Lisa – how does Cory make his icing?
Michele NC
Michele - I have absolutely no idea. He's the cook, not me.
Heather - Love the picture for your brother. Really well done! And to do it with one arm incapacitated, even more respect. Your abilities on the art front grow with each painting, and all of it is inspirational.
Tracey - Glad you're going to the walk-in clinic, and hope it's not a frozen shoulder. Never had one, but it sounds like no fun at all. Love the picture of you and your daughter, and flowers are just gorgeous.
Allie - So glad you're feeling better. Take care of you, woman! The flowers are lovely, and I'm pleased your son was able to surprise with them.
Barbara AHMOD - Nope, nope, nope on the bug situation. Hope the exterminator can clear the problem.
Hope everyone had the Mother's Day they hoped for!
Later, y'all,
Love,
Lisa in AR

Soooo cute..4 -
I am loving all of the photos, artwork, stories of grandkids, trips planned, and life in general.
Rebecca- I love the photo booth pics!
Allie- Carmine and Seth look great together! I see Carmine is wearing a suit; as per their wish. I am glad Tracy let them make that decision. I am also happy that Tracy has calmed down. I wouldn't be surprised if Kyle had something to do with that. Sometimes our children's spouses/partners are able to see our "frailties" better than our own children. I think it is just that our children believe that we will just go on forever; never changing. *sigh If wishes were feathers I would build wings and fly.
Rori I am very excited for you and this trip. You are leaving today, I believe! Bon voyage, my friend!
Heather- Hope all went well with your doc/fracture. Your DH is a wonderful man. For all of his little things that get him upset; I think the fact that he gets bothered when you are hurt or in some way unable to function normally, is very telling. His concern manifests itself with his behavior. Love your beach shack painting! YOu did a great job!
Clothing- I have never had an extensive wardrobe. Even as a teen. I could fit my entire wardrobe (all seasons; shoes/boots included) into one suitcase. Not a carry-on mind you, but a standard suitcase. Like Barbie, I have whittled my clothes down to essentials and wear the same things every week. 3 pr yoga pants, 1 pr jeans, 2 pr capris, 2 skirts, 5 tops various sleeve lengths, 5 pullover hoodies, then underthings (tanks, camis, bras, undies, socks). 3 swimsuits (bc I am in them nearly every day in the summer). 4 pr of sneakers, 2 pr of slip ons, 1 pr of all purpose Wolverine boots. I currently have no sandals.
Mother's Day- I have always been kind of "meh" about Mother's Day. I am fine with a "happy mother's day" text from my kids. I am fine if they forget entirely. My kids know this. My DH always buys a gift and signs the kids names. Which I find particularly funny; as he always forgets to tell the kids this. So, my thank you text to the kids goes something like this, "In case you didn't know, your father just presented me with the gift "from you". I love it. Thank you. " lol This year, "they" got me a new crock pot. My old one broke last month. I have a spare in the basement, as well as a Instant Pot which can sub as a crock pot. BUT...I am grateful for the new one, as it is Crock Pot brand with a ceramic inset. My spare in the basement is GE and doesn't cook as well, and the instant pot is very small. But as many have said, as long as I know I am loved, I am good. Mother's Day or any day.
Gotta fly...well beyond time to get off my computer. ttfn xoxoxo KJ (Kelly)6 -
I chose purple!
Utter chaos at the hospital as they had my procedures in the wrong order. When a doctor said I was 'a bit confused' I let them have it in no uncertain terms! Anyway, it all got done in the end. Extremely lovely plasterer, who had just got back from a half-world cruise on Queen Mary II. Swopped cruise stories. Also super Welsh doctor
The good news is that the cast is coming off in three weeks! Hooray! Perfect timing.
My friend C, who I was meeting up in London on Wednesday, has emailed me to say she is miserable with a chest infection so could we postpone. Thankfully, yes, so I've rebooked for two weeks time. I'm glad as I have another meeting on Thursday and Bea tomorrow, so that will be better for me too. She has just got some antibiotics.
So, I am feeling so relieved that my cast will be gone by the cruise. I will have a velcro support, probably.
Love the pansies Tracey. The only problem with hanging baskets is the amount of watering required! But they look beautiful.
Love to all, Heather UK xxxxxxxx

