Full day playing with Athena, chatting with my middle son, playing at the nearby park, watching Athena wade in her little pool, and making homemade cake pops from her cake from last Wednesday. She had fun mushing it into balls and pushing firm plastic straws into them. Then she licked her hands that were covered in the sticky cake "dough". I put them in the freezer to set. The only bummer was when daughter in law was home from work and Athena was fixing to eat one, her Mom said, " oh she won't eat that", and of course she didn't. I was kind of miffed about it, but I didn't show it. I had it, and it tasted like brownie batter.😜😂.
A photo of the outfit l picked out for her when we were at Target.💖
This evening she turned off.🤗
Tomorrow an 8 month old is coming. Son watches him from 7:20 am to about 12 noon. It good for son to get used to caring for a baby again, and also for Athena to adjust.

A little preview of winter today with cool temperatures, wind and rain.
Proms weren't a thing in Canada. I've never been to one.
Vegetarian meals - I get vegetarian mince for dishes like spaghetti and vegetarian burgers.
In tacos, haloumi is a nice alternative to tofu.
I make curries with either chicken mince (not vegetarian) or vegetarian mince or chickpeas. In the case of saag or palak paneer, the paneer is the protein.
Speaking of paneer, are you having trouble getting it where you are?
M in Oz
I have not tried buying paneer. There are a lot of markets nearby that I can check and likely will find it. There is a large Asian market within walking distance that has all kinds of mock meat, but I would prefer avoiding that as an alternative.
Thanks for the suggestions.
Tina in CA
I also have several Asian and specialty markets here too but they're all saying they can't get a hold of paneer.
The "mock meats" here are vegetables.
The veggies burgers I ordered, for example are smoked cauliflower. I think I ordered some sweet potato ones too.

16. Show your gratitude to people who are helping to make things better. At tomorrow’s casserole-a-thon: Te,M&J.
So the “pygmy coleus” turns out to be a polka dot plant/Hypoestes phyllostachya. Lovely. Would it survive outside here on the Oregon Coast? If covered when frost threatens?
Lanette, thanks again for the pomegranate juice tip. Worked like a charm this morning. ;} Sorry to hear about your tendon, hope it continues to improve.
Tracey frozen shoulder? On top of everything?!? Love the image of Joe running around like Papa Bear fighting the termites. Made me smile. Thanks!
Pip I love the blue too! And all the plantings and fence in the entrance.
Ginny well done on the nightwear purge/replacement.
Tina, thanks. My mister won’t eat tofu… yet.
Heather snazzy purple choice. Have the medicos given you any pt exercises to do for when the cast comes off?
Vicki tell us about the flowers?
Barbie thanks! Now I know what to do with the matzo meal left over from my failed Passover chocolate chip cookies. “…some people can’t....” LOL. I resemble that remark.
Rosemarie ((hugs))
Rebecca that sleeping Athena.
Look what I did instead of PT this morning? Piled everything in the middle of the office so could rearrange furniture. Why? To bring plant stand in from living room. Chaos! Was able to move everything but the rolltop desk and buffet by myself. Joe came to the rescue for those. Even managed to put one wall back together before line dance class.Thought the moon must have been in Virgo, but nope, it’s Aries. Will see if that energy can see me through saying good bye to all the sympathy cards etc associated with Papa’s and Mama’s deaths.5/14: Move: 2 sets PT w/D , steps:5116 so farLater, lighter, lovelies!
Fuel: plants running count for week so far: 14+8+4=0 new+4+2+3=35 almonds, apple, avocado, beets, black bean/lime soup, cabbage, carrots, cashews, celery, cranberry jalapeno jam, cucumber, dill pickles, garbanzo beans, hummus, lemon dressing, maple syrup, oats, olive, onion rings, orange marmalade, peanut brittle, pecans, radishes, raisins, romaine, scallions, snap peas, soy breakfast patties, sweet peppers-orange/red/yellow, tangerines, tomato sauce, walnuts, wheat-cookies/cake/sourdough boule/burger bun.. Vicki-love the wood flowers!
Rosemarie-so glad your son made a special day for you. You are right-as they marry and have kids the focus changes-but it is great to watch the transformation.
Rita-sounds like things may be looking up.
Allie-you should really get checked out. You seem to have several health issues going on at once.
Rebecca-gotta love Athena!
Barbara AHMOD-ambitious project! It is funny how rearranging for one thing leads to a big job!
Need to get ready to hit the road for the three days of insanity for the conference. This morning is setting up. This afternoon sit in directors' meeting. Social event this pm. Tomorrow everyone arrives and will be very busy. After the morning rush and opening session it should tone down a bit. Social event of some sort Wednesday evening (or maybe I just order room service?). Then finish Thursday and pack everything up. All done with some of my closest work associates.
Take care all,

These are the veggie burgers I got ...

