After kirby got hit by the car back when we were in Tacoma, part of his ailments that he was left with was something called central cord syndrome. Without any warning he can loose control of his bowel movements, meaning as hard as he can try to control his butt muscles to hold his poop in so he will have an accident wherever we may be. He doesn’t know when it will happen and it happens very randomly so I have him put on a diaper while we are on his walks JUST in case. It happened while we were walking the kids not too long ago and he didn’t have a diaper on so I walked behind him and had him tie his windbreaker around his waist to cover up the mess, we made it to a bathroom and he INSISTED on continuing with the 6 mile walk, we had about 4 miles to go. Soooo, he is getting an MRI to see if there is anything new they can find out to solve that problem or that’s just how his life is going to be.SophieRosieMom wrote: »Good morning ladies!
Pip - love love love your thick hair! It's beautiful! Was sorry to hear about Kirby's digestive issues, glad he can be prepared for them. As someone mentioned, this seems to happen to nearly all of us now and then as we get older for various reasons.

Really??
I haven't got to that chapter of the Aging handbook!
M in Oz
Like I said, not due to aging but because of getting hit by a car while riding home on his bike
Yes, I understand that outcome and I'm sorry that happened to him.
Being hit by a car while riding a bicycle is never good ... especially if there are long-term issues.
But I haven't heard that what you describe happens to Kirby, because of an accident, will happen to most people as we age.

17. Find a way to make what you do today meaningful. Pack up a donation box, deliver to thrift store after annual?
Pest guy came as promised, hooray. $140 to treat house for both carpenter ants and termites. Gave a referral to an honest contractor to repair the damage to the front wall of the house. Contractor actually returned my call and will come Friday to assess the damage and give an estimate. [gulp] Joe was hoping the wall would outlast him…
Ginny safe travels. Sounds like an exhausting time.
KJ thanks for your meatless meal suggestions. Mom was right! (no surprise there… )
Lanette thanks for the insight about training and staffing dispatchers. A year, wow, I had no idea.
Karen hard conversation to have, but know you love your brother so much you’ll find a way to help him stay within his means.
Joy so very very glad your traveling companions were so good. Sorry for the lack of sanitization station (or for that coughing couple to mask up.)
Tracey, Rodger and Joe must be brothers from another mother when it comes to dealing with managing household finances. What are the 300 and 600 courses?
Rita (((hugs)))
Debbie ssssnakes! Eeeeuw!
Heather, 10th? Very well done, Edie!
Annie if your therapist is brushing aside your diet/exercise lifestyle then yes, time to find someone else who will really listen. Good luck!
Allie the glasses, hair and your smile.
Katla hope you can get an eye Dr. appointment soon. As much as you love to read, good glasses are a must.
Pip nice railings but I really like the fairy lights.

Barbara ... sorry to hear about your bug infestation, but glad it's being remedied!
Pip ... hoping the MRI provides some answers or suggestions on how to help Kirby with the incontinence issue.
So my husband and I have decided to do the re-siding of our home ourselves. Yesterday, my husband wanted to take off a few boards of the existing siding to see whether the house has bracing (or something like that...built in the late 70s) in the corners. I don't ask questions, I just stand where I'm told! Anyways, as he started to pull off the first board, he heard hissing and growling in the wall We have a wildlife exterminator coming next Wednesday. Most likely raccoon. And so the "project" begins

Hi Gals,
Ok Beth – a house that hisses and growling in the wall is gosh darn scary ! Either you need a wildlife specialist or wait until Halloween and have a haunted house with a real haunted corner! LOL
Prom question – when my nephew attended his prom a few years ago and when all the families I hem prom dresses for talk about the proms in the SF bay area, they are for seniors, or if they are going as a couple one of the members must be a senior. All attendees must be current or previous attendees at that high school. It sounds like Machka you had a small graduating class My graduation class was 460 kids, and my nephews was 676.
Smiles,

Raccoons and termites Oh My! Be careful, and hope it's not too expensive. Does home insurance cover some of it?
I always thought my tender stomach was just part of who I am. But now that I am eating smaller portions and more fiber, and lactose free yogurt, it's getting more stable. It might be a gut microbiome issue, especially since I had lots of antibiotics in my youth.
But I will say that gut issues are often kept secret, so that they are more common than we think. Digestion can break down with age or accident as much as any other body function. We just don't talk about it much.

1. Do something kind for someone you really care about. I need to think about this and plot! I gave my son a gift card to Netflix. He needed something to make him smile.
2. Focus on what you can do instead of what you can’t. I will try. Did this.
3. Take a step toward an important goal no matter how small. I have to think about this. I did not buy beer today. Working on not enabling my DH.
4. Send a friend a photo of a time you enjoyed together. DONE!
5. Let someone know how much they mean to you and why. It’s my brother’s 59’th birthday today. Going to call him. We never really call each other.
6. Look for people doing good and reasons to be cheerful. Will do! And found them all over all day!
7. Make a list of what matters most to you and why. Did this in my journal.
8. Set yourself a kindness mission and help others today. Do this every day
9. What values are important to you? Find ways to use them today. Will try.
10. Be grateful for the little things, even in difficult times. It is hard right now but trying.
11. Look around for things that give you a sense of awe and wonder. There is plenty here at the park. Wondering how a cave could turn into a lake.
12. Listen to a favorite pieces of music and remember what it means to you. I will try to remember to do this. Did not have time.
13. Find out about the values or traditions of another country. Sounds like fun! I looked up Canada and specialty Quebec where my family originated.
14. Get outside and notice the beauty in nature. I love doing this!
16. Show your gratitude to people who are helping to make things better. Will watch for this. Did this to school group’s surprise visit to the park.
17. Find a way to make what you do today meaningful. I try every day by helping people find campsites in emergencies.18. Send a hand written note to someone you care about.RVRita in NM

I have had some help with the glasses. They’re not fixed but are currently taped together. The eye strain is a little better. I’ll need to take them to a quality eye specialist for repair. I’m still a bit headachy. 🙈3

My daughter called & will take me to an eye facility so that I can get needed appropriate glasses for repair or replacement. I feel a little better & happy she’ll be with me.

