your flurry, I’d be more than flurried. Hoping strongly for swift, complete recovery. ((hugs))
Sue hope your pulmonologist has a magic wand.
Rebecca congratulations!
Well done @aundy28570 for getting back on track. Would you let us know what you’d like to be called and your general locale?
Lisa thankful Dr. B is going to bat for you.. ‘bout damtime someone did.
Rosemarie what would it take for you to be able to live close to your son?

ACTIVE APRIL1. Commit to being more active this month starting today. Yes!
2. Spend as much time as possible outdoors today. Yes!
3. Listen to your body and be grateful for what it can do. Yes! I can garden, which requires all sorts of body motion, and cycle.
4. Eat healthy and natural food today and drinks lots of water. Yes! Ate my usual food and drank lots of water up till about 8 pm. We won't talk about what happened after that.
5. Turn a regular activity into a playful game today. Hmmm ... Walking around the shops? Climbing stairs?
6. Do a body-scan meditation and really notice how your body feels. Achy.
7. Get natural light early in the day. Dim the lights in the evening.
There isn't much light early in the day here. Plus I was sleeping then. Plus it was cloudy, drizzly and rainy all day.
But I do dim the lights in the evening. It's one of many steps I take to wind down in the evenings to prepare myself for the night.
8. give your body a boost by laughing or making someone laugh
I rarely laugh. Most things don't strike me funny.
Lots of things amuse me, but not enough for laughter.
9. Turn your housework or chores into a fun form of exercise
I often do, but as today's work involved sitting at 2 computers, I walked on the treadmill during a break instead.
10. Have a day with less screen time and more movement
Unfortunately, today was another day sitting at 2 computers.
But I did go downstairs to row and lift weights.
Hoping the rain will let up soon!!! It's been 4 days already!
11. Set yourself an exercise goal or sign up to an activity challenge
One of my more favourite areas!!
We aim to cycle at least one 50 km ride each month and have been doing that for a while. At our AGM at the end of March, we got a bag full of these each.
We will have to see when we can fit our April ride in ... the 5 days off over Easter would have been good but it rained and rained and was cold and windy. Snow at higher elevations.
Maybe next weekend ... we'll see.
AND ... one of the bigger running events moved their event to September which is fantastic for me. Originally, it was this month, but I was nowhere near ready to even sign up for the 5K. Now I've got the winter to get in shape.
Also, now that I'm working back in the same building I was in about 16 months ago, with many of the same people, we've started our stair climbing challenge again. We are easing into it this month because of Easter and ANZAC Day but we'll be ready to be much more consistent in May.
The stair climbing challenge is exciting because when I'm busy climbing 20+ flights of 20 stairs each day I am at work, I lose weight.
12. Move as much as possible, even if you’re stuck inside
Absolutely! I climbed stairs.
13. Make sleep a priority and go to bed in good time
I do when I have to work the next day ... make sure I get at least 7 hours of sleep.
But I am not keen on that. I'm a night owl and like to get things done late at night. Having to be in bed by 11:45 pm is a bit uncomfortably early.
14. Relax your body & mind with yoga, tai chi or meditation.
Gardening ... will gardening do?
15. Get active by singing today (even if you think you can’t sing)
I sing every day. My husband is very polite about it.
16. Go exploring around your local area and notice new things
I've spent 5 years on our island.
I've done a lot of local exploring!
I think exploring locally is a great idea and some people don't do enough of it. However, I'm getting more and more restless to go somewhere else as the weeks go by.
17. Be active outside. Dig up weeds or plant some seeds
I usually do this on the weekend when there's daylight.
However, I occasionally do some weeding in the pitch dark when I walk Rhody right after work.
18. Try a new online exercise, activity or dance class.
Hmmmmmmm ... not that keen on online exercise, aside from Zwift.
However, I have started a stair climbing challenge at work, and we keep track of it on an Excel spreadsheet.
19. Spend less time sitting today. Get up and move more often.
Walking in the morning and evening as part of my commute.
Walking at lunch.
Climbing stairs.
Walking back and forth to the kitchen and toilet.
Walking with Rhody after work.
20. Focus on eating ‘a rainbow of multi-colored vegetables today.
As always.
21. Regularly pause to stretch and breathe during the day.
Does huffing and puffing up and down 20 flights of stairs count?
22. Enjoy moving to your favorite music. Really go for it.
I always enjoy my music, but I don't necessarily move to it.
23. Go out and do an errand for a loved one or neighbor.
Not on the 23rd (Sunday) but today.
24. Get active in nature. Feed the birds or go wild-life spotting.
Walking ... and watching the pigeons.
25. Have a ‘no screens’ night and take time to recharge yourself.
Tuesday was ANZAC Day ... so I didn't spend as much time in front of my computer. I was out in the garden for quite a while, then we went cycling.
26. Take an extra break in your day and walk outside for 15 minutes
Wednesday, I was back at work. But I did a longish (over an hour) walk to the Botanical Gardens and back to work.
27. Find a fun exercise to do while waiting for the kettle to boil (or pan of water.)
Thursday ... today. More climbing stairs.28. Meet a friend outside for a walk and a chat.
29. Become an activist for a cause you really believe in
30. Make time to run, swim, dance, cycle or stretch today