The mince is this ... and, to me, it tastes great! Unfortunately it is a little bit more expensive than chicken mince or I would use it all the time. It's soy protein.

I have made paneer quite a few times. I have had one 'fail'. Once pressed, you can freeze it. The stuff I have bought in packets bears no resemblance to the homemade product.
Bea pick up today. I'm going to try and, make it. I want to see Edie as well, because we might not get another chance before their holiday. I always take after school treats for both of them, but Edie goes off to cello. I will nap after lunch and make sure I have taken a couple of painkillers. My hips always feel the strain, but some weeks are better than others.
Rori must be in Scotland now!
I popped out this morning to buy milk, eggs, etc. I have yet to start writing again since my accident. Tomorrow looks like a good day, with my cancelled trip. Might have to type one handed!

The stuff I buy in packets is pretty much identical to what is served in the Indian restaurants here.

Morning all!
Pip- Your hair is beautiful! I too am waiting and hoping for a nice head of silvery white hair. For now, I make due with the wide streaks of white coming in along my face/hairline. Kind of Bride of Frankenstein-ish. But I make it work. lol
Meatless meals- A few years back, I began having Meatless Mondays for my childcare and my family. We went from having a meat protein at every dinner, to having meatless protein on Mondays and then only having meat once or twice a week. One of my favorite meatless proteins is beans. One of the most versatile beans is chick peas/garbanzos. I cook up a can of these in a pan with a bit of olive oil and cumin, garlic, smoked paprika, chipotle chili powder. Once cooked a smash them a bit with a masher, just so that a few of them are smooshed. Squeeze a couple of wedges of lime onto them, add a bit of chopped green onion, (cilantro, if desired) and make tacos with them. Mmmm...I also have a favorite black bean burger recipe. My DH and DYS love both of these recipes. Another delish flip on food: Nachos made with zucchini chips rather than tortilla chips. Cut your zucchini into coins (probably about 1/8 inch thick). Spritz them with a bit of olive oil and then coat them with parmesan cheese. Lay them flat on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Bake for about 8 minutes, then flip. The cheese will be golden. Put them on a plate and build your nachos atop. They aren't as crunchy as a chip, but the crisp cheese on the zucchini adds a nice touch. I love them! I am not a fan of fake foods. I always remember my mother's words when talking about products like margarine and other "substitutes". "Forget about those. You can have everything; in moderation." I think that is the problem with most people; staying within "moderation".
Tracey- I think it was you who mentioned how your mom had to get permission for everything. My mom was the same way. My dad never denied her; but it always bothered me that she had to ask. DH and I are that way. To a point. I keep a stash of $$, because I absolutely hate the grumbling and questioning on whether I need something, or the cost of something. I am not a spendy person. If I am buying, I need it or finally feel I deserve it. That is all. lol
Kids will be arriving soon, so I need to get stuff done. ttfn xoxoxo KJ (Kelly)7 -