Good morning ladies!
I've been skimming along the past few days and every time I sat down to write something I was interrupted it seems. Will try to catch up. Hope all you moms had a nice Mother's Day. Friend Tiff and her husband stopped by yesterday with a beautiful hanging basket, I sent her home with tomato, squash, and lettuce starts. She'll be busy!
Barbie - we had hot (90) temps and a lot of scorching east wind yesterday too. Seems like I was out many times trying to find places to put tomatoes out of the wind so they didn't get damaged. I am used to the south and west wind and have good places to protect them. So 20 mph winds from the east are a challenge when it comes to still tender starts. They survived, thank goodness.
Hot again today but looks like the winds won't be so fierce. Chance of rain and thunderstorms this afternoon.
I'm stalling getting any veggies set out until toward the end of the week when it cools down a bit. And that includes onion sets.
Carol - sorry to hear about your son and his family getting Covid. I think it's still going around here but most folks just feel like they have a cold and stay home a couple days until they feel better. I don't know that there's any more forced quarantining - perhaps in some jobs.
Allie - so glad it worked out, Tracy has calmed down, and you are feeling better. Change is hard.
Rori - have a great time on your trip! Glad you are doing better. Can't wait to see some pix of your adventures!
Tracey - hope you don't have a frozen shoulder. Have you been icing and taking anti-inflammatories?
Barbara - sorry to hear about the bug invasion. I slapped a mosquito last night. This hot weather brings all kinds of nasty things to life it seems. Hope your exterminator can get them on the run for you.
Chickies are doing fine. I expanded their run but blocked off their access to a lupine, I had it hunch it might not be good for them to peck at it through the fence. I finally looked it up this morning - I was right. Poisonous. So I hacked it down and set pavers on top of the root ball, dirt too hard to pull it or dig it out. I have one growing on the other side of the greenhouse. I love them and love their scent, but can't risk it. I'll whack it down after it blooms and before it goes to seed. Luckily they are short-lived perennials.
And I've been fermenting chicken feed. It's a thing - maybe I mentioned it already. Some of their bagged feed is pretty powdery and prone to waste, so I read up on mixing it with water and letting it set for a couple days until it starts to smell like sour mash, lol. Takes a couple days and I stirred in a little bit of greek yogurt just to give it some zing. When I was a kid we had a lot of chickens and mom would pour buttermilk or sour milk over the chicken feed and the hens loved it.
I have buggered up my ankle. I think I strained it weed eating along the ditch, I was walking at an incline a lot, footing was iffy. And I wasn't wearing good shoes. The pain seems to be the tendon attached at the inside of the leg/ankle bone, not in the ankle joint itself. Feels kind of like a shin splint on the inside of the leg. So I'm taking it easy and wrapping/ icing/taking anti-inflammatories and it should be better in a couple days. Feels a lot better than it did yesterday. The good news is that weed eating job should keep the invading grass at bay for a while.
OK ladies I better get this posted for now.
Have a great week!

Pip - love the barrel fountain.
Heather - sometimes our independence comes back to bite us. I am the same, DH never thinks of offering to help because I do it myself.
My mom didn’t do anything without my Dad’s permission. I remember one time trying to hang a piece of art I had made for her. She said, “no we better wait and ask your Father”. I said, “Mom, I know how to hammer a nail”. She wouldn’t let me.
I also remember her asking for $2.00 once and him saying, “I just gave you $2.00 last week”.
I swore I would never be in that situation.
Love the purple cast and so happy for you that it comes off in 3 weeks.
I only have one hanging basket, but I have to water daily anyway, we are very dry here.
Ginny - I hadn’t thought of stress causing my shoulder pain. You may have a point though.
Lanette - sounds like a good day yesterday. We are having scorching temperatures too and no relief in sight for rain for these wildfires.
I do believe I have frozen shoulder. The Harvard website had exercises to do for it and I started doing them last evening. It doesn’t feel as bad today. I am going to go buy another ice pack today because it says to ice it 10-12 times per day.
Hope your ankle heals fast. I feel like I’m always in one type of pain or another. It’s very frustrating.
I love lupins. I wish they grew here.
Barbara - we don’t have termites here, I know nothing about them except what I learned on Berenstein Bears when my girls were little. Papa was always trying to fight the termites. Last night, I thought of Joe running around like Papa Bear.
Katla - happy birthday to your DH.
I have to go plant some more flowers I bought yesterday. No always think I don’t have enough then by mid July I’m complaining about the watering.