I am beyond happy with our newly installed kitchen roll out cabinets for our kitchen and spice rack. We started out on our walk at 6:30 so we could get home by 9am. Most places ask for a deposit or 1/2 now and rest when he’s done. He just wanted full payment when he was done and we were happy. He was Kind, efficient, punctual and pleasant to deal with. Before and after pics.
Very nice!!
I miss having upper cupboards.

Cremation vs. burying - One of my mother's fears was being buried and still be intact for ages, so she requested that she not be embalmed. She wanted to go back to the earth. Texas law gave us 24 hours to get her in the ground. I, on the other hand, wish to be cremated. The family joke is that I want my ashes put in an urn on the mantel, and stick wiggly eyes on the outside, so I can check out Corey's new girlfriends. In all honesty, I simply don't care, I just don't want to be buried and have people visit me in that spot. Kylia - I've told my family I will haunt them if they bury me, too!
Love y'all,
Later,
Lisa
Kylia doesn't want to be in an urn on a shelf ... you don't want to be buried.
I'm happy being cremated and buried. I'd like to be scattered in a favourite spot, but I think that's illegal and I wouldn't want to put pressure on my survivors in any way.
M in Oz
Turns out it's legal!

But I'd probably have to go scatter myself ... the nursing home won't like do it.

DH is feeling better than yesterday, but still dizzy. I decided to cancel my trip to see G, because I think even just Edie (and son) would be too much for him. However, she will lift his spirits! I can do all the running around, getting stuff out, lunch etc, and he can just sit with her. My son will be working in one of the rooms once he has got on to our WiFi.
DH managed some time on the recumbent bike, but I advised against the elliptical and rower! He is unnaturally quiet (for him).
I will walk with him to the dentist later and can shop at the Chinese while he is there. I need to make an appointment for a checkup.
G was OK, and nice about the cancellation, but I'm sure she is disappointed. I got some money back for my train ticket, although they charged a big admin fee. But I'm not too much out of pocket.
Expecting them any time now.

Barbara: My son and DIL have not purchased a house yet. My DIL wants to go back to school. So they have some more moving around to do. They are in their 20's. Maybe as they get into their 30's I can consider moving near them. I would probably get a condo and the HOA fees scare me...that they will increase too much. Right now I want to stay in my home. All the memories are here. Especially in the dining room and family room.

Aundy - sounds like you and your husband are back on track for the gym! Well done.
Machka - Sorry about the tinnitis. I hope you had a little time in between to revel in the lack of noise. Not sure what you meant by "But I'd probably have to go scatter myself ... the nursing home won't like do it." Sounds like an interesting plan if you're the one who is in the urn, and have to go scatter your own ashes. I keep going back to that sentence, and it reads the same each time!

I rather doubt I will have anyone I know around when I go. Chances are the nursing home or hospital I'm in will send me off to be cremated and buried somewhere. If I want to be scattered, I'm going to have to catch a passing breeze!!

Good morning ladies!
I have more struggles ahead with my laptop. I'm supposed to have a telehealth visit on it in an hour. It was up and down yesterday, so the odds are against me. I believe the issue has to do with drivers and Windows 11 updates. Sometimes I can log in to my desktop then it blacks out when I move the cursor. Sometimes I can't log in. What a royal pain. I would hate to buy new just to fix an update issue. Well, I'm just rambling about my laptop because I have a decision to make. I should not let this issue affect the rest of my peaceful life, especially my diet and exercise.