Good morning ladies!
Katla - sorry to hear the anticipated sale of your OR house isn't going as planned, but as others have said - it will be sold. Sounds like a lovely place in a great area. The housing market is still booming out here (as I'm sure everywhere else!)
Barbara - glad the POM juice is doing the trick. I've gotten into the habit of having a small half glass POM topped off with Kombucha after supper each night. My original plan was 1/3 POM, 1/3 Kombucha and 1/3 red wine but I've abandoned the red wine idea for now. Just doesn't seem as good. But all of this is healthful and better than a can of Pepsi.
I've been following your county's dispatcher problems. The theory was it used to take a full year to get someone trained and signed off on law/fire/aid. Out of every 100 applications, only a small percentage go through training and at the end of a year, we'd be lucky to have 2 that stuck it out. And then they'd get hired by other agencies that paid more. That was 20 years ago and technology might have helped, although from what I've heard, cellphones aren't always reliable in finding someone's location like a landline was. Plus in your county, like ours, radio and cell coverage might be spotty with hills and trees blocking repeater transmission. Responders dealt with it, like yours are doing.
Pip - love love love your thick hair! It's beautiful! Was sorry to hear about Kirby's digestive issues, glad he can be prepared for them. As someone mentioned, this seems to happen to nearly all of us now and then as we get older for various reasons.
Kelly - those bean tacos sound great. I'll put them on my list. I love all kinds of beans. I made a bean stew a couple weeks ago and added a pint of that chicken bone broth I'd put in the freezer - I let it thaw in the fridge overnight and it had a gelatin consistency after all.
Vicki - I have never seen wooden flowers - gosh those are nice! Hope your hiring request goes through.
Allie - Carmine and Seth make such a cute couple. How nice he wrote a song for her. Neat prom outfits. I remember I had a super crush on a guy who I really wanted to ask me to the junior prom. I got tired of waiting and asked a gay friend if he'd be my date and he said sure. Of course, right after that, my crush asked me! But I didn't want to let my friend down so I went with him.
I'm not surprised Tracy is having some trouble finding day care, but she's only just begun to look. She and Kyle always needed emergency back-up anyhow since you were involved in other things like trips and surgeries/medical appointments.
Ginny - 20 years ago I used to love 3 day conferences. It was fun seeing folks I hadn't seen in a while, attending some training, maybe sneaking out with a friend to hit some shops. Have a good time and don't get worn out.
Heather - that purple cast is great. Glad it should be off before you depart on your cruise.
My ankle is doing pretty good unless I overdo it. If I take the time to put on my sturdy Keen leather shoes before I go outside, I'm OK. I'm trying not to take a lot of ibuprofen - seems to upset my stomach. Yesterday afternoon, however, it hurt like the dickens and I wondered if I had a stress fracture! 20 minutes of icing, elevation and an ibu helped a lot. It's OK so far this morning, still no swelling.
I have a nice batch of fermented chicken feed ready to go. It looks a little like cream of wheat and smells like sour mash, lol. Will take some out to the chickies when the sun comes up here shortly. Their pen will likely be a little sloppy and muddy but that gets me working on how to make improvements over time.
We had some rain, thunder and lightning last night so it's cooler this morning. After I went to bed last night, Rosie came in and wanted to sleep with me like she used to do when she was a puppy so I got some snuggling in.
I am hooked on Virgin River!! Seems like every book just keeps getting better. I'm up to book 5 or 6 and the Walt/Muriel romance is under way.
OK better get moving. Make it a fabulous day!

Unfortunately, his issue isn’t because of age, it’s because of his getting hit by a car:0(/2 -
Tracey,
Enid’s son and daughter both called during the day and talked to her & included the grandkids. They sent me their love since I didn’t happen to be home during either call because I was smushing and rolling pottery clay.
And…my son & granddaughter made an impromptu visit to our apartment at 6:30pm Mother’s Day! They brought a beautiful card with a message that my son had made a donation to The Innocence Project in our honor. They also brought a very tired bouquet of flowers ( ) which I have since revived to a cheerful little display. It was an unexpected and wonderful “p.s." to an already gratifying day.
If I had waited around hoping my son would do something for Mother’s Day, by 6:30pm I might well have been hurt, tired, miffed, all of the above.
As it was, I was so excited to see them! Both he and my athletic granddaughter were in relaxed moods; Enid and I were warmed by their short visit. It was just right.
___________
Pip - such pretty hair. It’s thick and healthy and nice.
Barbara - so sorry you had to deal with the infestation.
Lanette - I love hearing about your chickies.
KJ - I am not looking forward to mentioning to my brother that he will need to cut back on his spending - as his payee, I manage his money and have been avoiding that chat - he gets started doing something like eating at restaurants and kinda goes cray cray with it, so he goes through his budgeted money sooner than the month is up, and I have to transfer money to cover his expenditures - he has no sense of frugality, and it falls to me to let him know he is spending more than he is bringing in. I hope I can do it without making him feel bad in any way.
___________
Today I have woodcarving, aqua class, Parkinson chair dance class, and will play with my pottery clay some more. I’m looking forward to a fun day.

Ya, I caught that. I should have said for one reason or another. He's sure had some struggles after getting hit by that car. But overall it's great he can remain active, go camping, do so many things you both like to do.
My walking partner discovered, in her late 60's, that she has a gluten sensitivity. Can't trust what she eats and has to stay close to facilities.