The Lilacs are in BLOOM! From my garden! A nice Mother's Day present. The vase is one my mom got when she was in Venice.
they are beautiful. Mom has one that I got to enjoy when I was up there last weekend. Her flowers aren't as full as yours, They are amazing. I am sure they smell even better.1 -
DH has had a happy birthday so far. He had a bit of cake at lunch and the birthday song. 😊.

When mine was frozen, the best thing for me was, in a hot shower, to move it. I did my PT in the shower which really helped.
The worst thing I did was to not move it at all when I was waiting to find out what was wrong with it- it froze up completely. Thankfully after months of PT it is back to normal and no surgery was needed. Now, if it starts to get achy, krackly, I go right to the hot shower and move that thing.

Margaret- I forgot to mention your lilacs. They are my absolute favourite flowers. DH is deathly allergic to them though so I can’t bring them in the house.2

Yesterday was ok, just like any other Sunday.
Went to church by myself. Son would have gone with me I think but had to work to cover someone's shift.
Went grocery shopping with dh and picked up what I needed for dinner.
Came home and did the prep for dinner- cooked the shrimp, made pico de gallo- for shrimp tacos. Son wanted fish tacos so cooked some fish sticks for him and his girlfriend.
Dh was at his mom's when everything was ready and then messaged me asking me if I would go to Walmart with him before we ate. I was hungry and wanted to try the pico so ate a little tostada before he came home.
Kids were going to a movie so they ate some before they left and then ate again when they got home.
Son did give me a ceramic turtle for outside and a bird house and wished me a Happy Mother's Day, so did his girlfriend. Dh never said a thing-just a normal day-just complained about his mother. I just wish he would man up and just tell her no once in a while. She is mad that he only comes twice a day to feed her, she wants more, even though she doesn't even need the twice a day anymore and is back being mean again to him
Called mom and talked a few minutes. My sister was there all weekend and still there so she said she will call and talk to me today.
Weather is not as hot today so should be good walking weather- Zumba tonight. Two full hours of time for me today. Looking forward to it.

Bittersweet Mother's Day ...first Mother's Day without my husband. My son and I met at some gardens and walked about 2 miles and went into a Butterfly House. I am very grateful he spent the day with me. And it was easier being away from the house than it would have been at the house. In future years he might have children and the focus will be on his wife. I am grateful I had the time with him this year.

Tina thanks for the tofu taco link. Can I leave half (or more of) the tofu in the freezer for another time? 8 tacos is too many for me!
Later, lighter, lovelies!

I suppose you can cut the tofu in half (or smaller) before freezing it and then wrap it up for later. I haven't tried, but it should work, in theory. I just use it for leftovers for the next couple of meals, though I have a mister to help me eat it. The marinade is nice on chicken too, but that defeats my desire to eat less meat.
Heather-Nice purple cast! It's great that it'll come off before your cruise!
Pip-Your hair looks great!
I went to do half hour in the yard and 2 hours later, I came inside. Sadly, the yard could use another 8 hours of work. I don't like doing it, but the mister refuses and I cannot find someone else to do it that doesn't require supervision...so may as well do it myself.