How full is it?1 -
Machka it's about two years old and has very little on it. I use it for zoom and telehealth. It has some word and text files but no pictures nor movies. And it has McAfee and I was able to run a full scan yesterday. And it had another Windows update.

Thanks, Lisa. I am feeling better. When I wasn't sure I was going to be offered a contract for next year, (my current position is being eliminated.) I applied for a higher level job in Portland, about an hour from here. I didn't hear anything from them, and in the meantime, I received a contract for a lower position where I am, at the same pay as before. So I signed my contract, and days later was invited to a preliminary interview at the new place for the "better" job. Sigh.
I am not looking to jump now, especially since I have complete flexibility with my schedule, and even more with the lower position I'll be doing (much more faculty/teaching than admin). But I'm going to go ahead with the interview Friday, to see if they can change my mind. I don't think they will. On my initial application I was honest and said I was happy where I am but wasn't sure I would get a contract.
Hubby's job is going better. Very stressful because he hasn't done it before, which is another reason I'm not looking for a change unless forced to.
Michelle, I think it's sad whenever anyone dies. Even if we won't miss the person, every one is loved. A few years ago a drug dealer was killed in our local Starbucks parking lot in a deal gone wrong. It would be easy to say "no big loss," but he was loved and is missed. His family maintains a small memorial for him near where he died, always with fresh flowers, and every time I drive by it, which is more often than I'd like to admit, I say a prayer for him and his family, and remind him, "you were loved."
Take care everyone.

pip – did you have to get new appliances in your kitchen? How very nice of the cabinet guy to give you that donation
Lisa – that’s great that the hematologist is going to bat for you
Vince got the results of his MRI. He has two bulging discs and a narrowing of the spinal column, whatever that means. The person he spoke to was just reading what the doctor wrote down, so he couldn’t ask any questions. They did refer him to an orthopedist. So I guess at that time he can ask what a “narrowing of the spinal column” means.
Jerry wasn’t at work today. Not sure what that means. I don’t think he came in early because he wasn’t there when I got there and that would only mean that he worked an hour. They must have been really slow yesterday, someone did a lot of prep. Oh well, I still got my 3 hours in. That’s what I shoot for, at least 3 hours.
Flea – I’m sure that Pete’s grandmother’s family is really sad at her passing. I’m just not
Drizzling here. I would volunteer at the Green Room, only they don’t have sign ups for volunteering today. Sign ups for the next show start next week. Oh well…
Since it’s drizzling out so I can’t go for my walk around the block, maybe I’ll do a Leslie Sansone DVD.

Flea - Actually, you're walking into your interview in the best possible way. The Principle of Least Interest says that the person or group with the least interest in maintaining a relationship has the most power. It's quite seldom that we're handed that kind of power in this life, so enjoy it. I loved what you said - that everyone is loved. It's comforting.

The day went well and G seems OK with it.
My son said it was the best strike day ever! He loves DH's study. Quiet and comfortable. I made lunch for everyone, which was enjoyed. Fortunately, I had gluten free pittas in the freezer.
Here is Edie making a flower picture in the style I taught her, and with tape divisions.
It came out really well.
My new white sneakers arrived! This time the size was perfect!
I created another flower picture with Edie and made a holly Christmas tree decoration!
All in all a good day! DH is improving.

Barbie - I wanted to say "thank you" to you for something I've resisted for decades. I've listened to music while I exercised for as long as I've had access to headphones, all the way back to my Sony Walkman. The music helped give me rhythm for my movements and helped me not think about small pains, or my basic urge to quit. I never thought I could give that up.
This week, with your example (as well as Heather's and many others), I started picking up podcasts while I worked on the elliptical. My body fell into a rhythm I could sustain without injuring myself, and I found myself surprised when I got to my time limit for the day. I was absorbed in the words instead of whether I had a sock bump. As a result, I've been able to make six, eight and ten minutes on the elliptical so far this week, the best I've done in a single week in more than a year.
Thank you for that, Barbie and Heather and Pip and Annie and Michele and all the others who provide examples of how to wind these beneficial actions into our lives successfully. I'm grateful for all the companionship on this path.
Love,