Hi, ladies. Been trying to catch up and reading from page 18 now. So much happening with everyone. My trip to Ireland was wonderful. Such a beautiful country and we were treated so well everywhere we went. I think Ireland values the tourist industry. The couple I travelled with were amazing. It was the first time I travelled with anyone for years as I normally go solo so I was a bit nervous. They were both so nice and I enjoyed their company. Never complained about anything and were so enthusiastic about all we saw. I think we got a good overview of Ireland and saw many amazing sites from castles to cathedrals. We went to the area of Cork which was where my grandfather would have immigrated from and went through a replica of a famine ship. Was surprised to hear that the original ship was built from lumber that came from Quebec. Meals and accommodation were very good. We were even treated to an evening of entertainment by the Celtic Steps which was fabulous.
The one downside was a couple on the tour were coughing when we first met up for the meet/greet. As the tour progressed I saw more people getting sick. The bus was pretty full with about 40 people. I think the tour director could have lessened the risk of germs spreading if he had set up a sanitizing station for people to use every time they entered the bus. A simple bottle of hand sanitizer for everyone to use before entering and touching the handrails which everyone used would have helped. I got sick the day I returned. It was not an ordinary head cold but one that was fever, hacking cough and extreme tiredness. Ended up in bed for 6 days. The couple I travelled with came down with it the day they left for Belfast so their extended trip was ruined and then they had to fly back to Canada with this head cold. Not a pleasant situation for them.
I love travelling but not sure I will do the escorted bus tours again or at least stay away from the bigger bus tours.
Now back to reality. Trying to get my garden planted. Just have a few more things to put in this morning. It has cooled off a bit as it has been very hot here. Now we are dealing with smoke from all the fires going on around us. I feel for all the people being evacuated. Looks like we are going to have a couple of days of cooler weather, then back up to hot again with maybe some reprieve in site next week with hopefully some much needed rain.
DH has just started working on the field and will be seeding by the end of the week. Just seeding one quarter of barley this year. Due to all this hot, dry weather have decided to take two quarters out of production and just summerfallow them this year.
Joy3 -
Debbie - I hope your DH soon realizes he’s being taken advantage of.
Vicki - there is a local artist here that makes those wooden flowers. They are beautiful. Great gift.
Funnily enough I had given one to my boss a couple years ago. The artists here use yard sale funds to create their arrangements in.
Rosemarie- I’m glad your son spent the day with you.
Barbie - I love your Mom’s joke. I’ll have to tell my Grandson that one.
I have planted the other plants I bought yesterday and added more dirt to the side bed.
I just learned that Reba will be replacing Blake Shelton as a Voice coach. I’m so excited.
Machka - Where did you graduate from. Proms were huge where I grew up and for my girls. I went to prom with my best friend when she graduated. I quit school. Her class would have been my graduation class.
Carla - I believe it is frozen shoulder, I’m doing exercises for it that I found online and it is much better today, I would say about 50%. I have a massage tomorrow I will have her pay attention to it as well.
Rebecca - what a shame your DIL discouraged Athena from eating. Sounds like a great day though.
Barbara- I get myself in those rearranging messes too. Not as much as I used to because there is no way to rearrange here as much.
Kelly - that was me talking about Mom needing to ask for money. I hated seeing it. My Mom wasn’t raised that way, my grandparents kept their money very separate. They even borrowed from one another and kept a journal as to who owed what. I don’t think that’s the answer either.
We both contribute, have separate bank accounts but I manage it all. DH doesn’t really like to deal with it. I wish he would more, but have given up asking.
Karen - I’m so happy that you had surprise visits and calls.
That will be a tough conversation with your brother, maybe if you show him the bank statements it will help. He will see that you are having to help support him.
Joy - I am so happy that you had a wonderful trip. I so wish I could go to Ireland someday.
My shoulder is not as painful today. I iced, used ibuprofen, and did some exercises yesterday. I will continue today. I also have my massage appointment this afternoon.
I have had a thought to take a couple of courses on popular programs here. I am just trying to decide which one to take first. One is 300, the other is 600. I think it may help in my job search though.