Allie--Great pictures of Carmine and the prom. Hope they had a fun time.
Annie--I completely understand how you feel as I have been there a lot and it is a stuggle to get back on track. We can do this, just don't give up.
Rebecca--Glad you are having such fun. What great memories.
Katla--Happy Birthday to your DH. Sorry about the house sale, but something better will come up.
Heather--Love the purple. Your painting is so good and easy to see what it is and who.
Rosemarie--Glad your son spent the day with you.

Barbara, my mother was a creative cook who liked exotic ingredients. She would have liked to cook the meals that Heather cooked, but sadly for her she had a husband whose favorite meals were simple like a grilled hamburger patty with canned green beans and a wedge of iceberg lettuce with mayonnaise and a daughter who once ate a tuna fish sandwich three meals a day during the family's entire summer vacation trip. Her turkey burger recipe was simple---ground turkey, egg, matzo meal, and a bit of spice. Her jokes were old and corny and frequently filled with puns. They probably came from her father. Here is one of my favorites:
A man was taken on a tour of a maximum security prison. When the warden took him to the dining hall, he noticed that the men were calling out numbers and everyone was laughing. The man asked what was going on and the warden told him that after so many years together, they didn't have to tell their jokes any more, that they could just call out the joke's number and people would laugh. At that point, someone called a number and there was dead silence. The visitor asked the warden what had just happened. The warden said, "Well, some people can tell a joke, and some can't.:
Heather, I love your purple cast. What fun for you.
Katla, sorry to hear that the house sale fell through. Do not be discouraged.
Too hot again today to be out for long, but I got some bark spread and some weeds pulled and Jake cut the grass in back and pulled a few. weeds. Now we are back in the house for the rest of the day. I'm glad I got my two hour walk while it was still cool before 8 AM.

Barbie—I am irritated with the former neighbor, but not upset. An adult daughter & grand child have moved in with them.
Our son will be managing the sale of our house. It is a shame that the former neighbor didn’t let us know sooner that they would not buy. A family issue kept them in their original place. It was too bad that they didn’t follow up with letting us know sooner that they wouldn’t be able to buy. It certainly slowed down things for us.

Got up running today. Had to get blood drawn then Denny’s for breakfast, Home Depot then Ace hardware for DH looking for paint, then gas up the loaner (still no word on my haunted/alien radio) Heard from all my sibs and my kids on Mother’s Day so was a really nice day for me. New med making me sleepy. I’ll get used to it though after a few days (I hope!).

A little preview of winter today with cool temperatures, wind and rain.
Proms weren't a thing in Canada. I've never been to one.
Vegetarian meals - I get vegetarian mince for dishes like spaghetti and vegetarian burgers.
In tacos, haloumi is a nice alternative to tofu.
I make curries with either chicken mince (not vegetarian) or vegetarian mince or chickpeas. In the case of saag or palak paneer, the paneer is the protein.
Speaking of paneer, are you having trouble getting it where you are?

Welcome newbies and returnees! (((hugs))) to those who need them.
So sorry Annie.
Katla, that is so sad. We went through the same thing with my mom's house, but ya know, the buyers worked it out on their own and ended up buying it in the end anyway. There's always hope and, as Carol said, houses are selling like hot cakes everywhere. If not them, there will be another buyer.
I wish they did too, Tracey! I remember everything you said about that. smh. Check into "frozen shoulder". I had that a couple years ago and it was horrible! Came on out of nowhere and they really don't know what causes it. PT is about the only things that works.

I had a good Mother’s Day. My sister did most of the cooking, but I helped slightly with lunch at Mama’s. My sister fried catfish that her neighbor caught in New Orleans. All of my kids and grandkids were there. My son and my husband put a jigsaw puzzle together with a little help from my sister, my mom, and me. It was a very relaxing day. I did have pie, but overall did ok with my choices. I did leave the leftover pie at Mama’s, so that was good. Dave and I had steak and salad for dinner.
No time to comment, but I did read all the posts.

I have not tried buying paneer. There are a lot of markets nearby that I can check and likely will find it. There is a large Asian market within walking distance that has all kinds of mock meat, but I would prefer avoiding that as an alternative.
Thanks for the suggestions.