Machka- I didn't mean to imply that we'll all need to march around in diapers when we get old.
It might not ever happen, it might only happen once or twice - the stars lining up after a heavy fiber or fatty meal, or intense stress or exertion, a little bug picked up somewhere, or who knows what.
My point was, I don't think it's uncommon as we age. I know older folks who have had an "event" every couple years. If it happens and the person is worried, then best to see a healthcare provider. It nearly happened to me once last year when I was on the lawnmower. Made a quick sprint to the house. One time deal. Had never happened before. I'm 71.
I'm more bothered about my coffee intake and knowing where the nice bathrooms - "tinkletoriums" are around town.
Debbie - you commented last week that maybe my windows not opening in the Sube were due to the childlock. I hadn't used the car since I posted but this morning dug out the owner's manual and read about the childlock. Yep, that was the problem. Works just finenow. Thank you for mentioning it! I'd never used it or even thought about it since DH is the only other person who has ridden in the car with me.

Hello, all...
Have read what everyone's written, and lived your joys and concerns with you. You're all in my heart, and this remains my favorite corner of the internet.
The smell of boxwoods in bloom is filling my house, and is just intoxicating. It's such a lovely scent, and it's adding to my feeling of deep-down serenity. I cancelled my appointment with the surgeon yesterday, and I feel I made the right decision in choosing not to bring a surgeon into my journey at this juncture. If it's a bad decision, then it is, and I'll live with the outcome, whatever that may be.
Last week, I decided to step back from my self-inflicted, burnout-level, information overload. Today's decision was the next step to finding myself again, instead of peeking under the lid and finding nothing
but a patient with the auto-immune disease. It is something that's part of my life, but it is not the whole of it.
All kinds of peace and love, my chickens,
Lisa in AR

Keeping busy, will try to catch up. Did some HIIT today and then used the stairstepper then went for my walk
. Dermatologist appt and tonight music bingo. Totally forgot to go to the gym yesterday to do my weight
Barbara – oh no! Termites! I know when I’ve frozen silken tofu, it changes the consistency. I would think perhaps the same thing would happen with firm & extrafirm. Perhaps you have to make all the tacos and freeze a few? The recipe sounds great, but there’s no way I can eat that many and I can’t think of a way I can get them by Vince.
Tracey – I do the same thing with donations, keep them for a while and if I find I never needed them, then to the Salvation Army they go. There have been times when I thought I didn’t need something but then I found I did. We’re just going to go to Denise’s and tell her when we’re coming. If she decides she’s “doing something” then we’ll just leave the things we have for PJ in the garage. I’m through waiting for her to make a decision at the last minute. We need to make plans (hotel, etc)
pip – lovely barrel
katla – “all good things come to those who wait”. Happy Birthday to your hubby
Allie – love the keychain. I wonder if there’s something you can do so that it doesn’t rip and come off the hook?
Rosemarie HUGS
Joy – so happy for you that you had such a wonderful trip
Rita – good thoughts for your pooch and you. Update: so glad she’s better
Just got back from the dermatologist. Everything looks fine
Made brownies the other day. The main reason I made these was for this guy who is in ceramics but also in Newcomers. See, after his wife passed away about 5 years ago, I took a lot of her recipes. She was a very good cook, but also very heavy. Anyway, this was one of her recipes. Personally, I didn’t think they were all that good, but he liked them so that’s what matters. Also made rice krispie bars, wanted to try something different – came out OK. Made salmon cakes over the weekend for next week and the freezer, made chocolate bran muffins today. Not sure if I’ll get any pool time since we will need to leave in about 1 hr for the music bingo
pip – love the paint job. Looks good between the rug and the handrail. That’s a hard spot to get and not get paint on the rug.
Going to go to Replacements tomorrow to sell some of MIL's china. From my figures, we should be getting something like $270. Well, it's better than having it sit around the house taking up space.

DS is on his way to Leavenworth, WA to play golf with some of his longtime golf buddies. They get together each spring to do this. DD and I have his dog, a full brother to ours. So 2 crazy labradoodles in the house. DS returns briefly on Sunday and then leaves with his wife for Europe that evening. The Dude is staying with us. The cats are not pleased.
Enjoyed having DS here for the Mother's Day weekend. I miss him since he moved to San Diego 2 years ago.
Heather - hope your meet up with Rori goes well.

We were in Norfolk Nebraska. The Runza originated in Lincoln Nebraska and caught on and now there’s a chain in different cities and has even jumped states. We really love trying new foods that have a history behind them.
We picked up the chocolate treats for MIL and a little something for us 😊My favorite are Moose Muffins, chunched up toffee, mini marshmallows mixed with milk chocolate. 🫎🍫