Tracey - good luck with that massage! When I had a frozen shoulder, I did the PT faithfully, it was a long slow go and I was impatient so booked a "medical massage" for that shoulder. She said go ahead and scream into the pillow if you have to, and she wasn't kidding. The next day I was really bruised but she broke up that tissue and I was lots better.
Strange how it comes on and I hear of more and more people dealing with it. I still feel a twinge now and then and get right after it with stretches. Debbie's idea of a hot shower sounds good.

1. Do something kind for someone you really care about. I need to think about this and plot! I gave my son a gift card to Netflix. He needed something to make him smile.
2. Focus on what you can do instead of what you can’t. I will try. Did this.
3. Take a step toward an important goal no matter how small. I have to think about this. I did not buy beer today. Working on not enabling my DH.
4. Send a friend a photo of a time you enjoyed together. DONE!
5. Let someone know how much they mean to you and why. It’s my brother’s 59’th birthday today. Going to call him. We never really call each other.
6. Look for people doing good and reasons to be cheerful. Will do! And found them all over all day!
7. Make a list of what matters most to you and why. Did this in my journal.
8. Set yourself a kindness mission and help others today. Do this every day
9. What values are important to you? Find ways to use them today. Will try.

Bus tours vs self tours For me, I would use the bus tour money to rent a car, buy a map then explore by myself (or with partner). I do like being confined to certain time to different site explorations, etc. If I’m not interested in the site, I can move on and check out something else. I could also check out how the people of the area really live. Sometimes you can find the coolest stuff on your own. When my X-DH and I went to Hawaii, that is what we did. We found a pineapple field where they one-on-one gave us a tour of the Dole farm, a huge sugar cane field we drove through to find an isolated beach, another isolated nude beach where I met an old man making hats from palm branches and he gave one to me, among other fun stuff. We did get to see lava flowing into the ocean and looked into an active volcano that erupted a week after we got home! We also got to walk on newly cooled lava and heard all sorts of stories from the locals. None of which would have happened had we taken tours.
OMG! As I was writing this, my sick chihuahua just had a heart ‘fit’ and fell down the camper stairs! I helped her and put her on her favorite chair. She is still alive but not well at all.

Just got a message from the triplets mom(the ones I took care of for 5 yrs.) Haven't seen them in 4 1/2 yrs. Have kind of stayed in touch with the mom over the years on FB- She keeps saying she will bring the kids by but hasn't.
Invited me to their 10th birthday party.
Not sure if they will even remember me. I had them from the time they were 3 months old until middle of kindergarten when the mom, out of the blue, pulled them because she decided to be a stay at home mom(she tried to do that twice when they were little but couldn't do it, brought them right back to me), I didn't even get to say good bye. She gave me the two week notice but didn't bring them during that time but did pay me. They were a lot of work- 55 hrs a week for the 5 yrs, but sure missed them when they were gone.
Not sure if I am going by myself or if dh will go too.
I won't stay long as I will not know anyone there besides the kids and their mom and they will be busy with their other guests

Going to go a bit early and walk- still may be a bit warm but hopefully there will be the perfect breeze like yesterday.
High of 83 today.
And hopefully no snakes crawling out of the brush as I walk by. I don't mind them but want to know exactly where they are. Not glance down and almost stepping on one and having it looking up at me.
Finished the day with just over 21,300 steps in for the day. Actually slept pretty good, finally.1 -

Escorted bus tours are certainly not for everyone. Having said that at 73 I am certainly not going to rent a car and go off exploring on my own. I think I would find that quite lonely. I have been on many tours and have found that they always try to incorporate some type of local event that will give you an idea of how people in the area live. For this tour, we visited an actual working sheep farm. We were able to meet the farm workers and see the dogs in action as they brought the sheep in from the hills. We weren't able to see any sheep shearing as it was not the right time of year (I think it was too early). Apparently the wool starts to pull away from the skin just before shearing takes place. After our visit, we were all invited back to have a meal along with entertainment of local musicians. The couple hosted all 40+ of us to a home cooked meal. Seating was a bit cramped as they had us in the kitchen and dining room of their home. Wonderful memory and such a nice couple that hosted us.

Here are some professional photos of Edie doing her triathlon at the National Training Centre in Crystal Palace. She does have swimming coaching, but the biking and running she does on her own. Occasionally the family go to a track. There were 51 girls competing and a lot of them belonged to triathlon clubs! Edie came 10th.
The photos are obscured because they want you to buy them, but you can get the idea. I can't get over how grown up she looks!
I just adore her.
